Narrative Essay On A River Runner
Sturgeon River Runner
I thought it was going to be a cool and relaxing river, but I was wrong. Finally, school was out and it
was time for fun and excitement during summer vacation, so my dad thought it was a good idea to
go camping and kayaking. Every summer our family goes on a trip to the Platte River. However,
when I was ten years old my parents decided to do something different and go to the Sturgeon River
instead. This would be one of the fastest and craziest river I have ever gone kayaking on.
We headed to Turtle Lake Campground, and finally arrived around noon so we still had plenty of
time to explore. Since I had never been there before I decided to check it out as soon as I could. I
offered to go on a bike ride with my friend Lucas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"Cody!" My dad shouted as he seen me go head first into an ice cold rapid river. My dad dove in the
water right behind me and grabbed my arm as I was getting pulled under by the undertow and pulled
me up to shore.
"Cody are you ok?" My dad asked.
"Yes" I replied as I took my shoes off to drain the water out. My dad grabbed my kayak and he
flipped it over to drain the water out of it. I was really cold and scared while we were standing on
the shore of the river waiting for the water to drain back into the river, but I learned my lesson that
day and I still remember that episode whenever I go kayaking.
I've learned that I should never get to carried away when doing serious things because it could go
bad and have consequences. I had a lot of fun that day but if I would've taken more caution then It
could've had a different result. Whenever I go kayaking my dad and I still remember the accident

Personal Narrative: The Great Lakes
Have you ever been to the Great Lakes? The Great Lakes are huge. I went there before. I had to go
there to drop off a piece of equipment. We went to The Great Lakes. We spent some time there and
played for a little while. Then we had to leave. They won't allow people to swim in the great lakes
because there was a crocodile in there. My most favorite place is The Great Lakes. The Great Lakes
were tremendous. There are fish, turtles, snapping turtles, and People fishing in the lakes. There
were trees around the lakes. There are ducks and the sun was sparkling on the water and people with
eyeglasses. There are activities that you can do while at the Great Lakes. You can do fishing,
kayaking, fly fishing, and kite surfing. People are allowed

Reflection
Reflections Both simple and complex reflections were used. A simple reflection used towards the
beginning of the interview transpired into, "pretty active out doing a lot of things." Alternatively, a
complex reflection used when reflecting on Sarah's feelings about what her friends think about her
not socializing subsisted of, "it bothers you thinking about them, wondering about your intentions."
I used twice as many complex reflections as simple reflections. Unfortunately, I should have used
many more complex reflections so there was two reflections for every question instead of the other
way around. In order to reflect the amount of fun she had with friends, I could have said, "It sounds
like you had a ton of fun just hanging out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead of asking another open question of, "would you be ok with that?" I should have used a
complex reflection, "socializing, re–establishing old friendships and engaging in activities you once
enjoyed is an option that intrigues you." This may have been more effective at pushing toward those
feelings of why she really wants to be more social.
Summaries
Only a few summaries were offered throughout the interview and I did not end with a summary like
I had intended. The summary that reflected more change talk was, "you had a lot of fun, it made you
happy to go out and do things, go to the mountains, go to the bars, go to movies, just hang out with
friends, and you're telling me that all changed when you went into grad school and you believe you
used that as an excuse to not go out, do I have that right? I gave it back to the client, but did not end
on change talk. I should have switched it around, started with acknowledging how Sarah was using
grad school as an excuse and then I could have ended on change talk with all the reasons why she
enjoyed socializing in the past. Another improvement would have been to use more summaries
throughout the conversation. The final summary should have been, "you got to the point where grad
school was an excuse not to socialize, but now you are thinking more about how much you value
your friendships and

I have just finished High School and I am currently a student at Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh

I really love classic American literature, I recently re–read "To Kill a Mockingbird" in preparation
for the release of Harper Lee's new book "Go Set A Watchman", which I am presently reading. My
friends used to call me the Batman– not because I love comic book– but because of my obscure
hobby of bat surveying and conservation. I was a member of the Clyde Bat Group for a few years.
Once I had to give a presentation to people at school about bat conservation in the area. From this
they decided that the nickname "The Batman" was apt. A few weeks ago I was running for a train at
Glasgow Central Station, my friends and I were running late after they insisted that we should stop
to try a bubble tea, anyway we were running to the ticket gate and realised that the thing wasn't
working, the man at the gate let some people through manually and I was next. The gate remained
open so I just decided that if I didn't run through right then I would miss my train. As I ran through,
the gate closed suddenly and forced me to the ground which was embarrassing enough in front of a
crowed station but then I realised that the bubble tea was no longer in my hand, it was making it's
way in mid air towards a very smartly dressed businessman. He moved just as the bright pink liquid
hit the ground. To this day I don't he noticed how close he was to being covered in strawberry pink

The location of the camp is Emerald Bay just east of Arrow Point. The climate is warm and
sometimes cloudy. Animals that live on this beautiful island are foxes, bison, deer, and feral cats.
Catalina is only a 1–2 hour boat trip depending on where you live and the ride back is usually faster.

Emerald bay is an amazing place to snorkel. While snorkeling you will see kelp forests, Garibaldi,
Sheephead, Blacksmith, and other small fish. Before snorkeling you can wear a wetsuit. Wearing a

all the way to a rock out in the ocean. Before kayaking the leader will teach you how to steer the
kayak using the paddles. Just in case you do fall in you will be provided with a life jacket. When
your kayaking you will be able to see the Garibaldi fish and the kelp forest. When you're close
enough to shore you can stand on your kayak and the possibility of you falling in is high.

