Eminem Biography Essay
Page 1 Who is Eminem? Eminem is a rapper from Detroit, Michigan. He has 15 Grammy Awards and counting. He had a very hard life from moving
from place to place and never had a fatherly figure in his life. His genre in music is Hip–Hop and R&B. He was discovered from the underground by
Dr. Dre himself. Eminem became a hit. His life story is tough, his music explains feelings, joins a group called D12, and struggled with addiction.
Marshall Mathers III's (Eminem's) life beat him to the ground but soon, he became a worldwide known rapper. Marshall Mathers III was born on
October 17,1972 in St. Joseph, Missouri. While Marshall was just an infant, his father abandoned the family. Deborah Mathers raised Marshall as they

The missing dad and the horrid mother, he doesn't want her to have that life ("Mockingbird"). Like a Toy Soldier, "There used to be a time when
you could just say a rhyme and wouldn't have to worry about one of your people dyin' but now it's elevated cause once you put someone's kid in it the

Then, his daughter's name was mentioned in a song and he didn't like it too much and basically exploded over it ("Like a Toy Soldier"). Marshall
(Eminem) released many albums in his lifespan. Here are some that were released in order: The Slim Shady LP was released in 1999; The Marshall

Eminems Controversial Lyrics Essay
The average rapper wouldn't be able to grace the pages of Rap Pages, VIBE, Spin, The Source, URB and Stress and go on a national tour months
before their major label debut album is released. Then again Eminem isn't the average rapper.
Marshall Bruce Mathers a.k.a. Eminem. Born October 17, 1972, grew up in Kansas City. From there he began his career as an individual white
rapper. Not many white people are able to succeed in the rap industry, but Eminem has proved everyone wrong. He is now one of the most talked
about persons on the earth. His lyrics offend some people, this sparks controversy and censorship. His lyrics containing things such as drugs, alcohol,
death, homosexuals, sex and suicide. In some of his songs he includes lyrical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next album was worse. The critics had lots to complain about and still are complaining. In my eyes being an Eminem fan, I liked it. But some
people didn't see it my way.
Not long ago Eminem was in court for gun charges. He hit somebody over the head with a gun because he was hitting on his wife, Kim Mathers.
Eminem was fined thousands of dollars, put on a good behaviour bond and monthly drug tests. So to stay out of trouble Eminem gathered a few of
his unsigned rapper friends to create a rap group. This forming D12 a.k.a. Dirty Dozen. Eminem and D12 recently released a single called "S**t On
You." This song is about the critics continuously harassing Eminem about him and his lyrics. Eminem explains he is sick of it and doesn't care who
you are or who you know he will s**t on you.
Groups of anti Eminem protestors are trying to have him band from television and radio. They are also trying to get his record company, Interscope
records, to stop him from producing any more records. Eminem isn't really bothered by this. In an interview with Channel V he said "I'm not alone in
the way I feel, I believe that a lot of people can relate to my stuff, whether white, black, it doesn't matter. Everybody has been through some stuff,
whether drastic or not drastic. This is how I

Reviving Opheli Saving The Selves Of Adolescent Girls
While reading Mary Pipher's, "Reviving Ophelia: Saving the Selves of Adolescent Girls" and Dan Kindlon and Michael Thompson's, "Raising Cain:
Protecting the Emotional Life of Boys," I got a better understanding of the mindsets of teenagers in todays society. I learned that countless girls and
boys have the same inner battles and do not even realize it. The two songs I chose that best represent ideas of woman and manhood are "Unpretty," by
TLC and "Stan," by Eminem. I believe these songs support many of the stereotypes portrayed in both of the class readings and hold strong messages
that can impact the views of girls and boys alike. They address many struggles that teenagers today may be going through but afraid of speaking about
openly.
In Reviving Ophelia, Pipher takes us into the minds of teenage girls and evaluates the ordinary troubles they encounter. She explains how girls tend to
let the opinions of others influence their interests and appearance. They visualize how others perceive them and based on this, they form a
self–perception. This perception can either be a positive or negative one. Generally if a girl establishes a negative self–perception, they have an urge to
alter whom they are to gain approval. They crave acceptance from others so much that they usually through great lengths to get it. The problem is that
many girls don't accept themselves for whom they are and "Unpretty" speaks to those girls in particular. The song is by the popular 90's R&B group

Eminem: The Doors He Opened and The Doors Which Still Remain Closed Turn on the radio in 1990 and you won't hear a song by NWA, Ice
Cube, or Snoop Dogg playing as the number one song in America, no, that title belonged to Vanilla Ice with his hit single "Ice, Ice Baby". White
rap artists, such as Vanilla Ice or the Beastie Boys, contributed a lot to rap during the late 80s and 90s, but that all changed in 1999 when Vanilla Ice
was the subject of a music scandal that destroyed the then current white rappers and seemed to destroy any white rapper's ability to go mainstream
again. This race barrier would be broken, though, by some skimpy white kid who lived on the wrong side ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
White rap artist like Mac Miller, Hoodie Allen, Action Bronson, Macklemore and G–Eazy have all been able to secure a foothold within the industry
thanks to the many doors which Eminem opened for them. While many opportunities have been given to white rappers, and while it is true that they
are becoming more popular as more white artist enter the mainstream world, there is still no doubt that white rappers are almost always at a
disadvantage. Ever since the industry acknowledged in 1991 that white, suburban teenagers consume 80 percent of all hip–hop, mainstream rap
culture's emphasis on characteristics appealing to white men has resulted in the gentrification of the genre. In order to make money, hip–hop shifted
from its earlier focus, mainly political and social commentary to its more current form, emphasizing sexuality and violence, because that stimulates
white listeners. This sexuality and violence was exactly what Eminem was able to capture, but is what many white rappers are struggling to capture
today. The hip–hop industry has been forced to adapt to the tastes of a wealthy, white population of fans that adore its music by creating music
characterized by carefully enunciated flow, catchy beats, and relatable stories. As a consequence of this shift in the way current rap and hip–hop has
been presented, white

The Rap-Hip-Hop Song Of Eminem Like Toy Soldiers
Like Toy Soldiers
Like Toy Soldiers is a rap song that came out in 2004, and is considered one of the best songs Eminem, or by his birth name Marshall Mathers, has ever
produced, and is still popular for fans of the genre today. It is regarded as having some of the most heavy–handed material, as he speaks of various
conflicts between different artists and groups within the rap scene. Eminem's Like Toy Soldiersis a rap/hip–hop song with strong lyrics that give life
advice to any person listening, and for this reason, everyone should listen to it as it is a powerful song with genuinely meaningful lyrics. One point
that Mathers makes is how he shouldn't need to bring his crew in battles that he can handle himself, showing that leaders need to be able to handle
themselves when needed. He also mentions how he never got into the rap–hip/hop scene for the drama between artists, when he talks about this he is
displaying how people should get involved in something with a desire for that action, not for conflicts with others to draw in drama with. Marshall
also talks about how he was told to avoid what wasn't his business, even though it was hurting someone who he was close with, which signifies a
great amount of restraint when needed. Some people would argue that a leader bringing others in to help with confrontation is always favorable, as
there is no reason for a task to be kept to one person and make it more difficult for them. This assumption is a misguided thought that

