A graveyard.

At night.

In the rain.

I think you can see where this is going. But if not, allow me to spin a little tale out
for you. For in this graveyard, alone, at night in the rain knelt a lone figure. She
leant down to the freshly turned earth covering the grave which she so tenderly
cared for, and stroked the ground in front of her.
Her dressed billowed in the wind as her gentle sobs hung in the air, waiting for
someone to hear them.

But it was a graveyard. At night. In the rain.

So what do ya think was going to happen?!
“Gentle Lady.. You seem ill at ease on this lonely night, night of all nights.”

“*sniff sob splutter* What? Oh goodness, I thought I was all alone! In this
graveyard, at night, in the rain.”

“Well you are longer, my Lady. Your cries have drawn me here.”

“Forgive me sir, for you have startled me so! But I am most heavy of heart on this
night of all nights.”
“Aww, there there – it‟s alright. I‟m here now.”

The newcomer pulled the maiden into a tight embrace and patted her on the back,
anxious for her river of tears to cease. Oddly enough, they had suddenly been
replaced with gasps.
“Why SIR!” cried the maiden, shaking herself loose from the embrace. “Do you not
think that rather forward for such a time, all alone in a graveyard at night in the
rain?”

“Forgive me my Lady, I merely wished to comfort you on this night, for I cannot
bear to see a maid in the throes of such sadness. It is my duty as a Knight of the
Kingdom to put right such wrongs.. Pray tell, what vexes you so, dear Lady?”
“Aye, it is a most tragic tale Good Knight.

For I am the Lady Ginevra, and my heart is heavy with much woe. For you see Sir,
here lies my one true Love. Taken cruelly from me before our time was through,
and into the kingdom of the Reaper and all things of the bad. And now I am left
here alone, with a broken heart and only a grave to tend.

I know what I must do now, but my soul cannot face the task alone. Who pray tell
are you, Good Sir Knight?”
“I, dear Lady, am Sir Vox-a-lot – Defender of Good, Righter of Wrongs, and Saviour
of all maidens across the land.

No tear shall they shed, no hug go un-hugged and no kiss un-kissed while I am
near to protect them and all that they hold dear. And you, Fair Lady, appear in need
of some assistance as your tale goes.”
“Yes, it would be rightly so my Good Sir. For although my Love is gone, the village
folk tell me there is a way to see him once more.”

“There is? Go on, Sweet Lady.”

“They say one must visit the Count and Countess in yonder castle and they may
give aid, but I am sore afraid.”

“Which castle?”

“YONDER!””
“Oh my, Fair Lady I heed your words – that indeed looks most fearful!”

“Exactly. Like I said – sore afraid.”

“And you must travel there to seek your True Love?”

“Aye.”
“Legend has it that the Count and Countess of the Castle can bring my love back
to me.”

“How, Fair Lady?”

“I know not, but I must try. However.. They say that only the bravest of heart and
truest of soul can find their way through the castle, for the Count and Countess do
not give their help freely and challenge all those who seek it with the most wicked
of wickedness. And for that reason, I dare not enter the gates.”
The Knight fell to his knees beside the Lady, and looked honestly into her
tearstained face.

“My good Lady, if I may be so bold, allow me to accompany you on this most
perilous of journeys. I have it not in my heart to leave one such as yourself on this
night of all nights, in a graveyard at night in the rain when there is questing to be
done! I am at your service, Fair Lady.”

“Oh goodness!” the Maiden gasped. She had not been expecting such kindness,
on this night of all nights.

“Please Madam, it would make my heart sore to see you suffer.”
“For your Love, you must allow me to accompany you this eve.”

The Lady turned to look at the tombstone in front of her, and the felt the weight of
her heart upon her. Looking out past the forest towards where her fate lay, she
sighed.

For my love.. She though.

“Good Sir Knight, I accept your offer!”
“TO THE CASTLE!”

----
“Well that took longer than expected. It‟s nearly midnight! Apologies fair maiden, if
only I hadn‟t lost my horse in that tavern game..”

“It matters not, for at least the rain has ceased. My goodness, this castle looks
even more foreboding up close, although.. I must say, it is not the cleanest place in
the world.”
“And what have you against my housekeeping skills, madam?” spoke a bedraggled
stranger, leaning up against the courtyard wall.

“If it‟s good enough for me, it damn well should be good enough for you. Now who
are you, and what do you want? I don‟t enjoy people loitering in my yard, I deserve
to enjoy my vino in peace.”
“Good Sir, my name is Sir Vox-a-lot and this is the Lady Ginevera. We seek an
audience with the Count and Countess of this Castle. And know might you be?”

“Do you now? Well. I am the Gatekeeper.”

“You have a name, Sir?”

“Not that I recall. Just the Gatekeeper, plain and simple. And as the name implies,
as far as I‟m concerned you‟re going nowhere „Sir‟”
“In fact I- oow..” The Gatekeeper winced as he stood, cutting his words off mid-
sentence.”

“Are you in pain, Mr. Gatekeeper?” asked the Lady.

“S‟alright.”

“Yes, may we assist you in any way?” added the Knight, “we can offer nothing but
our help.”
“No one can help me..” muttered the man.

“But Sir, no one is beyond help.” said the maid nervously, wringing her hands as
she began to fret for the stranger. “Please.”

“No. My job is to guard these gates, not to prattle the night away with strangers. I
have a duty to uphold.” He turned and walked back towards his hut, but was not let
be by his guests.
“But Sir-”

“Why do you seek entrance here anyway?” snapped the peasant, turning around
the face the maiden with a snarl. “It is a foul place, full of those things of which I
dare not speak. You do not belong here, only those such as myself should be
punished in such a way.”

The Lady gulped as she spotted something behind the Gatekeeper.

“Is that.. Is that..” She began nervously.

“Yes, it is a grave.” he replied impatiently, “of my predecessor as it happens. We
Gatekeepers are chosen for our special.. Skills as it were, and one day his luck ran
out. The Countess said he deserved it, and I deserve the same fate. Why would
you want to meet such a woman?”
“Please. I am seeking my True Love, to be united with him once more. I hear tell
that the Count can help me. And Sir Vox-a-lot is willingly accompaning me, for I do
not wish to enter such a place alone.”

“A wise view to take, m‟lady. And where is your love?”

“Dead.”
“And so shall you be if you do not heed me! Leave this place, and give up your
search maid. No joy awaits you here, I can promise you that!”

“You cannot know that.”

At this, the Gatekeeper became visibly furious.
“‟I cannot know‟ Of course I know! This castle breeds misery and suffering, and that
is why I am a part of it. No one leaves these walls alive – no one! Including me,
including you. Now leave, if you know what‟s good for you. And by my watch you
need to do so soon.”

“But-”
Seeing the distraught look upon the Lady‟s face, the Good Knight quickly stepped
in.

“I think what the lady means Gatekeeper, is that although we take your warning to
good heart, we kindly ask for your assistance in gaining entrance to this castle, evil
as it may be. Or possibly Evil, or maybe even eeevil – one never knows. But it is
imperative that we journey inside with your blessing.”
“For Sir – have you never been in love?”

As the Knight finished, the Gatekeeper fell silent.

Sighing, he closed his eyes and turned from the pair.
“Once. In a life I had all but forgotten.”

A small smile spread across his face.

“Alright, I will help you. For I can understand your wish you cling to love, Lady.
Were we all but so lucky..” he sighed, and opened the door to a small room off the
courtyard.
“Just do not tell the Countess it was I who helped you, for I would rather avoid such
a fate at present.”

“Sir?”

“My job is to keep people out, not let them in when they look at me with sad eyes
and speak of hearts full of love.

I hope you find him, dear Lady. For your own sake.”
“And most importantly, do not-..”

As the Gatekeeper reached out for the rusty iron key, his breath caught in his
throat and he suddenly came to a stop. Fighting, he lifted the key from it‟s hook
and clutched it tight in his fist.

It was too late.
Pawing at his throat, struggling to find some air, he turned from the room to face
the two and fought to form words.

“Run! You must run!” he choked. “Go – go now!”
“Oh my goodness!” gasped the maiden, and drew back in fright.

“Sir, whatever is the matter? You look most unwell, and this has come on all of a
sudden. Have you perhaps the plague?” offered the Knight,
“No you fools.

Run, you must run!

There is but little time left for you both.”
“Mr Gatekeeper, I shall not run. I have come here to seek my Love, and I am not
leaving without! So instead, let me tend to you. For somehow I feel most
responsible for your plight, and wish to ease your suffering. Shall I fetch you some
camomile water, of some sort? For that is sure to ease the pain.”
“Just.. Take these! If you must enter the castle, than do so with great haste. You
must be gone from this place, I did warn you!”

The Gatekeeper threw the keys to the floor in front of the Knight, who bent to pick
them up. As he did so, the Gatekeeper began to writhe in pain.
A peculiar light emanated from his body, and the Gatekeeper was able to speak
one final stern warning to the travellers.

“Get.. Inside.

... .... .. It‟s your only chance!

GO.”
“Oh Sir Vox-a-lot, he looks in so much pain. We simple must do something to
alleviate his suffering!”

But the Good Knight did not share the Lady‟s worried looks of compassion towards
the man, and instead an expression of terror spread over his face as the gravity of
the situation dawned on him.

“Fair Lady, I do believe we should heed his words and make for the inner walls of
this castle. At once!”

“But-”

The Lady had no time to argue, as the Knight grabbed her by the arm and rather
unceremoniously pulled her towards the door.
“AAAAAAAAAARGGH-

*snarl*

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR-
AOWOOOOOOOOOOH”

The transformation complete, a piercing howl spread out across the castle
grounds.
“Oh my! He‟s a.. He‟s a.. Sir Vox-a-lot, he‟s a..”

“I know!”

“But goodness, we must get inside the castle at once!”

“I KNOW.”

“I did not come all this way just to die at the hands of a beast, use the key good
Sir!”

“I AM.”
“Ah, but my claws would make such light work of that lock.

And for that matter, your flesh strangers.”

The wolf flexed his fingers at the thought, and glanced towards the maid.
“HURRY UP!” she shrieked.

“Good Lady, I BLOODY WELL AM.”

“..I‟m going to die aren‟t I?”
“Quite probably.”

A cruel smile spread across the wolf‟s face as we began advancing towards the
shaking maiden and fumbling Knight.

“In fact, I would say most definitely. There is no escape from here, and you most
certainly will not get that door open in time. My counterpart must have given you
the wrong key. Oh what a shame. So now I-”
*click*

“GOT IT!”
To their great relief the great door swung open, and feeling the wolf‟s breathe on
their necks, the partners made a break for it.

“Hurry my lady, make haste!”

“Oh, don‟t you worry about that Sir..”

As soon as they were clear, the Knight slammed the door shut with all his might.
The blot drawn, he lent against the great slab and attempted to catch his breath.

“A werewolf.. My, I was not expecting to be greeted with such a creature upon this
quest. My Lady, are you alright? Did the beast harm you?

“No, but I am even more afraid than before we came to this place. I dread the think
what would have happened if I had ventured here alone!”

“Well Fair Lady,” gasped the Knight, “it is just as well I would never permit such a
thing.”
As they slowly calmed, the Knight and Lady looked started to take in their
surroundings of the brightly lit inner courtyard.

But it seems that they did not please the Lady.

“Oh bother!”
“This is going to be one of those places filled with endless doors, is it not?”

“I believe so My Lady, and I can but imagine what will behind each one. But surely
it cannot be worse than what we have just faced?”

“Oh don‟t say that!”

“Sorry. But waiting here will not do us much good. Come maiden.” said the Knight
bravely, and pushed open the door in front of them.

The sight they met was a strange one indeed.
“Greetings travellers.”
“Um.. Greetings small children! What a lovely, erm, dungeon it is you have here.

Would you mind letting us through that door over there? We have grown-up
business to attend to you see.”
“It is not a dungeon, it is our sanctuary. And no, you shall not pass.”

“Oh.”

“Who be you, strange travellers?”
“I am the Lady Ginevera, and I seek my true love within these walls.”

“And I am Sir Vox-a-lot, defender of all maidens of this world. Who might you be,
small ones? If you are but trapped here I will gladly carry you to safety.”

“SILENCE! Cease your twittering.”
“We see the future.”
“We know the future.”
“We ARE the future.

And to gain passage through our sanctuary, you must answer us these questions
three.”
“Good Sir Knight, how is your brain?” whispered the Lady.

“Er, a bit hand tilty if I‟m honest.”

“Yes, me as well..”

“QUESTION THE FIRST.”

“Wait, we‟re not ready!”
“They say we are bringers
  Of gifts the most great
  Yet some still remain
 Who we choose to hate

 We loath you begonias
And your pink flamingos
Your fountains of fortune
    An absolute no

    Call us in Autumn
We will laugh in your face
 For our ranks are closed
And your family disgraced.

      Who are we?”
“AAAAAARGH!”

“My Lady!” cried the panicked Knight, as the maid began to stomp her feet and
wave her arms in the air in a most disturbing manner.
“What ails you? Have you a demon?!”

“No, it‟s them! It‟s THEEEEEEM!”

“Who do you speak of, Fair Lady?”
“The Garden Club!” she cried, “The blinkin‟ GARDEN CLUB.”

