3. OBJECTIVES
• Identify the design technique for energy efficient
building
• Improve occupant health and comfort
• Improve air and water quality
• Conserve the natural resources
4. RELEVANCE OF THE TOPIC
• Reduced energy consumption and water
consumption
• Improved occupant health and productivity
due to improved indoor air quality
• Limited waste generation during construction,
operation and demolition of the building
5. RESOURCE EFFICIENCY
• Maximize the use of recycled materials.
• Minimizing the usage of virgin materials.
• Durable : Long lasting materials should be used.
• Locally available : Building materials , Components, and Systems found locally or
regionally saving energy and resources in transportation to the project site.
• Refurbished, or Remanufactured : Includes saving materials from disposal {
repairing , restoring , or generally improving the appearance , performance , quality
, or value of the product }
• Reusable or Recyclable : Select materials that can me easily dismantled and
reused or recycled at the end of their useful life.
6. ENERGY EFFICIENCY
• Use of eco-friendly refrigerants : Minimizing negative impacts on the ozone
layer.
• Maximizing the use of windows and full-glass exterior walls: covered in
heat-deflecting glaze, to allow natural lighting ,while minimizing the heat
gain.
• Air-conditioners ,fans , pumps & motors installed in the building have an
efficiency equivalent to BEE [Bureau of Energy Efficiency] 3-star rating or
more.
• Use of solar panels
• Power saving methods
7. WATER CONSERVATION
• Recharge ground water table and reduce municipal
water demand through effective rainwater
management[rainwater harvesting system].
• Wastewater treatment and reuse.
• Use the treated wastewater for at least 25% of the
total water required for landscaping , flushing.
8. INDOOR AIR QUALITY
• Low volatile organic compounds :adhesives, paints and
sealants
• Improved indoor air quality to enhance the comfort level of
occupant
• Low or non- toxic :Materials should emit few or no
carcinogens.
• Minimal chemical emissions.
• Moisture resistant
• Healthy maintenance
• Systems and equipment:Product should promote healthy
indoor air quality by identifying indoor air polluntants or
enhancing the air quality
