2. In what ways does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
I have used conventions of a real media
product when considering the MASTHEAD
• Largely centred in the middle of the
page at the top.
• Capitalised and bold so it’s the biggest
and most noticeable text on the front
page.
• In a different colour compared to the
cover lines so it stands out and is
unique to the rest of the page.
The conventions of a real media product of
TEXT FRAMING IMAGE
• The image and text don’t overlap with
one an other and look confusing
• The cover lines don’t cut over the
image and over the face.
The conventions of a real media product of
COVERLINES
• Made eye catching by changing the cover
lines to a different font to what the
masthead is in.
• Also by changing the colour to what the
masthead is so the cover lines stand out
as much as the masthead does.
The conventions of a real media product of COLOUR
SCHEME
• Its is kept consistent throughout the magazine of
burgundy and white which makes it looks
effective and not to messy when the reader goes
to look at it.
The conventions of a real media product of FONTS
• I’ve kept it to a maximum of two different fonts
throughout the front page my of my magazine
as it doesn’t take your attention from specific
aspects on it.
• This makes it look more professional and not to
messy and confusing which would distant your
reader to wanting to pick it up and read it.
The conventions of a real media product of MAIN
IMAGE
• There is only one image on the entire front
page of the magazine as this makes the
magazine look clear and organised.
• The reader can automatically identify where
the cover lines are due to having only one main
image.
3. How did you use new media technologies in the construction
of your media product?
Adobe Photoshop CC 2015
• I set the document type
to International Paper
• I re-positioned the
image so it cuts off
at the hips and
reduces head space
• I changed the
colour of my cover
lines to white
instead of burgundy
QuarkXPress
• I drew a box so I was able
to insert a photograph
• I added a text box so I
could make a masthead
of ‘CONTENTS’
• I changed the colour of
the masthead to
burgundy
4. What are the strengths and weaknesses of both the product
and your use of new media technologies?
Strengths
• The masthead has been
positioned at the top of the
page and in the centre. It is
clear and easily noticeable
• The image is positioned well
and it’s a good medium shot
for a magazine
• The feature of a splash makes
the magazine seem more
realistic
• The colour scheme makes a
good contrast with one
another (white and burgundy)
• The range of fonts makes the
magazine look interesting but
not to messy as it’s a limited
amount
Weaknesses
• There are to many blank
spaces where it could have
been filled by more cover lines
or offers
• The background of the image
hasn't’t been centered with
Maisy in the photo so it looks
unorganized
• The masthead could be seen as
washed out and unnoticeable,
so it could be made bigger
• The splash with the price of
the magazine is sized bigger
than the cover lines which
could lose the readers interest
