2. INTRODUCTION
Malaysia is one of the multi-ethnic country that can live in
harmony. Among the three major races in Malaysia is Malay,
Chinese and Indian have settled in this land during the 5th
century. In addition, Malaysia is also the air to land about 80
ethnic groups, especially in East Malaysia. Among them include
Baba and Nyonya, Kadazandusun and Iban etc.
4. CULTURE
• Clothes: Baju Melayu, Kebaya, Kurung, Songkok, Kain Pelikat
etc.
• Food: Laksa, Kuih Koci, Buah Melaka, Kuih Lapis, Nasi Lemak
etc.
• Musical Instrument: Kompang, Gong, Rebana, Gambus etc.
• Traditional Game: Congkak, Gasing, Wau etc.
• Festival: Hari Raya Aidrilfitri(Puasa), Hari Raya Haji etc.
• Traditional Dance: Tarian Keris, Tarian Inai, Tarian Piring,
Tarian Lilin etc.
• Religion: Islam.
8. CULTURE
• Clothes: Hanfu, Cheong Sam & Sam fu.
• Food: Kuih Bakul, Kuih Bulan, Pulut Nasi, Dimsum.
• Musical Instrument: Gitar Bulan & Drum.
• Traditional Game: Chess Chinese & Chinese Checkers.
• Festival: Chinese New Year, Chap Goh Mei, Moon Cake Festival.
• Traditional Dance: Tarian Kipas, Tarian Singa & Tarian Payung.
• Religion: Buddha, Taoisme & Kristian.
9. OTHERS (BABA & NYONYA, IBAN &
ETC.)
BABA & NYONYA:
• A group of Chinese descent found in the Straits Settlements in
Malaya (now Malaysia), especially in Malacca.
• They call themselves "Baba" or "Peranakan“
• Their culture comes from the heritage of Chinese tradition and
has elements of influence on Malay culture.
• mixed marriages between Chinese and Malay are the main
reasons why generations later call them "Baba".
10. OTHERS (BABA & NYONYA, IBAN &
ETC.)
IBAN:
• The largest ethnic group in Sarawak.
• Total of 576,000 which is 30% of the total population of
Sarawak.
• Iban people usually occupy the Sungai Saribas valley, the
Skrang River, the Batang Lupar River, and the Rajang River.
• Their tradition is to keep pots, gongs, and jars called ‘tajau’.
• Important festival celebrated by Iban is Gawai Day.
• Ngajat dance is performed in Gawai Day celebration as a sign
of thanks giving in rice harvesting throughout the year.
11. CONCLUSION
• Harmonious relationship that exists among peoples would
strengthen the sovereignty and national development.
• Concept of 1 Malaysia based on the principle of "People First,
Performance Now" also explains that harmonious and
cooperative
relations between the various races are key to a developed
nation.
• Racial understanding can also be nurtured effectively through
education. Pupils need to be aware of the importance of
understanding ethnic relations.
• The implementation of the National Service Training Program
(PLKN) is also capable of harmonizing the people and the
nation.