Kayak Catastrophe : Short Story
Kayak Catastrophe
It was one of those gorgeous summer days. The sun was beaming down on us in 90 degree weather.
I, Molly Johnson, and my best friend, Josie, were getting tanned by the powerful rays of the sun.
"Hey Molly" Josie said as she was trying to not die of heat. "We should go to the beach."
"That's a good idea. I am sweating like a pig and my mom can give us a ride."
"Great! Let's go."
We jumped out of our seats and ran inside. Once we got inside, we went over to the kitchen to ask
my mom.
"Whoa girls, you look like you just went for a swim!" "We ran in here because we wanted to ask you
something mom. Can we go to the beach?" "Sure! That sounds like a great idea." "Thanks Mom, we
will go get dressed!" Josie is also my next door neighbor. While she ran over to her house to get
ready, I went upstairs to get dressed. A few minutes later, we went over to Josie's house to pick her
up. We only live about ten minutes away from the beach.
Once we pulled into the beach parking lot, I spotted a bunch of kayaks. Next to the kayaks there was
a sign that read: " Rent a kayak for only $25"
"Josie look, we can rent kayaks!"
"Wow. I love kayaking."
"Mom, can we rent one?"
"Sure!"
We got out of the car, grabbed the money from my mom and ran over to the kayaks.
"Hi, we would like to rent a kayak please." I said, trying to wipe off the sweat dripping down my
face.
"Of course! Here you go. Don't forget to make sure the life jackets are on properly."
"OK, thank you" We said in sync to the nice lady that had gotten our kayaks.
We ran into the ocean and sat in the kayak. We had gone pretty far out into the ocean. I could smell
the slimy seaweed. The coolness of the ocean water up against my face felt relaxing. I was in my
happy place. The sun was shimmering down on us, making the ocean shine, like a sea full of
diamonds.
Out of the blue, the shimmering of the sun went away, and a dark cloud covered the glowing sun.
Ginormous waves started taking over the stillness of the water. The kayak started shaking from left
to right. The next thing I knew, Josie and I were in the water, and the kayak was drifting away. We
were stuck in the middle of the ocean!
"Molly, what are we going to do!"
"Um, I don't

Best Places In California
Best Places in California to go Kayaking California is a beautiful state that is lined with outstanding

many people really consider California to be such a great place for kayaking. Therefore, we are

this state you are visiting. Northern California When in Northern California, you may want to visit
tranquil lakes such as Gold Lake, Lake Clementine, or Lake Almanor. If you visit during the wrong
time of day you may have to deal with winds, but overall, it is a great place to enjoy life from a

Anything you hope to find can be found in an area close by. The same can be said for kayaking
adventures whether you want to relax or experience challenges. Are you ready to escape the city
life? If you are ready to escape the city, the LA river is a great place to go kayaking if you want to
see the wildlife that calls it home. If you enjoy the hustle and bustle, even while kayaking, you may
enjoy visiting the Marina del Rey, California's busiest harbor. You simply have to watch out for
boats. Relax and enjoy seeing dolphins and other aquatic animals in Long Beach's Alamitos Bay. If
you do not own a kayak, you can still take advantage of this area thanks to kayak rentals. Another
very popular area for sea life viewing is the Channel Islands. However, when you venture here, you
should definitely not be a beginner in the world of kayaking because the conditions of the water can
change rapidly from calm to rough. If natural wonders appeal to your senses, you can visit La Jolla
where there are amazing cliffs that offer some truly unexpected beauty. It is where pirates once hid

Notes On Sea Kayaking Force Wind
Kayaking
When everyone hears the word kayaking they all think about one type of boat and one type of
kayaking and they are sea kayaking and a sit on top. Let's talk about sea kayaking before boats and
different types of equipment shall we? Sea kayaking to most kayakers is an unknown place. People
who kayak don't generally think of going out on the sea. Either because they think that the tides will
drag them out or that it is to much work to move your boat, to these people I say that this is
absolutely not true and it is no harder to move on the sea than to move on a flowing river. admittedly
on a river you don't have big waves but still there is next to no difference in how hard it is to move,
and as for the tides unless you irresponsible and decide to go out in gala–force wind, then the only
thing you have to think about is the current not the tide. Once you understand all of these variables
you can have tons of fun out there after all the sea is the biggest white water centre there is.
Away from sea kayaking let's look at some of the other aspects of kayaking. There are many
different types of kayaking there is white water kayaking that is all to do with what is basically
throwing yourself down the most wildest rivers you can and praying you come out the other end
with yourself and all your stuff intact. There is also slalom which is going through gates whilst
going down a rapid, and then there is freestyle. Now personally I like freestyle it is not really the

How Does Dave Eggers Create A Dystopian Society
Utopias tend to capture an idealistic view of a society. Complete perfection is impossible; it creates
a system that is inherently imperfect causing utopias to turn into dystopias. The advancement of
technology has created a dystopian ideal of society in which the agency of privacy is challenged.
Dave Eggers' novel The Circle depicts a society where individuals have capitalized on the idea of a
technologically controlled world. Mae, the protagonist in the novel slowly becomes an icon of the
"digital age." Eggers asserts of the dangers of living in a technological utopian society through the
use of character development. In The Circle, Dave Eggers uses Mae's gradual conversion in order to
describe her as the paragon of a transparent society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mae's eventual desire to make everything transparent is one of Eggers underlying messages. After
her Kayaking trip, Mae engages in a conversation with Bailey who asks her if she wants to share
with the public what she was doing earlier. She replies by saying, "You give them anything you can.
If you care about their plight, their suffering, their curiosity, their right to learn and know anything
the world contains, you share with them. You share what you have and what you see and what you
know. To me, the logic there is undeniable." Egger uses Mae's drastic change into a less private
person as the central point in his assertion. Mae's character development explains the changes in a
society that is becoming transparent. She was more vigilant with what she made public. Soon, she
begins to feed off the Circle's ideas of transparency eventually joining SeeChange. Seechange is a
form of program that utilizes small cameras that are worn mostly by politicians and ultimately by
Mae. The camera's purpose is to go transparent; to show the public everything. Society will
eventually become like Mae. Society will be so consumed with the digital age to the point of
forgetting common human

