ἐκλεκτοι: those who have believed, foreknown of God,
predestined to holiness
Holy: ἁγιοι hagioi: set apart, Ephesians 1:4, Rom 8:29
Beloved: ἀγαπαω agapaō: perfect tense Rom 5:8, 1 Jn 4:9-11
Because of the perfect position you have in Christ, put on
the new man.
6. So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and
beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness,
humility, gentleness and patience; Colossians 3:12
Put on, ἐνδυσασθε aorist, middle, imperative
Aorist imperative implies priority, a command that is
expected to be completed.
Therefore, putting on the “new man” is normative
Christianity
Abide in Christ, submit to the Spirit, live in fellowship with
Him
Put off the old, v. 5, 8 and 9
Stop living for yourself.

beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness,
humility, gentleness and patience; Colossians 3:12
Start living for others; Christ is our example
Philippians 2:1-9
Realize your position, then renew your mind

Humility: 1 Peter 5:5
Gentleness: Fruit of the Spirit Galatians 5:22-23
Patient: “long burning” Colossians 1:11

whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the
Lord forgave you, so also should you Col 3:13
Bearing with one another: ἀνεχομενοι anechomenoi
Forgiving one another: χαριζομενοι charizomenoi

perfect bond of unity. Colossians 3:14

Need to be serving others in love, not for wrong motives,
i.e. our selves.
Our calling, Ephesians 4:1-3
Bond: συνδεσμος syndesmos, ligament (Col 2:19)
Love is the bond that holds the Church together
Perfect: τελειοτητος teleiotētos, mature (Phil 3:12)