“Be calm maid, be calm!”

But the Knight could not restrain her.

“I hate them! Loathe them and all their little Twit Faces! Mock me, all they ever do
is choose to mock me, and palm me off with excuses. I don‟t trust them one little
bit, no indeed I do not!”

“Breathe dear Lady, breathe!”
Taking several deep breathes, the maid finally lowered her arms.

“The Garden Club.” she sighed.
“It is the Garden Club of which you speak. The scum of the village.”
“Oh no, they are correct! This a disaster, what are we going to do now? Oh no, oh
no..”

“Hush sister. It is not a-over.”

The child seated on the crate spoke calmly, dismissing her sister‟s worries with her
eyes fixed upon the travellers.
“Although..” she said as she stood. “It was a-most unfair of you to a-get that so
quickly.”

“Apologies young maiden, but we seek-”

“No matter. We are not a-finished yet. Sister, get them.”
“Gladly!

My question for you is short and sweet,
When do giraffes have but eight feet?”
“What?! I came to a dingey castle and I‟m being asked about giraffes?”

“Hush Lady, I‟m trying to think.. Hm. They have big necks, eight feet of neck? No
no, that‟s can‟t be right.. When they‟ve had some odd surgery.. Erm.. Come on
maiden, help!”

“Well I don‟t know! When there‟s a nuclear reactor involved?”
“Haha, I‟ve got you now!

You‟re waaaay off, you‟re never going to get past us!

Isn‟t that right brother and sister? “

“A-yes indeed sister of ours, yes indeed.”
“Hang on.” said the Knight suddenly. “I suppose there could be eight legs if there
are two of them?”

“Well that was rather anti-climatic.”
“Oh. Yes. That‟s right.”

The child began to wring her hands.

“Siste-er.. They got it right! What are we going to do now? Oh dear oh dear..”
“Right! I have a-had enough of you two thinking you are so a-clever!” growled the
child.

“Here is one you cannot possibly a-get!

Which of us shall be the next heir of the Tegenaria Legacy?”
“Er, Good Sir Knight? What‟s a Legacy?”

“I do not know. And what is this „Tegenaria‟ of which they speak? Again I know not,
but I cannot shake this feeling that I‟m supposed to know.”

“As do I! Isn‟t that strange? But I feel that the answer to this question is a decision
that I should be making.”

“And I feel it is one that I should be choosing. Hm..”
“Well Sir, if I think I should be making it, and you think you should be making it –
shall we make it together?”

“My Lady, what a splendid idea! Neither of us knows what it means anyway so two
guesses are better than one. On the count of three, we shall point to whichever
child we feel like.”

“Excellent idea! Okay, one.. Two..
THREE!”
“Fair Lady, I do believe that we both pointed to the same child!”

“Yes, clearly it was a decision to be made together. And if we both agree, then we
must certainly be correct!”
“Oh crab-crumbs..” sighed the question giver. “Once again they a-have somehow
a-given the correct solution. How un-a-fair.

You may a-pass.”
“Wait.”

The second-question giver began to walk slowly towards the Knight, ignoring
confused and furious gazes from her siblings, still holding fort in front of the door.

She was apparently not finished yet.
“I have something to tell you.”

Intrigued, the Knight bent down to the small maid who leant close to his ear.
“Don‟t worry.” she whispered.

“You‟re doing the right thing. Just follow your heart and everything will turn out
alright in the end. And don‟t worry, I will be fine. I am stronger than you all think.”
“Aww, well aren‟t you sweet!” smiled the Knight, ruffling the child‟s hair.

“I have no idea what you‟re on about, but thank you very much! You have a nice
day too.”

The girl sighed and shook her head, as the Knight gave her another cuddle.
“...Can we go yet?”
“Yes, yes you may. If you are a-sure you want to that is „Lady‟. For there is a-
reason why we a–stay in our sanctuary and do not a-venture beyond. This castle
still holds much for you to meet.”

Choosing to ignore the children, the Lady and Good Knight opened the door behind
the small ones, and continued deep into the castle walls.
“So where are we now?”

“To be honest I have no idea.. But my, isn’t it gloomy in here?”
“Indeed so, I’m not really sure where we are at all. But at least I can’t see any more
small and angry maids!”

“Why yes Sir, that is most fortuative. But.. Can you hear something?”
“Don‟t fuss so maiden, I‟m sure it is nothing. And from what I can see this chamber
appears to be empty.”

“I just do not like to trust to such things! We‟ve already had more than enough
surprises for one night, and I would hate to find but another. Now, if this room if
empty as you so claim, then-”

Sadly for the Lady, a cough broke her stream.
“Oh deary me Good Sir Vox-a-lot, whatever now?”

“I am unsure. Who be you, across the room?”
“Welcome friends, to my home.

My own little kingdom as it were, for you see friends – I am the King of the Living
Dead.”
“And you have wandered into my domain, I cannot be letting you go without joining
my legion, or just watching you plain die. Either is fine for me, but I must say Lady
– you would make a fine pet indeed.. It would be such a shame to just let you
leave. The other? ..Meh.”
“Meh? But no one has ever „meh‟ed me before!” said the rather appalled Knight.

“Oh hush Sir, and you, King thingy, you‟re all the way over there! Stuck in a little
pen on your funny throne! What could you possibly do to us? We are quite safe
from you I daresay. Besides, you don‟t look very dead so we have no reason to
fear you.
“Ah, a partial truth. It is true I choose to remain on my throne to keep my distance
from my subjects for obvious reasons. For have you not realised dear friends? We
are not alone in this chamber.

Take a look down there.”
The Good Knight peered over the balcony running all around the chamber and saw
before him a large pit, filled with barely-living creatures, dragging their bodies and
tails around the floor letting out the most bizarre of cries.
It was then to his horror that he saw the only exit from the chamber was on the far
side of the pit.

The only way for him to save the Lady, was to go through the creatures.

And this thought did not cheer him one bit. The stench for a start was.. Not exactly
pleasant.
“Ah ha, so you see now dear friends? My pets, the Zombie Shrews stand between
you and passage. The only way through is to slay the wretched creatures, and
seeing as they amass you in numbers and are also undead – I fear this may be a
bit of an issue for you.

But no matter for me, for my pets have extremely sharp teeth as I‟m sure you will
find out for yourselves, dear friends, as they take the flesh from your bones.

And further more-”
“Can I have a slice of cockroach cake instead pleeeeeeease?”

“What? YOU?! QUIET!”

“Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease?”

“Get away from my throne foul creature, you are not worthy. AWAY I say!”
“But we‟re all ever so hungry. It‟s not very nice down here at all, no no it isn‟t.

Just a little starfish souffle? It would make all the difference in the world. “
“Ooooh, yes please Sire!”
“I‟m so hungry!”
“Can I have some more?”
“Just some slug sandwiches, it‟s all we ask!”

The squeaks and mews increased as more Shrews heard the words of food, and
began to cluster at their master‟s feet with mournful looks upon their faces.
“No no NO!

Be gone vile things, I bloody hate the lot of you and you don‟t half SMELL.

You are nowhere even near worthy to be at my feet, SHOO!”
But the gaggle became ever larger, and it didn‟t take long for the entire chamber to
filled with incessant Shrew chatter.

“Turtle truffles!”
“Snail salad!”
“Frog fritters!”
“Bluebottle-berry muffins!”
Roast roach!”
“MMMM YES! ROAST ROACH PLEEEEEEEEEASE!”
“Okay, while they‟re all busy we need a plan my Lady.”

“Sneak behind them now?!”

“I fear the King will alert the creatures, dear maiden, and we shall not make it
through safely. No, what I feel we should do is take a look around while we have
the chance, and see if there is anything that can help us come up with a plan.”
Although the Lady was not optimistic, it took but seconds for her to spot something
of interest. She stood at the stairs leading downwards towards the Zombie Shrews
and cried with joy.

“Quick Good Sir, quick! Down there in the corner of the pit, look Sir, look!”
Shining in the gloom was a bright sword, magnificent in its glory and a sure means
of safe passage across the pit. It‟s strong blade was the answer to their problem!

.. If only it wasn‟t stuck in a big old rock.
“Ha HA! Excellent work maiden, I am an expert in the art of sword-craft and beast-
slaying! We shall be out of here in no time, those foul creatures do not stand a
chance against Sir Vox-a-lot!”

“If you say so..”

“I do indeed!” cried the Knight as he ran down the stairs towards the blade.
“All I need you to do my Lady, is to create a distraction while I remove it from its
holdings.”
Not knowing quite what else to do, the Lady gingerly followed the Knight down the
staircase and into the pit below. The Zombie Shrews were still hard at work
badgering their King for some food, but she was still not best pleased at the
situation.

“A distraction? Are you sure? What am I supposed to do!”
“Anything you want!” the Knight replied without looking round.

“Hm.. Now where to begin with this.. Surely this can‟t be too hard.”
“Oh now, that‟s helpful.” the Lady sighed, and went back to looking around.

Until something caught her eye.

“I wonder..”
Swelling piano music..
“At first I was afraid
        I was petrified

Kept thinking I could never live
   without you by my side”
“But then I spent so many nights”

“MUUURGH?!?”
“Thinking how you did me wrong
       And I grew strong”
“ AndI learnt how to get along!”
“And so you're back!
 From outer space!”
“I just walked in to find you here
with that sad look upon your face”
“I should have changed that stupid lock
I should have made you leave your key”
“If I had known for just one second
you'd be back to bother me!”
“Go on now GO!
        Walk out the door!

        Just turn around now
'cause you're not welcome anymore”
“Weren't you the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye?”
“You think I'd crumble?
You think I'd lay down and die?”
“Oh no, not I!
          I will survive!

Oh, as long as I know how to love
I know I will stay alive”
“I've got all my life to live
I've got all my love to give”
“And I'll survive..

 I will survive..”
“GOT IT!”
“Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeak!”
*scurry scurry scurry*
“Er.. What are they doing?”
“Well Good Sir Knight, I believe that they don‟t particularly want to be slain.

And I can‟t say I blame them, to be honest I‟m actually rather fond of the odd little
things I must say. They‟re sort of.. Cute. And fun.

On second thoughts, shall we not slay them?”
Upon hearing these words all the Zombie Shrews promptly leapt up and gathered
around the Lady.

“Oh Shrew! Thank you kind Shrewette, we really didn‟t want to be slain. We much
prefer to sing and dance and frolic, being properly dead would be so.. Un-shrew.
May we give you our utmost thanks?”

“Er.. You‟re welcome?”
*nuzzle nuzzle nuzzle*

“Hehe, that tickles.. Aww, you‟re so fluffy!”
“Me!
“Me now!”
“I want a go!”
“Me!”
“I want to show my affection!”
“SHREW!”

“Fear now little ones, there‟s no need to push! Or crowd. Oow, or be quite so
rough..”
“OOW!

Stoppit.

HELP! I think I‟m being nuzzled to death by Zombie Shrews!”
“Fear not my Lady!

Sir Vox-a-lot TO THE RESCUE!”
“Back! Back you strange beasts! Bother this lady to more!”

“MuuurghSQUEAK!!”

“Be careful – Don‟t hurt them! Don‟t wave your sword around so much, you‟re
scaring them.”

“Sorry, sorry.. But look, they‟re retreating! Now‟s our chance fair maiden.”
“I‟m really beginning to loathe these doors..”
“Oh Shrew.. The nice lady left.

Never mind, at least you‟ve still got us haven‟t you Sire?”
The King of the Living dead sighed.

“Unfortunately.”

----
“You say „Look an empty room!‟ again, you know I‟m going to kill you right?”

“I know. But hey, maybe this time it is that easy My Lady!”
“Good Sir, I value your companionship greatly on this quest, but has experience not
taught you anything? This Castle does not appear to be a simple place.”

“Ah, but now I have this Big Shiny Sword™ nothing can stand between us and our
goal!”

“Hmm. Well, if you‟re sure – I trust you Good Knight. But just to be on the safest of
sides, let‟s just walk straight to the door without touching anything, okay?”

Fine, fine.”
The pair nearly managed such a deed, but all the strange objects surrounding them
couldn‟t help but grab the Knight‟s attention.

“Fair Maiden, look at this. This text is written in such strange runic markings..”
“It‟s ever so odd, I must say!

What kind of madman would read such a thing?”
“AAAAWUUUGGGH!!”

Apparently the dusty book did not approve of being insulted in such a manner.

“..I did say not to touch anything. No one ever listens to the Lady!”
“But I must say, there are some most strange things here.. What make you of
them, Good Sir Knight?”

“I preferred the Zombie Shrews.” he sighed, nursing his injured hand and casting
suspicious glances towards the now still book.
“And such pungent odours! Quite intoxicating.. Smells of fish almost!”

“Er, is that a good thing?”

“Um, no.”
“Okay Good Sir, this place does not appear to exactly sensical.”

“Agreed Dear Lady, I couldn‟t want a hand such as delicate and sweet as yours to
be bitten by such an accursed objects.”

“Aww, aren‟t you sweet. But yes Sir Knight, I think it best we hasten out the door
while the moment strikes us.”
“Besides, there doesn’t appear to be anyone in this strange place.”
“So I think we- Oh my fishness!”

