3. Sound
• When Leonard is in the room and he is
thinking trying to make sense of where
he is we can a voice. This is presents as
a voice from his head and what he is
thinking is read out to the audience.
This makes us empathise him and his
condition as he cannot member
anything
• Voice-over makes the audience
empathise with Leonard and helps to
understand him.
• A consistence heart beat during in the
room creates tension
• Score built in the volume, climaxing to
the title.
• Low tone puts the viewers on the edge
when things are rewinding.
Mise –en scene
• We can see that photography is a very big
part of Leonard’s life as he functions using
them as he cannot remember anything.
• Leonard has scratched on his face, bags
under his arm and has not shaved. This
shows that Leonard does not take care of
himself and he does not groom himself.
• The suit he is wearing shows the audience he
is posh but however when we look closely at
Leonard we can see that it does not fit him
properly and in fact it is very big for him. The
empty hangers in the hotel room show he
has no other change of clothes besides this
one suit.
• When teddy is introduced we can see that he
seems to be a very casual annoying person as
he is chewing very loudly and also he lied to
Leonard about the car being his.
4. Camerawork
• Slow pan of the hotel room
allows the audience to explore
the room and see is what is there
alongside the Leonards mind.
• An over the shoulder shoot has
been used to show teddy’s
emotions before he is shot.
• The structure of the film
symbolises Leonard’s memory.
• There is an extreme close up of
his eye is taken. This is done to
understand the feelings of the
character(Leonard).
Editing
• Footage is rewind in the
beginning foreshadows the
stetting of the film
• Black after the gun shoots
suggests death.
• Black and white has been use
to show different periods of
time.

various places to smoothly go
from one scene to another.
