 Jharkhand Chief Minister launches Food Security Act
The Chief Minister of Jharkhand has launched the Food Security Act on 25th September, 2015, which will
be implemented in next two months. The act aims to provide subsidized food grains to nearly 80 percent
of the population of the state. The act was in limbo since 2013 and will ensure 51 lakh families with food
grains at INR 1 per kg. The Public Distribution System (PDS) of the state was covering 35 lakh families
prior to the launch of this act.

 Adani eyes 20 percent growth in agro business
Adani Enterprises is expecting over 20 percent sales growth in its agro segment, with volumes projected
at 5 million tonnes this year. The company's annual turnover from agri business is INR 20,000 crore at
present. The business is involved into the sale of wide range of food products including various variants of
edible oil, apple, gram flour (besan), basmati rice and pulses among others. The company sales are
dominated by the edible oils with basmati rice and gram flour being the other major segments. It has
plans to expand its food product portfolio. The Adani group has three agro verticals- Adani Agri Logistics
Limited (AALL), Adani Wilmar Limited (AWL) and Adani Agri Fresh Limited (AAFL).
 VKC Nuts, APG announce association
VKC Nuts – the leading dry fruit player has announced its strategic association with the American
Pistachio Growers (APG) - a non-profit voluntary agricultural trade association body. The association will
introduce high quality pistachios to mainstream cooking in India under the brand Nutraj. All APG certified
Nutraj will be available across the Indian locations in retail stores and on e-commerce portals including
Nutraj.com. Nuts and dried fruits transforming into a lifestyle product and people choosing it to be a
healthy snacking option are expected to drive the market.

2.  Food sector bodies demand refund from FSSAI
A committee of food sector's organisations has demanded the refund of INR 80 crore collected through
advisories by the Food Safety Standards and Authority of India (FSSAI) for product approvals since
2013. The committee demands that the fund should be either refunded to persons from whom it was
collected or should be used for the Prime Minister’s Clean India drive. The panel consists of nine
organizations - Indian Drugs Manufacturers Association, Protein Food & Nutrition Development
Association, CAIT, Indian Hotel & Restaurant Association, Federation of Pharma Entrepreneurs, Retail
Druggist and Chemists Association, All India Food Processors Association, Bhartiya Kisan Morcha and All
India Transport Welfare Association.

 Jumbo King seeks partner to fund expansion plans
Jumbo King - the Mumbai-based chain is seeking for a strategic partner for an investment of worth INR
65-100 crore in order to fund its expansion plans. The food chain aims to scale up its operations in the
country and allocate more spending on its marketing to promote 'vada pav' as the 'Indian burger'. The
company has grown at 25 percent year-on-year and aims to open its 1,000th store by 2020. It will further
allocate funds for appointing senior leaders to emphasize the company's business.
