 Jio to offer heavily discounted mobile Mi-Fi devices
Reliance Jio is planning to offer its customers heavily discounted mobile Wi-Fi (Mi-Fi) devices, thereby
attracting data users to stream data via 4G networks at mobile hotspots. Jio is the only pan-India license
holder of broadband wireless spectrum. The Mi-Fis can link up to 10 devices at a time and cost INR 3,000.
The company intends to reduce prices by about 50 percent to incentivize users to shift to its network.
However, these devices need to be separately charged and have a limited battery life. Huawei, ZTE, and
Alcatel OneTouch will partner with Jio to provide dongles, Mi-Fis and other broadband products in homes
and small offices.
 Apple, Airtel, Vodafone partner for iPhone 6s launch
Apple has brought on board top telecom companies such as Bharti Airtel and Vodafone India as vendor
partners to make the launch of its iPhone 6s in October a blockbuster. As incentive, consumers will have
the option of EMI schemes in which they will have to pay only a small upfront amount and the remainder
will be split into 12 or 24 monthly installment payments. Data bundled schemes are also on offer.
According to analysts, consumers can expect device upgradation plans at the end of a 12-month cycle,
since there is a significant user base that is keen to shift to new i-phones in India. The country is expected
to overtake the US as the world's second-largest smartphone market by 2017.
 Airtel launches 'Platinum 3G' in Kanpur
India’s telecom giant Bharti Airtel announced its Platinum 3G network launch in Kanpur. The new
technology will improve indoor coverage, deliver faster internet, enhance voice clarity and offer a
superior network experience. Further, Platinum 3G will help in the optimization of backend engagement
between the mobile devices and network, thereby allowing the customers to enjoy longer battery life on
phones.
 MTNL and Hungama.com together launch VOD
Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) will launch video on-demand (VOD) service in partnership
with Hungama.com – the digital entertainment content aggregator. The service will be operational across
Delhi and Mumbai within few weeks. The on demand service comes with SD (standard definition) quality,
enabling its subscribers to preview, stream and download content at tariff plans ranged between INR 150
and INR 250. A dedicated webpage along with a toll-free customer care number will facilitate customer
engagement. The service will provide MTNL’s subscribers access to Bollywood as well as Hollywood
entertainment content.

2.  Vodafoneto launch 4G services
Vodafone India, the second largest telecom service provider by subscriber in the country, will roll out its
fourth-generation (4G) network of high speed commercial services in the Kerala circle by December-end
2015. The company aims to prepare its 4G market to compete with Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio and Idea
Cellular. The first wave of the 4G launch will cover customers in Kochi, Trivandrum and Kozhikode; it will
be expanded further across the circle in a phased manner. The company aims to roll out its 4G services in
Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Bengaluru around the same time. In the February 2014 auctions, Vodafone
had successfully acquired 4G (LTE) spectrum in five circles - Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Kerala and
Karnataka, which together contribute around 50 percent of the company’s total data revenues.

 Micromax invests in Scandid
Indigenous handset manufacturer, Micromax Informatics, has made a strategic investment in the savings
discovery platform - Scandid. While the terms of the deal remain undisclosed, the investment will further
reinforce the company's foray into application services. The investment is the part of Micromax’s aim to
build a robust eco-system of devices and services with innovative technologies from across the globe for
its consumers. Scandid is a free mobile shopping discovery and price comparison app. With this
investment, the Scandid app will be available in all Micromax smartphones which will help customers to
take advantage of discounts and compare prices across top e-commerce and local retailers.
