1. ๏ I have learned that to produce a quality artefact, it takes a lot of time,
you need to be prepared and take clear steps for it to be a simple
process.
๏ I have learned to produce a documentary, you need quality footage and
lots of it as you have to regularly transition in order for it appear
interesting,
๏ โConsumers are now media producersโ I have also learnt that you do not
need professional equipment to create a documentary โ I used an IPhone
and a laptop to create a documentary. Before the project I assumed you
needed a professional camera, voice recorder and mac computer. In the
end I did not need any of these and so I learned that it is possible for
anyone to create a documentary.
๏ It has been very useful to me as I have developed my skills in Adobe
Premiere pro and I have now added to my creative portfolio which will
help me when going for interviews and apprenticeships in digital media.
2. ๏ I learned from my research various facts and statistics about Madeira, it was
extremely interesting to find out about the green environment and culture of
the island. I found out about an island that I had previously heard almost
nothing about. From my research I gained a real interest of the life, culture and
environment of the island and this interest enabled me to create a passionate,
interesting documentary.
๏ I learnt about the features of a documentary and how to construct a
documentary. I used the elements and key features that I learnt which enabled
me to create a professional documentary. Due to the features I learnt from my
research I have kept to the conventions of a documentary leading me to create
a traditional, obvious documentary, this is important as to attract an audience
you need to clearly imply what you have created through conventions such as
titles, music and a voiceover. My research often involved me looking up editing
skills on YouTube, this developed my knowledge and skills extremely allowing
me to create a professional documentary, this research allowed me to edit my
footage without it I would have created a very basic presentation and it would
have taken a much longer time.
3. ๏ If I was to retake this project I would be more organized, I would create a
stricter plan and have paid for the Adobe Premiere Pro software earlier as this
would have allowed me to achieve my original intentions, However I am pleased
with how my documentary turned out, so maybe it was for the best that I did
not get the software straight away.
๏ When I was filming I used a mobile, I lacked experience with filming so often
my footage was shaky and I moved the camera too much, I think using a
professional camera would have helped to stabilize my footage and thus I would
have produced better work. The advantages of using a phone is it is less risky as
you are less likely to break a phone or get it stolen then a large camera, it is
also a lot quicker to film on a phone then a camera but the disadvantages are
filming on a phone gave me a lower resolution and lower quality footage than a
professional camera. Due to this in the future I would use a professional
camera.
๏ Often in my footage I ended having my fingers in the way and this ended up
blurring some of my footage. I also struggled to not get people and body parts
in my footage such as arms. In the future I would be more cautious when filming
to ensure this does not happen.