Marshall Bruce Mathers III (born October 17, 1972), better known by his stage name Eminem,[1] is an American rapper, record producer and actor
from Detroit, Michigan. Having sold seventy million albums worldwide,[2] Eminem is one of the highest–selling musicians of the early 2000s and one
of the highest–selling rap artists of all time.[2] Eminem was discovered by rapper and producer, Dr. Dre. When Dr. Dre first heard Eminem's mixtape, he
thought Eminem was black.[3] Dr. Dre later signed Eminem to his record label, Aftermath Entertainment.
Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney has praised Mathers for his "verbal energy" and for arousing popular interest in poetry and lyrics.[4] Eminem is

Difference" from Dr. Dre's album 2001, "Bitch Please II" from the Marshall Mathers LP, "Say What You Say" from The Eminem Show and "Encore
/Curtains Down" from Encore.
The Marshall Mathers LP was released in May 2000, and quickly sold two million copies. It was Eminem's fastest selling album to date.[16] The
first single released from the album, "The Real Slim Shady", was a success and created some buzz by insulting celebrities and making dubious
claims about them; he implies, among other things, that Christina Aguilera performed oral sex on Fred Durst (of Limp Bizkit) and Carson Daly
(of MTV's Total Request Live)[17]. In his second single, "The Way I Am", he reveals to his fans the pressures from his record company to top "My
Name Is" and sell more records. Eminem had parodied shock rocker Marilyn Manson in the video "My Name Is", the artists are now on good terms.
They have performed a remix of the song "The Way I Am" together in concert.[18] In the third single, "Stan" (which samples Dido's "Thank You"),
Eminem attempts to deal with his new–found fame, taking on the perspective of a deranged fan who kills himself and his pregnant girlfriend,
mirroring "'97 Bonnie & Clyde" on The Slim Shady LP. It was named as the third greatest rap song of all time in a list compiled by Q Magazine,[19]

Eminem Evaluation
Evaluation of Marshall Bruce Mathers the third also know as Eminem after being arrested for carrying a concealed weapon without a license and
assault with a deadly weapon. The night in question is June 4th 2000 in Michigan at the Hard Rocks Cafe. Eminem became aggravated after
witnessing his wife Kim Mathers kissing another man by the name of John Guerra on the cheek. Eminem was taken into custody after the incident and
was later release on bond. (Craughwell, 2011, p. 137) Eminem was abandoned by his father as a newborn and was raised by his mother Debora
Mathers. His mother was unable to hold a job for very long, which forced them to move around to different public housing project during his childhood

In an article by the Rolling Stones, Eminem was asked if he felt that he needed psychotherapy and he stated, "I don't need no shrink. My music is
my shrink" (Bozza, 2015). His vulgar language and the use of drugs are often seen as socially acceptable behaviors and are how Eminem seems to
express his feelings. Eminem shows to be in a narcissistic paradox, he shows high self–esteem by having too much pride to admit that he may need
therapy. While he still doubts his worth due to having a difficult childhood which he only feels comfortable expressing in his music and even by him
creating an alternate persona by the name of Slim Shady. The narcissistic tendencies that Eminem exhibits can relate to his aggression leading him to be
facing two felonies, "As our results generally demonstrate that individuals who scored higher on narcissism had more accepting attitudes towards
violence, this suggests that narcissism also predicts more accepting attitudes towards authoritarian aggression in both males and females." (Blinkhorn,
Lyons, & Almond, 2016). Eminem's aggravation on the night he witnessed his wife kissing another man but also is traced back to when he was in high
school, "While enrolled at Lincoln High School in Warren, Mathers participated in rap freestyle battles–verbal fights in which the goal was to create the
smartest rhymes and the best insults. It was here that Mathers found his voice and was able to

How Did Eminem Influence People's Youth
Despite taste in music, age or nationality, everyone is bound to know the famous rapper, Eminem. Many eagerly awaited his return to the music
industry; while some hoped to never see his name on the charts again. After a long break from the industry, Eminem made his return in 2010, rising to
the top of the charts once again. Critics have claimed his lyrical content is inappropriate and effects the nation's youth negatively, but his fans argue that
he and his 2010 return have been a source of inspiration and encouragement in their lives.

He was criticized for his explicit lyrics and the negative references he made about Kim, his now ex–wife, his mother, and homosexuals to name a few.
Critics claimed he is corrupting the minds of the youth. Even still his talent was undeniable within the rap community. His ability write, rhyme and
flow on the microphone continued to keep the attention of many.
Against all odds, he had succeeded far beyond what the world presumed possible. His personal life was cast into the limelight, as it was the center
of most of his music. Marshall touched on topics many would never rap about. He created an alter ego for himself, known as Slim Shady. He
makes reference to the fast changes in many of his songs, "Ya know, I just don't get it, last year I was nobody, now I am selling records." (Eminem).
The criticism only gave him more to write about, most of the time exaggerating what critics had to say about him. Parents claimed he promoted and
provoked violence in his songs, causing those that listened to his music to become violent. Gay activist protested against him at the 2001 Music
Awards, claiming he was homophobic his lyrics were hateful (Eminem's Grammy Award Outrage, 2001). He had Elton John perform live with him at
the show in order to prove his lyrics were not to always be taken literally.

public, they were sure to

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Infinite 99 By Eminem
Eminem is a rap artist who made his debut in rap with the band D–12 and his first solo rap album Infinite 99'. Eminem is a rap artist who took the rap
world by storm because he spoke his mind. He is a very good rapper and at the time it was predominantly black people who rapped and were
successful so people were surprised when a white rapper was on top of the rap world. He is a very controversial artist with a lot of profanity, and
being so open about societal topics. One of his most controversial songs is "Mosh" it is a song protesting Bush's presidency. This song was
strategically released the October before the 2004 elections. The song was protesting Bush's presidency which include the Iraq war, and Bush's
secrecy. After 9/11 there were a lot of secrets that were being kept from the American people. He also protested the war with some of his lyrics and
called out that troops were being redeployed instantly as they got home to their spouse. He really lets out how he feels about Bush and the Iraq war,
and the secrecy. Most people may just see that his is calling out Pres. Bush in anger but Eminem has a clear meaning and motive for writing the song.
The first conclusion that can be drawn from the lyrics is that Eminem has a deep hatred for former (current during the release) President Bush. This ...

