2. INTRODUCTION
Different situation require different types of
listening.
We may get information, gain appreciation
for something, or to evaluate something.
While certain skills are basic and necessary
for all types of listening.
Each types requires some special skills.
4. Informative Listening :
Here primary concern is to understand the
message.
Much of our learning comes from informative
Listening.
5. Critical Listening :
It is known as evaluative listening.
In which listener listens to the speaker with
the intention to evaluate and judge, forming
opinion about what is being said.
This kind of listening is useful in the
occasions like group-discussion, debates
and seminars.
6. Biased listening :
Biased listening happens when the listener has
preconceived notions about the speaker and
listens only what she want to, typically
misinterpreting what the other person says.
Appreciative listening :
In this listening listener listen to speaker with
full praise.
We use appreciative listening when we listen to
good music, poerty or maybe even the stirring
words of a great leader.
7. Empathic listening :
It is a listening with the intent to really
understanding of how other are feeling.
When you listen empathetically to the speaker,
you give him psychological satisfaction.
Therapeutic listening :
In this listening speaker use deep connection in
order to help the speaker understand, change or
develope in some way.
It is used in many social situations.
8. Selective Listening :
We normally listen only when it is important
or compulsory.
Active listening :
Active listening also known as focused
listening.
Here listener listens to the speaker with
complete attention and gives positive body
language.
9. Passive Listening :
A passive listener does not give any
feedback or appear to be listening at all.
Listening to podcasts while jogging, listening
to a radio station while playing a mindless
game and reviewing the audio material to
your textbook while driving are few example
of passive listening.