Grassroots Change: A Personal Community Analysis
Being involved in my community and contributing to grassroots change has always been important
to me. Over the past five years I have been actively working to get youth involved in outdoor
activity and sports. If we fail to foster a love of the outdoors and being active from a young age,
getting youth to engage in healthy lifestyle choices for both them and the planet in the future will be
infinitely more challenging.
My most valuable volunteer contribution to my community came from the years I spent coaching
sports for youth. I started as an assistant coach of an under–ten girls team in grade nine, contributing
two hours a week. I wanted to be a role model for the young girls and show them that those who
play and participate in soccer are not all men. I gained significant leadership skills from this
experience, and I enjoyed giving back to a soccer community that had given me so much pleasure as
I was growing up. The next year, I continued in my assistant coach role with under–ten girls,
coaching for two hours a week. My role was important for the players because I brought a more
nurturing, fun–oriented attitude and encouraged strong camaraderie between the girls. This

water and kayaking empowers people allowing them access to this exciting new world, provided
that they properly respect the dangers. As I returned to school this year, two peers and I helped start
a new part of the kayaking program in order to increase the number of people who would be able to
participate. This program is highly successful and has helped two of its participants overcome a fear

Narrative Essay About Canoeing
Canoeing was always something I had wanted to do. Years ago, my family and close friends would
go canoeing down the beautiful Cedar River in Osage, but I was always too young to go along. This
past summer, while sitting in the shop with my dad and brother, on a hot and humid day, my dad
suggested that we should go canoeing down the Upper Iowa River. I jumped up with excitement as I
was so happy that I would finally get to go canoeing.
When Sunday came around, my mom, dad, Theo, and I headed to Cresco to go on my first little
canoeing trip. Before we could just jump in the river with a canoe, we had to register. Upon arriving
at the registering table, I could see the long line of anxious kids, like me, and frustrated parents,
most likely like mine, standing in line to register. We spent a good twenty minutes standing in the
hot rays of the rising sun over the opened, grassy area, near the banks of the river just trying to
register to get a canoe.
After finally being able to register, my family along with other strangers, piled into a van pulling a
rusty rack carrying at least twelve canoes and kayaks each. I wasn't sure our canoes would make it
to the river entrance after seeing how they weren't even strapped down as we were flying around
curve after curve on a dusty gravel road. All the windows in the van were open making the ride to
the entrance a little unpleasant. We could feel the warm, dusty air blowing at us from all directions.

"Just around the river–bend...Should I choose the smoothest course, steady as the beating drum?" If
you've ever heard this song from Pocahontas, then you know that this part of the song relates to
many aspects of life. This song reflects the decision that my best friend and I made this summer.
My best friend, Julia, and I are a very outdoorsy pair and are avid fishers. Naturally, our first choice
of entertainment is something outdoor related. We decided that the week I leave for my Colorado

There was two different ways to go, the longer path, which was the smoothest course that would add
on time or the path that was half the size but was rocky and would be like white water rafting on a
babbling brook. We, being the adventurous/amazing decision makers we are, chose the rockier part.
We paddled right and the water level started getting lower and lower to the point to where the
kayaks were so shallow where we were bottoming them out on rocks. The first thing that came to
mind was Julia, I think we picked the wrong path. By this time, it was too late to turn back so we
had to keep going forward. The kayaks were still getting stuck and wouldn't move anymore so we
had to get out and pull them behind us as our bare feet were prodded by the rocks that were as sharp
as knives. Our feet were getting stabbed by the rocks and were getting wrapped up in the mosses
and weeds. We got through the rocks and were on the other side to only realize that our net had
fallen out of the kayak. We left the kayaks and scurried through the rocks again to find it back at the
beginning of the rocks. Take the path less traveled they said, it'll be fun they said. (4) We quickly
noticed that the kayaks were free and were floating away. With much pain, we ran back over the
rocks and like the Jesus Christ Lizards on water (7). I remember us holding hands and looking at

"Well, the water must be down and there must not be a current. Just keep paddling until you see

ocean, its majestic beauty that seemed to be hidden until I experienced the ocean for myself.
We were an hour into our trip when I started to hear the sound of laughing water. I looked out
towards a big wave that dad and little brother battled through. My heart jumped at the sight of the
wave, rolling in towards me. I heard the hissing of waves inching closer to my kayak. I looked

Personal Narrative: A Vietnam Trip
It's the first day of summer, Derek and I are traveling to Vietnam. I am feeling ecstatic, and
overjoyed. I got up before sunset, and attempted to wake up Derek, but he kept on refusing to get
up. I began to head downstairs into the garage, grabbing two luggages, a few plastic bag, then went
back upstairs and began packing. Our flight was at, 3pm, from San Francisco to Hanoi, to Ho Chi
Minh City. I went back to wake up Derek, he finally woke up and said "I forgot to set my alarm",
man he was a forgetful kid. He got up took a shower, until 9, and then finally began packing. I took
Derek out for breakfast at Denny's, then began to head to San Francisco International Airport.

We waited and waited until, all of the luggages came out. I was getting pissed, how can we not have
our luggages, were we at the wrong carousel. I decided to head to the lost and found, with Derek, it
turns out it was still left in San Francisco, due to the Xbox. They offered us $1000 and a free hotel
for us to stay in during our trip.
The hotel was a five star hotel, that made Derek's and I mood change from pissed to delighted and
pleased. We were greeted plenty of times, it was just like our home. We walked to our room, with a
facial recognition door, everything required a king, a free mini bar. We slept early then, got ready for

The next morning, we were booked for an excursion to go kayaking. I couldn't wait to show Derek,
about how we would Kayak back then. While, kayaking we saw many fishes in the water, and we
decided to go fishing after, and Derek enjoyed it. Kayaking was a tire activity, we went straight to
the hotel right after, to go to sleep.
In conclusion, the trip with Derek was one of the best trip I ever had. Even though, Derek was
always so forgetful, it didn't ruin this trip at all because all I wanted was a trip of bonding, with my

