Wearepleasedandexcitedtopromoteanew initiative,EU-
GANGS,whichinvolvesarangeofEuropean organisations
working hand in hand to develop the education and
knowledgeofallthoseprofessionalswhoworkwithinthegang
culture.Gangsareprevalentinmostlargecities.
Forprofessionalslikeyouthworkers,teachers,policeand
probation officers,workingwithgangsandgangmembersis
partoftheirjob;forotherslikestaffinlocalgovernment,
socialsecurity and the health service,gangs and their
memberscanaffecttheirworknegatively.Yetcurrentlythere
is no vocational/professionaltraining programme which
providestheknowledge,skillsandcompetencesrequiredfor
anyanyworkersintheprivatepublicorNGOsectorstodealwith
gangsandtheresultingcriminality.
EUGANGS bringstogetherprofessionalsfrom 5 countries
toresearch,developandaccreditatnationallevelineach
country a new vocational / professionalqualification
whichmeetsthecurrentgap/omissioninskills.Itwillbenefit
currentandfuture professionalsworkingwithorlikelyto
workinagangcultureorenvironment.EUGANGSunderpins
thisprogrammeby developinganew“trainingthetrainers”
prprogramme supportedwithatrainer’sguideandresources
toenablethosewithexperienceofworkinginthisfieldtobe
formallyaccreditedandbecometrainers.Learningwillbe
offeredflexiblyonamodularapproachandalsodeliveredand
supportedbye-learning.
