Production Processes
The BBC radio 1 live lounge is produced by James Clark, he says that Live Lounge
is a big part of what Radio 1 does with live music and that his job includes
collaborating with the music team to identify which artists are suitable to be
booked. The BBC studio manager George Thomas has said that no matter who
the act is they will receive he same level of service. He also feels with this show
the main thing to remember is that the show is an artistic exercise and not a
2. technical one. Therefore he feels it is important to be good at digesting
information such as technical specifications quickly and communicating well.
Another job is mixing the live music session. BBC Radio have said you need to
know the line up before hand or have some sort of communication especiall if it
is a band so you know what you are going to be working with. Another thing is
knowing the equipment however it is the job of the studio manager to say
whether he feels everything is sounding right during sound checks and rehersals.
For the other shows, a team of 14 people get together every Tuesday and listen
to the music and debate what should be added onto a playlist. In order for a song
to be considered it must therefore be played in the playlist meeting.