How Does Dave Eggers Create A Dystopian Society?
Utopias tend to capture an idealistic view of a society. However, complete perfection is impossible,
it creates a system that is inherently imperfect. Dave Eggers' novel The Circle depicts a society in
which individuals have capitalized the idea of a technologically controlled world. Mae, the
protagonist in the novel slowly becomes an icon of the "digital age." Eggers asserts the danger of
living in a technological dystopian society through the use of character development. In The Circle,
Dave Eggers uses Mae's gradual conversion to transparency to illustrate the notion that transparency
is inevitable. A society that is succumbing to transparency greatly limits the amount of "humans
rights" individuals have. In order for a society to be functional there is a need for privacy. Not
everything needs to be shared. There are things that every individual is entitled to keep to him or
herself. Eggers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mae, who succumbs to technology, illustrates this idea. Moreover, Eggers concludes the novel with
Mae completing the Circle. Eggers claim that transparency is inevitable is truly justified by Mae's
acceptance of transparency itself; proving that even the strongest most technologically free people
can succumb to the power of transparency. Mae's disassociation with emotions and everyone close
to her also proves Eggers assertion that the digital age will not result in many positive outcomes, on
the contrary society will become dependent on technology. This dependency also creates a bridge
with other problems such as willingness, totality, and assurance of transparency. More or less
transparency has no boundaries between what is acceptable and what is correct to share. While
transparency can seem appealing in today's digital age, it comes with baggage. There is a price to
pay for ultimate transparency where knowing everything can result in an emotionless, identical, and

The Wascana Racing Canoe Club
When I was in grade 8, I joined the Wascana Racing Canoe Club. Ever since, sprint kayaking has
been a huge aspect of my life. I have attended the 2012 Saskatchewan Summer Games, 2013
Sherbrooke Canada Summer Games, 2013 Montreal Canadian Canoe Kayak Nationals, 2014 Regina
Canadian Canoe Kayak Nationals, and the 2015 Ottawa Canadian Canoe Kayak Nationals. The
picture above is from the 2013 Canada Summer Games. My team boat partner, Alyssa, is one of my
best friends. In this picture, Alyssa and I are in a safety boat after tipping in a two person 6000–
meter race. This picture represents me in many ways. It depicts kayaking which is one of my
passions, the value I put on friendship, some of my qualities such as determination and commitment,
and my inspiration for my interest in physical therapy.
In the picture I chose, I am doing one of my passions, kayaking. I have been involved in kayaking
for 5 years. It is a large aspect of my life as I spend between nine to fifteen hours a week training
and have traveled across Canada for various competitions. When I started kayaking, I went to a
weeklong summer camp and fell in love with the sport. I then joined racing program, which lasted
the entire summer. During this time, I had the opportunity to begin training in various team boats. As
I spent more time training, I became stronger and faster so my coach invited me to join the
developmental high performance group. In this group, I spent more time training vigorously and

Current Events Of Olympic Athletes
External environment
Current events
Olympic athletes inspire the masses with stories of triumph over adversity. They are viewed as
regular people with an Olympic dream. But Olympic athletes are only able to attract attention to
them and their accomplishments once every four years when the Games take place. That is why they
must take their careers into their own hands. Through the use of social media, athletes can build a
fan base and make themselves constantly relevant.
NBC, which is the sole broadcaster for the Olympic Games in the Unites States, claims that their
primetime Olympic broadcasts bring attention to the best athlete stories regardless of gender. During

Industry
Industry growth
The individual sports industry has continually shown growth due to the enormous increase in media
exposure, particularly via cable channels dedicated to individual sports, to meet the demands of avid
fans. The Olympics, in particular, have achieved increasing popularity over the past five years as a
result of the industry's growing social media presence and the broadcasting of events through online
streaming. It is anticipated that the industry will continue to grow as many sports increase their
broadcasting muscle through these new media channels.
Industry trends
Individual athletes are the stars of the sports industry and represent the second largest industry
segment. They are expected to continue to hold celebrated influence through a variety of
endorsements in the next five years. However, athletes also run a higher risk of failure based on the
competitive nature of their particular sports.
Olympians generate about 27 percent of the individual sports industry's total revenue. They also
offer the biggest example of sponsorship deals. At the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, the United

Extreme Sports Not About Risk Taking Essay
The extreme sports world is very unique, with a wide variety of sports to choose from and risks that
come along with them. Risks, although they do create a lot of adrenaline, are not the main reason
why these extreme athletes participate in these sports. There's a lot more to the extreme sports world
than just the adrenaline junkies and risk takers, believe it or not there is a lot more serenity in the
sports than thought to be. Extreme athletes are not all about the adrenaline rush, there is something
much deeper than that, it is where they find their peace. The variety of these exciting sports go
anywhere from BMX biking to Deep Sea Diving, each of them with their own risks, yet people still
come back for more. You would think that considering all the dangerous factors people would be
hesitant to try them, let alone continue to do them for the rest of their lives. This notion is

incredible amounts of adrenaline as they are being done, but this is not the reason theses athletes

some knit, and some of us take part in sports. I have never done an extreme sport but, I do
participate in multiple sports, lots of people ask me why I do them and how can I relax while i'm
running around a field or court. The sport itself gets me away from all the stress and pressures in my

different and decides to run away to escape what his life "should be". The abuse and arguing of his
parents was suggested to be one of the main reasons he goes "into the wild". He takes on multiple
risks throughout his adventure. For Chris, the first risk was abandoning his family, burning his social
security card, donating all his money, hitchhiking, going down the river without any knowledge,
inscribing his message and then eating the berries. If anything happens there is no way of finding
him because of his decision of changing his identity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From what the movie say Chris wanted to get away from his abusive family that he had. He also
wanted to get away from society. But at the same time would it have been such a risk if he was

out he could have planned where exactly he was going to stay. He could have brought a map so he
had some idea of where he actually was going. It could have changed the events that happened
throughout his adventure and would have changed the outcome.
Hitchhiking is a huge risk in itself, you never know what the outcome could be. Chris was
determined and just wanted to start over with his new life in the wild. Chris gets rides from multiple