“Bwuuuuuarck !”

“Sir Vox-aLot, are you feeling quite well?”
“Bwuuuarck? Bwuuarck buwaaarck!!”

“Oh my.. Ehehehe, why Sir! That is most amusing, but I really think we should be
going.”

“Bwuarck.”
“Yes what a wonderful joke! But please cease this Good Sir, it is becoming rather
unnerving..”
“Aaargh! Eek! Bees! It feels like there are lots of little tiny bees buzzing all around
my head!”

“BWUUUUUUARCK!”

“Stoppit at once I say, I‟m a Lady! A Lady who‟s covered in beeeeees..”
“Hehehehe..”

“BWAHAHAHAHA! That is awesome. Good one „Rels.”

“Thanks! But teeheehee.. Just look at that doofus dancing around like a bird!”
“It can‟t be said that we never have any fun „Rels.”

“Totally not ES, I love it. But I gotta say, watching these two poke their dorky faces
into everything was brilliant.”

“Ah, the life we lead..”
“So, shall we go and introduce ourselves then?”

“To our latest victims you mean? Yes, I don‟t see why not.”

With a final grin at each other, the two witches descended down staircases either
side of their loft perch and turned to face the two travellers.
“Greetings my little lost lambses!

My name is Fairella, and I am the Good Witch of this wonderful castle, and
personal assistant to the Countess herself. But.. Well. If I‟m perfectly honest, it‟s far
more fun working with my buddy here than casting spells of hope and light across
the land. Er, to be honest. I think I might be in the wrong line of work. But then
again, my outfit is just so cute! And I‟d hate to lose it. There was this one time I
went down to the tavern in the village, and this cutest little tousled hair slip of a boy
came up to me, and his eyes just nearly fell out of his head! And then we-”
“No one cares you sparkly moron!

I‟m – Well, if you don‟t know who I am you‟ve been living under some kind of rock
for the last few millenia. Which by the looks of you two, you have.

Oh what the heck, I am Evil Susan! And you are my new play things.”
“Whoa whoa whoa! Hang on ES, we can‟t be poking them with sticks right away.”

“..Why? I don‟t see any other option available to us.”

“I dunno! We could.. Get to know them or something.”

“But whatever for?”
“I want to poke the one with dodgy hair‟s eyes out with my wand.”

“Noooo! I like his eyes, they look like mine! And mine are all pretty. This one guy
once said-”

“That you were about as interesting as glitter on the floor. Look, can I just have a
little hex on the berk in the dress? Something about her just stirs up a rather
vicious hate within me.”

“Who doesn‟t?!”

“Ah, so true „Rels. So true. Now as I was saying!”
“But they could be some new friends for us! Maybe we could not shred them into
little teeny tiny pieces for a change? Just think about it, pleeeeease?”

“Alright, I‟m thinking.. I‟m thinking..”
“Alright, thinking time up – NO, you twat!”

“Oh but ES!”

“..They seem rather caught up in each other don‟t they?” observed the Lady as the
two witches bickered.

“It appears so.” agreed the Knight.
“Look, you‟re wrong now like you always have been. I‟m Evil Susan! And my word
is law!”

“No it isn‟t! You answer to the Countess just like everyone else does. You wouldn‟t
dare cross her.”

“Yes I bloody well would! I‟ve had enough of you – let‟s settle this the proper way.”

And with that the Evil Witch promptly pulled out her wand and strode to the other
side of the room, while the other twirled into an opposing position.
As the cackles and spells flew around the hall, the Knight and Lady stood to face
each other.

“So..” he started.

“They seem pretty happy don‟t they? I‟m sure they wouldn‟t mind if we just..”
“Fluff-brained hussy!”

“Puke-green vomit monster!”

“Tramp in a tutu!”

“AVADA KEDAVRA”

“..Don‟t be silly now.”
“Whatever. Come on ES, you‟ve got to back down sometime! You know I always
win these things.”

“WIN!? The only thing you could win „Rels is a one-way ticket to pains-ville. Actually
you know what? I‟m going to give you that for free!”

“As if. Take THIS!”
“Ow, that actually hurt you moron! You are going to wish you hadn’t done that to
Evil Susan..”

“Oooh, I’m so scared!”

“You damn well should be”
“Heehe! Ooow! Teehee... Argh, stop it ES! It tickles. Teehee! Okay okay, you win.”
said the blue Witch, throwing her wand up in the air.

“We won‟t try and befriend the newbies today.”
“MUAHAHA!

Oh course we‟re not, I always win. I‟m Evil Susan!

Now, where are those lumps of fresh meat..”
“MUAHAHAHA - oh.”

“This is all your fault Evil Susan!”

“My fault? If it wasn‟t for you and your useless wittering they never would have
gotten away!”

“If you‟d only listened to me in the first place. It‟s your fault madam, and we‟re
going to settle this NOW. Duel?”

“You‟re on.”
----
“Oh come on!” shouted a rather exasperated maiden. “How the melon can we not
be there yet?!”

“Calm my Lady, I‟m am sure this must be the last room.”
“Indeed it is wanderer.

I am the last defence before the Countess herself.”
“A duty I uphold most honourably.

No one has ever bested me. And no one ever shall.

My wisdom far exceeds all who‟s paths lead them here.”
“Well that‟s nice. But hi-i, we‟re over here Mr. Last Defence!”

“Yes, turn and face us you blaggard!

I‟ve got a Big Shiny Sword™ and I will use it to protect this beautiful Lady from all
terrors that this castle can throw at us. For I am Sir Vox-a-lot, and there is no
danger I won‟t face to save a maiden in need! Now show yourself like a man.”
“If you insist. And what a rousing little speech that was! I‟m quite moved. Can you
not see the tear forming in my eye? Somehow I‟ll keep them back.

Well Sir Vox-a-lot, I am the great alchemist Sidaro – and may I welcome you to my
„humble‟ laboratory.”
The Knight could not help but keep a smirk from spreading across his face.

“Mhehe.. Your hair!

HaHA, it‟s the most ridiculous thing I‟ve ever seen! No wonder you couldn‟t face us
as a man – you look like a little girl! Ehehehe.. Who hasn‟t washed for three
months! Man, I‟d hide away in a lab if I looked like you with that hair.”
“My hair? You‟re mocking my hair? Well what‟s this supposed to be!? It‟s
ridiculous!” laughed the alchemist, as he started tugging at bits of the Knight‟s hair.

“Oow, stoppit! You‟ll un-smexify i-it..”

“Boys..” sighed the maiden, shaking her head as she looked on.
“My apologies.” said Sidaro, drawing away. “I did not realise that we were in the
prescence of a lady. Where are my manners – may I offer you both a drink?”

“How kind! It‟s about time someone considered the considerable thirst this
adventure has brought upon me.” smiled the maiden.

“Huh?! Oh.. Whatever. Fine.” growled the Knight, scowling at the robed man.

“Very well.”
“IVANO! OH, IVANO!

WE HAVE SOME GUESTS IN NEED OF REFRESHMENT.

COME HERE, IVANO!”
Behind the travellers a bookcase suddenly swung into the wall, and a small green
child appeared with a tray of glasses.

“I‟m coming, I‟m coming. Now don‟t shout! Or I bite you.”
“Now Ivano, I know that you would never bite me.”

“No Master.. I bite them though, yes?”

“Not at the moment Ivano. For now just offering our guests a glass with suffice.”

“Yes Master.”
Turning to the guests he smiled and said;
“Drink this or I BITE YOU.”

Hastily both the Knight and Lady grabbed a goblet.
“You‟re not joining us then?” asked the Knight, upon seeing their host‟s hands were
empty.

“Why no „Sir‟, I find that such frivolities cloud my head for my work. You see, I
actually toil for a living by supplying the Count and Countess with all the potions
and brew they require. I hold down a steady job by nature of my virtues.”
The alchemist looked the Knight up and down. “Unlike some people.” he added.

“Countless maidens have found my services quite incomparable, thank you very
much.”

“I‟ll bet.. Now good „Sir‟, why don‟t you and your friend finish your drinks?”
“I must say Good Knight, this wine is ever so refreshing!” said the Lady as her
companion rejoined her.

“Yes, I suppose it is.” he replied grudgingly.

“Why, I find myself to have already finished my glass!”

To show willing, the Knight also gulped down the rest of the concoction.
“HaHA, yes!”

“We did it Ivano!”

As the Knight drained his glass, the alchemist and child began to celebrate.
Dropping their glasses, the two travellers looked in fear at their jubilations.

“Oh my! I don‟t think I like the tone of your voices!” squealed the Lady. “I am sore
afraid again!”

“..We just did something incredibly stupid, didn‟t we?” sighed the Knight. The
shocks was so great that he was even forced to drop his Big Shiny Sword™ .
“I‟ll say!

You both just drunk our special poison!

HAHA, gonna kill you now.”
“POSION?!” cried the Knight, and stormed up to the alchemist. “What kind of
macbre trick is this? You foul beast of a man!”

“No one ever wants to admit they‟re just stupid..” sighed Ivano.
“If you‟d let me explain..” growled Sidaro, “for just one moment! There‟s no need to
go leaping all over the place without thinking playing the hero.”

“Well there‟s no need to randomly poison strangers!”

“You deserve it with your big stupid sword.”

“Jealous.”

“Show off!”
“HEY!

I don‟t know what the heck is the matter with you two, but if there‟s something you
need to explain Mr. Robes then you‟d darn well better do it quickly! My true love is
at stake here. Not to mention ME.”
“Fine.

Yes, you have both been poisoned. But I have also created an antidote for those
with a mind sharp enough to earn it. Only the very best are worthy of an audience
with the Countess after all.”
“You must choose between these five vials.

One contains the antidote and the other four will merely speed up the poison's
effect.”
“That‟s it? We don‟t get a clue or anything?!”

“No. Those of great intellect need no clues.”

“Grrragh.”
“My Lady, I cannot see any way out of this one.”

“No, nor I! For how are we to choose?”

“I know not. I fear we can but guess”

“But that‟s suicide!”
“Then Fair Lady – allow me to take this risk on your behalf. I shall choose a vial,
and allow it‟s effects to take me.”

“But that‟s far too dangerous! I cannot let you.”

“Please my Lady. If I am wrong, then at least you know one of the incorrect vials,
and it gives you a chance to escape this clearly deranged man.”

“Oh Sir.. I cannot ask you to do that for me.”
“But of course you can! I am Sir Vox-a-lot! It‟s what I do.”

“Only if you are sure.”

“Of course my dear, I promised to return you to your true love and I shall do so
before the night is out. By any means necessary – as is a Good Knight‟s duty.”
The Knight strode strongly towards the table, merely glancing at the alchemist‟s
furious face.

“It doesn‟t matter what you do. You‟re going to die!” chuckled Ivano.

“We‟ll see about that..” said the Knight thoughtfully, as he surveyed the flasks in
front of him.
After a few minutes thought the Knight decided that despite his best intentions, he
really had no clue which vial contained the antidote.

But believing in his promise, he grabbed the first one in front of him and brought it
to his lips.
“Here‟s to you, Sidaro.”

“Mock me not, you are unworthy to touch any of these vials! Let alone see the
Countess, it‟s a right that should be mine alone!”

“Well it‟s a bit too late for that now.” said the Knight, and took a gulp of the green
liquid.
“EEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!”
“Hey, I feel awesome!

Huh, whaddya know.. That was the right potion after all!

My Lady, make haste!”
“So, I guess I chose correctly then. My mind is up to scratch after all then, eh
Sidaro?”

“So it would seem..” the alchemist grumbled quietly.

“But no one ever picks the green one!” cried Ivano, “They all take one took at me
and stay as far away from it as possible!”

“Ah, but a Knight can overcome all adversities! Even.. Small green children.”

“Oh, do shut up.”
“Here you go, fair Maiden.” smiled the Knight, passing her the potion.

“Oh Brave Sir! However did you know which one was correct?”

“My Lady, the flask was the same colour as your beautiful dress – there was no
doubt it could only contain something good inside.”

“Aww, thanks!” she grinned, and downed the rest of the potion.

“You make me sick..” snarled Sidaro.
“Wow, that thing certainly packs a punch! You truly are a worthy companion Good
Sir Knight, I am most glad of your company on this night of all nights. Where would
I be without you?”

“Crying in a graveyard while skunks nibbled at your toes?”

“Most likely.”
“And you.. Well, actually – that was an awesome potion there! I fell better than I
have done for years. Since before I lost my love.. You must be a very talented
alchemist, Sir.”

“Why thank you Maid! And yes, indeed I happen to be just so. I am terribly sorry
that you too had to be caught up in this affair – I never meant to hurt you. Just you
should choose your travel companions more wisely next time. Please forgive me,
and I wish you luck in your adventure.”

“What the heck are you doing..” wondered Ivano.
“Aww, of course I forgive you! And for some reason, being in a laboratory makes
me feel quite safe and at home. Although, it is most different from my normal tower
residence! Ground floor of course.

But thank you, for not letting me die.”

“Maid, think nothing of it.”
“Who said you could embrace her so? How very un-chivalrous of you! And you
didn‟t save her, I did! It was YOU who poisoned her in the first place! You and your
obnoxious servant.”

