2. Air compressor is a device that converts
power into kinetic energy by the method of air
compression, which when demanded can
release great air bursts. The power is usually
derived from electric motor, diesel engine, or
gasoline engine. Air compressors are popular
and used in different industries for clean, safe
and convenient use of air. The types of air
compressors can be classified on the basis of
either positive displacement or even negative
displacement. Listed below are the types of air
compressor.
Centrifugal Compressors: Not a positive displacement compressor, this
accelerates the air and then use the diffuser to break the air and it uses very high
speed spinning impellers. The air compressor also uses the method of dynamic
compression whereby velocity is used to increase pressure. Centrifugal
compressors have many diffuser combinations and also inter coolers to cool the
air between the stages.
Reciprocating or Piston Compressors: these piston compressors are the most
common ones with positive displacement compressing unit. The powers may
vary from fractional going to extremely high. The air filled in the chamber and
then it reduced the volume of the chamber, thereby creating compression and
thus releasing the energy. The inner components include cylinders, valves,
pistons, crankshafts and housing blocks.
Rotary Sliding Vane Compressors: positive displacement compressor consists of
a rotor, 8 blades and stator. Just like this, oil is injected into the air along the
stator walls in order to cool the air, lubricate the vanes and the bearings. A
3. closure is created between the stator wall and the vanes. Once the rotor turns,
compression is created and the volume rises drastically.
Rotary Screw Compressors: it is work by filling air in the void portion between the
two helical mated screws and their case. If you turned the screws then the
volume decreases, thereby increasing the air pressure. These compressors also
put oil into the bearing and compression area. The mechanism works by
lubricating, cooling and creating a closure between screws and the case wall,
thus reducing the internal leakage.
To operate an air compressor, many air compressor accessories are needed.
Not only do they ensure long lasting usage of the machine, but it also result in
fast recovery, in case of repair. Engine driven compressor controls, air and water
after coolers, battery tray kit, low oil guard, compressor valves, system
controllers, pneumatic tank manifolds, intake filters and silencers, portable air
tank conversion kits, positive displacements blower accessories are some of the
most common accessories for air compressors.