The Traditional Kayaking: Native American Transportation
Kayaking is a modern way to enjoy a traditional mode of Native American transportation. The
traditional kayak was born in the Arctic regions of North America, where native tribes such as the
Inuit (or Eskimos) used the kayak to get from place to place over water. Kayaks have a
characteristically open body, allowing one to three paddlers full ability to sit in the kayak and
immerse themselves in the kayak body, or cockpit. To protect the cockpit from filling up with water,
Native Americans stretched waterproof fabrics over it, so that rolling the kayak in the water did not
let the kayak fill with water and sink, or expel its paddlers.
Kayaking is now a sport, and it can be a fun way to enjoy the water. It is also a great way to
exercise, considering all the paddling that has to be done. If you are interested in kayaking, you also
need to know the basics of today's kayak models. Today's kayaks are relatively inexpensive, and
because kayaks are easier to store than larger modes of water transportation, such as boats, they can
be extremely popular. Before buying a kayak, you need to know the different kinds of kayaks, and
you may need to read different kayak reviews. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Short Note On My Performance Improvement Program Essay
PE STUDIES INTERNAL
Confidence is a key aspect to succeed
Confidence–Belief in one's own abilities, self–trust
When going to evaluate the effectiveness of my performance improvement programme I needed to
consider the experiences that I found when doing the programme and the trainings. I asked myself
when doing this programme like what is required in order to improve my kayaking skill level and is
confidence really the key to succeeding in improving my performance. In order to find out this
information I needed to be honest and clear in my vision to do this an unbiased judgement is needed
in evaluating my progress. A performance improvement programme for me in kayaking is key, due
to this sport being relatively new to me having no real experience. It's a good way to introduce me to
kayaking because it helps you evaluate new areas of the sport like doing an eskimo roll. A
programme like this helps me achieve and evaluate specific goals that are both realistic and
achievable over a 6 week course and develop the skills and gain what knowledge is required e.g. hip
flicking is the most important aspect in rolling in my opinion. I believe it is important to evaluate
yourself at the start of the programme to get a gauge at what type of learning you are at, which in
my case it was cognitive stage which is defined as develops the understanding of how to perform the
skill. Which in other terms means you haven't practised the skill you're just learning about the skill.

The Great Alaskan Voyage
The Great Alaskan Voyage
Waking up feeling the cold, brisk air, I rolled over and hopped off the pull out couch.
The idea of being in a small kayak in the ocean off the coast of Seward, Alaska was a little
terrifying. On July 14th, my family and I cruised on a kayaking trip in the Alaskan Pacific Ocean.
From Miller's Landing, we traveled to a World War II military base in kayaks. My family had been
talking about this kayak adventure since we planned our vacation to Alaska. I had no idea what to
expect. All I knew is that I was a baby kayaker paddling in a gianormous ocean. Little did I know,
that I would paddle for hours, explore not only Alaska's history, but America's, and have a lifetime
experience that I will never forget. I knew nothing about kayaking. Neither did the rest of my
family. In the matter of maybe 15 minutes our kayak instructors, Matt and Amy educated us on how
to paddle and keep the kayak afloat, we were then launched into the frigid ocean. No one knew
exactly how far we would be paddling in this vast open water that seemed to engulf us all. In the
beginning, I was being very precise with my newly learned skills, starting the oar at my feet and
pulling it up to my hip. I was also precise on cutting the water correctly to save energy. Shortly after
paddling which seemed like forever, we were only halfway to our destination. Amy yelled out, "The
island is right up there," by then I was ready for a break, my arms burned and my hips were stiff.

Kayaking is an interesting water sports that is becoming very popular. It gives trilling experience as
you set about conquering the water element alone! Kayaking is unlike canoeing, differing from it by
the sitting position of the rower in the kayak, the name of the paddle–boat, and the type and number
of blades on the paddle. In kayaking, the paddler, or the rower of the kayak, sits facing forward and
placing his or her legs forward. The paddler uses a paddle that has blades on both ends. Although
some kayaks can be used as sit–on–top kayak, that is, the paddler sits on top of the kayak, majority
of these kayaks have closed decks. Difference between Kayaking And Canoeing In canoeing, the
sitting position of the paddler is different from that in kayaking. The paddler sits in kneeling position
and also faces forward. The blade of the kayak paddle is single compared to the tow blades used in
kayaking. Canoes, small paddle–boats used in canoeing, can be either closed or open decked in
nature. Kayaking is one of the world's most diverse sports, and there are many different types of
kayaking appropriate for all levels of expertise. For the vacation travellers to the beaches, it provides
trills of enjoying the sea alone, away from the crowded beaches. Become a kayaking expert and you
will enjoy long hours on the waves! Sea kayaking, whitewater kayaking, play–boats, surfing, flat–
water racing, down river racing, recreational, slalom, and canoe polo are all variations on the sport
of kayaking. Some of these sports involve different kinds of equipment, and some have become
widely recognized in the sporting world, in extreme events as well as the Olympics. Sea Kayaking
Sea kayaking was the very first kayaking event, although it was not considered a sport at the time.