“So you have something against green children now, do you?”

“No! As it happens I am incredibly fond of green children, just not those who try and
bite me!”

“Oh dear, not again..” sighed the Lady.
“Well I didn‟t want to kill her, she seems more than worthy for an audience with the
Count and Countess! It was you that I wanted to dispose of. Weed out the inferior,
that‟s my job – and you‟re the very image of inferiority!”

“Ow, don‟t poke so hard. I think you need to get out of this dungeon a bit more! The
fumes are clearly going to your head! In fact-”

But before the Knight could get any crosser, the Lady grabbed his arm and
dragged him towards the door and away from the bickering.
“This isn‟t over yet!” he snapped as the Lady strode out the door.

“Oh yes it is. Run along now „Sir‟, I believe you have some woman to chase after.
Enjoy your visit to the Countess, won‟t you?”

With a final stare, the Knight slammed the door behind him and followed the Lady
down the dark passageway.
A little way further down, the Lady turned around the confront the Knight.

“What was that all about then? It was ridiculous! I‟ve never seen such behaviour
from grown men.”

The Knight sighed. The Lady was right.
“My apologies fair maiden, you are quite correct – it is never appropriate to behave
in such a manner.”

“Glad you agree.”

“But there was something about that sorcerer, the way he judged me so! It riled me
more than I have ever known. I felt about five years old! And oh dang it – he made
me so angry I‟ve gone and left my Big Shiny Sword™ behind where I dropped it!
Oh, and I am in no mood to retrieve it.”
“But never mind for we appear to have reached our destination! “

“Oh my, Good Sir you are quite correct! The Count and Countess must surely dwell
behind such a grand door.”

“I bet he couldn‟t have managed to bring you all the way here unscathed.”
“Oh come now! I think that the alchemist is quite happy toiling away in his
laboratory without the rest of the world disturbing him. Is that what is bothering you
so, my Knight?”

“But he made me feel such a fool..”

“But you are quite the opposite! As you rightly said, I would never have made it this
far if it were not for you.”
“And besides, it is you that was chosen to be my companion for this journey, not
he, so rest it from your mind.”

“Thank you my Lady. It has been an honour to travel with you, and you are truly a
great friend. Even if you do shriek rather a lot.”
“It‟s part of the whole deal I‟m afraid. But I return the sentiment, you are a fine and
friend and there is no one better to have brought me this far on our travels.”

“So onward!” cried the Knight happily, his demeanour restored at last.

“Yes dear. But there appears to be a trail of some grilled gooey substance on the
floor leading to the door. And it would not be becoming of a Lady to let her dress
drag in such gubbins! It looks like you‟re going to have to carry me.”

“Onward!”
“Oorf, have you been to the bakers a few too many times this week, my Lady?”

“Shut up. I‟m in mourning!”

“Ah, of course you are. And cake is required for such things?”

“Yes.”
Pushing the door open, the Knight deposited the Lady into the chamber that lay
within. Blinking at the sudden influx of light, the pair looked around them.

“Well.” said the Lady, “this certainly isn‟t what I was expecting.”

“Nor I, fair maid.”
The Knight walked up to the pedestal on which two tall thrones stood and took a
closer look at the strange room.

“Is this a spice rack I see before me?” he mused. “How bizarre..”
“They certainly seem fond of tea.” the Lady observed.

“But although this room appears packed of worldly comforts, the residents appear
nowhere to be seen.”
“Well isn‟t it obvious? One needs to summon them, My Lady. You can hardly
expect the Countess to just sit around all day drinking tea and eating biscuits
waiting for people to drop in and say hello!”

“Why not? That‟s what I‟d do it I was a Countess. But I fear you may be correct
once again Good Sir Knight. Although, what do I say to a Countess?”

“Anything you want!”
Clearing her throat, the Lady timidly began to call out a summons.

“Um.. Excuse me? *cough* If it isn‟t too much trouble, I er would like very much to
er..

Oh, I just cannot do it Sir!”
“Never mind my Lady, let me try.

HEY! COUNT AND COUNTESS!
We want a word with you, we‟ve been through quite enough waiting and running
today from your castle and we COMMAND YOUR PRESCENECE.

NOW!”
“Really, is that so?” spoke the Countess of the Castle.

She and her husband appeared on their thrones as the smoke cleared. Clearly the
Knight‟s words had done their job.

She smiled at the two travellers, and in doing so bared two very white and pointed
teeth beneath her pale lips.
“I can‟t look! I can‟t looooook!”

“Oh good heavens! Vampires..” breathed the Knight, and looked around in panic.
“And me without my Big Shiny Sword™! Fear not Fair Lady, I will still stand by you
till the end, and ward off these vicious monsters the best I can.”

“No wonder everyone is so afraid of this place!”
“And rightly so.” continued the Countess.
“My husband and I have ruled over these lands for centuries, and shall do so for all
time to come. I commend you for daring to face the trials of our Castle, for they
have been many and great in danger. Only the strongest survive and although you
have made it this far, I‟m afraid I don‟t take kindly to those interrupting my personal
time.”

Throughout her speech, the travellers couldn‟t help but notice a rather strained
expression on the Countess's face.
The Count had also seemingly noticed, and let out a laugh.
“My darling! I admire your efforts greatly – but do not try to hold it in. You would not
be yourself otherwise, nor the woman I fell in love with. Please. Go ahead.”

“Aww, poppet-nose!”
“Roight, I gives up I do!” she cried and threw her hands in there air. “‟ere, what
does you want anyways? You is from the village, ain‟t you Miss? I „ave seen you
around before I „ave! „Specially down the tavern, quaffin‟ cider and chattin‟ about
nonsense.

But I ain‟t never seen your grinn-y faced companion before I „aven‟t? What is you
boff doin‟ „ere?”
“Please Great Countess, I have heard tales of your powers far and wide. I have
been left with no choice except to seek you out, although it was not a quest I
undertook lightly.

This is Sir Vox-a-lot, and he has delivered me safely to you out of the goodness of
his heart and I owe him much thanks. For you see Countess – I have lost my Love.
Cruelly snatched away from me before our time together was through and now I
am sore alone. I have come to you to beg for aid, I have heard many a-rumour
that you may be able to return my Love to me. Please, my happiness is at your
mercy.”
The Countess studied the maid‟s face, and after a while slowly rose from her
throne.

“You is speakin‟ to me of Love, young maiden, and I see the desperation in your
eyes to be reuni‟ed, I do. The rumours of which you speak is also true, they is. Yes,
I can „elp you. And I will.”
“For I know a fing or two about love, I do.

You see, before I met moi one true love „ere, I was also roight sore alone too, I
was. Moi loife was not one which I like to chat‟er about it ain‟t, but I remebers the
pain of bein‟ alone, I do. You speak wiv truf in your eyes and I understan‟ that your
love must be as grea‟ as moin is for my chicken bum. Ooow, he‟s well lovely „ee is!
I couldn‟ even imagine anuvver day wivout „im..”
“Oh my, what a lovely ceiling! Mm yes. If I just keep looking at the ceiling
everything will be okay.. No more squicky feelings! Just nice safe ceiling.”

“Okay.. That‟s great and everything, but what about me? You said you‟d help me
regain my Lost Love! Countess, please. You‟re my only hope!”
“Hmm? Wot? Behin‟ tha‟ curtain over there..” said the Countess dreamily, gesturing
to a sheet of black material behind her.

“You‟ll fin‟ wot you is lookin‟ for over there. I‟ve foun‟ what I‟m lookin‟ for roight here
though..”
“Well, she certainly isn‟t what I expected..

Nevertheless, I hope she‟s right! Oh my Love, I‟m coming for you..”
“Good Sir? Care you to help me lift this veil and finally reunite me with my quarry? I
cannot wait to see my Love again!”

“Tra la la, still counting ceiling tiles I‟m afraid My Lady! These vampires are
fearsome indeed.”

“Aww, suit yourself. I think they‟re rather sweet!”

Grinning, she pulled back the curtain to reveal..
“ A big old box?

Er, Countessa? I hate to break it to you, but my Love wasn‟t a big old box.”
“Insoide the chest, lovie!”
“Oh right. That makes more sense.”

Kneeling down, the Lady stroked the latch of the chest.

“Do not fear my Love, for I am here now. And I swear from this day forward we
shall never be parted again, so long as we both shall live. And hopefully after too, if
these two are anything to go by. Oh my Love, how I have missed you..”

Without being able to wait another moment, the Lady threw open the lid.
“EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

At last, oh at long last!”

As her shrieks of joy filled the room, the chest fell away to reveal the object of all
the Lady‟s desire, whom she had been searching for, for so long.
“My Loves! At last you are back!

Wooohooooooo!

Oh, my little darlings..”
“I have missed you more than words can say my dears.. You are without a doubt
my own true Love!

Little Eddie, and baby Stuart! Aah, Journey – there you are! Playing in the reeds
with Dominic and Gethin as usual.. Rhys! Get away from that filter! You‟re scaring
dear little Oz.. Oh, and there he is. My favouritest of them all! SPIDEY-SPOO! Oh,
I‟ve missed you.

Mummy‟s never going to forget to feed you all ever again. No she isn‟t!”
“What the hell?!” shouted the Knight when he saw what the chest contained.

“FISH?! Fish.. We came all this way looking for some bloody fish? I braved life and
limb for some little teleosts, this is unbelievable..”
“Why?

Look „ow „appy she is, surely tha‟s wot you came „ere for ain‟t it? You Lady is
reuni‟ed wiv her lost Love, and it‟s all thanks to your bravery and good „eart. Surely
it‟s smiles all „round ain‟t it?”
“Yeah but.. I was under the impression we were looking for a person.

It‟s great that she‟s happy and all, but generally when someone talks about their
Love, they mean someone of the same species at least!

I.. Guess we did good, but still!”
“You seemingly still have a lot to learn about love, Knight.”

It was the Count who spoke. Although he had so far been generally happy to let his
wife do the talking to these strange guests, he felt he had something to say.

“The words Love and Romance mean many different things to many different
people. For me it means an eternity with the one woman I could ever truly love by
my side, for your friend here it seems to mean a tank full of fish with which is pass
an evening.

Have you ever thought what it really means to you?”
“Well I..” the Knight started.

“Of course I have! I want to help all the maidens in distress, and aid them in their
troubles and strife. Make their sorrow vanish and see their faces alight with smiles.
There are still many out there that I have yet to meet, and I will not stop until I have
done so!

That is surely a noble calling.”
“He still has a way to go.” smiled the Count, and turned to his wife.

“Yeah, but „ee „as a good „eart. I „ave no doubt that „ee will find „is way eventually.”

“Just so long as it doesn‟t mean turning into simpering saps like the two of you. No
wonder everyone‟s scared to come here, the sight of you two is just too.. Squicky!”
“Oh really?”

Quickly rasing a hand to his mouth, the Knight looked at the floor.
“I shouldn‟t have said that out loud, should I?”

“No. You probably shouldn‟ „ave. But wha‟s done is done!”

“Indeed it is. Thank you for your company Knight, but I think it‟s time you left us be
now.”
“Do come again, won‟t cha!” cried the Countess, as the Knight suddenly felt a very
strange sensation beneath his feet.

Without warning, the floor he was standing on gave way and he found himself
falling.

“Oh, I loike your „air!” she finished, just as he disappeared from view and down into
the pit below.
“Thank you Good Sir Knight..

For everything.”
----
“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH

I DON‟T LIKE HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLES!”
*THUD*

With a crash, the Knight landed on the floor on the Countess‟s underground
dungeon. After several seconds trying to work out whether he could still breathe or
not (he could), if he was still alive (he was), and just how much he was annoyed
with the Countess ( a lot), he finally started to drag himself to his feet.
“Urk.. Well I can‟t say that was my particular favourite part of this adventure. There
was no need to go and throw me in a pit! Well, that‟s nobility for you.”

He started to blink into the gloom.

“What is this place anyway?”

But before he had time to fully adjust..
“Oh my god it‟s a MAN! A real life MAN!”

“I want him, he first!”
“*scream!!!!!*”
“NO, he fell nearest to meeeee!”
“I‟m starved of manly affection!
“I WANT HIS SMEXY HAIR.”
The Good Knight smiled.

“So Ladies.

Anyone in need of any rescuing today?”
Halloweeeeeen!
Well, there you go!

I hope you enjoyed my little tale that had nothing to do with anything! Although I‟m
still incapable of meeting any deadline ever, this was a lot of fun to do and it feels
AWESOME to be writing my bunch of idiots again 

A lot of you know why I‟ve taken such a long break from my Legacy, and to those
who don‟t just take it that I wasn‟t in the right mind-frame to sit down and work on it,
as much as I wanted to. But working on this, and also my fluff of an OWBC has put
me back into the place that I want to be and I can now happily say with complete
confidence:

Normal Legacy services will begin again soon!

Before the end of the year anyway. But until then:
HAPPY
EVERYTHING!