The Artist Who I Am
The artist who I will be focusing on for this assignment is Eminem. I find him interesting because he became really famous around 27 (my current age)
just before the new millennium but is still considered highly popular, relevant and on top of the hip–hop world. His albums consistently go
multi–platinum, even though some were panned by critics and fans alike. I find him to be an interesting story from what I have heard in general. His
personality, drug use, controversies, near–death, and his continued relevance as an artist that appears to value youth into his forties are all points of
interest. Although in today's society, he is viewed as mainstream and widely accepted it wasn't always that way. As a white/Caucasian artist in a
predominately black music culture in the 1990's (Allison, 2002), and following the exposure of Vanilla Ices street life as little more than fabrications
and lies, people were always quick to embrace his music. Early radio interviews that Eminem did with radio DJ's often questioned his legitimacy as a
rapper and his upbringing (Molden, 2005), and with some even going as far as to straight up say he was "acting black". He was apparently often
ridiculed as an early emcee trying to get into the Detroit hip–hop scene as well, struggling to find acceptance.
In turn, I would like to address essay question two because I feel that there are some parallels with my artist. Although it is arguable that Eminem's skin

The Bruce Mathers IIi : Eminem
Marshall Bruce Mathers III, known by his stage name as Eminem, was born on October 17, 1972 in Detroit, Michigan. He is a rapper, songwriter,
record producer and an actor. He has been hugely successful, winning fifteen Grammy Awards, and selling more than 172 million albums world wide,
making him one of the best selling global artists ("Eminem", n.d.). He is well known for his clever wordplay as well as his controversial lyrics and
multiple stage personalities, like Slim Shady and Stan.

His father, who he never really met, left his family when he was very young (Bozza, 2009), so his single mother, Debbie Mathers, raised him.
They were constantly changing homes, and rarely stayed in one for more than a year or two, which makes for a very unstable living condition as a
child. Additionally, he and Debbie fought a lot, and she was said to have a very suspicious and almost paranoid personality by a social worker
("Eminem", n.d.). This could be an indication that Debbie Mathers had a mental illness and that possibly it was passed on to Marshall Mathers. The
other speculation is that Debbie Mathers suffered from Munchhausen's syndrome by proxy, which is a psychological illness and is when the
individual gives fake symptoms of illness and insists that they are sick (Uzabakiriho, 2015). It can also take the form of child abuse, where the mother
(in this case) uses their child's fake sickness to gain attention (Uzabakiriho, 2015).
In his younger years, he also suffered a lot of psychological trauma and loss, as well as some physical trauma. Eminem was also bullied a lot as a
child, suffering a severe head injury by a school bully when he was just 10 years old, which put him in a coma ("Eminem", n.d.). Eminem's music

Argumentative Essay On Eminem
Eminem
Eminem is an iconic figure that millions of people recognize around the world for over decades now. Not only for his music but the pure controversy
that his music includes. Many people see him as a politically incorrect artist who lacks awareness of his word choice which ultimately leads him to
controversy. Throughout my essay, I will give some insight into the life ofEminem, some examples of his controversial lyrics, and the different points
of view people have on him.
Eminem also knows as Marshall Mathers III was a young Caucasian boy raised in Kansas City. He was part of a single–parent household which causes
instability in his childhood. His mother was a drug addict who gives birth to Marshall Mathers in her teenage years, and his father left him at a very
young age. He had to spend time in various locations and then finally he resided in Detroit. Many people in his life said he was a very anti–social
person who had immense difficulty making friendship which also leads him to a child who cannot find his way out of trouble. He said he was
"not interested in school because all he wanted to do was rap" which goes to show he was not a good role model to immolate, Eminem didn't start
his rap career until he was 14. At the beginning, he wasn't seen as a rapper that people should be taken seriously, but over time he had to earn the
respect of his fans and critics. His rap music is often filled with anger and malicious behaviors which also lead him to become a figure in the rap
industry.
As Eminem grew as a rapper, he became the poster boy of controversy with "offensive language towards women, homophobia towards gay, and
crude language". He also a person with a criminal record with multiple gun charges. Even the President of the United States at the time George W.
Bush, describing him "the greatest threat to America's children since polio" which just goes to show how much negative impact that Eminem had on
the viewing public. In one of his most tendentious songs of his career from the song "Kill You" he is noted as saying "You faggots keep egging me
on till I have you at knifepoint, then you beg me to stop? Shut Up!" These lyrics implies his insensitive towards to the Gay community who were

Stan
The song "Stan" was recorded in 1999 by arguably the best rapper of all time; Eminem. The song is based on an obsessive fan named Stanley, but is
referred to as Stan throughout the song. Stan confesses that he is the Eminems biggest fan. This is explained by the numerous letters that Stan has
written to Eminem. The letters are written to the artist and every new letter brings out more obsession of Stans love for Eminem. His obsession
excalates to anger when Eminem fails to communicate back. Each unanswered letter leads to more anger and he gives up writing letters to the artist.
Although he stops writing Eminem letters, he attempts a new form of communication. This new way of communication will not only capture

sound effect of rain pouring in the backgroud, it is a storm that exemplifies the sadness that Stan is living through. Because of this, we realize their is
something seriously wrong in Stans life, this is affliction. Another sound effect is played over and this is Stans pencil scribbling chaotically, as if he's
in need for help. Stan is writing to Eminem emphasizing his commitment as a fan, "I got a room full of your posters and your pictures, man," and

He makes motivational music to influence his fans to not give up and to always thrive for greatness. Eminem has won awards before. He sent a
message to his fans that they can accomplish way much more than what they think. The really surprising thing is that not once has Eminem said the
n–word in his music. That's crazy to me because now and days that's the only thing I hear rappers say. Eminem can be a good role model to
teenagers or adults. How does that make him a good role model? Eminem can be a good role model because he started from living in a crack house
and his mom hating him to living in a huge house now.