A Lot Of People Dream Of Going Canoeing Or Kayaking. These
A lot of people dream of going canoeing or kayaking. These are definitely excellent ways not only
to break your monotony in life but also to get yourself into shape. But most of these wannabe
paddlers find it difficult to pursue their hobbies as they fail to find like minded companions and don

adventure sports. Here we are listing down five steps that you can follow to get started with your

You can also swap your gear with others to have a feel of what suits you right. You can do this at

or by randomly asking people. Enroll in a formal class on canoeing or kayaking to have a more
systematic training. There are beginner 's lessons available for rookies. But advanced courses are
also available. So take the course that suits you and follow your instructions diligently. On the other
hand once you start considering yourself to be an expert, you can turn an instructor yourself and
help others.
Oh, no, oh, no, my boat is broke. I hear this every once in a while at my job as a kayak

Usually some nut has been dragging their Old Town Otter over a cement driveway. Well, duh, who 's

their Eddyline or Hurricane thermoformed kayak. Now these boats are tough, they 're made of a

pretty most people don 't drag them around. But accidents happen and boats will break given the

Life Changing Experience With My Family And My Friend
Last summer, I had a life changing experience with my family and my friend Jenny in Oregon. My
intention of this vacation was to show Jenny the beautiful Oregon views and spend time with my
family who moved there two years ago. We rarely see my aunt and uncle because school and work
often get in the way. However, we booked a trip for last August and flew out to spend two weeks
with them. I am thankful for this experience because I am now a different person.
During the car ride from the airport my uncle asked us what kind of activities we were interested in
doing while we were visiting. This was an easy question because during the plane ride, Jenny and I
were talking about hiking and kayaking. When we mentioned that we could not wait to go ... Show

There were kids of all ages pushing and shoving each other to get into the river. I was trying my
hardest not to hit anyone as I placed my kayak on to the dirt. While I waited for Jenny to catch up to
me, I admired my kayak. The blue and green swirls resembled my eyes and maybe that is why I
always chose to use that one. Jenny's kayak was bright yellow and resembled a floating banana. I
stared at my kayak in the sparkling blue water. I could not wait any longer to jump in and start
paddling, so I climbed in. I double checked that I had my phone in my wristlet under my seat in case
my uncle needed to get in touch with me. I could not wait a second longer to be apart of the rafters
and paddleboarders effortlessly cruising by. I grabbed my paddle and made my way into the
calmness of the river. Every time I paddled, I was splashed by little droplets of water. I loved
watching the sunlight reflecting off of the surface. It was a magical and peaceful experience which
made me feel like I was in a dream. Little did I know this was about to be a nightmare.
When Uncle Glen called after us, he told us that we had an hour and that we needed to return back
to this same location. I nodded my head in agreement and felt the heat from the sun on the back of
my neck. I made note of how strong the river was flowing and if I wanted to, I could let the river
guide me without paddling. I sat back in my seat and felt at peace with the world and relaxed. As

Narrative Essay On A River Runner

  • 1. Narrative Essay On A River Runner Sturgeon River Runner I thought it was going to be a cool and relaxing river, but I was wrong. Finally, school was out and it was time for fun and excitement during summer vacation, so my dad thought it was a good idea to go camping and kayaking. Every summer our family goes on a trip to the Platte River. However, when I was ten years old my parents decided to do something different and go to the Sturgeon River instead. This would be one of the fastest and craziest river I have ever gone kayaking on. We headed to Turtle Lake Campground, and finally arrived around noon so we still had plenty of time to explore. Since I had never been there before I decided to check it out as soon as I could. I offered to go on a bike ride with my friend Lucas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Cody!" My dad shouted as he seen me go head first into an ice cold rapid river. My dad dove in the water right behind me and grabbed my arm as I was getting pulled under by the undertow and pulled me up to shore. "Cody are you ok?" My dad asked. "Yes" I replied as I took my shoes off to drain the water out. My dad grabbed my kayak and he flipped it over to drain the water out of it. I was really cold and scared while we were standing on the shore of the river waiting for the water to drain back into the river, but I learned my lesson that day and I still remember that episode whenever I go kayaking. I've learned that I should never get to carried away when doing serious things because it could go bad and have consequences. I had a lot of fun that day but if I would've taken more caution then It could've had a different result. Whenever I go kayaking my dad and I still remember the accident like it was ... We went to The Great Lakes. We spent some time there and played for a little while. Then we had to leave. They won't allow people to swim in the great lakes because there was a crocodile in there. My most favorite place is The Great Lakes. The Great Lakes were tremendous. There are fish, turtles, snapping turtles, and People fishing in the lakes. There were trees around the lakes. There are ducks and the sun was sparkling on the water and people with eyeglasses. There are activities that you can do while at the Great Lakes. You can do fishing, kayaking, fly fishing, and kite surfing. People are allowed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Reflection Reflections Both simple and complex reflections were used. A simple reflection used towards the beginning of the interview transpired into, "pretty active out doing a lot of things." Alternatively, a complex