Love Gin, and all the Tegenarias

The SoaL Legend

  • 1.
  • 2. A graveyard. At night. In the rain. I think you can see where this is going. But if not, allow me to spin a little tale out for you. For in this graveyard, alone, at night in the rain knelt a lone figure. She leant down to the freshly turned earth covering the grave which she so tenderly cared for, and stroked the ground in front of her.
  • 3. Her dressed billowed in the wind as her gentle sobs hung in the air, waiting for someone to hear them. But it was a graveyard. At night. In the rain. So what do ya think was going to happen?!
  • 4. “Gentle Lady.. You seem ill at ease on this lonely night, night of all nights.” “*sniff sob splutter* What? Oh goodness, I thought I was all alone! In this graveyard, at night, in the rain.” “Well you are longer, my Lady. Your cries have drawn me here.” “Forgive me sir, for you have startled me so! But I am most heavy of heart on this night of all nights.”
  • 5. “Aww, there there – it‟s alright. I‟m here now.” The newcomer pulled the maiden into a tight embrace and patted her on the back, anxious for her river of tears to cease. Oddly enough, they had suddenly been replaced with gasps.
  • 6. “Why SIR!” cried the maiden, shaking herself loose from the embrace. “Do you not think that rather forward for such a time, all alone in a graveyard at night in the rain?” “Forgive me my Lady, I merely wished to comfort you on this night, for I cannot bear to see a maid in the throes of such sadness. It is my duty as a Knight of the Kingdom to put right such wrongs.. Pray tell, what vexes you so, dear Lady?”
  • 7. “Aye, it is a most tragic tale Good Knight. For I am the Lady Ginevra, and my heart is heavy with much woe. For you see Sir, here lies my one true Love. Taken cruelly from me before our time was through, and into the kingdom of the Reaper and all things of the bad. And now I am left here alone, with a broken heart and only a grave to tend. I know what I must do now, but my soul cannot face the task alone. Who pray tell are you, Good Sir Knight?”
  • 8. “I, dear Lady, am Sir Vox-a-lot – Defender of Good, Righter of Wrongs, and Saviour of all maidens across the land. No tear shall they shed, no hug go un-hugged and no kiss un-kissed while I am near to protect them and all that they hold dear. And you, Fair Lady, appear in need of some assistance as your tale goes.”
  • 9. “Yes, it would be rightly so my Good Sir. For although my Love is gone, the village folk tell me there is a way to see him once more.” “There is? Go on, Sweet Lady.” “They say one must visit the Count and Countess in yonder castle and they may give aid, but I am sore afraid.” “Which castle?” “YONDER!””
  • 10.
  • 11. “Oh my, Fair Lady I heed your words – that indeed looks most fearful!” “Exactly. Like I said – sore afraid.” “And you must travel there to seek your True Love?” “Aye.”
  • 12. “Legend has it that the Count and Countess of the Castle can bring my love back to me.” “How, Fair Lady?” “I know not, but I must try. However.. They say that only the bravest of heart and truest of soul can find their way through the castle, for the Count and Countess do not give their help freely and challenge all those who seek it with the most wicked of wickedness. And for that reason, I dare not enter the gates.”
  • 13. The Knight fell to his knees beside the Lady, and looked honestly into her tearstained face. “My good Lady, if I may be so bold, allow me to accompany you on this most perilous of journeys. I have it not in my heart to leave one such as yourself on this night of all nights, in a graveyard at night in the rain when there is questing to be done! I am at your service, Fair Lady.” “Oh goodness!” the Maiden gasped. She had not been expecting such kindness, on this night of all nights. “Please Madam, it would make my heart sore to see you suffer.”
  • 14. “For your Love, you must allow me to accompany you this eve.” The Lady turned to look at the tombstone in front of her, and the felt the weight of her heart upon her. Looking out past the forest towards where her fate lay, she sighed. For my love.. She though. “Good Sir Knight, I accept your offer!”
  • 16. “Well that took longer than expected. It‟s nearly midnight! Apologies fair maiden, if only I hadn‟t lost my horse in that tavern game..” “It matters not, for at least the rain has ceased. My goodness, this castle looks even more foreboding up close, although.. I must say, it is not the cleanest place in the world.”
  • 17. “And what have you against my housekeeping skills, madam?” spoke a bedraggled stranger, leaning up against the courtyard wall. “If it‟s good enough for me, it damn well should be good enough for you. Now who are you, and what do you want? I don‟t enjoy people loitering in my yard, I deserve to enjoy my vino in peace.”
  • 18. “Good Sir, my name is Sir Vox-a-lot and this is the Lady Ginevera. We seek an audience with the Count and Countess of this Castle. And know might you be?” “Do you now? Well. I am the Gatekeeper.” “You have a name, Sir?” “Not that I recall. Just the Gatekeeper, plain and simple. And as the name implies, as far as I‟m concerned you‟re going nowhere „Sir‟”
  • 19. “In fact I- oow..” The Gatekeeper winced as he stood, cutting his words off mid- sentence.” “Are you in pain, Mr. Gatekeeper?” asked the Lady. “S‟alright.” “Yes, may we assist you in any way?” added the Knight, “we can offer nothing but our help.”
  • 20. “No one can help me..” muttered the man. “But Sir, no one is beyond help.” said the maid nervously, wringing her hands as she began to fret for the stranger. “Please.” “No. My job is to guard these gates, not to prattle the night away with strangers. I have a duty to uphold.” He turned and walked back towards his hut, but was not let be by his guests.
  • 21. “But Sir-” “Why do you seek entrance here anyway?” snapped the peasant, turning around the face the maiden with a snarl. “It is a foul place, full of those things of which I dare not speak. You do not belong here, only those such as myself should be punished in such a way.” The Lady gulped as she spotted something behind the Gatekeeper. “Is that.. Is that..” She began nervously. “Yes, it is a grave.” he replied impatiently, “of my predecessor as it happens. We Gatekeepers are chosen for our special.. Skills as it were, and one day his luck ran out. The Countess said he deserved it, and I deserve the same fate. Why would you want to meet such a woman?”
  • 22. “Please. I am seeking my True Love, to be united with him once more. I hear tell that the Count can help me. And Sir Vox-a-lot is willingly accompaning me, for I do not wish to enter such a place alone.” “A wise view to take, m‟lady. And where is your love?” “Dead.”
  • 23. “And so shall you be if you do not heed me! Leave this place, and give up your search maid. No joy awaits you here, I can promise you that!” “You cannot know that.” At this, the Gatekeeper became visibly furious. “‟I cannot know‟ Of course I know! This castle breeds misery and suffering, and that is why I am a part of it. No one leaves these walls alive – no one! Including me, including you. Now leave, if you know what‟s good for you. And by my watch you need to do so soon.” “But-”
  • 24. Seeing the distraught look upon the Lady‟s face, the Good Knight quickly stepped in. “I think what the lady means Gatekeeper, is that although we take your warning to good heart, we kindly ask for your assistance in gaining entrance to this castle, evil as it may be. Or possibly Evil, or maybe even eeevil – one never knows. But it is imperative that we journey inside with your blessing.”
  • 25. “For Sir – have you never been in love?” As the Knight finished, the Gatekeeper fell silent. Sighing, he closed his eyes and turned from the pair.
  • 26. “Once. In a life I had all but forgotten.” A small smile spread across his face. “Alright, I will help you. For I can understand your wish you cling to love, Lady. Were we all but so lucky..” he sighed, and opened the door to a small room off the courtyard.
  • 27. “Just do not tell the Countess it was I who helped you, for I would rather avoid such a fate at present.” “Sir?” “My job is to keep people out, not let them in when they look at me with sad eyes and speak of hearts full of love. I hope you find him, dear Lady. For your own sake.”
  • 28. “And most importantly, do not-..” As the Gatekeeper reached out for the rusty iron key, his breath caught in his throat and he suddenly came to a stop. Fighting, he lifted the key from it‟s hook and clutched it tight in his fist. It was too late.
  • 29. Pawing at his throat, struggling to find some air, he turned from the room to face the two and fought to form words. “Run! You must run!” he choked. “Go – go now!”
  • 30. “Oh my goodness!” gasped the maiden, and drew back in fright. “Sir, whatever is the matter? You look most unwell, and this has come on all of a sudden. Have you perhaps the plague?” offered the Knight,
  • 31. “No you fools. Run, you must run! There is but little time left for you both.”
  • 32. “Mr Gatekeeper, I shall not run. I have come here to seek my Love, and I am not leaving without! So instead, let me tend to you. For somehow I feel most responsible for your plight, and wish to ease your suffering. Shall I fetch you some camomile water, of some sort? For that is sure to ease the pain.”
  • 33. “Just.. Take these! If you must enter the castle, than do so with great haste. You must be gone from this place, I did warn you!” The Gatekeeper threw the keys to the floor in front of the Knight, who bent to pick them up. As he did so, the Gatekeeper began to writhe in pain.
  • 34. A peculiar light emanated from his body, and the Gatekeeper was able to speak one final stern warning to the travellers. “Get.. Inside. ... .... .. It‟s your only chance! GO.”
  • 35. “Oh Sir Vox-a-lot, he looks in so much pain. We simple must do something to alleviate his suffering!” But the Good Knight did not share the Lady‟s worried looks of compassion towards the man, and instead an expression of terror spread over his face as the gravity of the situation dawned on him. “Fair Lady, I do believe we should heed his words and make for the inner walls of this castle. At once!” “But-” The Lady had no time to argue, as the Knight grabbed her by the arm and rather unceremoniously pulled her towards the door.
  • 37. AOWOOOOOOOOOOH” The transformation complete, a piercing howl spread out across the castle grounds.
  • 38. “Oh my! He‟s a.. He‟s a.. Sir Vox-a-lot, he‟s a..” “I know!” “But goodness, we must get inside the castle at once!” “I KNOW.” “I did not come all this way just to die at the hands of a beast, use the key good Sir!” “I AM.”
  • 39. “Ah, but my claws would make such light work of that lock. And for that matter, your flesh strangers.” The wolf flexed his fingers at the thought, and glanced towards the maid.
  • 40. “HURRY UP!” she shrieked. “Good Lady, I BLOODY WELL AM.” “..I‟m going to die aren‟t I?”
  • 41. “Quite probably.” A cruel smile spread across the wolf‟s face as we began advancing towards the shaking maiden and fumbling Knight. “In fact, I would say most definitely. There is no escape from here, and you most certainly will not get that door open in time. My counterpart must have given you the wrong key. Oh what a shame. So now I-”
  • 43. To their great relief the great door swung open, and feeling the wolf‟s breathe on their necks, the partners made a break for it. “Hurry my lady, make haste!” “Oh, don‟t you worry about that Sir..” As soon as they were clear, the Knight slammed the door shut with all his might.
  • 44. The blot drawn, he lent against the great slab and attempted to catch his breath. “A werewolf.. My, I was not expecting to be greeted with such a creature upon this quest. My Lady, are you alright? Did the beast harm you? “No, but I am even more afraid than before we came to this place. I dread the think what would have happened if I had ventured here alone!” “Well Fair Lady,” gasped the Knight, “it is just as well I would never permit such a thing.”
  • 45. As they slowly calmed, the Knight and Lady looked started to take in their surroundings of the brightly lit inner courtyard. But it seems that they did not please the Lady. “Oh bother!”
  • 46. “This is going to be one of those places filled with endless doors, is it not?” “I believe so My Lady, and I can but imagine what will behind each one. But surely it cannot be worse than what we have just faced?” “Oh don‟t say that!” “Sorry. But waiting here will not do us much good. Come maiden.” said the Knight bravely, and pushed open the door in front of them. The sight they met was a strange one indeed.
  • 48. “Um.. Greetings small children! What a lovely, erm, dungeon it is you have here. Would you mind letting us through that door over there? We have grown-up business to attend to you see.”
  • 49. “It is not a dungeon, it is our sanctuary. And no, you shall not pass.” “Oh.” “Who be you, strange travellers?”
  • 50. “I am the Lady Ginevera, and I seek my true love within these walls.” “And I am Sir Vox-a-lot, defender of all maidens of this world. Who might you be, small ones? If you are but trapped here I will gladly carry you to safety.” “SILENCE! Cease your twittering.”
  • 51. “We see the future.”
  • 52. “We know the future.”
  • 53. “We ARE the future. And to gain passage through our sanctuary, you must answer us these questions three.”
  • 54. “Good Sir Knight, how is your brain?” whispered the Lady. “Er, a bit hand tilty if I‟m honest.” “Yes, me as well..” “QUESTION THE FIRST.” “Wait, we‟re not ready!”
  • 55. “They say we are bringers Of gifts the most great Yet some still remain Who we choose to hate We loath you begonias And your pink flamingos Your fountains of fortune An absolute no Call us in Autumn We will laugh in your face For our ranks are closed And your family disgraced. Who are we?”
