1. BONAFIDE is an upcoming recent Music
Magazine which presents old as well as
new music within the hip hop genre
2.
3. The site initially derived from a
the Bonafide blog which began
in Hyde Park, Leeds.
The Company officially started going
in June 2009 whereby the site was
used to promote the magazine.
4. The magazine is based upon the genre of Hip-Hop; all
areas of hip-hop are covered Throughout this extremely
evidential magazine.
The magazine wanted to ‘fill the void’ and rather than
looking at Hip-Hop as a genre, they now perceived it as a
culture and present all aspects of it through ‘crispy clean
visuals and incisive editorial’ to achieve their aim; to
‘provide original coverage on where hip-hop has been, is
at and where it’s heading.’
5. This is an independent magazine which consists of 3
main members Paul Allworthy – Art Director, James
Griffin – Joint Editor and David Kane – Joint Editor
which makes it hard for them to compete compared to
if they had started 5 years ago, when they would of
have the commercial backing of sponsorships to help
them run the magazine.
Readers consist of the ABC1 social classes between the
ages of 25-35 due to the fact the magazines format is
professional as well as classy towards aspects of an in
depth culture, despite the genre being stereotypically
associated with youth as the magazine is re-defining
the genre.
6. These are some covers I wish to base my magazine on due to their unique design. What I like
about the first magazine is that although the image is dominant the text is just as equally
dominant due to the effects used to make the text stand out and urban, this kind of design is
what I want to implement into my magazine. I like the way that the second magazine in
designed non-conventionally because then the audience will expect a different kind of
magazine which will make them want to buy it and also the text blends in with the image so
they are combined which makes it more interesting. I like that the third magazine has a
retro effect to back up the background of the hip-hop genre with its text that stands out
because the images and text are crisp in quality which makes the magazines aesthetic look
more effective.
7. In this contents page everything is laid out neatly in accordance with the topic
and borderlines are used to help enforce that as well as adding to the design of
the page as a whole which is something I want to take further in my magazine.
Each sub heading is divided into 3 parts whereby the main heading is in bold to
stand out as the sub heading and the next two pieces or information – the little
blurb and page number – follow on towards the right hand side. The simplistic use
of two colours also helps make contents page look professional and I think it
improves the appearance as it makes the sole purpose of the contents page stand
out as it needs to be clear and easy to read in order to navigate the reader to the
whereabouts of the content’s.
8. What I like about these covers is that they
mainly stick to two colours which proves most
effective with their white backgrounds on the
secondary page that contains the article. I also
like the title fonts that they use because it is
kept consistent throughout the magazine which
keeps it professional as well keeping it in an
urban retro font to keep with its context roots. I
think having a dominant image like magazine
one is a good idea especially with the mood
lighting which provides mood for the article
furthermore the colours go down nicely with the
dominant image to simply describe the image
via the name of the article alongside a
borderline which adds to the aesthetic design.
The borderlines make the pages seem more
neat which is an aspect I wish to include in my
magazine to add a sense of professionalism and
act as margins for my text. I like the third
double page spread as the image takes up both
pages and the sub heading is the same size as
the main heading but in a different colour so it
improves the appearance straight away. Also I
think having the text all at the bottom of the
page with a different contrasting background is
a good idea as it challenges convention which
also allows you to admire the image better.