reflection used when reflecting on Sarah's feelings about what her friends think about her not socializing subsisted of, "it bothers you thinking about them, wondering about your intentions." I used twice as many complex reflections as simple reflections. Unfortunately, I should have used many more complex reflections so there was two reflections for every question instead of the other way around. In order to reflect the amount of fun she had with friends, I could have said, "It sounds like you had a ton of fun just hanging out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead of asking another open question of, "would you be ok with that?" I should have used a complex reflection, "socializing, re–establishing old friendships and engaging in activities you once enjoyed is an option that intrigues you." This may have been more effective at pushing toward those feelings of why she really wants to be more social. Summaries Only a few summaries were offered throughout the interview and I did not end with a summary like I had intended. The summary that reflected more change talk was, "you had a lot of fun, it made you happy to go out and do things, go to the mountains, go to the bars, go to movies, just hang out with friends, and you're telling me that all changed when you went into grad school and you believe you used that as an excuse to not go out, do I have that right? I gave it back to the client, but did not end on change talk. I should have switched it around, started with acknowledging how Sarah was using grad school as an excuse and then I could have ended on change talk with all the reasons why she enjoyed socializing in the past. Another improvement would have been to use more summaries throughout the conversation. The final summary should have been, "you got to the point where grad school was an excuse not to socialize, but now you are thinking more about how much you value your friendships and ... In the future I hope to be able to use my degree to get a career in either the banking sector or in government. I live in Motherwell with my mum Lorna and the cutest tiger tabby cat called Daisy. My home life has recently changed since in September I will be moving to university halls in Edinburgh, in the next few months I have to learn how to survive on my own for the first time which will be a challenge, especially on the cooking front! I really enjoy kayaking, I was a member of the Scottish Canoe Association for 3 years where I used to tour all of Scotland and compete in marathon and sprint style races. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I really love classic American literature, I recently re–read "To Kill a Mockingbird" in preparation for the release of Harper Lee's new book "Go Set A Watchman", which I am presently reading. My friends used to call me the Batman– not because I love comic book– but because of my obscure hobby of bat surveying and conservation. I was a member of the Clyde Bat Group for a few years. Once I had to give a presentation to people at school about bat conservation in the area. From this they decided that the nickname "The Batman" was apt. A few weeks ago I was running for a train at Glasgow Central Station, my friends and I were running late after they insisted that we should stop to try a bubble tea, anyway we were running to the ticket gate and realised that the thing wasn't working, the man at the gate let some people through manually and I was next. The gate remained open so I just decided that if I didn't run through right then I would miss my train. As I ran through, the gate closed suddenly and forced me to the ground which was embarrassing enough in front of a crowed station but then I realised that the bubble tea was no longer in my hand, it was making it's way in mid air towards a very smartly dressed businessman. He moved just as the bright pink liquid hit the ground. To this day I don't he noticed how close he was to being covered in strawberry pink ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Kayak Catastrophe : Short Story Kayak Catastrophe It was one of those gorgeous summer days. The sun was beaming down on us in 90 degree weather. I, Molly Johnson, and my best friend, Josie, were getting tanned by the powerful rays of the sun. "Hey Molly" Josie said as she was trying to not die of heat. "We should go to the beach." "That's a good idea. I am sweating like a pig and my mom can give us a ride." "Great! Let's go." We jumped out of our seats and ran inside. Once we got inside, we went over to the kitchen to ask my mom. "Whoa girls, you look like you just went for a swim!" "We ran in here because we wanted to ask you something mom. Can we go to the beach?" "Sure! That sounds like a great idea." "Thanks Mom, we will go get dressed!" Josie is also my next door neighbor. While she ran over to her house to get ready, I went upstairs to get dressed. A few minutes later, we went over to Josie's house to pick her up. We only live about ten minutes away from the beach. Once we pulled into the beach parking lot, I spotted a bunch of kayaks. Next to the kayaks there was a sign that read: " Rent a kayak for only $25" "Josie look, we can rent kayaks!" "Wow. I love kayaking." "Mom, can we rent one?" "Sure!" We got out of the car, grabbed the money from my mom and ran over to the kayaks. "Hi, we would like to rent a kayak please." I said, trying to wipe off the sweat dripping down my face. "Of course! Here you go. Don't forget to make sure the life jackets are on properly." "OK, thank you" We said in sync to the nice lady that had gotten our kayaks. We ran into the ocean and sat in the kayak. We had gone pretty far out into the ocean. I could smell the slimy seaweed. The coolness of the ocean water up against my face felt relaxing. I was in my happy place. The sun was shimmering down on us, making the ocean shine, like a sea full of diamonds. Out of the blue, the shimmering of the sun went away, and a dark cloud covered the glowing sun. Ginormous waves started taking over the stillness of the water. The kayak started shaking from left to right. The next thing I knew, Josie and I were in the water, and the kayak was drifting away. We were stuck in the middle of the ocean! "Molly, what are we going to do!" "Um, I don't

