Mattingly "AI & Prompt Design: The Basics of Prompt Design"
Film certificate classifications guide
1. Certificate of film research
SUITABLE FOR ALL
The U symbol stands for universal. A film with this
classification is suitable for children aged four years and
over. With a ‘U’ label, only mildly bad language such as
‘damn’ and ‘hell’ is appropriate to be used. There is no
overt sexual behaviour that is allowed to be displayed -
only kissing and cuddling. If violence is included at all it
will be very mild and the emotional stress or threat will be
quickly resolved and have a reassuring outcome.
PARENTAL GUIDANCE
PG stands for Parental Guidance which means a film is
suitable for general viewing, but some scenes may be
unsuitable for young children. Not all PG films are made
with a young audience in mind however any film with this
certificate will not contain any theme which is
inappropriate for a child. Sex references and violence are
unlikely yet if they are displayed it is done in a very mild
and undetailed way in order for the film to remain suitable.
GENERALLY NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN UNDER
12
No one younger than 12 may see a 12A film in a cinema unless
accompanied by an adult. The overall tone of a film or video,
and the way it makes the audience feel may affect the
classification.
15 rated works are not suitable for children under 15 years
of age
In a 15 rated film there is a high chance of extremely
strong language. There is no limit on the number of uses
of strong language, however continued or aggressive use
will not be passed as a certificate 15. 15 rated works are not
suitable for children under 15 years of age.
Films rated 18 are for adults
No theme is prohibited at 18 as adults are free to choose
their own entertainment. There is no limit on the number of
2. uses of strong language and there may be uses of racist, homophobic or other
discriminatory language. There can be strong and detailed portrayals of sex at 18,
including full nudity.
