2. White Rose Bridge
The highest Lithuania’s pedestrian and bicycle bridge was built in Alytus in
2015, on the remains of former railway bridge piers. It has been registered in
the Book of Lithuanian Records. It is 38.1 m in height and 260 m in length. It
was officially opened on 4 June 2016. The bridge connects two bicycle paths.
3. The Resort Park was founded in a natural pinewood in 1931. Walking paths lead to the Great and the Little
Dailide Lakes that have formed in the wash of the Nemunas River. There one may find a beach, wooden
footbridges, lifeguard station and cycling track.

4. The Youth Park was founded in 1982. A composition of metal plastic sculptures emphasizes its
original character. The park has a fully formed network of cycling and pedestrian tracks, illuminated
paths, two up-to-date playgrounds, areas for roller skating and skateboarding and exercise track.

5. Town Hall Square. Before Town Hall Square came into existence in 1990, the central part of Alytus
town comprised of the triangular Komsomol Square (from 1954) and the Market Square in front of it,
which used to host regular markets. They were surrounded by early 20th-century commercial and
residential houses, most of which were demolished in 1987 when construction of the present Town
Hall began (finished in 1989).

6. The "Angel of Freedom" monument
was built for the first time in 1929 to
commemorate the first decade of
Lithuanian independence.

The monument went through several tests of
nature and history: in 1934 it was struck and
broken down by the lightning (restored after
three years later). Later, in the fifties the Angel
of Freedom was pulled down again for political
reasons. In 1991, the statue was again restored.
7. Historic square of the First Alytus
The historic square of the First Alytus where the first
Town Hall of the town was built in the 16th century.
8. Bridge named after Independence fights officer’s A. Juozapavicius name.
Rebuilt in 1967.The length of the bridge is 195 m, its height – 20 m.

9. The hundreds of years old Alytus Mound
is the witness of the town foundation. It
is a historical and cultural monument
and today there are a group of
sculptures called Ancestors of Alytus
Mound at the bottom of it.
There are lots of legends tell about
the mound itself. One of the legends
is about love and the origin of the
name of the town.

10. It is the newest church,
consecrated in 2001. The
church has a traditional
Scandinavian church
exterior.

12. City Garden
The City Garden was started in 1930. The park is famous for its rose beds. An interwar
fountain with a small basin, where goldfish used to swim and water lilies used to blossom,
has remained to this day. The fountain was meant to represent the Sun and paths stretching
from it – beams of the Sun. The City Garden has 55 species of trees and bushes.
13. Sculpture "Flower"
The first sculpture was created in 1981 to commemorate the 400th Magdeburg
rights anniversary of Alytus city. After the bridge over Nemunas was built, the
new sculpture by V. Kančiauskas was built in 2015 at the location of the old
one.
14. Alytus Museum of Ethnography
The Museum of Ethnography was
founded in 1928 under the
initiative of the local intelligentsia.
More than 100,000 exhibits are
kept there. These historical,
ethnographical and archaeological
antiques were collected to the
museum fund from all the
Southern Lithuania districts. There
are several branches of the
Museum of Ethnography. Free

15. In the square of Alytus town garden stands a
memorial called "Quiet Bell" dedicated for
commemoration of nation's torment. It
gathers all memory symbols of nation's
resistance battles in one place.

The memorial is designed to honour
state prisoners and exiles, partisans of
Dainava district as well as Lithuanian
army rebels of June 22-28, 1941.

Stasys Žirgulis and architect Leonas
Adomkus.
16. Biosphere Reserve Žuvintas is located in
the southern part of the Middle
Lithuanian Lowlands. It represents
approximately 59,000 ha and includes
lakes, wetlands, mires, peatbogs, and
pine tree stands. Its great variety of
habitats and vegetation renders this
location very rich in biodiversity.

site of Lithuania recognized under
UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere (MAB)
Programme and added to the World
Network of Biosphere Reserves (WNBR).