  • 10. Notes On Sea Kayaking Force Wind Kayaking When everyone hears the word kayaking they all think about one type of boat and one type of kayaking and they are sea kayaking and a sit on top. Let's talk about sea kayaking before boats and different types of equipment shall we? Sea kayaking to most kayakers is an unknown place. People who kayak don't generally think of going out on the sea. Either because they think that the tides will drag them out or that it is to much work to move your boat, to these people I say that this is absolutely not true and it is no harder to move on the sea than to move on a flowing river. admittedly on a river you don't have big waves but still there is next to no difference in how hard it is to move, and as for the tides unless you irresponsible and decide to go out in gala–force wind, then the only thing you have to think about is the current not the tide. Once you understand all of these variables you can have tons of fun out there after all the sea is the biggest white water centre there is. Away from sea kayaking let's look at some of the other aspects of kayaking. There are many different types of kayaking there is white water kayaking that is all to do with what is basically throwing yourself down the most wildest rivers you can and praying you come out the other end with yourself and all your stuff intact. There is also slalom which is going through gates whilst going down a rapid, and then there is freestyle. Now personally I like freestyle it is not really the kind of ... Complete perfection is impossible; it creates a system that is inherently imperfect causing utopias to turn into dystopias. Dave Eggers' novel The Circle depicts a society where individuals have capitalized on the idea of a technologically controlled world. Mae, the protagonist in the novel slowly becomes an icon of the "digital age." Eggers asserts of the dangers of living in a technological utopian society through the use of character development. After her Kayaking trip, Mae engages in a conversation with Bailey who asks her if she wants to share with the public what she was doing earlier. She replies by saying, "You give them anything you can. If you care about their plight, their suffering, their curiosity, their right to learn and know anything the world contains, you share with them. You share what you have and what you see and what you know. To me, the logic there is undeniable." Egger uses Mae's drastic change into a less private person as the central point in his assertion. Mae's character development explains the changes in a society that is becoming transparent. She was more vigilant with what she made public. Soon, she begins to feed off the Circle's ideas of transparency eventually joining SeeChange. Seechange is a form of program that utilizes small cameras that are worn mostly by politicians and ultimately by Mae. The camera's purpose is to go transparent; to show the public everything. • 12. Grassroots Change: A Personal Community Analysis Being involved in my community and contributing to grassroots change has always been important to me. Over the past five years I have been actively working to get youth involved in outdoor activity and sports. If we fail to foster a love of the outdoors and being active from a young age, getting youth to engage in healthy lifestyle choices for both them and the planet in the future will be infinitely more challenging. My most valuable volunteer contribution to my community came from the years I spent coaching sports for youth. I started as an assistant coach of an under–ten girls team in grade nine, contributing two hours a week. I wanted to be a role model for the young girls and show them that those who play and participate in soccer are not all men. I gained significant leadership skills from this experience, and I enjoyed giving back to a soccer community that had given me so much pleasure as I was growing up. The next year, I continued in my assistant coach role with under–ten girls, coaching for two hours a week. My role was important for the players because I brought a more nurturing, fun–oriented attitude and encouraged strong camaraderie between the girls. This significantly ... • 13. Narrative Essay About Canoeing Canoeing was always something I had wanted to do. Years ago, my family and close friends would go canoeing down the beautiful Cedar River in Osage, but I was always too young to go along. This past summer, while sitting in the shop with my dad and brother, on a hot and humid day, my dad suggested that we should go canoeing down the Upper Iowa River. I jumped up with excitement as I was so happy that I would finally get to go canoeing. When Sunday came around, my mom, dad, Theo, and I headed to Cresco to go on my first little canoeing trip. Before we could just jump in the river with a canoe, we had to register. Upon arriving at the registering table, I could see the long line of anxious kids, like me, and frustrated parents, most likely like mine, standing in line to register. We spent a good twenty minutes standing in the hot rays of the rising sun over the opened, grassy area, near the banks of the river just trying to register to get a canoe. After finally being able to register, my family along with other strangers, piled into a van pulling a rusty rack carrying at least twelve canoes and kayaks each. I wasn't sure our canoes would make it to the river entrance after seeing how they weren't even strapped down as we were flying around curve after curve on a dusty gravel road. All the windows in the van were open making the ride to the entrance a little unpleasant. We could feel the warm, dusty air blowing at us from all directions. After surprisingly arriving ... If you've ever heard this song from Pocahontas, then you know that this part of the song relates to many aspects of life. This song reflects the decision that my best friend and I made this summer. We decided that the week I leave for my Colorado trip, the day before her birthday, we decided that we would spend the whole day together. We paddled right and the water level started getting lower and lower to the point to where the kayaks were so shallow where we were bottoming them out on rocks. The first thing that came to mind was Julia, I think we picked the wrong path. By this time, it was too late to turn back so we had to keep going forward. The kayaks were still getting stuck and wouldn't move anymore so we had to get out and pull them behind us as our bare feet were prodded by the rocks that were as sharp as knives. Our feet were getting stabbed by the rocks and were getting wrapped up in the mosses and weeds. • 24. How Does Dave Eggers Create A Dystopian Society? Utopias tend to capture an idealistic view of a society. However, complete perfection is impossible, it creates a system that is inherently imperfect. Dave Eggers' novel The Circle depicts a society in which individuals have capitalized the idea of a technologically controlled world. Mae, the protagonist in the novel slowly becomes an icon of the "digital age." Eggers asserts the danger of living in a technological dystopian society through the use of character development. In The Circle, Dave Eggers uses Mae's gradual conversion to transparency to illustrate the notion that transparency is inevitable. A society that is succumbing to transparency greatly limits the amount of "humans rights" individuals have. In order for a society to be functional there is a need for privacy. Not everything needs to be shared. There are things that every individual is entitled to keep to him or herself. Eggers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mae, who succumbs to technology, illustrates this idea. Moreover, Eggers concludes the novel with Mae completing the Circle. Mae's disassociation with emotions and everyone close to her also proves Eggers assertion that the digital age will not result in many positive outcomes, on the contrary society will become dependent on technology. This dependency also creates a bridge with other problems such as willingness, totality, and assurance of transparency. More or less transparency has no boundaries between what is acceptable and what is correct to share. While transparency can seem appealing in today's digital age, it comes with baggage. The traditional kayak was born in the Arctic regions of North America, where native tribes such as the Inuit (or Eskimos) used the kayak to get from place to place over water. Kayaks have a characteristically open body, allowing one to three paddlers full ability to sit in the kayak and immerse themselves in the kayak body, or cockpit. To protect the cockpit from filling up with water, Native Americans stretched waterproof fabrics over it, so that rolling the kayak in the water did not let the kayak fill with water and sink, or expel its paddlers. Kayaking is now a sport, and it can be a fun way to enjoy the water. It is also a great way to exercise, considering all the paddling that has to be done. • 40. Life Changing Experience With My Family And My Friend Last summer, I had a life changing experience with my family and my friend Jenny in Oregon. My intention of this vacation was to show Jenny the beautiful Oregon views and spend time with my family who moved there two years ago. We rarely see my aunt and uncle because school and work often get in the way. However, we booked a trip for last August and flew out to spend two weeks with them. I am thankful for this experience because I am now a different person. During the car ride from the airport my uncle asked us what kind of activities we were interested in doing while we were visiting. This was an easy question because during the plane ride, Jenny and I were talking about hiking and kayaking. When we mentioned that we could not wait to go ... I was trying my hardest not to hit anyone as I placed my kayak on to the dirt. While I waited for Jenny to catch up to me, I admired my kayak. The blue and green swirls resembled my eyes and maybe that is why I always chose to use that one. Jenny's kayak was bright yellow and resembled a floating banana. I stared at my kayak in the sparkling blue water. I could not wait any longer to jump in and start paddling, so I climbed in. I double checked that I had my phone in my wristlet under my seat in case my uncle needed to get in touch with me. I could not wait a second longer to be apart of the rafters and paddleboarders effortlessly cruising by. I grabbed my paddle and made my way into the calmness of the river. Every time I paddled, I was splashed by little droplets of water. I loved watching the sunlight reflecting off of the surface. It was a magical and peaceful experience which made me feel like I was in a dream. Little did I know this was about to be a nightmare. When Uncle Glen called after us, he told us that we had an hour and that we needed to return back to this same location. I nodded my head in agreement and felt the heat from the sun on the back of my neck. I made note of how strong the river was flowing and if I wanted to, I could let the river guide me without paddling. I sat back in my seat and felt at peace with the world and relaxed. As Jenny ...
