2. What have you learned about planning ?
(ideas, research, mise-en-scene)
In the preliminary task we were given to topics for an advert to choose from. They included illegal
downloading or a anti- smoking. After discussing with my group (Nertila, Shannon and Ioteng) we
decided to choose illegal downloading over anti- smoking.
Everyone in my group came up with an idea which they then shared with the group and as a group
we used elements of the ideas brought forward to come up with our final idea.
Our final idea - The opening sequence will begin with two people in a room. The two characters are
having a conversation. The mood is relaxed and happy. Another character enters the room and is
less willing to download the videos. Close up shots on the characters are used to show facial
expressions and wide shot of all the characters are used. The security guard enters the room and a
close up is used on their hand. There is a confrontation.
In the planning stage I learnt that it is essential to listen to others in the group and communication
is important in order to insure that everyone in the group has contributed to the final idea, as well
as this planning is key when producing a video as it is guideline throughout the process.
3. As part of our planning we carried out research of professional camera
shots, that we could incorporate in our advert. As a group we discussed
the different camera shots/angles that would work best for our advert.
4. When the planning stage was complete my group worked together
to complete the following paperwork
Risk assessment
The risk assessment was conducted in order to help us identify potential hazards and
risks that may be present at the shooting scenes and the importance of safety.
5. Story board
The story board included the individual scenes that would be put together to make a
film. The storyboard allowed me to see the individual items and characters in each
scene, and my group referred back to it in the filming processes.
6. Script
Script
The scene will be set in a youth centre.
W.S
Two friends are sitting around a table, the third friend walks (Tracking shot) through the door to the table and begins
to conversate.
M.C.U Alex
(Already sitting at the table)
T.S John walks in through door.
“Hi mate, where ya been”
S.R.S John
(holding laptop)
“Just been downloading some new tunes”
S.R.S & C.U Melissa
(looks up from reading a book)
“Isn’t that expensive though?” (Says confused)
John & Alex
(Laughs)
M.C.U John
“Don’t you know about downloading tunes, it’s so easy!” (Says excitedly)
A group of security gaurds/ police burst in shouting
C.U & W.S Police man 1,2 & 3
“Freeze, Freeze!” (shouting)
Cuffs Alex and John
Police man 1
“You are under arrest for illegal downloading, anything say or do may be given as evidence which may be used in
court”
When we produced the script we had think about dialogue and interactions between the
characters as well as the location. The script was essential in the filming process, as it
provided our group with direction.
7. What have you learned about using equipment?
In my group we decided that everyone should take
charge of a different element in the filming processes.
Each person was given an equipment and a role to carry
out.
I was allocated the role for sound. I used the
microphone, headphones and the bean pole. I found it
straight forward using the microphone, and I learnt the
importance of picking up sound in a video as the
characters in dialogue need to be heard, especially
when the camera is moving.
8. What have you learnt about editing?
My group used Final cut Pro to edit our video. During editing i learnt various techniques that
create an effective video. This includes adding text to the video to give the provide the
viewer with key information, cutting different clips to shorten the video and include the
footage that i want to be viewed, adding back ground sounds to make the advert more
dramatic and adding transitions to create an effective transition between different clips.,
9. What did I learn about linking theory to practice?
My group used the knowledge we learnt in textual analysis such as camera
shots, sounds and mise -en-scene and we applied this to our video. I learnt that
it is important to be familiar with all the theory aspects when producing a video
as it ensures that we can use the different elements in our video in order for it
to be effective. I believe that my group did not manage to add certain elements
to our video, however we did use sound and different camera shots and angles.