The Rapper Eminem Is Not An Easy Task
Eminem's legendary music has inspired and intrigued many people and critics over the years. Even though Eminem became famous at such a young
age, Eminem's path to stardom was not an easy task. Although known for constant controversy, the rapper Eminem is a world renown artist whose
music has influenced and impacted many fans and critics.
On October 17, 1972, a child was born in the deep ghetto of Saint Joseph, Missouri, troubled with a hard life consisting of no father, a druggy mother,
and seemingly alone. This child became one of the most recognized rappers in the world, he is Marshall Bruce Mathers the third (Mattern 1). Over the
years Marshall became close with his uncle (Ronnie Mathers) who inspired him quite much and also introduced him to rap and hip–hop. Only a few
years after Ronnie had introduced Marshall to hip hop, Ronnie committed suicide ("Eminem" Contemporary). This affected Marshall greatly for the

Eminem was born Marshall Mathers III on October 17, 1972 in St. Joseph, Missouri, to Marshall Mathers Jr. and Deborah Mathers. His father
abandoned the family when Marshall was just a baby. His mother raised him by herself. He grew up very poor, going from school to school every
time his mother would get a new job. He didn't have many friends and would constantly get bullied throughout his childhood. He was always fond of
English and would read the dictionary in his spare time just to expand his vocabulary but he still failed the ninth grade three times and ended up
dropping out of high school at 17 years old. As a teenage dropout, Marshall found a way to release his anger and convey his love of language through

Eminem Poetic Devices
At one time or another, every one of us has been the underdog, facing a challenge that does not seem achievable , given a task we're not expecting to
complete, or even racked with self–doubt when we just might succeed. Eminem's "Lose Yourself" is a dramatic, catchy, and inspirational song that
involves plenty of poetic devices. In Eminem's song the poetic devices allusion, rhyme, hyperbole and metaphor are used to advance the theme "you
will succeed if you never give up on your dream". This song was written to motivate anyone to pursue their dream and to never give up no matter what
happens.
First, Eminem uses allusion to help us picture the process of his career in the making. He used this poetic device to help compare himself ... Show more

During the song Lose yourself in the last stanza Eminem wrote "I'm like a snail" comparing himself to being slow like a snail. At that moment
Eminem's career was not flowing how he would have liked it too, everything was going downhill. But Eminem did not stop no matter how hard the
situation was, he did not stop there, he would not stop pushing until his dream became true. The following line says "I've got to formulate a plot/or I
end up in jail or shot". This shows that he definitely does not want to give up, he does not want to end up in a bad situation. He wants to create
himself a plan so that he could have success with his dream and that is what he did. Even though he was stuck and was moving slowly, Eminem stook

Eminem, Music Video Analysis Essay examples
Eminem, "My Name Is" Marshall Mathers, better known as Eminem, is recognized for his work as a rap artist who is able to connect with his audience
through humor and rhythmically dicey lyrics. Eminem's "My Name Is" music video is able signify whiteness and rearticulate race with the use
intertextual editing techniques that parody common representations of whiteness. Eminem is using his "My Name Is" video as an approach to solidify
his style of rapping and thus create new political and cultural authenticities that entice questions of race representation in the 1990's and beyond.

"My Name Is" director, Phillip Atwell, successfully uses intertextual editing to further increase the power of this weapon. Atwell begins the video with
a shot of a rather disgusting, yet true, representation of a white American couple getting set to watch TV. He begins to intertextualize along with setting
a rather fast paced tempo for the video when he cuts to a close–up of the TV and then shows what it is displaying. Atwell artfully shapes the lyrics of
the song by using meaningful parodies mocking the culture of whiteness. The beauty of this video comes not only with the production and performance
of the lyrics, but with the post–production. Atwell shows the audience various TV shows and then cuts in between them to show the disgusting
couple doing disgusting things as if they are the product of the environment that is being created on the TV. The lives of this couple can be viewed as
being the narrative aspect of the video. Atwell also uses techniques to show the channels change back and forth to show that they may appear different
at first, but in reality they are all attempting to exploit a similar topic, the topic of whiteness. There are also instances of a form of graphic match in
Atwell's video when the shot is the TV show and it changes showing the character, Eminem, in the same position on the screen just wearing different
costumes. These instances are used so "the viewer can revel in an interesting edit, in a nice

Marshall Bruce Mathers IIi : The Best Rappers Of All Time...
Marshall Bruce Mathers III, also known as Eminem has to be one of the best rappers of all time. He was ranked number 83 on The Rolling Stones 100

his story than most of us know. Eminem had a rough childhood, struggled with a complicated personal life, and even though his life was imperfect he
rose above creating his successful career.
Marshall Mathers was born on October 17, 1972 in St. Joseph, Missouri. His mother Debbie Nelson Mathers–Briggs was only 15 years old when she
had him. His father, Marshall Bruce Mathers Jr. left Marshall III and his mother when he was 6 months old. Being a single teen mother made
things hard on Debbie and her son. According to Marshall his mother never really had a job. They had gone back and forth living in public housing
systems between Kansas City and Detroit. It was always hard for him to make and keep friends. He was always the outcast, living in tough urban
neighborhoods where he was not kindly welcomed. Marshall was always a target for bullies in school and on the streets. This forced him to live like
a hermit, always locked in his bedroom, living in relative peace.

The Eminem 's Third Single Album
The Eminem's second single album, The Slim Shady Lp, was released in 1999, in the hip hop era of gangster, and the environment of hip hop back
then was mostly ghetto style. The mainstream of hip hop music was African American style and it was dominated by their racial culture. Most hip
hop music in that era was produced for the business purpose, and the hip hop market started to decrease due to the full of similar style of music that
made listeners get tired. That might be the signal of desiring a new style of hip hop from the public, and at that time, Eminem appeared with a new,
fresh, and different style from the previous boring style and it was sensational in the hip hop world. The whole hip hop world faced the turning
point for the new genre, and Eminem was the main leader of the new hip hop era. The white rapper rapped with weird melody, entertaining contents,
and funny music video1. The whole world got shocked by the broken stereotype and people started to follow this sensation. From his appearance,
Eminem became the biggest rap star of the new century, as well as he became a symbol of some political tensions of late 19's. His success apparently
showed the world that "white" can be a rapper with a great fame, and Eminem broke the stereotype that hip hop genre is only under the African
American's world. When Eminem released his album, he and his producers had to deal with the stereotype of his racial identity and they went through

I Am Reviewing Eminem 's Latest Album Marshall Mathers Lp2
I am reviewing Eminem's latest album Marshall Mathers LP2. This album is a revisitation of Marshall Mathers LP. It is rumored to be his final
public work and fortunately for his fans provides closure for some of the themes from MMLP. The song "Bad Guy" in MMLP2 is told from the
perspective of a crazed fan's little brother Michael and it provides closure for the song "Stan" from MMLP. The second track "Parking Lot" is a
continuation from "Criminal" in MMLP. Between the second and third verses of "Criminal" lays a skit about Em robbing a bank and then
"Parking Lot" is a short skit that brings the scene to a close as he runs off with sirens blaring in the background. "Rhyme or reason" is delivered
with his usual hatred as he lets out his demons and raps about, among other things, his father or more accurately his lack of a father. He raps that
his "mother reproduced like a komodo dragon" to illustrate his lack of a father even as early as birth also that his mother served as both a mother
and a father. Komodo dragons have the ability to reproduce asexually. When they do so the result is always a male. Track Four: "So much better"
has a beat similar to "Criminal" from MMLP. It almost has the same effect as if it were the instrumental part of "Criminal" at a slower pace. Em
encapsulates his emotions towards his romantic relationships as well as hip hop in this song. "Survival" featuring Liz Rodrigues of the band New
Royales was debuted by Call of Duty for their multiplayer