  • 56. “AAAAAARGH!” “My Lady!” cried the panicked Knight, as the maid began to stomp her feet and wave her arms in the air in a most disturbing manner. “What ails you? Have you a demon?!” “No, it‟s them! It‟s THEEEEEEM!” “Who do you speak of, Fair Lady?”
  • 57. “The Garden Club!” she cried, “The blinkin‟ GARDEN CLUB.” “Be calm maid, be calm!” But the Knight could not restrain her. “I hate them! Loathe them and all their little Twit Faces! Mock me, all they ever do is choose to mock me, and palm me off with excuses. I don‟t trust them one little bit, no indeed I do not!” “Breathe dear Lady, breathe!”
  • 58. Taking several deep breathes, the maid finally lowered her arms. “The Garden Club.” she sighed. “It is the Garden Club of which you speak. The scum of the village.”
  • 59. “Oh no, they are correct! This a disaster, what are we going to do now? Oh no, oh no..” “Hush sister. It is not a-over.” The child seated on the crate spoke calmly, dismissing her sister‟s worries with her eyes fixed upon the travellers.
  • 60. “Although..” she said as she stood. “It was a-most unfair of you to a-get that so quickly.” “Apologies young maiden, but we seek-” “No matter. We are not a-finished yet. Sister, get them.”
  • 61. “Gladly! My question for you is short and sweet, When do giraffes have but eight feet?”
  • 62. “What?! I came to a dingey castle and I‟m being asked about giraffes?” “Hush Lady, I‟m trying to think.. Hm. They have big necks, eight feet of neck? No no, that‟s can‟t be right.. When they‟ve had some odd surgery.. Erm.. Come on maiden, help!” “Well I don‟t know! When there‟s a nuclear reactor involved?”
  • 63. “Haha, I‟ve got you now! You‟re waaaay off, you‟re never going to get past us! Isn‟t that right brother and sister? “ “A-yes indeed sister of ours, yes indeed.”
  • 64. “Hang on.” said the Knight suddenly. “I suppose there could be eight legs if there are two of them?” “Well that was rather anti-climatic.”
  • 65. “Oh. Yes. That‟s right.” The child began to wring her hands. “Siste-er.. They got it right! What are we going to do now? Oh dear oh dear..”
  • 66. “Right! I have a-had enough of you two thinking you are so a-clever!” growled the child. “Here is one you cannot possibly a-get! Which of us shall be the next heir of the Tegenaria Legacy?”
  • 67. “Er, Good Sir Knight? What‟s a Legacy?” “I do not know. And what is this „Tegenaria‟ of which they speak? Again I know not, but I cannot shake this feeling that I‟m supposed to know.” “As do I! Isn‟t that strange? But I feel that the answer to this question is a decision that I should be making.” “And I feel it is one that I should be choosing. Hm..”
  • 68. “Well Sir, if I think I should be making it, and you think you should be making it – shall we make it together?” “My Lady, what a splendid idea! Neither of us knows what it means anyway so two guesses are better than one. On the count of three, we shall point to whichever child we feel like.” “Excellent idea! Okay, one.. Two..
  • 70. “Fair Lady, I do believe that we both pointed to the same child!” “Yes, clearly it was a decision to be made together. And if we both agree, then we must certainly be correct!”
  • 71. “Oh crab-crumbs..” sighed the question giver. “Once again they a-have somehow a-given the correct solution. How un-a-fair. You may a-pass.”
  • 72. “Wait.” The second-question giver began to walk slowly towards the Knight, ignoring confused and furious gazes from her siblings, still holding fort in front of the door. She was apparently not finished yet.
  • 73. “I have something to tell you.” Intrigued, the Knight bent down to the small maid who leant close to his ear.
  • 74. “Don‟t worry.” she whispered. “You‟re doing the right thing. Just follow your heart and everything will turn out alright in the end. And don‟t worry, I will be fine. I am stronger than you all think.”
  • 75. “Aww, well aren‟t you sweet!” smiled the Knight, ruffling the child‟s hair. “I have no idea what you‟re on about, but thank you very much! You have a nice day too.” The girl sighed and shook her head, as the Knight gave her another cuddle.
  • 76. “...Can we go yet?”
  • 77. “Yes, yes you may. If you are a-sure you want to that is „Lady‟. For there is a- reason why we a–stay in our sanctuary and do not a-venture beyond. This castle still holds much for you to meet.” Choosing to ignore the children, the Lady and Good Knight opened the door behind the small ones, and continued deep into the castle walls.
  • 78. “So where are we now?” “To be honest I have no idea.. But my, isn’t it gloomy in here?”
  • 79. “Indeed so, I’m not really sure where we are at all. But at least I can’t see any more small and angry maids!” “Why yes Sir, that is most fortuative. But.. Can you hear something?”
  • 80. “Don‟t fuss so maiden, I‟m sure it is nothing. And from what I can see this chamber appears to be empty.” “I just do not like to trust to such things! We‟ve already had more than enough surprises for one night, and I would hate to find but another. Now, if this room if empty as you so claim, then-” Sadly for the Lady, a cough broke her stream.
  • 81. “Oh deary me Good Sir Vox-a-lot, whatever now?” “I am unsure. Who be you, across the room?”
  • 82. “Welcome friends, to my home. My own little kingdom as it were, for you see friends – I am the King of the Living Dead.”
  • 83. “And you have wandered into my domain, I cannot be letting you go without joining my legion, or just watching you plain die. Either is fine for me, but I must say Lady – you would make a fine pet indeed.. It would be such a shame to just let you leave. The other? ..Meh.”
  • 84. “Meh? But no one has ever „meh‟ed me before!” said the rather appalled Knight. “Oh hush Sir, and you, King thingy, you‟re all the way over there! Stuck in a little pen on your funny throne! What could you possibly do to us? We are quite safe from you I daresay. Besides, you don‟t look very dead so we have no reason to fear you.
  • 85. “Ah, a partial truth. It is true I choose to remain on my throne to keep my distance from my subjects for obvious reasons. For have you not realised dear friends? We are not alone in this chamber. Take a look down there.”
  • 86. The Good Knight peered over the balcony running all around the chamber and saw before him a large pit, filled with barely-living creatures, dragging their bodies and tails around the floor letting out the most bizarre of cries.
  • 87. It was then to his horror that he saw the only exit from the chamber was on the far side of the pit. The only way for him to save the Lady, was to go through the creatures. And this thought did not cheer him one bit. The stench for a start was.. Not exactly pleasant.
  • 88. “Ah ha, so you see now dear friends? My pets, the Zombie Shrews stand between you and passage. The only way through is to slay the wretched creatures, and seeing as they amass you in numbers and are also undead – I fear this may be a bit of an issue for you. But no matter for me, for my pets have extremely sharp teeth as I‟m sure you will find out for yourselves, dear friends, as they take the flesh from your bones. And further more-”
  • 89. “Can I have a slice of cockroach cake instead pleeeeeeease?” “What? YOU?! QUIET!” “Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease?” “Get away from my throne foul creature, you are not worthy. AWAY I say!”
  • 90. “But we‟re all ever so hungry. It‟s not very nice down here at all, no no it isn‟t. Just a little starfish souffle? It would make all the difference in the world. “
  • 91. “Ooooh, yes please Sire!” “I‟m so hungry!” “Can I have some more?” “Just some slug sandwiches, it‟s all we ask!” The squeaks and mews increased as more Shrews heard the words of food, and began to cluster at their master‟s feet with mournful looks upon their faces.
  • 92. “No no NO! Be gone vile things, I bloody hate the lot of you and you don‟t half SMELL. You are nowhere even near worthy to be at my feet, SHOO!”
  • 93. But the gaggle became ever larger, and it didn‟t take long for the entire chamber to filled with incessant Shrew chatter. “Turtle truffles!” “Snail salad!” “Frog fritters!” “Bluebottle-berry muffins!” Roast roach!” “MMMM YES! ROAST ROACH PLEEEEEEEEEASE!”
  • 94. “Okay, while they‟re all busy we need a plan my Lady.” “Sneak behind them now?!” “I fear the King will alert the creatures, dear maiden, and we shall not make it through safely. No, what I feel we should do is take a look around while we have the chance, and see if there is anything that can help us come up with a plan.”
  • 95. Although the Lady was not optimistic, it took but seconds for her to spot something of interest. She stood at the stairs leading downwards towards the Zombie Shrews and cried with joy. “Quick Good Sir, quick! Down there in the corner of the pit, look Sir, look!”
  • 96. Shining in the gloom was a bright sword, magnificent in its glory and a sure means of safe passage across the pit. It‟s strong blade was the answer to their problem! .. If only it wasn‟t stuck in a big old rock.
  • 97. “Ha HA! Excellent work maiden, I am an expert in the art of sword-craft and beast- slaying! We shall be out of here in no time, those foul creatures do not stand a chance against Sir Vox-a-lot!” “If you say so..” “I do indeed!” cried the Knight as he ran down the stairs towards the blade. “All I need you to do my Lady, is to create a distraction while I remove it from its holdings.”
  • 98. Not knowing quite what else to do, the Lady gingerly followed the Knight down the staircase and into the pit below. The Zombie Shrews were still hard at work badgering their King for some food, but she was still not best pleased at the situation. “A distraction? Are you sure? What am I supposed to do!”
  • 99. “Anything you want!” the Knight replied without looking round. “Hm.. Now where to begin with this.. Surely this can‟t be too hard.”
  • 100. “Oh now, that‟s helpful.” the Lady sighed, and went back to looking around. Until something caught her eye. “I wonder..”
  • 102. “At first I was afraid I was petrified Kept thinking I could never live without you by my side”
  • 103. “But then I spent so many nights” “MUUURGH?!?”
  • 104. “Thinking how you did me wrong And I grew strong”
  • 105. “ AndI learnt how to get along!”
  • 106. “And so you're back! From outer space!”
  • 107. “I just walked in to find you here with that sad look upon your face”
  • 108. “I should have changed that stupid lock I should have made you leave your key”
  • 109. “If I had known for just one second you'd be back to bother me!”
  • 110. “Go on now GO! Walk out the door! Just turn around now 'cause you're not welcome anymore”
  • 111. “Weren't you the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye?”
  • 112. “You think I'd crumble? You think I'd lay down and die?”
  • 113. “Oh no, not I! I will survive! Oh, as long as I know how to love I know I will stay alive”
  • 114. “I've got all my life to live I've got all my love to give”
  • 115. “And I'll survive.. I will survive..”
  • 119. “Er.. What are they doing?”
  • 120. “Well Good Sir Knight, I believe that they don‟t particularly want to be slain. And I can‟t say I blame them, to be honest I‟m actually rather fond of the odd little things I must say. They‟re sort of.. Cute. And fun. On second thoughts, shall we not slay them?”
  • 121. Upon hearing these words all the Zombie Shrews promptly leapt up and gathered around the Lady. “Oh Shrew! Thank you kind Shrewette, we really didn‟t want to be slain. We much prefer to sing and dance and frolic, being properly dead would be so.. Un-shrew. May we give you our utmost thanks?” “Er.. You‟re welcome?”
  • 122. *nuzzle nuzzle nuzzle* “Hehe, that tickles.. Aww, you‟re so fluffy!”
  • 123. “Me! “Me now!” “I want a go!” “Me!” “I want to show my affection!” “SHREW!” “Fear now little ones, there‟s no need to push! Or crowd. Oow, or be quite so rough..”
  • 124. “OOW! Stoppit. HELP! I think I‟m being nuzzled to death by Zombie Shrews!”
  • 125. “Fear not my Lady! Sir Vox-a-lot TO THE RESCUE!”
  • 126. “Back! Back you strange beasts! Bother this lady to more!” “MuuurghSQUEAK!!” “Be careful – Don‟t hurt them! Don‟t wave your sword around so much, you‟re scaring them.” “Sorry, sorry.. But look, they‟re retreating! Now‟s our chance fair maiden.”
  • 127. “I‟m really beginning to loathe these doors..”
  • 128. “Oh Shrew.. The nice lady left. Never mind, at least you‟ve still got us haven‟t you Sire?”
  • 129. The King of the Living dead sighed. “Unfortunately.” ----
  • 130. “You say „Look an empty room!‟ again, you know I‟m going to kill you right?” “I know. But hey, maybe this time it is that easy My Lady!”
  • 131. “Good Sir, I value your companionship greatly on this quest, but has experience not taught you anything? This Castle does not appear to be a simple place.” “Ah, but now I have this Big Shiny Sword™ nothing can stand between us and our goal!” “Hmm. Well, if you‟re sure – I trust you Good Knight. But just to be on the safest of sides, let‟s just walk straight to the door without touching anything, okay?” Fine, fine.”
  • 132. The pair nearly managed such a deed, but all the strange objects surrounding them couldn‟t help but grab the Knight‟s attention. “Fair Maiden, look at this. This text is written in such strange runic markings..”
  • 133. “It‟s ever so odd, I must say! What kind of madman would read such a thing?”
  • 134. “AAAAWUUUGGGH!!” Apparently the dusty book did not approve of being insulted in such a manner. “..I did say not to touch anything. No one ever listens to the Lady!”
  • 135. “But I must say, there are some most strange things here.. What make you of them, Good Sir Knight?” “I preferred the Zombie Shrews.” he sighed, nursing his injured hand and casting suspicious glances towards the now still book.
  • 136. “And such pungent odours! Quite intoxicating.. Smells of fish almost!” “Er, is that a good thing?” “Um, no.”
