6. Itâs not fair!!!
â˘As a kid I always felt like my dad
favored my little sister over me
â˘I complained to my mom who said,
7. âThinking life will be fair is
like thinking the Lion wonât
eat you, because you didnât
eat himâŚâ
Mom
8. Itâs not fair!!!
â˘As a kid I always felt like my dad
favored my little sister over me
â˘Mom saidâŚ
â˘God, however, plays no favorites
â˘He doesnât care what color you are,
what parents you had, what
education you have, or how much
money you have or donât have.
â˘Loves the murderer and the
preacher alike
9. âMy brethren, do not hold your faith in our
glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of
personal favoritism. 2 For if a man comes into
your assembly with a gold ring and dressed in
fine clothes, and there also comes in a poor
man in dirty clothes, 3 and you pay special
attention to the one who is wearing the fine
clothes, and say, âYou sit here in a good place,â
and you say to the poor man, âYou stand over
there, or sit down by my footstool,â 4 have you
10. not made distinctions among yourselves, and
become judges with evil motives? 5 Listen, my
beloved brethren: did not God choose the poor
of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the
kingdom which He promised to those who love
Him? 6 But you have dishonored the poor man.
Is it not the rich who oppress you and
personally drag you into court? 7 Do they not
blaspheme the fair name by which you have
been called?
11. 8 If, however, you are fulfilling the royal law
according to the Scripture, âYOU SHALL LOVE
YOUR NEIGHBOR ASYOURSELF,â you are doing well.
9 But if you show partiality, you are committing
sin and are convicted by the law as
transgressors. 10 For whoever keeps the whole
law and yet stumbles in one point, he has
become guilty of all. 11 For He who said, âDO
NOT COMMIT ADULTERY,â also said, âDO NOT
COMMIT MURDER.â Now if you do not commit
12. adultery, but do commit murder, you have
become a transgressor of the law. 12 So speak
and so act as those who are to be judged by
the law of liberty. 13 For judgment will be
merciless to one who has shown no mercy;
mercy triumphs over judgment.â
James 2:1-13, NASB

ârespect of personsâ means on a
Biblical level, 2:1
14. âMy brethren, do not hold your faith

an attitude of personal favoritism.â
James 2:1, NASB
15. A. Cliques in the ChurchâŚ
â˘In this portion, weâll learn what
ârespect of personsâ means on a
Biblical level, 2:1
â˘Jesus taught that the glory of His
church would be in how it loved on
the poor
â˘But some churches had apparently
already become social circles where
the poor were unwanted
16. â27Therefore whoever eats the bread or
drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy
manner, shall be guilty of the body and the
blood of the Lord⌠33 So then, my brethren,
when you come together to eat, wait for one
another. 34 If anyone is hungry, let him eat at
home, so that you will not come together for
judgment.â
1 Corinthians 11:27,33-34, NASB
17. A. Cliques in the ChurchâŚ
â˘Cliques bring division, and Satan will
use them to destroy the church
â˘Deut. 1:17 says, âDo not show partiality in judging;
hear both small and great alike. Do not be afraid of
any man, for judgment belongs to GodâŚâ
â˘Leviticus 19:15 says, âDo not pervert justice; do
not show partiality to the poor or favoritism to the
great, but judge your neighbor fairly.â
18. A. Cliques in the ChurchâŚ
â˘Proverbs 24:23, âThese also are sayings
of the wise:To show partiality in
judging is not goodâŚâ
â˘Acts 10:23 says, âThen Peter began to
speak: âI now realize how true it is that God does
not show favoritism.ââ
â˘God loves the poor, and the rich should too, verses
2-4âŚ
19. â2 For if a man comes into your assembly with a
gold ring and dressed in fine clothes, and there
also comes in a poor man in dirty clothes, 3 and
you pay special attention to the one who is
wearing the fine clothes, and say, âYou sit here
in a good place,â and you say to the poor man,
âYou stand over there, or sit down by my
footstool,â 4 have you not made distinctions
among yourselves, and become judges with evil
motives?â James 2:2-4, NASB
20. A. Cliques in the ChurchâŚ
â˘The word âassemblyâ is the Greek word
for synagogueâ the place you choose
to meet in for worship
â˘We have a tendency to judge a book by its coverâŚ
â˘We also sometimes assume folks are super-
spiritual simply by the way they speak
â˘Both are wrongâ Even Samuel was fooled by
Jesseâs oldest son, by his appearanceâŚ
21. âBut the LORD said to Samuel, âDo not look at
his appearance or at the height of his stature,
because I have rejected him; for God sees not
as man sees, for man looks at the outward
appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.ââ
1 Samuel 16:7, NASB

â˘Reach out to one
anotherâ especially the
shy, lonely, and hurt!
