On National Teacher Day, meet the 2024-25 Kenan Fellows
Modern Rimini
1. MODERN RIMINI
A trip around the modern Rimini, from the promenade to
the city centre, discovering important pieces of art,
architecture and street projects.
2. RIMINI’S
PALACONGRESSi
Rimini’s Palacongressi is one of
the most particular structures in
Rimini, a real masterpiece of
modern architecture, in fact its
framework reminds an UFO. It
has got 39 rooms and it’s an
ecological building: it uses
natural light and renewable
energy. Its function is to host
meetings and important
companies or business parties.
3. THE GRAND
HOTEL
The Grand Hotel is a five star-hotel located in
Rimini. It is known for its elegance, classic style,
and association with the famous Italian
filmmaker, Federico Fellini. It’s the only five-star
hotel in the city, as well as the only hotel on the
coast with its own private beach; for this reason,
it’s very popular during the summer season. It
was opened on July 1, 1908 and continues to
function as a hotel today. In 1994 the Grand
Hotel was recognized as a national monument
and it’s under the protection of the
Superintendent of Fine Arts. The rooms of the
hotel are still decorated with Venetian and
French antiques of the 18th century. The Grand
Hotel has 117 bedrooms, including three royal
suites and nine junior suites. There is also an
other important structure called Residenza
Parco Fellini (of the Grand Hotel) which is
surrounded by maritime pines and it occupies
one of the two twin buildings dating back to
1906.
4. TIBERIUS
BRIDGE’S
ENHANCEMENT
The park near the Tiberio bridge, one of
the most important structures of Rimini,
was restored to safeguard and enhance
the cultural heritage of the city. For this
reasons the overall project seeks to
make the bridge heart and scene for the
cultural activities of the city. Therefore it
was built a big area overlooking the
bridge called “square on the water” and
a pedestrian promenade made of wood
near the edge of the basin called
promenade on the water.
5. THE PROMENADE
OF RIMINI
In the last few years, the promenade has been
fixed and cleaned up. It’s 1560 meters long and
it stretches from the portocanale to San Martino
square. Some green areas have been added
and the promenade is entirely dedicated to
cyclists and pedestrians. The bike path
separates the 4-stars hotels from the sea, which
is equipped with any comforts. The tract near
Roma square is full of fountains of all types.
There are also a lot of shops and restaurants,
while in the summer it hosts concerts and fairs.
The other tract is quite similar to the old-one .
The promenade ends in San Martino square,
where we can find a globe made of marble
pebbles in different colors.
