2. Initial thoughts
Looking at our character profiles , we decided to first advertise our
available roles. With little feedback we decided to contact certain actors
that we has seen in previous productions that would fit the roles within
our narrative. For example, the role of Ellie we knew we had to look for
a teenage girl with that had acting experience to feel comfortable in
front of the camera to play such a demanding role. Contrastingly with
character Sam , we were looking for an actor that portrayed a nervous
or cautious side simply on the terms because Sam in the initial scenes is
worried of offending or scaring Ellie on the basis she has very little time
left to live. For the role of the father , we were aiming for a man also
with acting experience or at least a confident nature as nerves would
make this role very difficult to play. Furthermore, once we had found an
actor to play the role of Ellie we thought it crucial the actor playing the
father had similar features, like hair colour.
3. Timetable for ‘Sam’ and ‘Ellie’
auditions.
Time (PM) Sam Ellie
15:10 Jacob Lawrence Ellie Weedon
15:30 Hamza Hanif Olivia Bates
15:50 James Smith Ella Robertson
Abi Hoey
16:10 Adam Jones
16:30 Kieran Elliott Abi Hoey
16:50 Lydia Clavin
17:10 Lucy Rushton
We randomly paired the applicants so we could see how they would naturally be able
to perform as a duo.
4. Scene for Sam and Ellie
Audition
On arrival the actors would receive this and a general outline of the plot and intended
scenes therefore they could understand the broader picture and apply this to their
performance.

7. Chosen actors : Ellie Weedon &
Jacob Lawerence.
On the left Ellie Weedon , playing
the role of ‘Ellie’ in our short film.
We came to this decision by Ellie’s
outstanding performance in the
auditions showing real commitment
to the character and also her ability
to work along side Jacob with such
professionalism. Furthermore , Ellie
brings fits within our character
profile. Jacob , seen here on the
right was equally as impressive in
the auditions as he was able to
portray the caution and also down
to earth nature of our intended
character ‘Sam’. Both actors will
now attend a screen test with an
extended version of the audition
script on the 4th November 2015.
8. Timetable for auditions for
Dave McCarthy
For the role of Dave we wanted to see how well the actor could
perform alone as the deterioration of his character is made
apparent through the film via his inability to receive help.
Time (PM) Name
12:00 Jonathan Pickering
12:20 Simon Evans
12:40 Richard Scott
13:00 Robert Lawson
13:20 Joe Carlton
13:40 Liam Peterson
14:00 Shaun Raynor
10. Screen test – Room set up.
The final chosen actors would sit besides each other and converse with the provided scene.
We would instruct them on how to say lines differently and to change their facial
expression or body posture.