However frame of reference can be used in discussing the dispute between Eminem and GLAAD over hate lyrics. Just like the managers and the
employees, Eminem and GLAAD's actions are seen by themselves through this narrow focus that allows groups or individuals to see or perceive the
same situation in completely different ways. Eminem's focus is limited to creating lyrics that will sell him records, no matter how offensive they are.
He claims that his lyrics are not hate–filled and thus are not offensive. This is typical frame of reference behavior. Of course to Eminem, the creator
of these lyrics, they are not going to seem offensive. He is simply viewing the situation through his own eyes, and is forgetting to truly take in to
account those who he is possibly offending. Just like Eminem is viewing the situation one way, GLAAD's own frame of reference is making them
form opinions that do not take into account why Eminem writes these lyrics. GLAAD needs to realize that Eminem is first and foremost a
businessman, whose primary objective is to make money, by selling records. Whether or not the way in which Eminem goes about making his money
is beside the point, while discussing frame of reference. Both Eminem

Rhetorical Analysis Of Eminem Is Right
In "Eminem Is Right" Mary Eberstadt uses Ethos, Pathos, and Kairos effectively to touch on a very talked about topic at the turn of the century.
Eberstadt uses these rhetoric devices to take a different approach on the content of today's music. Ethos is used to connect a relationship between the
themes in the different generation of music, Pathos to look behind the words used in the music, and Kairos gives more strength to the other rhetorical
devices used in the article. Eminem might just be right according to Mary Eberstadt.
Eberstadt uses Ethos effectively to explain the relationship between the themes found in today's music and why it is so popular with teenagers.
Eberstadt states that, "The odd truth about contemporary teenage music–the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She talks about how although music has always romanticized "illicit drug use and alcohol abuse . . .", today's music touches on a more emotional level

having been abandoned personally by the adults supposedly in charge, with consequences ranging from bitter–ness to rage bad, sick, and violent
behavior", a trait the draws attention away from the simpler reason of why a teenager would like a certain type of music and focuses more on the
emotional state of the person. Eberstadt talks about a painful truth, "the emotional downward mobility", where she touches on how parents raise their
kids nowadays (Eberstadt 186). It's a more emotional approach on why teenagers lash out. It makes you ask yourself if Eminem is right? Are the songs
popular just because of the straight–forward lyrics, or because they speak a truth that most people feel guilty about. Eberstadt finishes the article by
saying, "If this spectacle alone doesn't tell us something about the ongoing emotional costs of parent–child separation on today's out–size scale, it's hard
to see what could" and it emphasizes again that this is more than just the words, but a social dilemma that should be taking seriously because there is

Vanilla Iceuses a stereotypical approach to establish credibility from other rappers and his audience. With the use of literary devices, Vanilla Ice
illustrates himself as an MC capable of "cooking [other] MC's like a pound of bacon." This simile comparing other MC's to bacon gives the audience

uses the stereotype that successful rappers constantly have female attention when he claims he has "girlies on standby." However, he insinuates he
is too good for these women after he "just drove by." This implies that he not only has admirers, but it is not worth his time to stop and
acknowledge them. He also makes his music seem desirable by comparing its value to that of drugs, claiming "if [his] rhyme was a drug [he'd] sell it

In the past couple of years I have taken my old poetry books, in diary form with lock and key out of the closet and back to my desk. A relatively new
form of presentation of poetry called Spoken Word has emerged and taken over the media. Spoken word is defined has a form of poetry intended for
an on stage performance yet initially written on paper (Nelson–Atkins.com).The difference between a rap song and a spoken word poem is
presentation. A rap song is more of a story and a spoken word presentation can be more of a lesson. Basically a rap song is a sonnet and spoken
word is free verse. Since the difference is so slight, why do people view rap music and spoken word so whole heartedly different? Should we view
the message of poem or song differently based on the presentation? After a lot of thought and research rap is essentially poetry. (In the Heart of the
Beat 25). A rap song doesn't just give someone a catchy melody to sing along with on the drive home, it has the possibility to be relational. Think
about how hard it is to sometimes just get the words out "hello my name is..." or some other common conversation piece. Compare that to a string of
words that not only make sense, but also rhyme, and send a meaningful message out to thousands of people. It is a true art form. The beauty of rap is

