1. U Rating The U stands for Universal.
U rated films are for audiences aged 4 years and
over. The films have positive themes and could be
suitable for pre-school aged children.
In U rated films can have some discrimination in it
unless it is clearly disapproved of. Drugs can be
used in films as long as it has a clear educational
purpose or has a anti-drug message. There can be
no dangerous or antisocial behavior. In U rated

2. PG Rating
The PG stands for Parental Guidance.
PG rated films are for general viewing but some
scenes may be unsuitable for young children. PG
films should not be unsettling and are aimed at
ages 8 and over. Discriminatory language or
behavior is unlikely but is can happen. If drugs re
used then there has to be a suitable anti-drug
message. There cant be any dangerous behavior
which young children could copy. In PG rated films
there should only be mild bad language. In PG
rated films there can be nudity but with no sexual
context. In PG films there can be fighting scenes
but they should not be prolonged or intense.
Violence can be mild.
3. 12 and 12A Rated
12/12A rated films means that it is suitable for 12
years and over.
Films that are rated 12A in cinemas can not be
seen by any under the age of 12 unless they are
accompanied by an adult. Discriminatory language
and behaviour is unlikely. In12 rated films there
can be drug themes but the use of them must be
infrequent and not be glamorised. In 12 rated
films there also must not be any potentially
dangerous behaviour that children could copy.
There can be moderate language. String langue
can be used depending how it is used. There can
also be nudity with sexual context but it must be
brief or discreet. There may be threat witch is
moderate and can be physical or psychological
threat. There can also be violence as long as lots of
detail isn't included
4. 15 Rated 15 rated films means that it is only suitable for people
aged 25 and over..
No one under the age of 15 can see a 15 rated film in
the cinema. Discriminatory language or behaviour can
be used but not endorse and there may be racist,
homophobic or other discriminatory themes and
language. Drugs can be used in 15 rated films but must
not promote or encourage the use of them. Dangerous
behaviour can be shown but should not dwell on the
details. Strong language can be used and strong
language can be used depending on the manor that it is
used in. there can be nudity with sexual context but the
context is usually without strong detail. Treat may be
strong. Violence can also be strong but must not dwell
on the infection of pain or injury.
5. 18 Rating
18 rated films are only suitable for people over the age of
18.
In 18 films anything is aloud under certain circumstances.

human sexuality or safer sex and heath.
