transforming France
into a liberal system
2. Phases
• The Constitutional
Monarchy(1789-1792)
• It was supported by
the conservative
bourgeoisie
• They wanted to reach
an agreement with
the king and abolish
the Old Regime
3. And the other two phases
• 2- The Democratic
Republic (1792-1794):
• It was stimulated by the
radical bourgeoisie and
some popular sectors.
• They wanted an authentic
democratic transformation
• 3- The Bourgeois
Republic (1794-1799)
• The conservative people
went back to the power
4. The Constitutional Monarchy

• King and Nobility accepted the new
situation
• National Assembly got into France in a
Parliamentary Monarchy
• A Constitution was enacted and it
had the ideals of political liberalism
• Separation of powers,
• National sovereignty
• Legal equality of the citizens
• King had the right to veto
• Indirect suffrage was established based
on census
• To defend their conquests was created
the National Guard
• Church was deprived to solve the
financial crises
• Problems:
• Nobility wanted to go back its
privileges
• The popular sectors were also
disappointed because of reductions of
suffrage