Eminem Biography Essay

  • 1. Eminem Biography Essay Page 1 Who is Eminem? Eminem is a rapper from Detroit, Michigan. He has 15 Grammy Awards and counting. He had a very hard life from moving from place to place and never had a fatherly figure in his life. His genre in music is Hip–Hop and R&B. He was discovered from the underground by Dr. Dre himself. Eminem became a hit. His life story is tough, his music explains feelings, joins a group called D12, and struggled with addiction. Marshall Mathers III's (Eminem's) life beat him to the ground but soon, he became a worldwide known rapper. Marshall Mathers III was born on October 17,1972 in St. Joseph, Missouri. While Marshall was just an infant, his father abandoned the family. Deborah Mathers raised Marshall as they moved frequently from Missouri ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The missing dad and the horrid mother, he doesn't want her to have that life ("Mockingbird"). Like a Toy Soldier, "There used to be a time when you could just say a rhyme and wouldn't have to worry about one of your people dyin' but now it's elevated cause once you put someone's kid in it the s**t gets escalated, it ain't just words no more, is it?" That phrase explains back when you could rap without a worry and not have to deal with death. Then, his daughter's name was mentioned in a song and he didn't like it too much and basically exploded over it ("Like a Toy Soldier"). Marshall (Eminem) released many albums in his lifespan. Here are some that were released in order: The Slim Shady LP was released in 1999; The Marshall Mathers LP was released in 2000; The Eminem show was released in 2002; 8Mile was released in 2002; Encore was released in 2004; Eminem Presents: The Re–up was released in 2006; Relapse was released in 2009; Relapse: Refill was released in 2009; Recovery was released in 2010; and The Marshall Mathers LP2 was released in 2013 ("Shady ... • 2. Eminems Controversial Lyrics Essay The average rapper wouldn't be able to grace the pages of Rap Pages, VIBE, Spin, The Source, URB and Stress and go on a national tour months before their major label debut album is released. Then again Eminem isn't the average rapper. Marshall Bruce Mathers a.k.a. Eminem. Born October 17, 1972, grew up in Kansas City. From there he began his career as an individual white rapper. Not many white people are able to succeed in the rap industry, but Eminem has proved everyone wrong. He is now one of the most talked about persons on the earth. His lyrics offend some people, this sparks controversy and censorship. His lyrics containing things such as drugs, alcohol, death, homosexuals, sex and suicide. In some of his songs he includes lyrical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next album was worse. The critics had lots to complain about and still are complaining. In my eyes being an Eminem fan, I liked it. But some people didn't see it my way. Not long ago Eminem was in court for gun charges. He hit somebody over the head with a gun because he was hitting on his wife, Kim Mathers. Eminem was fined thousands of dollars, put on a good behaviour bond and monthly drug tests. So to stay out of trouble Eminem gathered a few of his unsigned rapper friends to create a rap group. This forming D12 a.k.a. Dirty Dozen. Eminem and D12 recently released a single called "S**t On You." This song is about the critics continuously harassing Eminem about him and his lyrics. Eminem explains he is sick of it and doesn't care who you are or who you know he will s**t on you. Groups of anti Eminem protestors are trying to have him band from television and radio. They are also trying to get his record company, Interscope records, to stop him from producing any more records. Eminem isn't really bothered by this. In an interview with Channel V he said "I'm not alone in the way I feel, I believe that a lot of people can relate to my stuff, whether white, black, it doesn't matter. Everybody has been through some stuff, whether drastic or not drastic. This is how I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Reviving Opheli Saving The Selves Of Adolescent Girls While reading Mary Pipher's, "Reviving Ophelia: Saving the Selves of Adolescent Girls" and Dan Kindlon and Michael Thompson's, "Raising Cain: Protecting the Emotional Life of Boys," I got a better understanding of the mindsets of teenagers in todays society. I learned that countless girls and boys have the same inner battles and do not even realize it. The two songs I chose that best represent ideas of woman and manhood are "Unpretty," by TLC and "Stan," by Eminem. I believe these songs support many of the stereotypes portrayed in both of the class readings and hold strong messages that can impact the views of girls and boys alike. They address many struggles that teenagers today may be going through but afraid of speaking about openly. In Reviving Ophelia, Pipher takes us into the minds of teenage girls and evaluates the ordinary troubles they encounter. She explains how girls tend to let the opinions of others influence their interests and appearance. They visualize how others perceive them and based on this, they form a self–perception. This perception can either be a positive or negative one. Generally if a girl establishes a negative self–perception, they have an urge to alter whom they are to gain approval. They crave acceptance from others so much that they usually through great lengths to get it. The problem is that many girls don't accept themselves for whom they are and "Unpretty" speaks to those girls in particular. The song is by the popular 90's R&B group ... Eminem Pros And Cons Yale Lash Dr. Josh Moon SEMN 105 Music and Freedom 22 November 2016 Eminem: The Doors He Opened and The Doors Which Still Remain Closed Turn on the radio in 1990 and you won't hear a song by NWA, Ice Cube, or Snoop Dogg playing as the number one song in America, no, that title belonged to Vanilla Ice with his hit single "Ice, Ice Baby". White rap artists, such as Vanilla Ice or the Beastie Boys, contributed a lot to rap during the late 80s and 90s, but that all changed in 1999 when Vanilla Ice was the subject of a music scandal that destroyed the then current white rappers and seemed to destroy any white rapper's ability to go mainstream again. This race barrier would be broken, though, by some skimpy white kid who lived on the wrong side ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... White rap artist like Mac Miller, Hoodie Allen, Action Bronson, Macklemore and G–Eazy have all been able to secure a foothold within the industry thanks to the many doors which Eminem opened for them. While many opportunities have been given to white rappers, and while it is true that they are becoming more popular as more white artist enter the mainstream world, there is still no doubt that white rappers are almost always at a disadvantage. Ever since the industry acknowledged in 1991 that white, suburban teenagers consume 80 percent of all hip–hop, mainstream rap culture's emphasis on characteristics appealing to white men has resulted in the gentrification of the genre. In order to make money, hip–hop shifted from its earlier focus, mainly political and social commentary to its more current form, emphasizing sexuality and violence, because that stimulates white listeners. This sexuality and violence was exactly what Eminem was able to capture, but is what many white rappers are struggling to capture today. The hip–hop industry has been forced to adapt to the tastes of a wealthy, white population of fans that adore its music by creating music characterized by carefully enunciated flow, catchy beats, and relatable stories. As a consequence of this shift in the way current rap and hip–hop has been presented, white ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Rap-Hip-Hop Song Of Eminem Like Toy Soldiers Like Toy Soldiers Like Toy Soldiers is a rap song that came out in 2004, and is considered one of the best songs Eminem, or by his birth name Marshall Mathers, has ever produced, and is still popular for fans of the genre today. It is regarded as having some of the most heavy–handed material, as he speaks of various conflicts between different artists and groups within the rap scene. Eminem's Like Toy Soldiersis a rap/hip–hop song with strong lyrics that give life advice to any person listening, and for this reason, everyone should listen to it as it is a powerful song with genuinely meaningful lyrics. One point that Mathers makes is how he shouldn't need to bring his crew in battles that he can handle himself, showing that leaders need to be able to handle themselves when needed. He also mentions how he never got into the rap–hip/hop scene for the drama between artists, when he talks about this he is displaying how people should get involved in something with a desire for that action, not for conflicts with others to draw in drama with. Marshall also talks about how he was told to avoid what wasn't his business, even though it was hurting someone who he was close with, which signifies a great amount of restraint when needed. Some people would argue that a leader bringing others in to help with confrontation is always favorable, as there is no reason for a task to be kept to one person and make it more difficult for them. This assumption is a misguided thought that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Having sold seventy million albums worldwide,[2] Eminem is one of the highest–selling musicians of the early 2000s and one of the highest–selling rap artists of all time.