Casting Shot
Decisions
Francesca Bjorkegren
Name: Christy Duvenhage
Character: Lucy Gates
Role: Sceptic/scared/nerdy
Reasoning: We have chosen Christy to play Lucy because she fits the role of a
sceptic well; she also looks quite innocent as she wears glasses, which adds to
the characters wardrobe and adds to the typical characters you find in horror
films. The audience will expect this character to die/something bad happen to
her first which will make them feel sympathetic towards her and will be shocked
when she doesn’t.
Name: Alfie Chandler
Character: Josh Rivers
Role: Brother (main)
Reasoning: Alfie came into the audition room looking and feeling confident
which we, the casting directors, immediately loved as we felt he could bring this
to the character of Josh. Josh is the main character in the opening, as the
location is going to be based in his house so he needs an aura of confidence
about him and needs to be fearless which we think Alfie brings to the cast.
Name: George Butler
Character: Will Turner
Role: Jock (fearless)
Reasoning: We have cast George for the role of Will because we think he
looks like a jock, which is what we need for the film. His overall performance in
the audition impressed us a lot also, so we know that he will be good at the job
and being serious. The audience will expect the jock to be not scared and
brave, which he is, this therefore conforms to the codes and conventions of a
paranormal horror which we are trying to keep too making the film recognisable
as a paranormal horror.
Name: George Coates
Character: Paul Dean
Role: Sceptic/scared
Reasoning: George impressed us with his acting skills of being scared, which
is definitely needed in a horror film. We (the casting directors) think that George
looks vulnerable in the costume we plan for him to wear and scared of ghosts
as well which we need him to portray in our opening. We cast George as Paul
because he is going to be scared, similar to the character of Lucy (Christy).
Name: Phoebe Francis
Character: Aria Fitz
Role: Fearless/edgy character
Reasoning: Phoebe has an ‘edgy’ look about her which fits the role of Aria
well. Aria is the character that is confident and really wants to play the Ouija
board. For this we need the character to look cool and fearless which Phoebe
replicates well. In typical paranormal horror films there is always a character
like this so this will follow the codes and conventions nicely, which the audience
will expect and which we are trying to replicate.
Name: Tiffany Duvenhage
Character: Lilly Rivers
Role: Sister (main)
Reasoning: We have chosen Tiffany to play the role of Lilly, the sister,
because she looks innocent and cute, which is the look we are going for. Her
age is also ideal, as we need a younger, cute looking character to play the girl
who gets possessed. The audience will feel sorry for her, as she is so young
and not want anything to happen to her. Furthering this, the audience might
also expect this to happen, as this is the usual convention of a horror film to
have the young, cute girl being possessed.
