3. ART NOUVEAU
(LATVIAN SOCIETY HOUSE)
The first building of the Riga Latvian Society (RLS)
was built in 1869, following the project of Janis
Fridrihs Baumanis. In 1897, the building was slightly
enlarged and converted to the design of architect
Konstantins Pekshens. In 1908 this building was
completely burnt down. In October 1908, the
governor of Vidzeme approved the sketch by
architect E.Laube, but in April next year a new
project for architects E.Laube and E.Poles was
approved, after which the building was built.
Construction work was completed and the building
was erected in December 1909. E.Laubem and
E.Polem entrusted the final drafting of the project.

5. CASTLES AND MANOR
(RUNDALES CASTLE)
One of the most significant monuments of
architecture of Latvia, built in the Baroque
style from 1736 to 1768 for the Count of the
Holy Roman Empire - Ernst Johann Biron.
There are 138 rooms on the two floors of the
Anfiladen Palace. Now the castle is used as
a museum and historical place for visits.
7. WOOD
ARCHITECTURE
Unique wooden church located in Daugavpils,
the garrison cemetery in Pogulyanka, it was
erected in honor of Grand Duke Alexander
Nevsky. The Russian Northern Architectural
style church was built without nails in 99 days
in 1897 after the initiative of the Russian army
and Fleet leader Alexander Gelobovsky.

Daugavpils or Dinaburg fortress is a
fortification structure located on both coasts of
the Daugava river (Western Dvina) in the city of
Daugavpils, Latvia. A monument of urban
planning and architecture of national
significance, nominated for the status of the
UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Center is a
multifunctional cultural, art and educational
institution of the Daugavpils municipality,
which houses several original paintings by
Mark Rothko. It is arranged in the arsenal
building of Daugavpils fortress.
10. CHURCH
(AGLONA BASILICA)
Aglona Basilica (Latvian Aglona basilica) is a
Catholic church in Latvia. It is located in the
village of Aglona, in the eastern part of the
country, between the cities of Daugavpils and
Rezekne. The only temple in Latvia with the
status of small basilica.
On September 9, 1993, Pope John Paul II
attended the visit to Aglona and served the
Pontifical Mass at the newly built consecrated
square, which involved about 380,000
pilgrims.The most significant holiday of the
Aglona Basilica is the day of the Ascension of
Our Lady on August 15, when more than
150,000 pilgrims arrive annually here.