[2] Eminem was discovered by rapper and producer, Dr. Dre. When Dr. Dre first heard Eminem's mixtape, he thought Eminem was black.[3] Dr. Dre later signed Eminem to his record label, Aftermath Entertainment. The two label–mates would later collaborate on a line of hit songs, including "Forgot About Dre" and "What's the Difference" from Dr. Dre's album 2001, "Bitch Please II" from the Marshall Mathers LP, "Say What You Say" from The Eminem Show and "Encore /Curtains Down" from Encore. The Marshall Mathers LP was released in May 2000, and quickly sold two million copies. It was Eminem's fastest selling album to date.[16] The first single released from the album, "The Real Slim Shady", was a success and created some buzz by insulting celebrities and making dubious claims about them; he implies, among other things, that Christina Aguilera performed oral sex on Fred Durst (of Limp Bizkit) and Carson Daly (of MTV's Total Request Live)[17]. In his second single, "The Way I Am", he reveals to his fans the pressures from his record company to top "My Name Is" and sell more records. Eminem had parodied shock rocker Marilyn Manson in the video "My Name Is", the artists are now on good terms. They have performed a remix of the song "The Way I Am" together in concert.[18] In the third single, "Stan" (which samples Dido's "Thank You"), Eminem attempts to deal with his new–found fame, taking on the perspective of a deranged fan who kills himself and his pregnant girlfriend, mirroring "'97 Bonnie & Clyde" on The Slim Shady LP. Eminem shows to be in a narcissistic paradox, he shows high self–esteem by having too much pride to admit that he may need therapy. While he still doubts his worth due to having a difficult childhood which he only feels comfortable expressing in his music and even by him creating an alternate persona by the name of Slim Shady. The narcissistic tendencies that Eminem exhibits can relate to his aggression leading him to be facing two felonies, "As our results generally demonstrate that individuals who scored higher on narcissism had more accepting attitudes towards violence, this suggests that narcissism also predicts more accepting attitudes towards authoritarian aggression in both males and females." (Blinkhorn, Lyons, & Almond, 2016). Eminem's aggravation on the night he witnessed his wife kissing another man but also is traced back to when he was in high school, "While enrolled at Lincoln High School in Warren, Mathers participated in rap freestyle battles–verbal fights in which the goal was to create the smartest rhymes and the best insults. • 9. How Did Eminem Influence People's Youth Despite taste in music, age or nationality, everyone is bound to know the famous rapper, Eminem. Many eagerly awaited his return to the music industry; while some hoped to never see his name on the charts again. After a long break from the industry, Eminem made his return in 2010, rising to the top of the charts once again. Critics have claimed his lyrical content is inappropriate and effects the nation's youth negatively, but his fans argue that he and his 2010 return have been a source of inspiration and encouragement in their lives. His ability write, rhyme and flow on the microphone continued to keep the attention of many. Against all odds, he had succeeded far beyond what the world presumed possible. His personal life was cast into the limelight, as it was the center of most of his music. Marshall touched on topics many would never rap about. He created an alter ego for himself, known as Slim Shady. He makes reference to the fast changes in many of his songs, "Ya know, I just don't get it, last year I was nobody, now I am selling records." (Eminem). The criticism only gave him more to write about, most of the time exaggerating what critics had to say about him. Parents claimed he promoted and provoked violence in his songs, causing those that listened to his music to become violent. Gay activist protested against him at the 2001 Music Awards, claiming he was homophobic his lyrics were hateful (Eminem's Grammy Award Outrage, 2001). He had Elton John perform live with him at the show in order to prove his lyrics were not to always be taken literally. • 10. A Rhetorical Analysis Of Infinite 99 By Eminem Eminem is a rap artist who made his debut in rap with the band D–12 and his first solo rap album Infinite 99'. Eminem is a rap artist who took the rap world by storm because he spoke his mind. He is a very good rapper and at the time it was predominantly black people who rapped and were successful so people were surprised when a white rapper was on top of the rap world. He is a very controversial artist with a lot of profanity, and being so open about societal topics. One of his most controversial songs is "Mosh" it is a song protesting Bush's presidency. This song was strategically released the October before the 2004 elections. The song was protesting Bush's presidency which include the Iraq war, and Bush's secrecy. After 9/11 there were a lot of secrets that were being kept from the American people. He also protested the war with some of his lyrics and called out that troops were being redeployed instantly as they got home to their spouse. He really lets out how he feels about Bush and the Iraq war, and the secrecy. Most people may just see that his is calling out Pres. • 11. The Artist Who I Am The artist who I will be focusing on for this assignment is Eminem. I find him interesting because he became really famous around 27 (my current age) just before the new millennium but is still considered highly popular, relevant and on top of the hip–hop world. His albums consistently go multi–platinum, even though some were panned by critics and fans alike. I find him to be an interesting story from what I have heard in general. His personality, drug use, controversies, near–death, and his continued relevance as an artist that appears to value youth into his forties are all points of interest. Although in today's society, he is viewed as mainstream and widely accepted it wasn't always that way. As a white/Caucasian artist in a predominately black music culture in the 1990's (Allison, 2002), and following the exposure of Vanilla Ices street life as little more than fabrications and lies, people were always quick to embrace his music. Early radio interviews that Eminem did with radio DJ's often questioned his legitimacy as a rapper and his upbringing (Molden, 2005), and with some even going as far as to straight up say he was "acting black". He was apparently often ridiculed as an early emcee trying to get into the Detroit hip–hop scene as well, struggling to find acceptance. In turn, I would like to address essay question two because I feel that there are some parallels with my artist. Although it is arguable that Eminem's skin color may have added to his eventual ... Additionally, he and Debbie fought a lot, and she was said to have a very suspicious and almost paranoid personality by a social worker ("Eminem", n.d.). This could be an indication that Debbie Mathers had a mental illness and that possibly it was passed on to Marshall Mathers. The other speculation is that Debbie Mathers suffered from Munchhausen's syndrome by proxy, which is a psychological illness and is when the individual gives fake symptoms of illness and insists that they are sick (Uzabakiriho, 2015). It can also take the form of child abuse, where the mother (in this case) uses their child's fake sickness to gain attention (Uzabakiriho, 2015). Not only for his music but the pure controversy that his music includes. Many people see him as a politically incorrect artist who lacks awareness of his word choice which ultimately leads him to controversy. Throughout my essay, I will give some insight into the life ofEminem, some examples of his controversial lyrics, and the different points of view people have on him. Eminem also knows as Marshall Mathers III was a young Caucasian boy raised in Kansas City. He was part of a single–parent household which causes instability in his childhood. His mother was a drug addict who gives birth to Marshall Mathers in her teenage years, and his father left him at a very young age. He had to spend time in various locations and then finally he resided in Detroit. Many people in his life said he was a very anti–social person who had immense difficulty making friendship which also leads him to a child who cannot find his way out of trouble. He said he was "not