1. What kind of media institution
might distribute your media
product and why?
2. A media conglomerate, media group or media institution is a company
that owns large numbers of companies in various mass media, for
example radio/television etc. Conglomerates are also known as the BIG 6.
Conglomerates are large that they have the ability and financial support
to create quality films that the audience is satisfied with rather than
Independent film companies. They also have more contacts which
enables the product they are selling to be more recognised.
For example: Walt Disney is the most profitable media company. They
have profit of $4.8 billion and a revenue of $40.89 Billion. In 2012 the film
‘The Avengers’ grossed $1 billion worldwide in 19days.
However, since conglomerates are mainly about making money, and if
previous story lines have interested the audience, usually they will recycle
old story lines and to catch the viewer even though, they may have seen
something similar before.
Conglomerates
3. Independent film is a smaller production company with a specific
target audience and have a must smaller budget for production than
a conglomerate.
Indie films storyline is more varied as it has fresh items unlike
conglomerate which reuse their storylines often.
However, financial backing for the production is a problem, problems
arise during production due to a more limited budget and may be
hard to hire certain actors for a certain amount. Also another issue
would be that indie films have less connections which means it would
take longer to distribute the film to the audience.
Working Film have created many films which have been collaborated
with Universal Pictures which allowed their movies to be targeted at a
wider target audience than what they would have usually.
Independent Film
Companies
4. A film distributor is company which releases a
movie to the public either theatrically or for home
viewing (DVD, Video-On-Demand).
A major film studio is a production and distribution
company that releases a substantial number of
films annually and consistently commands a
significant share of box-office revenues in a given
market.

5. Our media product would be distributed by an
Independent film company. This would be for
many reasons. Mainly because our budget was
low and didn’t put any money towards the
making of the film. Also the equipment we used is
not as advanced as what conglomerates would
use. The storyline we chose isn’t recycled so we
would want our work to be unique unlike the Big
