The document proposes a new method for assessing the quality of images filtered to remove speckle noise from synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data. The method includes statistical analysis using new metrics like the Mean Preservation Speckle Suppression Index that evaluate how well filters preserve image features while reducing noise. It also introduces frequency analysis of filters' equivalent transfer functions to analyze mean preservation and isotropy. The method is demonstrated on real SAR data filtered using various techniques, finding the SRAD filter generally performs best at mean preservation according to the new statistical and frequency domain metrics.
