3. “7Therefore be patient, brethren, until the
coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the
precious produce of the soil, being patient
about it, until it gets the early and late rains.
8You too be patient; strengthen your hearts,
for the coming of the Lord is near. 9 Do not
complain, brethren, against one another, so
that you yourselves may not be judged;
behold, the Judge is standing right at the
door. 10 As an example, brethren, of
4. suffering and patience, take the prophets
who spoke in the name of the Lord. 11We
count those blessed who endured. You have
heard of the endurance of Job and have
seen the outcome of the Lord’s dealings,
that the Lord is full of compassion and is
merciful.”
James 5:7-11, NASB
5. No easy ride…
•Unlike some preachers’ say
theses days, the Bible does
NOT promise an easy ride to
Heaven
•Conversely, Jesus DID promise us an easy
yoke (Matt 11:30); as a matter of fact, He
warned us we’d have trials and tribulation
along the way– Scripture is full of examples
6. “23 Are they servants of Christ?—I speak as if
insane—I more so; in far more labors, in [i]far
more imprisonments, beaten times without
number, often in danger of death. 24 Five
times I received from the Jews thirty-nine
lashes. 25Three times I was beaten with
rods, once I was stoned, three times I was
shipwrecked, a night and a day I have spent
in the deep. 26 I have been on frequent
7. journeys, in dangers from rivers, dangers from
robbers, dangers from my countrymen, dangers
from the Gentiles, dangers in the city, dangers
in the wilderness, dangers on the sea, dangers
among false brethren; 27 I have been in labor and
hardship, through many sleepless nights, in
hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold
and exposure. ”
2 Cor 11:23-27, NASB
8. A. Attack: Permission Granted
•Working for the Kingdom can
be frustrating AND painful

results can seem like eternity
•Vs 7-8
9. “7Therefore be patient, brethren, until the
coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the

about it, until it gets the early and late rains.

10. A. Attack: Permission Granted
•Working for the Kingdom can
be frustrating AND painful

promises us..
11. “Greater is He that is in
me, than he that is in the
world.”
1 John 4:4
12. A. Attack: Permission Granted
•When you decided to follow
Jesus, you put a target on
•The more your desire to serve,
the worse Satan’s attacks
•Even I grow weary of the attack, but this
verse helps
•Galatians 6:9 says, “And let us not grow
weary while doing good, for in due season
we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”
13. B. Standing Firm in Faith
•“Stand firm” is mentioned 22 x
in the Bible– and each time in
connection with faith
•2 Cor 4:18 says, “…while we do
not look at the things which are seen, but
at the things which are not seen. For the
things which are seen are temporary, but
the things which are not seen are
eternal.”
15. “9 Do not complain, brethren, against one
another, so that you yourselves may not be
judged; behold, the Judge is standing right
at the door.”
James 5:9, NASB
16. C. No Grumbling Allowed!
•V9,We have a tendency to gripe and
complain when things go “south”
•Especially when it circumstances
against us seem unfair
•How about when others seem to be
getting away with murder…?
•Remember Luke 6 from a couple weeks
back…
17. “37 “Do not judge, and you will not be
judged; and do not condemn, and you will
not be condemned; pardon, and you will be
pardoned.”
Luke 6:37, NASB

You have heard of the endurance of Job and
have seen the outcome of the Lord’s
dealings, that the Lord is full of compassion
and is merciful.”

22. D. Suffering Saints…
1. Shadrach, Meshach,
and Abednego
2. Daniel
3. Elijah
4. Job,Vs 11—
•Patience of Job is a misnomer– he
persevered, but wasn’t much patient
•But God is merciful, Psalm 103:8
23. Take Home!
•Trust in Him who is mighty and strong,
full of mercy and gentle, immortal,
invisible, the only wise God, whether we
are in good times or bad
•Philippians 4:6 says, “Be anxious for
nothing, but in everything by prayer and
supplication, with thanksgiving, let your
requests be made known to God…” (NIV)