  • 137. “Okay Good Sir, this place does not appear to exactly sensical.” “Agreed Dear Lady, I couldn‟t want a hand such as delicate and sweet as yours to be bitten by such an accursed objects.” “Aww, aren‟t you sweet. But yes Sir Knight, I think it best we hasten out the door while the moment strikes us.”
  • 138. “Besides, there doesn’t appear to be anyone in this strange place.”
  • 139. “So I think we- Oh my fishness!” “Bwuuuuuarck !” “Sir Vox-aLot, are you feeling quite well?”
  • 140. “Bwuuuarck? Bwuuarck buwaaarck!!” “Oh my.. Ehehehe, why Sir! That is most amusing, but I really think we should be going.” “Bwuarck.”
  • 141. “Yes what a wonderful joke! But please cease this Good Sir, it is becoming rather unnerving..”
  • 142. “Aaargh! Eek! Bees! It feels like there are lots of little tiny bees buzzing all around my head!” “BWUUUUUUARCK!” “Stoppit at once I say, I‟m a Lady! A Lady who‟s covered in beeeeees..”
  • 143. “Hehehehe..” “BWAHAHAHAHA! That is awesome. Good one „Rels.” “Thanks! But teeheehee.. Just look at that doofus dancing around like a bird!”
  • 144. “It can‟t be said that we never have any fun „Rels.” “Totally not ES, I love it. But I gotta say, watching these two poke their dorky faces into everything was brilliant.” “Ah, the life we lead..”
  • 145. “So, shall we go and introduce ourselves then?” “To our latest victims you mean? Yes, I don‟t see why not.” With a final grin at each other, the two witches descended down staircases either side of their loft perch and turned to face the two travellers.
  • 146. “Greetings my little lost lambses! My name is Fairella, and I am the Good Witch of this wonderful castle, and personal assistant to the Countess herself. But.. Well. If I‟m perfectly honest, it‟s far more fun working with my buddy here than casting spells of hope and light across the land. Er, to be honest. I think I might be in the wrong line of work. But then again, my outfit is just so cute! And I‟d hate to lose it. There was this one time I went down to the tavern in the village, and this cutest little tousled hair slip of a boy came up to me, and his eyes just nearly fell out of his head! And then we-”
  • 147. “No one cares you sparkly moron! I‟m – Well, if you don‟t know who I am you‟ve been living under some kind of rock for the last few millenia. Which by the looks of you two, you have. Oh what the heck, I am Evil Susan! And you are my new play things.”
  • 148. “Whoa whoa whoa! Hang on ES, we can‟t be poking them with sticks right away.” “..Why? I don‟t see any other option available to us.” “I dunno! We could.. Get to know them or something.” “But whatever for?”
  • 149. “I want to poke the one with dodgy hair‟s eyes out with my wand.” “Noooo! I like his eyes, they look like mine! And mine are all pretty. This one guy once said-” “That you were about as interesting as glitter on the floor. Look, can I just have a little hex on the berk in the dress? Something about her just stirs up a rather vicious hate within me.” “Who doesn‟t?!” “Ah, so true „Rels. So true. Now as I was saying!”
  • 150. “But they could be some new friends for us! Maybe we could not shred them into little teeny tiny pieces for a change? Just think about it, pleeeeease?” “Alright, I‟m thinking.. I‟m thinking..”
  • 151. “Alright, thinking time up – NO, you twat!” “Oh but ES!” “..They seem rather caught up in each other don‟t they?” observed the Lady as the two witches bickered. “It appears so.” agreed the Knight.
  • 152. “Look, you‟re wrong now like you always have been. I‟m Evil Susan! And my word is law!” “No it isn‟t! You answer to the Countess just like everyone else does. You wouldn‟t dare cross her.” “Yes I bloody well would! I‟ve had enough of you – let‟s settle this the proper way.” And with that the Evil Witch promptly pulled out her wand and strode to the other side of the room, while the other twirled into an opposing position.
  • 153. As the cackles and spells flew around the hall, the Knight and Lady stood to face each other. “So..” he started. “They seem pretty happy don‟t they? I‟m sure they wouldn‟t mind if we just..”
  • 154. “Fluff-brained hussy!” “Puke-green vomit monster!” “Tramp in a tutu!” “AVADA KEDAVRA” “..Don‟t be silly now.”
  • 155. “Whatever. Come on ES, you‟ve got to back down sometime! You know I always win these things.” “WIN!? The only thing you could win „Rels is a one-way ticket to pains-ville. Actually you know what? I‟m going to give you that for free!” “As if. Take THIS!”
  • 156. “Ow, that actually hurt you moron! You are going to wish you hadn’t done that to Evil Susan..” “Oooh, I’m so scared!” “You damn well should be”
  • 157. “Heehe! Ooow! Teehee... Argh, stop it ES! It tickles. Teehee! Okay okay, you win.” said the blue Witch, throwing her wand up in the air. “We won‟t try and befriend the newbies today.”
  • 158. “MUAHAHA! Oh course we‟re not, I always win. I‟m Evil Susan! Now, where are those lumps of fresh meat..”
  • 159. “MUAHAHAHA - oh.” “This is all your fault Evil Susan!” “My fault? If it wasn‟t for you and your useless wittering they never would have gotten away!” “If you‟d only listened to me in the first place. It‟s your fault madam, and we‟re going to settle this NOW. Duel?” “You‟re on.” ----
  • 160. “Oh come on!” shouted a rather exasperated maiden. “How the melon can we not be there yet?!” “Calm my Lady, I‟m am sure this must be the last room.”
  • 161. “Indeed it is wanderer. I am the last defence before the Countess herself.”
  • 162. “A duty I uphold most honourably. No one has ever bested me. And no one ever shall. My wisdom far exceeds all who‟s paths lead them here.”
  • 163. “Well that‟s nice. But hi-i, we‟re over here Mr. Last Defence!” “Yes, turn and face us you blaggard! I‟ve got a Big Shiny Sword™ and I will use it to protect this beautiful Lady from all terrors that this castle can throw at us. For I am Sir Vox-a-lot, and there is no danger I won‟t face to save a maiden in need! Now show yourself like a man.”
  • 164. “If you insist. And what a rousing little speech that was! I‟m quite moved. Can you not see the tear forming in my eye? Somehow I‟ll keep them back. Well Sir Vox-a-lot, I am the great alchemist Sidaro – and may I welcome you to my „humble‟ laboratory.”
  • 165. The Knight could not help but keep a smirk from spreading across his face. “Mhehe.. Your hair! HaHA, it‟s the most ridiculous thing I‟ve ever seen! No wonder you couldn‟t face us as a man – you look like a little girl! Ehehehe.. Who hasn‟t washed for three months! Man, I‟d hide away in a lab if I looked like you with that hair.”
  • 166. “My hair? You‟re mocking my hair? Well what‟s this supposed to be!? It‟s ridiculous!” laughed the alchemist, as he started tugging at bits of the Knight‟s hair. “Oow, stoppit! You‟ll un-smexify i-it..” “Boys..” sighed the maiden, shaking her head as she looked on.
  • 167. “My apologies.” said Sidaro, drawing away. “I did not realise that we were in the prescence of a lady. Where are my manners – may I offer you both a drink?” “How kind! It‟s about time someone considered the considerable thirst this adventure has brought upon me.” smiled the maiden. “Huh?! Oh.. Whatever. Fine.” growled the Knight, scowling at the robed man. “Very well.”
  • 168. “IVANO! OH, IVANO! WE HAVE SOME GUESTS IN NEED OF REFRESHMENT. COME HERE, IVANO!”
  • 169. Behind the travellers a bookcase suddenly swung into the wall, and a small green child appeared with a tray of glasses. “I‟m coming, I‟m coming. Now don‟t shout! Or I bite you.”
  • 170. “Now Ivano, I know that you would never bite me.” “No Master.. I bite them though, yes?” “Not at the moment Ivano. For now just offering our guests a glass with suffice.” “Yes Master.”
  • 171. Turning to the guests he smiled and said; “Drink this or I BITE YOU.” Hastily both the Knight and Lady grabbed a goblet.
  • 172. “You‟re not joining us then?” asked the Knight, upon seeing their host‟s hands were empty. “Why no „Sir‟, I find that such frivolities cloud my head for my work. You see, I actually toil for a living by supplying the Count and Countess with all the potions and brew they require. I hold down a steady job by nature of my virtues.” The alchemist looked the Knight up and down. “Unlike some people.” he added. “Countless maidens have found my services quite incomparable, thank you very much.” “I‟ll bet.. Now good „Sir‟, why don‟t you and your friend finish your drinks?”
  • 173. “I must say Good Knight, this wine is ever so refreshing!” said the Lady as her companion rejoined her. “Yes, I suppose it is.” he replied grudgingly. “Why, I find myself to have already finished my glass!” To show willing, the Knight also gulped down the rest of the concoction.
  • 174. “HaHA, yes!” “We did it Ivano!” As the Knight drained his glass, the alchemist and child began to celebrate.
  • 175. Dropping their glasses, the two travellers looked in fear at their jubilations. “Oh my! I don‟t think I like the tone of your voices!” squealed the Lady. “I am sore afraid again!” “..We just did something incredibly stupid, didn‟t we?” sighed the Knight. The shocks was so great that he was even forced to drop his Big Shiny Sword™ .
  • 176. “I‟ll say! You both just drunk our special poison! HAHA, gonna kill you now.”
  • 177. “POSION?!” cried the Knight, and stormed up to the alchemist. “What kind of macbre trick is this? You foul beast of a man!” “No one ever wants to admit they‟re just stupid..” sighed Ivano.
  • 178. “If you‟d let me explain..” growled Sidaro, “for just one moment! There‟s no need to go leaping all over the place without thinking playing the hero.” “Well there‟s no need to randomly poison strangers!” “You deserve it with your big stupid sword.” “Jealous.” “Show off!”
  • 179. “HEY! I don‟t know what the heck is the matter with you two, but if there‟s something you need to explain Mr. Robes then you‟d darn well better do it quickly! My true love is at stake here. Not to mention ME.”
  • 180. “Fine. Yes, you have both been poisoned. But I have also created an antidote for those with a mind sharp enough to earn it. Only the very best are worthy of an audience with the Countess after all.”
  • 181. “You must choose between these five vials. One contains the antidote and the other four will merely speed up the poison's effect.”
  • 182. “That‟s it? We don‟t get a clue or anything?!” “No. Those of great intellect need no clues.” “Grrragh.”
  • 183. “My Lady, I cannot see any way out of this one.” “No, nor I! For how are we to choose?” “I know not. I fear we can but guess” “But that‟s suicide!”
  • 184. “Then Fair Lady – allow me to take this risk on your behalf. I shall choose a vial, and allow it‟s effects to take me.” “But that‟s far too dangerous! I cannot let you.” “Please my Lady. If I am wrong, then at least you know one of the incorrect vials, and it gives you a chance to escape this clearly deranged man.” “Oh Sir.. I cannot ask you to do that for me.”
  • 185. “But of course you can! I am Sir Vox-a-lot! It‟s what I do.” “Only if you are sure.” “Of course my dear, I promised to return you to your true love and I shall do so before the night is out. By any means necessary – as is a Good Knight‟s duty.”
  • 186. The Knight strode strongly towards the table, merely glancing at the alchemist‟s furious face. “It doesn‟t matter what you do. You‟re going to die!” chuckled Ivano. “We‟ll see about that..” said the Knight thoughtfully, as he surveyed the flasks in front of him.
  • 187. After a few minutes thought the Knight decided that despite his best intentions, he really had no clue which vial contained the antidote. But believing in his promise, he grabbed the first one in front of him and brought it to his lips.
  • 188. “Here‟s to you, Sidaro.” “Mock me not, you are unworthy to touch any of these vials! Let alone see the Countess, it‟s a right that should be mine alone!” “Well it‟s a bit too late for that now.” said the Knight, and took a gulp of the green liquid.
  • 190. “Hey, I feel awesome! Huh, whaddya know.. That was the right potion after all! My Lady, make haste!”
  • 191. “So, I guess I chose correctly then. My mind is up to scratch after all then, eh Sidaro?” “So it would seem..” the alchemist grumbled quietly. “But no one ever picks the green one!” cried Ivano, “They all take one took at me and stay as far away from it as possible!” “Ah, but a Knight can overcome all adversities! Even.. Small green children.” “Oh, do shut up.”
  • 192. “Here you go, fair Maiden.” smiled the Knight, passing her the potion. “Oh Brave Sir! However did you know which one was correct?” “My Lady, the flask was the same colour as your beautiful dress – there was no doubt it could only contain something good inside.” “Aww, thanks!” she grinned, and downed the rest of the potion. “You make me sick..” snarled Sidaro.
  • 193. “Wow, that thing certainly packs a punch! You truly are a worthy companion Good Sir Knight, I am most glad of your company on this night of all nights. Where would I be without you?” “Crying in a graveyard while skunks nibbled at your toes?” “Most likely.”
  • 194. “And you.. Well, actually – that was an awesome potion there! I fell better than I have done for years. Since before I lost my love.. You must be a very talented alchemist, Sir.” “Why thank you Maid! And yes, indeed I happen to be just so. I am terribly sorry that you too had to be caught up in this affair – I never meant to hurt you. Just you should choose your travel companions more wisely next time. Please forgive me, and I wish you luck in your adventure.” “What the heck are you doing..” wondered Ivano.
  • 195. “Aww, of course I forgive you! And for some reason, being in a laboratory makes me feel quite safe and at home. Although, it is most different from my normal tower residence! Ground floor of course. But thank you, for not letting me die.” “Maid, think nothing of it.”
  • 196. “Who said you could embrace her so? How very un-chivalrous of you! And you didn‟t save her, I did! It was YOU who poisoned her in the first place! You and your obnoxious servant.” “So you have something against green children now, do you?” “No! As it happens I am incredibly fond of green children, just not those who try and bite me!” “Oh dear, not again..” sighed the Lady.