interested in school because all he wanted to do was rap" which goes to show he was not a good role model to immolate, Eminem didn't start his rap career until he was 14. At the beginning, he wasn't seen as a rapper that people should be taken seriously, but over time he had to earn the respect of his fans and critics. His rap music is often filled with anger and malicious behaviors which also lead him to become a figure in the rap industry. As Eminem grew as a rapper, he became the poster boy of controversy with "offensive language towards women, homophobia towards gay, and crude language". He also a person with a criminal record with multiple gun charges. Even the President of the United States at the time George W. Bush, describing him "the greatest threat to America's children since polio" which just goes to show how much negative impact that Eminem had on the viewing public. • 29. I Am Reviewing Eminem 's Latest Album Marshall Mathers Lp2 I am reviewing Eminem's latest album Marshall Mathers LP2. This album is a revisitation of Marshall Mathers LP. It is rumored to be his final public work and fortunately for his fans provides closure for some of the themes from MMLP. The song "Bad Guy" in MMLP2 is told from the perspective of a crazed fan's little brother Michael and it provides closure for the song "Stan" from MMLP. The second track "Parking Lot" is a continuation from "Criminal" in MMLP. Between the second and third verses of "Criminal" lays a skit about Em robbing a bank and then "Parking Lot" is a short skit that brings the scene to a close as he runs off with sirens blaring in the background. "Rhyme or reason" is delivered with his usual hatred as he lets out his demons and raps about, among other things, his father or more accurately his lack of a father. He raps that his "mother reproduced like a komodo dragon" to illustrate his lack of a father even as early as birth also that his mother served as both a mother and a father. Komodo dragons have the ability to reproduce asexually. When they do so the result is always a male. Track Four: "So much better" has a beat similar to "Criminal" from MMLP. It almost has the same effect as if it were the instrumental part of "Criminal" at a slower pace. Em encapsulates his emotions towards his romantic relationships as well as hip hop in this song. "Survival" featuring Liz Rodrigues of the band New Royales was debuted by Call of Duty for their multiplayer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Eminem Research Paper The notion of determination has established great importance in my life, as I believe I have achieved success and prosperity in my life through determination. Eminem is a prime example of reaching success via determination. His desire for success is displayed in his renowned hit song "Lose Yourself" released in 2002. Eminem demonstrated his persistence, as he "kept rhyming and stepwritin' the next cypher", although he has "been chewed up, and spit out, and booed off stage." The lyrics suggest that even though he has been brought down by many, he has persevered and continued writing lyrics. He stated that he resides in a "mobile home", and in order to provide a better living condition for his daughter, he decided "success" is his "only option... ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on EMINEM: How Much Damage Can You Do With a Pen EMINEM: How Much Damage Can You Do With a Pen "Damn how much damage can you do with a pen", says rapper Eminem in his song titled, Who Knew. This song is on Eminem's most recent and most controversial album, The Marshall Mathers LP. If it possible for one single quote to sum up my research paper, then this quote does it. There exists an intense and extremely controversial set of circumstances surrounding Eminem and his music. Eminem's lyrics have been intensely criticized lately and have been categorized as hate–filled and inappropriate by many gay organizations. The leading organization in this controversy is the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, more commonly referred to as GLAAD. Their primary focus is to create ... However frame of reference can be used in discussing the dispute between Eminem and GLAAD over hate lyrics. Just like the managers and the employees, Eminem and GLAAD's actions are seen by themselves through this narrow focus that allows groups or individuals to see or perceive the same situation in completely different ways. Eminem's focus is limited to creating lyrics that will sell him records, no matter how offensive they are. He claims that his lyrics are not hate–filled and thus are not offensive. This is typical frame of reference behavior. Of course to Eminem, the creator of these lyrics, they are not going to seem offensive. He is simply viewing the situation through his own eyes, and is forgetting to truly take in to account those who he is possibly offending. Just like Eminem is viewing the situation one way, GLAAD's own frame of reference is making them form opinions that do not take into account why Eminem writes these lyrics. GLAAD needs to realize that Eminem is first and foremost a businessman, whose primary objective is to make money, by selling records. Whether or not the way in which Eminem goes about making his money is beside the point, while discussing frame of reference. Both Eminem ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Eminem worked hard to build his credibility as a white rapper. Just as Gatsby tried to make himself a legitimate partner for Daisy, Eminem tried to make himself legitimate to the rap world. Gatsby and Eminem both felt the constant need to make themselves into completely different people. Both of these characters came from nothing and became unstoppable forces in their worlds. They both wanted cooler names to make them legitimate in the eyes of the world, "at the specific moment that witnessed the beginning of his career" (Fitzgerald 98). Eminem has the spirit of Jay Gatsby because he worked through his struggles and tried his hardest to fit into the rap world. Going from a normal name like Marshall Mathers to Eminem shows his determination to fit into the rap world, "his parents were shiftless and unsuccessful farm people– his imagination had never really accepted them as his parents at all" (Fitzgerald 98). • 34. What Is Eminem? Throughout Rodman's analysis of Eminem, many examples of race are brought to the surface. Eminem is a white man that succeeds in a predominantly colored profession. It was stated in the text that black people make black music, white people make white music; and one dare not cross the line. This principal was clear to everyone except for Eminem. His music is classified as foul, homophobic, and sexist yet people can't get enough of his music. Many people criticize that the younger generations that listen to his music will be negatively affected by listening, but that has been proven false. A large part of his appeal is that he had the nerve to test the color barrier. Eminem's childhood was far from normal. As he grew up in the Detroit ghettos, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It's a more emotional approach on why teenagers lash out. It makes you ask yourself if Eminem is right? Are the songs popular just because of the straight–forward lyrics, or because they speak a truth that most people feel guilty about. Eberstadt finishes the article by saying, "If this spectacle alone doesn't tell us something about the ongoing emotional costs of parent–child separation on today's out–size scale, it's hard to see what could" and it emphasizes again that this is more than just the words, but a social dilemma that should be taking seriously because there is an ever–ending popularity from the lyrics used by many ... I remember the first rap music CD I ever received: 8 Mile by Eminem. The album was released in 2002. I was in 2nd grade but I would listen to it with my brother and his friends, who were a solid eight to ten years older than I was. That Christmas my brothers' best friend gave me my very own copy of the album, but made me promise to not let mom and dad know where I got it from. Spoken word is defined has a form of poetry intended for an on stage performance yet initially written on paper (Nelson–Atkins.com).The difference between a rap song and a spoken word poem is presentation. A rap song is more of a story and a spoken word presentation can be more of a lesson. Basically a rap song is a sonnet and spoken word is free verse. Since the difference is so slight, why do people view rap music and spoken word so whole heartedly different? Should we view the message of poem or song differently based on the presentation? After a lot of thought and research rap is essentially poetry. (In the Heart of the Beat 25). A rap song doesn't just give someone a catchy melody to sing along with on the drive home, it has the possibility to be relational. Think about how hard it is to sometimes just get the words out "hello my name is..." or some other common conversation piece.