  • 197. “Well I didn‟t want to kill her, she seems more than worthy for an audience with the Count and Countess! It was you that I wanted to dispose of. Weed out the inferior, that‟s my job – and you‟re the very image of inferiority!” “Ow, don‟t poke so hard. I think you need to get out of this dungeon a bit more! The fumes are clearly going to your head! In fact-” But before the Knight could get any crosser, the Lady grabbed his arm and dragged him towards the door and away from the bickering.
  • 198. “This isn‟t over yet!” he snapped as the Lady strode out the door. “Oh yes it is. Run along now „Sir‟, I believe you have some woman to chase after. Enjoy your visit to the Countess, won‟t you?” With a final stare, the Knight slammed the door behind him and followed the Lady down the dark passageway.
  • 199. A little way further down, the Lady turned around the confront the Knight. “What was that all about then? It was ridiculous! I‟ve never seen such behaviour from grown men.” The Knight sighed. The Lady was right.
  • 200. “My apologies fair maiden, you are quite correct – it is never appropriate to behave in such a manner.” “Glad you agree.” “But there was something about that sorcerer, the way he judged me so! It riled me more than I have ever known. I felt about five years old! And oh dang it – he made me so angry I‟ve gone and left my Big Shiny Sword™ behind where I dropped it! Oh, and I am in no mood to retrieve it.”
  • 201. “But never mind for we appear to have reached our destination! “ “Oh my, Good Sir you are quite correct! The Count and Countess must surely dwell behind such a grand door.” “I bet he couldn‟t have managed to bring you all the way here unscathed.”
  • 202. “Oh come now! I think that the alchemist is quite happy toiling away in his laboratory without the rest of the world disturbing him. Is that what is bothering you so, my Knight?” “But he made me feel such a fool..” “But you are quite the opposite! As you rightly said, I would never have made it this far if it were not for you.”
  • 203. “And besides, it is you that was chosen to be my companion for this journey, not he, so rest it from your mind.” “Thank you my Lady. It has been an honour to travel with you, and you are truly a great friend. Even if you do shriek rather a lot.”
  • 204. “It‟s part of the whole deal I‟m afraid. But I return the sentiment, you are a fine and friend and there is no one better to have brought me this far on our travels.” “So onward!” cried the Knight happily, his demeanour restored at last. “Yes dear. But there appears to be a trail of some grilled gooey substance on the floor leading to the door. And it would not be becoming of a Lady to let her dress drag in such gubbins! It looks like you‟re going to have to carry me.” “Onward!”
  • 205. “Oorf, have you been to the bakers a few too many times this week, my Lady?” “Shut up. I‟m in mourning!” “Ah, of course you are. And cake is required for such things?” “Yes.”
  • 206. Pushing the door open, the Knight deposited the Lady into the chamber that lay within. Blinking at the sudden influx of light, the pair looked around them. “Well.” said the Lady, “this certainly isn‟t what I was expecting.” “Nor I, fair maid.”
  • 207. The Knight walked up to the pedestal on which two tall thrones stood and took a closer look at the strange room. “Is this a spice rack I see before me?” he mused. “How bizarre..”
  • 208. “They certainly seem fond of tea.” the Lady observed. “But although this room appears packed of worldly comforts, the residents appear nowhere to be seen.”
  • 209. “Well isn‟t it obvious? One needs to summon them, My Lady. You can hardly expect the Countess to just sit around all day drinking tea and eating biscuits waiting for people to drop in and say hello!” “Why not? That‟s what I‟d do it I was a Countess. But I fear you may be correct once again Good Sir Knight. Although, what do I say to a Countess?” “Anything you want!”
  • 210. Clearing her throat, the Lady timidly began to call out a summons. “Um.. Excuse me? *cough* If it isn‟t too much trouble, I er would like very much to er.. Oh, I just cannot do it Sir!”
  • 211. “Never mind my Lady, let me try. HEY! COUNT AND COUNTESS! We want a word with you, we‟ve been through quite enough waiting and running today from your castle and we COMMAND YOUR PRESCENECE. NOW!”
  • 212.
  • 213. “Really, is that so?” spoke the Countess of the Castle. She and her husband appeared on their thrones as the smoke cleared. Clearly the Knight‟s words had done their job. She smiled at the two travellers, and in doing so bared two very white and pointed teeth beneath her pale lips.
  • 214. “I can‟t look! I can‟t looooook!” “Oh good heavens! Vampires..” breathed the Knight, and looked around in panic. “And me without my Big Shiny Sword™! Fear not Fair Lady, I will still stand by you till the end, and ward off these vicious monsters the best I can.” “No wonder everyone is so afraid of this place!”
  • 215. “And rightly so.” continued the Countess. “My husband and I have ruled over these lands for centuries, and shall do so for all time to come. I commend you for daring to face the trials of our Castle, for they have been many and great in danger. Only the strongest survive and although you have made it this far, I‟m afraid I don‟t take kindly to those interrupting my personal time.” Throughout her speech, the travellers couldn‟t help but notice a rather strained expression on the Countess's face.
  • 216. The Count had also seemingly noticed, and let out a laugh. “My darling! I admire your efforts greatly – but do not try to hold it in. You would not be yourself otherwise, nor the woman I fell in love with. Please. Go ahead.” “Aww, poppet-nose!”
  • 217. “Roight, I gives up I do!” she cried and threw her hands in there air. “‟ere, what does you want anyways? You is from the village, ain‟t you Miss? I „ave seen you around before I „ave! „Specially down the tavern, quaffin‟ cider and chattin‟ about nonsense. But I ain‟t never seen your grinn-y faced companion before I „aven‟t? What is you boff doin‟ „ere?”
  • 218. “Please Great Countess, I have heard tales of your powers far and wide. I have been left with no choice except to seek you out, although it was not a quest I undertook lightly. This is Sir Vox-a-lot, and he has delivered me safely to you out of the goodness of his heart and I owe him much thanks. For you see Countess – I have lost my Love. Cruelly snatched away from me before our time together was through and now I am sore alone. I have come to you to beg for aid, I have heard many a-rumour that you may be able to return my Love to me. Please, my happiness is at your mercy.”
  • 219. The Countess studied the maid‟s face, and after a while slowly rose from her throne. “You is speakin‟ to me of Love, young maiden, and I see the desperation in your eyes to be reuni‟ed, I do. The rumours of which you speak is also true, they is. Yes, I can „elp you. And I will.”
  • 220. “For I know a fing or two about love, I do. You see, before I met moi one true love „ere, I was also roight sore alone too, I was. Moi loife was not one which I like to chat‟er about it ain‟t, but I remebers the pain of bein‟ alone, I do. You speak wiv truf in your eyes and I understan‟ that your love must be as grea‟ as moin is for my chicken bum. Ooow, he‟s well lovely „ee is! I couldn‟ even imagine anuvver day wivout „im..”
  • 221. “Oh my, what a lovely ceiling! Mm yes. If I just keep looking at the ceiling everything will be okay.. No more squicky feelings! Just nice safe ceiling.” “Okay.. That‟s great and everything, but what about me? You said you‟d help me regain my Lost Love! Countess, please. You‟re my only hope!”
  • 222. “Hmm? Wot? Behin‟ tha‟ curtain over there..” said the Countess dreamily, gesturing to a sheet of black material behind her. “You‟ll fin‟ wot you is lookin‟ for over there. I‟ve foun‟ what I‟m lookin‟ for roight here though..”
  • 223. “Well, she certainly isn‟t what I expected.. Nevertheless, I hope she‟s right! Oh my Love, I‟m coming for you..”
  • 224. “Good Sir? Care you to help me lift this veil and finally reunite me with my quarry? I cannot wait to see my Love again!” “Tra la la, still counting ceiling tiles I‟m afraid My Lady! These vampires are fearsome indeed.” “Aww, suit yourself. I think they‟re rather sweet!” Grinning, she pulled back the curtain to reveal..
  • 225. “ A big old box? Er, Countessa? I hate to break it to you, but my Love wasn‟t a big old box.”
  • 226. “Insoide the chest, lovie!”
  • 227. “Oh right. That makes more sense.” Kneeling down, the Lady stroked the latch of the chest. “Do not fear my Love, for I am here now. And I swear from this day forward we shall never be parted again, so long as we both shall live. And hopefully after too, if these two are anything to go by. Oh my Love, how I have missed you..” Without being able to wait another moment, the Lady threw open the lid.
  • 228. “EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! At last, oh at long last!” As her shrieks of joy filled the room, the chest fell away to reveal the object of all the Lady‟s desire, whom she had been searching for, for so long.
  • 229. “My Loves! At last you are back! Wooohooooooo! Oh, my little darlings..”
  • 230. “I have missed you more than words can say my dears.. You are without a doubt my own true Love! Little Eddie, and baby Stuart! Aah, Journey – there you are! Playing in the reeds with Dominic and Gethin as usual.. Rhys! Get away from that filter! You‟re scaring dear little Oz.. Oh, and there he is. My favouritest of them all! SPIDEY-SPOO! Oh, I‟ve missed you. Mummy‟s never going to forget to feed you all ever again. No she isn‟t!”
  • 231. “What the hell?!” shouted the Knight when he saw what the chest contained. “FISH?! Fish.. We came all this way looking for some bloody fish? I braved life and limb for some little teleosts, this is unbelievable..”
  • 232. “Why? Look „ow „appy she is, surely tha‟s wot you came „ere for ain‟t it? You Lady is reuni‟ed wiv her lost Love, and it‟s all thanks to your bravery and good „eart. Surely it‟s smiles all „round ain‟t it?”
  • 233. “Yeah but.. I was under the impression we were looking for a person. It‟s great that she‟s happy and all, but generally when someone talks about their Love, they mean someone of the same species at least! I.. Guess we did good, but still!”
  • 234. “You seemingly still have a lot to learn about love, Knight.” It was the Count who spoke. Although he had so far been generally happy to let his wife do the talking to these strange guests, he felt he had something to say. “The words Love and Romance mean many different things to many different people. For me it means an eternity with the one woman I could ever truly love by my side, for your friend here it seems to mean a tank full of fish with which is pass an evening. Have you ever thought what it really means to you?”
  • 235. “Well I..” the Knight started. “Of course I have! I want to help all the maidens in distress, and aid them in their troubles and strife. Make their sorrow vanish and see their faces alight with smiles. There are still many out there that I have yet to meet, and I will not stop until I have done so! That is surely a noble calling.”
  • 236. “He still has a way to go.” smiled the Count, and turned to his wife. “Yeah, but „ee „as a good „eart. I „ave no doubt that „ee will find „is way eventually.” “Just so long as it doesn‟t mean turning into simpering saps like the two of you. No wonder everyone‟s scared to come here, the sight of you two is just too.. Squicky!”
  • 237. “Oh really?” Quickly rasing a hand to his mouth, the Knight looked at the floor. “I shouldn‟t have said that out loud, should I?” “No. You probably shouldn‟ „ave. But wha‟s done is done!” “Indeed it is. Thank you for your company Knight, but I think it‟s time you left us be now.”
  • 238. “Do come again, won‟t cha!” cried the Countess, as the Knight suddenly felt a very strange sensation beneath his feet. Without warning, the floor he was standing on gave way and he found himself falling. “Oh, I loike your „air!” she finished, just as he disappeared from view and down into the pit below.
  • 239. “Thank you Good Sir Knight.. For everything.” ----
  • 241. *THUD* With a crash, the Knight landed on the floor on the Countess‟s underground dungeon. After several seconds trying to work out whether he could still breathe or not (he could), if he was still alive (he was), and just how much he was annoyed with the Countess ( a lot), he finally started to drag himself to his feet.
  • 242. “Urk.. Well I can‟t say that was my particular favourite part of this adventure. There was no need to go and throw me in a pit! Well, that‟s nobility for you.” He started to blink into the gloom. “What is this place anyway?” But before he had time to fully adjust..
  • 243. “Oh my god it‟s a MAN! A real life MAN!” “I want him, he first!” “*scream!!!!!*” “NO, he fell nearest to meeeee!” “I‟m starved of manly affection! “I WANT HIS SMEXY HAIR.”
  • 244. The Good Knight smiled. “So Ladies. Anyone in need of any rescuing today?”
  • 246. Well, there you go! I hope you enjoyed my little tale that had nothing to do with anything! Although I‟m still incapable of meeting any deadline ever, this was a lot of fun to do and it feels AWESOME to be writing my bunch of idiots again  A lot of you know why I‟ve taken such a long break from my Legacy, and to those who don‟t just take it that I wasn‟t in the right mind-frame to sit down and work on it, as much as I wanted to. But working on this, and also my fluff of an OWBC has put me back into the place that I want to be and I can now happily say with complete confidence: Normal Legacy services will begin again soon! Before the end of the year anyway. But until then:
