The Importance Of A Central Office That Supports District...
Module 6 Discussion
Discuss the make–up of your central office and the ways roles are delegated in order to have a smooth running central office that supports district
mission and vision.
Our collective mission is 'to nurture and educate our children in accordance with all curriculum standards to prepare them for responsible citizenship
and success in life'. The district's strategic plan was created with the community after holding several meetings with a variety of stakeholders and
demonstrates the community's values as well as integrating 21st century skills into the classroom so students can succeed in a global economy. This
was the first time our district included the community in planning and the Superintendent and Director of Curriculum were new so it was a positive
change. I remember the notices we received via email encouraging teachers to attend, however, many did not because our previous administration was
very bold about punishing those that did not agree with them. Over the past few years, the new central office team has worked hard in trying to build
trust by forming committees, email communications, and surveys that are directly related to our goals. According to the article, "a transformation
strategy is fundamentally about remaking what the people in central offices do– their daily work and relationships with school," (p. VI).
After interviewing many central office personnel, I can conclude that the central office in my district follows a hierarchy as

Christianity Rediscovered By Vincent J. Donovan
Christianity Rediscovered
Chapter One:
In the first chapter of "Christianity Rediscovered" by Vincent J. Donovan he is introducing us to the idea that missionaries now have a poor reputation
due to their history. He says "History has offered the opportunity to deflect and distort the meaning of missionary work in every age". For a long time a
missionary was a person spreading the word of God and after years of doing so we have diminished many different beliefs, practices, cultures and
history. At the time it was thought to be the right thing, to spread out and share the gospel to help people find meaning and acceptance. In today's
age a missionary is a lot of different things, in many cases it is more focused on the health and physical wellbeing of the people. Many people still
share the gospel through missionary work, but in other cases it is more of a material aid. Donovan introduces the book as a voyage of discovery he
wants us to put our normal beliefs aside to see his perspective of living a missionaries life and struggling with the fact of if you are helping or hurting.
Donovan speaks about the missionaries who came to East Africa after they were taken into slavery. The missionaries thought it would be a good idea
to come over and buy the people to save them from harsh lives, so they bought as many as they could. Doing this they also taught them all of their
customs and where forced into Christianity instead of their beliefs ways and cultures. This struck off a

Church Leadership : The Key Community Of People
Relationships hold the keys to success
Church leadership, along with teams that are sent to the mission field should work together in identifying what needs to be done for the particular
community of people. A relevant example of critical caring was in a local church body. The Worship Experience team, made up of a 200+ member
choir, had clearly identified a group within this church community that would care for one another in satisfying common goals, and to accomplish the
task of helping people get through tough times. While there was a general fund of money to help with occasional supermarket gift cards, this critical
care group was charged with building relationships to find out real needs. When an actual couple was having hospital–related illnesses among each
family member, they didn't necessarily need money–rather someone to help clean their house and do much–needed loads of laundry.
Implementing solutions are where most people get stuck. Whether leading by example in a local church choir, or shepherding a mission's team into
Juarez, Mexico takes courage and the willingness to take a risk. All people are capable of changing the world, but before taking that step we need to
start with ourselves and change our own world–pushing past our fears and living toward goals in our lives that are guided by God's purpose. In his
book Wide Awake, Erwin McManus explains what is standing between our future and us. It's fear. Putting our fears to sleep and living 'wide awake' to

Summary: The Local Control Accountability Plan
LCFF, LCAP and Change Agents
The Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) is an integral part of Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) and in California it has been the
golden ticket for many districts. In 2013 Governor Jerry Brown signed LCFF into law changing not only how schools are funded, but it is also
leveling the playing field in California's Public Schools by giving students in lower socio–economic areas equal access while holding schools
accountable by assuring that they perform and show growth annually.
California is in the 3rd year of the LCFF. In the El Monte Union High School District (EMUHSD), the approach to the LCAP process has always been
a collaborative and transparent process. This means from the time the district rolled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But since the board was involved in drafting the new statement their approval should not be that difficult. There have been a lot of changes in the
EMUHSD and I am sure that board members are fully aware of the need for stability. The EMUHSD Vision and Mission statement has not changed
since Nov. 2011; the last time it was revised was in June of 2013. The current LCAP is in alignment with the current vision. When you look at the
district is funding programs and personnel it does ensure that the students are empowered to be ethical productive successful contributing members of
our global society. Echeverria says, "The vision is being financially backed". The district is at 93% unduplicated pupil population, which means that

The Mission Essay
"The Mission" is a motion picture, directed by Roland Joffe in 1986, about a Jesuit mission that is threatened by greed and imperialism in the late
18th century in the Brazilian jungle. Father Gabriel, played by Jeremy Irons, climbs the mountains of Brazil to bring Christianity to the natives. He
is successful and brings about a golden age among them. Mendoza, played by Robert De Niro, a slave trader, kills his brother, Felipe played by
Aidan Quinn, in a fit of rage over a woman named Carlotta, played by Cherie Lunghi. Only Fr. Gabriel's leadership prevents his suicide. Gabriel
brings Mendoza to work at his mission with the natives, and Mendoza finds peace and asks to become a priest. The Church, under pressure, gives the

In this movie, that translates into, how the Portuguese only wanted to gain these lands for profit. Since natives lived there the Portuguese wanted to
gain the land so they could trade slaves there. This was the whole reason Mendoza disregarded his vows and fought against the Portuguese. The other
reason, imperialism, is the policy of extending a nation's authority by territorial acquisition or by the establishment of economic and political
domination over other nations. In this case, the Portuguese wanted to acquire the lands belonging to the natives because of economic reasons.
The major theme of this movie is represented in a quote. This quote is, "The church is the bride of Christ, she is also the cross on which he is daily
crucified." The Bride of Jesus Christ is not a what, it's a who. She is the many membered body of Jesus Christ that is carrying on the Message sent to
her from God, she is the Church. "For the marriage of the Lamb is come, And His wife hath made herself ready."–Revelation 19:7, and "And there
came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew
thee the bride, the Lamb's wife."–Revelation 21:9, are two quotes from the Bible including the word "bride", this bride referred to is the Church.
When we say "it is the cross on which he is daily crucified," to me seems to be talking about the Eucharist and mass. Everyday the

Risk Reduction Plan For A Residential Building
RISK REDUCTION PLAN1
RISK REDUCTION PLAN2
Risk Reduction Plan
In a community risk reduction plan I would choose improper heating of a residential structure as my fire related topic. I would ask the following
groups for their assistance in implementing a plan of community risk reduction from the following stakeholders and partners.
Stakeholders
local government officials homeowner associations the American Red Cross housing authorities commercial property owners, apartment complex
owners utilities; gas, water and electric company
Partners
local hardware stores
Underwriter Laboratories
National Fire Protection Agency other area fire departments
Hospital Burn Center
United Fire
In a community risk reduction plan for a non–fire incident I would choose drowning as a result of negligent supervision.
Stakeholders
homeowner associations local fencing companies local pool companies the water company commercial property owners, apartment complex owners
local government officials
Partners
local hardware stores area hospitals local media area school districts other area fire departments the American Red Cross
To establish a distinction between a stakeholder and a partner I have gathered three references from various websites to establish an identity for each.
A stakeholder: ?A stakeholder is a person such as an employee, customer, or citizen who is involved with an organization, society, etc. and therefore
has responsibilities towards it and an interest in its success? (Cambridge

How Was Mendoza Able To Transcend His Violent Nature
I think that the Jesuits were right in establishing the missions by keeping the real power in their own hands. By keeping the power, they are able to
support the right of the Indians for justice with their lives.
Was the character Mendoza able to transcend his violent nature?
The character Mendoza was able to transcend his violent nature. He was violent at the beginning and killed many people, including his brother. He has
avoided violence ever since he climbed the falls. However, he returned to his violent nature when he decides to protect the mission militarily, which
goes against Father Gabriel's and God's wishes. Ultimately, he was able to transcend his violent nature because he chose to help the native child rather
than initiating the trap on the enemy.
Did he character Mendoza adequately atone for killing his brother?

before he came to the priest. As the priest explains, he sees Mendoza as a coward who runs away from the world and his problems. He tried to run
away of the jealousy of his wife's affair. To avoid confrontation he had to resort to violence and it resulted in his brothers death. He ran away from
this guilt to the church, where he is trying to die from starvation. He first shows determination and willingness to make a change in his life and
obtain absolution for his actions when he attempts to climb the fall with a bundle of weapons. He built a friendship with the natives. He no longer
believed in violence after his brother's death. As opposed to his character who killed natives in the beginning of the movie, the character he is after
his climb could not kill the pig that was in the forest. Although Mendoza continued to kill people after, he did it to defend the natives, which shows he
has grown to care for them. Instead of pulling the trigger at the end, he chose to help the native child. He has stronger morals as he learned to value the

Frankenmuth's Role In Ethiopia
Frederick Wyneken was a German missionary who was working in Michigan and Ohio who first thought of the idea for Frankenmuth. A place for
schools and churches for German immigrants was his idea for this place. However, he and his fellow German Immigrants didn't have enough money to
start such an idea. Therefore, in 1840 he wrote a letter to all the Lutherans in Germany for financial assistance and speaking of the hardships that the
people where facing.
His Letter caught the attention of the Wilhelm Loehe, who is a pastor of several towns in Germany, and because of his strong beliefs and convictions
in the church doctrines, "He organized a mission society, still operating today, and began training teachers and pastors for work in the United... Show

Approximately six miles north of Frankenmuth, lies Frankentrost. It was also founded in 1847 and it was home to 22 families. Loehe may have been
encouraged by the success of the Frankenmuth settlement. His goal wasn't to settle another mission colony. He wanted to have German Lutheran
families live close together in Michigan. To keep houses close together, farms were plotted all along one road. This way was more like more like a
German "dorf" or village. He developed the settlement of Frankenlust. It was settled in 1848, approximately 22 miles north of Frankenmuth. Just like
Frankentrost, this settlement it was built to keep German–Lutheran families close together. The Settlement of Pastors Loehe's fourth colony of
Frankenhilf was developed in 1850. Frankenhilf is known as Richville today. It lies about 9 miles northeast of Frankenmuth. Once the forest was
cleared, citizens of Frankenhilf took up farming. That was not Loehe's original hope for this settlement. He originally hoped Frankenhilf would be an

Machiavelli's Beliefs In The Film, The Mission
The movie, The Mission, begins with Jesuit priest, Father Gabriel, entering the Guarani tribe in South America. Shortly after, he is joined by Rodrigo
Mendoza, a nearby prisoner who has been seeking penance. With the intent of converting the natives to Christianity, they were able to generate a bond
that forces them to protect each other by whatever means necessary. After a treaty transferred their land from Spain to Portugal, Mendoza and Gabriel
become determined to defend the mission, even if they disagreed on the way they would accomplish the complex task. Machiavelli's teaching are
heavily present throughout the film, copiously reflecting his beliefs within each community represented. Macchiavelli created an ideology that

Mission Trip To Brazil
The Word of God contains numerous scriptures pertaining to servitude. The last shall be first, well done my good and faithful servant, and even the
purpose of the Lord's Christ, to serve and give his life a ransom for many. At one point in time or another, we have all had the opportunity to minister
to those weaker, less fortunate, confused, tired and heavy laden, or just people in our path. From the miniscule of helps to the grandeur of provisions,
anything we have done to the least of these, we have done unto our Savior (Matthew 25:40). My pearls of serving others have carried me to the
uttermost parts of the world in the form of mission trips with ample opportunity to share the gospel. Our marching orders known as the great
commission is laid out in Acts, "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be my witnesses both in
Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth." God hollered and I answered, "Here am I, send me Lord." It

We have spent some unbelievable time in Brazil, Nicaragua (X 5), Honduras (X 5), Africa, and Hungary. We are rolling to Mexico this June, and I
am looking forward to serving in Haiti in the very near future. During these trips, my ministry focused on women and children. I have been called
to be a carpenter, painter, roofer, journalist, photographer, teacher, evangelist, pharmacist, concrete mixer, story teller, clown, softball/soccer coach,
and singer to name a few. God called me to be an ambassador for Christ, and He has never failed to be my provision. Any menial task that was my
responsibility, He smiled as I enthusiastically performed my calling. From dodging scorpions and poisonous toads to running from a brood of
chickens, I never had a dull moment on mission with God. My travels began in 1999, and the following pages are stories

Being the Best Missionary to the Indians
A good missionary is one that simply is respected and accepted by the Indians and who has successfully spread the word of God to them. Many
qualities however though play into obtaining this presence. A lot of Europeans that came to the new world did not possess these many qualities to
understand the Indians. As a Jesuit myself who is a part of the New France mission I do know on a first hand basis what it takes to be a good
missionary. As a part of the New France mission I have experienced various encounters with several different Indian nations. I do admit that these
native people are very down to earth and connected with each other very well. The purpose of are mission to New France was to spread the word
of God and our Catholic faith to the natives and convert them. This process is much easier said than it is to actually be done. For one just think
about trying to first communicate with a person who speaks a different language, has no idea who you are, and where you came from. To sum it up
basically trying to talk with an alien from another planet in the skies. This leads me to saying that communication and patience are the top two
qualities that we missionaries have to have to even start to succeed with our mission. Other Frenchmen that came here to the New World to start a
new life do not seem up to par with are communication and patience skills with the natives here. The fact of their skills not up to par with ours is
mainly because as a Jesuit we have been trained

How Gentrification Is Damaging Neighborhoods
Gentrification is damaging neighborhoods because it forcibly displaces the lower income residents on the streets to make room for luxurious more
expensive apartments. The term gentrification means to conform to middle–class taste, which is exactly what is happening to places like the Mission
District, Placita Olvera Street, East Los Angeles, and many more urban areas. Not only are our neighborhoods being gentrified, but also so is our food.
Culture vulture, as defined in Urban Dictionary, means "Someone who steals traits, language and/or fashion from another ethnic or social group in
order to create their own identity." In urban and poor neighborhoods you now see newer condos, stores, and restaurants. Great deals of middle to
high–income people think that they are helping our hoods, and making them safer. There are few hoods that can be improved, but not with rent
increase. The residents who live in these urban hoods already moved there because of cheap rent, so to raise cost on them because hipsters want to
steal their culture is wrong. Theses hoods are not being made safer and nicer, they are being white washed. When hipsters see a place that would look
aesthetically pleasing for them to live, they give their own personalization to something that did not ask to be changed.
Most of these lower–income residents are not only supporting themselves, but their families as well, whereas, the younger and healthier hipsters are
only supporting themselves. Rent increase in one of

Christian Mission Book Review Essay
Christian Mission Book Review Part two begins with David Livingstone, a Scottish missionary, and a professional doctor. He was very interested in
exploration and his main goal was to stop Portuguese and Arab slave trade, he believed in human self–worth. He got his men and his supplies and
started his voyage to Africa to map Africa, he was successful at mapping most of Zambezi. Livingstone was accused of not being a "real"missionary
and he was too political but he always made sure he was working with God in mind. Livingstone died at the age of 60 in 1873 defending the
African's freedom. His people cut out his heart and buried it, the rest of his body was mummified and taken to Westminster Abbey to be buried, as he
wished. A statue was built in his honor with the base reading, "Missionary, Explorer, Liberator". Livingstone is one example of how much political and
economic power a Christian missionary can have. He also encouraged the work of the Jesuits in China. The western power and missionaries have
created bad names for the social/cultural changes or for being connected with colonialism, imperialism, westernity, and modernity mostly by the
missionaries. Some say that Christianity has challenged or strengthened the local power. "Scientific racism" first came up in the 1850s Joseph–Arthur
de Gobineu's book called Essi sur l'inegalite des races humanines. He believed that the African and Asian people could be a part of the Christianreligion

The Cultural And Social Behavior Of A Society
The cultural means relating to the ideas, customs, and social behavior of a society. Therefore, when doing world mission we must be able to relate to
the culture in which we are ministering to. We are not to forget who we are as far as culturally, but we are to have the knowledge of that particular
culture. For example, in Chapter 3 in our textbook, it speaks of Patrick, an English slave who escaped from Ireland and later returned as a missionary.
Being that he "understood the people and their language, their issues, and their ways", served as a channel for the people to easily receive from him.
Being able to relate to a group of people, having the knowledge of that particular group, and being able to understand the group in which you are
ministering to is very essential in doing mission work. You have to be careful how you approach people and when you do be conscious of how you
engage unbelievers. In conclusion, cultural simply refers to relations. On the other hand, this particular question is referring to the negative fallouts
(listed in the text) as results to decisions missionaries have made overtime. Should those missionaries be representatives of all missionaries? In my
opinion, the spread of Christianity, as I refer to as the period of missionary work, has had a major, positive influence on the world in many, many
ways. Some missionaries may be looked upon as bringing about negative change and some are looked upon as bringing about positive change. I
believe it

Transformational Leaders And Its Impact On School Schools
Public school districts in Illinois are facing ever rising challenges from a lack of funding, a shortage of teachers, an ever increasing danger of traumatic
events occurring on school grounds, a decline teacher moral, an increase in at–risk students, and others. During this difficult time it is imperative that
the leaders of districts are providing their stakeholders the leadership necessary to move the district forward in educating all of its students.
Transformational leaders are best suited to deal with the multiple and diverse challenges that face districts.
Transformational leadership was first introduced into our lexicon by James MacGregor Burns, a presidential biographer. Burns believed
transformational leaders were leaders who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

3.Inspirational Motivation represents the leader's ability to inspire their follower through articulating their vision. Followers are challenged with
accountability through high standards while motiving the followers through providing meaning to the difficult tasks they are charged with. This
provides meaning and creates a sense of urgency which leads follower to commit deeply to the task at hand.
4.Idealized Influence represents the leader's ability to be a role model for ethical behavior. Through the leaders ethical decision they build trust and
respect with their followers.
These comments applied to transformational superintendents can be express in many ways. Below you will find a general application of the
components for the school leaders.
Transformational leaders begin with the development of a vision for their district that provides a view of the future that will excite and convert
potential followers.
Transformational leader must find a system that allows the district and stakeholders to move forward. This often involves embracing change and
challenging the status qou. It is important to note that transformational leader will

There are endless things in Africa that are in need of help, and they cannot all be changed by one person. Being a missionary isn't just about the things

Funds are a serious problem in third world countries and the fact is that they just don't have all the money to support your work among them. The
job would not enable supply for a family and keep it going without outside help. Business missionaries have the skills needed to work with people in
and out of country to identify money raising opportunities. In addition, using the skills learned in math classes and accounting class, one would be
able to manage the funds appropriately. Working papers and figuring out expenses can cause long work hours, but these hours do not have to be spent
far from home. Doing work at home and around the kids will show them the amount of effort that is needed to be put into what they have and show
them they have to work hard for the things they want. Being around children is one of the most important things a parent can do with their parenting.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (2014) Fundraisers, a business degree will offer the fundamental information needed for raising money,
researching prospective donors and how to contact them, maintaining funds, and handling the legal side of it all. These skills will dramatically affect
the ability to support a family. Missions work is not something that pays, it is solely based on others donating to your cause. While looking at the two

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Missionary Kid By Tim Stewart
Tim Stewart, creator of the Dictionary of Christianese website, in his article "Missionary Kid (MK)" (2013), argues that missionary kids can either
be little devils or precious angles, but either way they have a unique and diverse upbringing. He supports this claim by first defining a good MK as
someone who practices what the bible teaches (par. 1), then by declaring the bad stereotype of the MK who falters under the pressure and becomes a
rebel or troublemaker (par. 2), finally by showing that MKs grow up surrounded by a different culture than their parent's, which provides many
beneficial circumstances for learning (par. 3–6), while also cultivating issues when returning "home". Steward's purpose in writing this is to educate

The Short Term Mission Trips
Think about the poverty and problems that all countries around the world are facing today and every day. As Americans we have an urge to go into
these countries to help as much as possible because of that we have begun a revolution. Americans began going on mission trips around the 1960s but
did not really pick up until the 1990s. The trend grew after multiple natural disasters, Americans saw and need and went, since then short termmission
trips show no sign stopping anytime soon. As the popularity of leaving our comfort zones, many people have found issues with the way the trips are led
to the extent of questioning whether or not these trips are really worth the amount of money and time that they consume. Through periodicals,
interviews, narratives, and articles, I will show the issues and improvements that could be made to the living situations, attitude of the Americans, and
relationships that are acquired during the short term mission trips.
In October of 1998, Hurricane Mitch slammed onto the coasts of multiple South American countries. Countless people lost their homes, over eleven
thousand people lost their lives, and the hurricane left five billion dollars' worth of damage in its wake ("Hurricane Mitch"). This event caused a
new wave of events also of short term mission trips. Americans seeing the cities torn to shreds decided to act. For a couple of weeks at a time,
different groups would go clean up, rebuild, and show love to the people of these devastated

The Mission Movie Analysis
The movie The Mission brought to light many of the issues that the developing world has faced in the past and continues to face today. The indigenous
people of Paraguay and Southern Brazil, the Guarani, faced terrifying encounters with the powerful European colonizers during the period of European
colonialism. Many innocent people on both sides of the battle lost their lives. The Jesuits were a Christian missionary group that brought the Good
News of Jesus Christ, all the while helping to defend the indigenous people by respecting their culture and human dignity, also referred to as
"inculturation". The Jesuit presence paved the way for later ideas such as liberation theology and the post–colonial theory. The Commonweal article,
"What We Can and Cannot Fix: Rewatching TheMission prompts viewers to reassess the film and notice other possible issues that were related to the
Jesuit's presence.
The Jesuits had a huge presence during the brutal attacks that occurred between the European colonists and the Guarani. The Jesuits always sided with
the indigenous people and worked to protect their safety and human dignity. However, the main goal of the missionary enterprise as stated by Fr.
Gabriel, the leader of the Jesuits, was "to make Christians out of these people." At first, this statement appears to be a genuine act of kindness
attempting o present the Jesuit Christian faith to the Guarani to show them the love and hope that their God could provide to them. However, the

The Mission is about the missionaries in South America in the 18th century, with the main characters being Mendoza and Father Gabriel. Mendoza
evolves from a slave trader to a missionary partnered with Father Gabriel. Their goal is to have a society with the Guarani and not have conflict with
either the Portuguese or Spanish. There are also governors who find them dangerous. Working as opponents, they make it a goal to shut down
missionaries and capture or kill the Guarani. In the end, they are successful and the movie documents the fall of the mission, and the deaths of Mendezo
and Father Gabriel.

inhabited by the Guarani people, demonstrating the significance assimilating the Guarani people meant to the Jesuits. Additionally, the Guarani people
were accurately displayed as a self–sustained society where basic components such as: productivity, protection, justice regulations and a form of a
leader was evident in the form of their King. Nonetheless, the Guarani were an isolated group of individuals who were secluded to the outside world;
their only contact with outside personnelles were slave traders who would put them into forced slavery for personal benefits. Not to mention the "Treaty
of Madrid", which resulted in the social and political disputes between the, Portuguese, Spanish and Catholic community; manifesting in the form of
territorial conflicts and misunderstandings amongst the three vigorous societies, where each have a different purpose for the Guarani people.
The opening scenes in the movie shows a man tied to a cross who is set to float down the river and eventually falls over the robust waterfall. He was a
man sent by the jesuits to assimilate the Guarani people, however his death is unjustified in the movie which leads us to consequently assume that the
Guarani people were at fault for his death. Correspondingly, father Gabriel comes to deliver the message of christianity to the Guarani people and
establish a mission on their land. Most Jesuit missions served as a form of protection for the Guarani natives from slave traders, owing to the fact that
the Jesuit missions had strict regulations about visiting outsiders. By means of enforcement Jesuits only allowed the spanish or Portuguese to spend a
maximum of three days in their community. Nonetheless, Jesuit beliefs were conflicted by the actions of the Portuguese and the spanish that conflicted
with their impact on societal function, coming into the new world. Considering the circumstances the, the Jesuits were compelled to make decisions

Things Fall Apart Analytical Essay
A Christian Missionary is a person who is called by God to preach his word. Their job is to spread to everyone. Mr. Brown is a more effective
Christian Missionary than Reverend Smith. Mr. Brown is willing to make an effort to understand Igbo's beliefs. He didn't try to tell them what

The Mission Journey
In 1986, the film "The Mission" was released. "The Mission" focuses on the journey of Jesuit Priest, Father Gabriel, as he enters South America.
Father Gabriel traveled to the Guarani lands to convert the natives to Christianity. The title of the movie comes into play with the Priest joining
Rodrigo Mendoza, who was a reformed slave trader, on a mission in South America. A treaty is formed between the Spanish and Portuguese that gave
the Spanish territory to be ruled under Portuguese jurisdiction. Father Gabriel and Mendoza take it upon themselves to defend the priest's mission.
Starting in the eighteenth century, the Jesuits began to fall under attack. These attacks occurred because other nations believed the Jesuits had gained
too much power. It was believed that the Jesuits gained power from counseling during confessional, since they were confessors to some of the most
powerful nations in Europe. As the Enlightenment occurred, it came to show that religion and the Church were not helping the progress of the
economy. Because Spain and Portugal were in a political decline, the one goal was to get rid of the Jesuits. With the disagreements between Spain and

In order to preserve the Jesuit's order, the emissary orders the Jesuits to close their mission and give the land to the Portuguese. Since Altamirano
rejected the priest's appeal, Father Gabriel and Mendoza decided to go on the mission to defend it. Altamirano is conflicted in his decisions because
he has to choose the lesser of two evils. If he decides in favor of the colonists, the indigenous peoples will become enslaved; but if he rules in favor of
the missions, the entire Jesuit Order may be condemned by the Portuguese, causing the Church to fall apart as well. In his visits to the missions, he is
amazed at their industry and success. This causes Cardinal Altamirano to become more conflicted in his

The First Half Of Discovering Missions
The first half of Discovering Missions written by Culbertson and Gailey introduce the countless aspects of missions and related terminology in
reference to missions. Throughout the book, the focus is then directed to the important factors that play a part in missions. Chapters eight through
fourteen covers the importance of intercultural communication, volunteerism in mission, development of missionaries, the contrasting philosophies and
strategies of mission, the new contexts from missions, the importance of mobilizing the local church and the changes affecting mission today. From
this reading, I have learned the important factors that have an effect on missions and various ways in which they effect missions.
Intercultural communication is a form of communication that aims to share information across different cultures and social groups. A form of
communication is language. It is often viewed as an important factor in relation to the cultural perspective. The cultural perspective refers to the way
that individuals are shaped by their environments as well as social and cultural factors. It affects how people relate to one another and their ability to
communicate. Language is essential in the study and practice of global mission.
It is of great importance in the study and practice of global mission that we are able to communicate effectively through having the knowledge of
various languages. Being able to effectively communicate enables us to reach those who we are

owners, community residents, and the public, as well as conducting a needs assessment survey (Appendix C), a District Plan is drafted which serves
as a business plan for the BID and is submitted the City Planning Commission for an approval. The District Plan is the most important document in the
process as it includes the services and improvements the BID plans to provide, as well as the first year's budget, and the assessment formula used to
compute the amount each property owner is to pay. SBS recommends that a "BID should revisit their district plan approximately every five years or
when major changes are needed". After the District Plan has been submitted to City Planning Commission, the legislative authorization process follows
legally mandated timeline and can take from nine to twelve months to complete. At the end the City Council adopts the BID Local Law and the Mayor
signs it.

The Mission: A Misrepresentation Of History
A Misrepresentation of History
The Mission was filmed in 1986, was directed by Roland JoffГ© and written by Robert Bolt. The film, set in the year 1758, depicts the story of the
building of the missionaries in South America. The film stars an award–winning cast and most of the filming locations are historically accurate (e.g.,
Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil). However, the movie presents an unrealistic portrayal of the three main groups, those groups being the native
GuaranГs, the Jesuits and the Catholic Church (represented by the Cardinal). In the film, the GuaranГs are ready to abandon their beliefs when father
Gabriel and the Jesuits arrive. At the same time, the Jesuits are portrayed as gentle, peaceful men who care about the GuaranГs, ... Show more content

The next time we see the natives come in contact with a Jesuit it is when Father Gabriel makes his way over the falls into their land and begins
playing his music. The GuaranГ in the film are seemingly enchanted with the music father Gabriel plays from his oboe, so much so that they don't kill
him and they accept him. Realistically, this wouldn't make the natives accept the missionaries (p. 397). The natives only welcomed the Jesuits for their
iron tools (e.g, hatchets, machetes, knives) and their protection (p. 395). The GuaranГ in the film are portrayed as typical Hollywood natives, most of
the men are covered with paint and the women are half nude. In the film the Jesuits seem to be fine with this female nudity but logically, real Jesuits
wouldn't have accepted this display of sexuality and would have seen it as a lack of modesty (p. 400). One of the most nonsensical things about the
native characters is their blind acceptance of Christianity. In truth, most GuaranГs rejected Christianity for several decades (p. 400). The GuaranГ are
also referred to as free in the film, father Gabriel states that "they come to us of their own free will" when in certainty natives weren't free in real
missionaries and were even subject to beatings (p. 402–403). The combination of these things is what makes the GuaranГ in the film appear as
incapable of protecting themselves, inferior to the

The Mission Movie Essay
The movie "The Mission" takes place during the Jesuit Reduction, which was a program that set up Jesuit missionaries to teach Christianity to the
natives. It tells a story of Father Gabriel ,a Spanish Jesuit priest, who goes on to a quest to the South America Jungle to convert the community of
Guarani Indians to Christians. The film starts off by Father Gabriel making a journey to the Guarani community. Once, he reaches the tribe they
prepare to kill him but spare his life because he plays an beautiful solo on his oboe. After a while Father Gabriel gains their trust and is accepted into
their tribe. On the other hand, Rodrigo Mendoza, a mercenary and slaver, catches his younger half–brother Felipe and his fiancee sleeping together.

After the constant dragging, falling, and struggling carrying the heavy sac, Rodrigo and the Jesuits reach their destination and the natives cut away the
heavy bundle away from Rodrigo. Accepted by the Guarani, Rodrigo is given a Bible and helps the mission. In addition, he vows and becomes a Jesuit
under Father Gabriel and Fielding. The Jesuit mission was safe under the Spanish law but the 1750 Treaty of Madrid, reassign the land in South
America to the Portuguese. Since, the portuguese law allows slavery, they wanted to enslave the Guarani. The Jesuits mission was upset and fought for
the Guarani. As a result, Papal emissary Cardinal Altamirano, a former Jesuit priest, came to the Jesuits mission in South America and observed them
to make a decision. Constantly under pressure and stress, from Cabeza and the Portuguese Governor, Don Hontar, Cardinal Altamirano is forced to
choose between two options: rule in favor of the Portuguese or the Jesuit mission. Cardinal Altamirano chose in favor of the Portuguese and instructed
the Guarani to leave or be

A Summary Of The Movie The Mission
The 1986 film The Mission depicts the relation of the Jesuits as a type of enlightening force for the Guarani people, that is able to organized theses
people in way that was not before possible. The representation of the priest as these great liberators of knowledge by the movie is flattery, the natives
where indeed capable of organizing themselves as a society that the films choses to ignore. The Guarani where not the pure molds that the movie
presents, they contained there own original and optioned ideas on how society works after contact with the Jesuits and in the missions, a notable
example of their ideas can be seen in religion. The natives are shown throughout the film of having weak constitution to their traditional spirituality,
and this was not the cause in history. My argument is, the Guarini where not the passive molds for Christianity presented in the film, but where actually
relatively organized in them believes of spirituality and held strong options on the subject. Supporting the argument against the films take will include:
Ruiz de Montoya's The Spiritual Conquest, a primary source form the prospective of a Jesuit priest during the time of The Mission; James Schofield
Seager's The Mission and Historical Missions: Film and the Writing of History, focuses on the historical issues riddled within the film; and lecture
notes form Dr. Austin, discussing the actuality of what occurred in during the time period of The Mission. A scene in the film worthy to focus

Mission District Gentrification
Over the past twenty years, San Francisco's Mission District has experienced a tremendous amount of change. Similar to many neighborhoods across
the United States, it has been undergoing a gentrification process in which increases in housing prices, redevelopment in buildings, and a shortage of
rental units have left many of its low–income population homeless or on the verge of becoming homeless. In order to understand the controversial
issue revolving around the gentrification process taking place the Mission District, it is essential to know the history of the Mission District, San
Francisco's geography and housing laws, and the socioeconomic impacts of gentrification. Gentrification is a relatively new process to describe the
dynamics of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this process was not visible in the Mission District until the late 1990s. The current situation and conflicts of gentrification have risen as a
result of the dot–com boom during the 1990's to 2000's, where many professionals in the computer, marketing, and business industry moved into San
Francisco, changing the social landscape of the city, as once poorer neighborhoods were slowly replaced by wealthy young individuals ("To Whom
Does"). The Mission District was not always like this. Originally home to the Ohlone, the Spanish colonized and established missionaries in the
Mission in 1776, and founded Mission San Francisco de Asis, now known as Mission Dolores ("To Whom Does"). In its earliest days, the Mission
District was a mixed neighborhood of Eastern European, Irish, Swedish, and German immigrants. It wasn't until the 1906 earthquake and fire that the
once predominantly European neighborhood began to transform. The Mission District was one of the few neighborhoods that was not destroyed
during the natural disasters; however, 250,000 residents who had lived in the affected areas, such as North Beach and the Financial District, were
forced to relocate. Many of them moved into the Mission as it remained mainly intact, which turned the area into a low–income, working–class, Irish
and Italian neighborhood. Then, in the 1940's through late 50's, the first influx of Latino immigration came about as a result of the war industry's need
for labor. Many Latino immigrants were attracted to the tight knit Catholic environment that the Irish and Italian immigrants had created; but as soon
as they came, most of the European immigrants fled to the suburbs, making the Mission the home of the new Latino immigrants. The Latino identity in
the Mission District was further strengthened during the second influx of immigration during the 1980's, as many Central Americans

My Mission Trip From The United States
I have never known a time in my life where I have not gone to church. With that being said, it's not my largest priority. I tend to get distracted during
the school year with deadlines and hanging out with friends. It's when I'm able to go on a mission trip that I can truly show and see what I believe in.
I have been on four mission trips altogether and this summer I took a leap of faith and left the country for the first time to serve. Nicaragua held the
same focuses as trips in the United States, but what I consider a mission trip from my experience in the past was not what this trip had in store. My
first mission trip was five years ago when I was in eighth grade. Both my sisters and brother had gone on various mission trips and the one to
Detroit was my first opportunity. On that trip we worked on fixing up a couple churches that held youth group events. My team and I weeded,
painted, planted flowers, organized and cleaned the churches different offices and activity rooms during the first couple days of the week long
trip, the second half of the week, my team and I consisting of middle schoolers, put on a day camp for the kids around the area to play games, do
crafts, eat lunch, listen to worship music and a message. It was a great experience because the adults gave the responsibility of leading the camp to us
kids. As far as cultural differences, they were mild as Detroit is only a few hours away. The housing many families were living in was not to the standard

The Mission Station Of Spain
The main theme of the story in the mission is about a group of Jesuits who established a mission station around the borderland of Argentina, Paraguay
and Brazil around 1750. Meanwhile, they converted the local Indians to Christianity. At the end, Cardinal Altamirano ordered Jesuits to leave the
mission. Without the protection of the church, the local Indians were killed or slaved by Portuguese. The script of the movie was written from a real
historic event in 1754–1756, the Guarani War, which Guarani communities defend their homeland against Spanish–Portuguese for almost three years.
The fuse of the war was ignited by the Treaty of Madrid in 1750, which was signed by the king of Spain and Portugal to completely determine the
border between Spain and Portugal in South America by the area around Uruguay river. Around that time, the Jesuit mission stations and the local
Indians were growing rapidly both economically and regionally with their outstanding plantations, which was much better than those in Portugal's own
territory. As a consequence, the Portuguese wanted to take over control the land and slave the Indians. They forced theCatholic church to dissemble
their mission station and did the massacre right after they leaved. The paradigm that director used was carefully selected. The story of the movie was
told from a vision of Cardinal Altamirano, who was writing a letter to the pop for explaining what had happened. Within the story, the two main
narratives were not on

The United Methodist Church
The United Methodist Church is growing and it is happening in nontraditional areas. Between 2005 and 2013 outreach ministries connected the UMC
with diverse communities and created over 130,000 new disciples in His image. Outreach ministries believe in providing sustenance to who are without
basic needs and envision a day without want. On this foundation, missionaries built programs and create an opportunity for growth. Through ministry,
the UMC continues to provide support and generosity to those who need help, while transforming missionaries' actions into disciples across the globe.
UMC apportionments equip ministries and change the world.
The state of giving within The United Methodist Church has increased over the last decade. With the rise in consumer confidence, United Methodist
congregations are healthier than almost a decade ago. The recession hurt everyone, but the US is finally seeing a proper economic recovery. Between
2009 and 2014, both new private housing permits issued and total construction spending increased by 81% and 7%, respectively. As unemployment
fell to its lowest level since 2008, at 5.5% in June 2015, consumers are currently spending 21% more. Consumer confidence index beat projections and
rose above an average of 90.0 for eight straight months and indicate an expansion in 2015 consumption. The US economy is in a better condition than
six years ago and the UMC reflects these trends.

Stereotypes In The Film 'Bran Nue Dae'
Bran Nue Dae purposefully represents Catholics in a negative light, using specific film codes to persuade the viewer to see them as the villains of
Bran Nue Dae. They are stereotyped as disciplined, committed and vindictive for the duration of the film. When Willie first arrives at school, the
camera zooms in while non–diegetic horror music plays and a dark light is cast over the school. Technical codes such as these present the school as
menacing and eerie and help the audience to see the school and Catholics as Willie does – a sort of own personal horror movie. Similarly, the audience
is also influenced to feel frightened by the Catholic school and Benedictus. To re–emphasise this notion in the viewer, close up shots of a younger

Although some might argue that the neighborhoods that are becoming gentrified are safer, there are many other problems. The neighborhoods that
are becoming whitewashed have a lot more security but this doesn't include Black or Latino. The SFPD keeps these gentrified neighborhoods clean
by criminalizing and removing Black and Latino young men from these upgraded areas. As a result of this many Black and Latino young men suffer
from police brutality. A clear case of this is Alex Nieto, his death was due to gentrification. He was 28 years old when he was killed,in the
neighbourhood where he had spent his whole life. Like we see he was killed by the SFPD because of two calls they got saying that there was a
young Latino, probably a gang member, with his hand resting on a gun. This two calls were from two white men that were walking their dogs, not
knowing that Alex was in the neighboorhood he grew up in.After the violent death of Alex the police got acquitted. It's really sad that this is

The Goal I Have For The High Schoolers
The purpose statement I have chosen reflects the goal I have for the high schoolers in my youth group. It also lets others know why I want to work
with youth in a Christian setting and in general. The purpose of Craftsman's Heart is to Teach young people about God, crafting them into disciples
equipped with Knowledge of the Gospel, so that they may Reach the lost of the world.
Rationale: The Bible is full of stories about people who need saving. Not just people alone, but whole countries and nations. God alone gives us the
choice to obey and follow him or to turn away from him. Though he wants us to live for him and give our lives to him. For this reason he sent his son,
Jesus, to die on the cross. Because of what he did at calvary we have the opportunity to spend eternity in Heaven with our Saviour. I believe that
every single living person should know about this option they have. The people of the world deserve to know about Christ and what he did for them.
It should not be a knowledge or religion only allowed to those in first world countries. In Matthew 28:16–20 Jesus tells his disciples of The Great
Commission. "16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped
him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make
disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son

The Importance Of A Central Office That Supports District...

  • 1. The Importance Of A Central Office That Supports District... Module 6 Discussion Discuss the make–up of your central office and the ways roles are delegated in order to have a smooth running central office that supports district mission and vision. Our collective mission is 'to nurture and educate our children in accordance with all curriculum standards to prepare them for responsible citizenship and success in life'. The district's strategic plan was created with the community after holding several meetings with a variety of stakeholders and demonstrates the community's values as well as integrating 21st century skills into the classroom so students can succeed in a global economy. This was the first time our district included the community in planning and the Superintendent and Director of Curriculum were new so it was a positive change. I remember the notices we received via email encouraging teachers to attend, however, many did not because our previous administration was very bold about punishing those that did not agree with them. Over the past few years, the new central office team has worked hard in trying to build trust by forming committees, email communications, and surveys that are directly related to our goals. According to the article, "a transformation strategy is fundamentally about remaking what the people in central offices do– their daily work and relationships with school," (p. VI). After interviewing many central office personnel, I can conclude that the central office in my district follows a hierarchy as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Christianity Rediscovered By Vincent J. Donovan Christianity Rediscovered Chapter One: In the first chapter of "Christianity Rediscovered" by Vincent J. Donovan he is introducing us to the idea that missionaries now have a poor reputation due to their history. He says "History has offered the opportunity to deflect and distort the meaning of missionary work in every age". For a long time a missionary was a person spreading the word of God and after years of doing so we have diminished many different beliefs, practices, cultures and history. At the time it was thought to be the right thing, to spread out and share the gospel to help people find meaning and acceptance. In today's age a missionary is a lot of different things, in many cases it is more focused on the health and physical wellbeing of the people. Many people still share the gospel through missionary work, but in other cases it is more of a material aid. Donovan introduces the book as a voyage of discovery he wants us to put our normal beliefs aside to see his perspective of living a missionaries life and struggling with the fact of if you are helping or hurting. Donovan speaks about the missionaries who came to East Africa after they were taken into slavery. The missionaries thought it would be a good idea to come over and buy the people to save them from harsh lives, so they bought as many as they could. Doing this they also taught them all of their customs and where forced into Christianity instead of their beliefs ways and cultures. This struck off a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Church Leadership : The Key Community Of People Relationships hold the keys to success Church leadership, along with teams that are sent to the mission field should work together in identifying what needs to be done for the particular community of people. A relevant example of critical caring was in a local church body. The Worship Experience team, made up of a 200+ member choir, had clearly identified a group within this church community that would care for one another in satisfying common goals, and to accomplish the task of helping people get through tough times. While there was a general fund of money to help with occasional supermarket gift cards, this critical care group was charged with building relationships to find out real needs. When an actual couple was having hospital–related illnesses among each family member, they didn't necessarily need money–rather someone to help clean their house and do much–needed loads of laundry. Implementing solutions are where most people get stuck. Whether leading by example in a local church choir, or shepherding a mission's team into Juarez, Mexico takes courage and the willingness to take a risk. All people are capable of changing the world, but before taking that step we need to start with ourselves and change our own world–pushing past our fears and living toward goals in our lives that are guided by God's purpose. In his book Wide Awake, Erwin McManus explains what is standing between our future and us. It's fear. Putting our fears to sleep and living 'wide awake' to start ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Summary: The Local Control Accountability Plan LCFF, LCAP and Change Agents The Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) is an integral part of Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) and in California it has been the golden ticket for many districts. In 2013 Governor Jerry Brown signed LCFF into law changing not only how schools are funded, but it is also leveling the playing field in California's Public Schools by giving students in lower socio–economic areas equal access while holding schools accountable by assuring that they perform and show growth annually. California is in the 3rd year of the LCFF. In the El Monte Union High School District (EMUHSD), the approach to the LCAP process has always been a collaborative and transparent process. This means from the time the district rolled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But since the board was involved in drafting the new statement their approval should not be that difficult. There have been a lot of changes in the EMUHSD and I am sure that board members are fully aware of the need for stability. The EMUHSD Vision and Mission statement has not changed since Nov. 2011; the last time it was revised was in June of 2013. The current LCAP is in alignment with the current vision. When you look at the district is funding programs and personnel it does ensure that the students are empowered to be ethical productive successful contributing members of our global society. Echeverria says, "The vision is being financially backed". The district is at 93% unduplicated pupil population, which means that there is a lot of support for students in the ... • 5. The Mission Essay "The Mission" is a motion picture, directed by Roland Joffe in 1986, about a Jesuit mission that is threatened by greed and imperialism in the late 18th century in the Brazilian jungle. Father Gabriel, played by Jeremy Irons, climbs the mountains of Brazil to bring Christianity to the natives. He is successful and brings about a golden age among them. Mendoza, played by Robert De Niro, a slave trader, kills his brother, Felipe played by Aidan Quinn, in a fit of rage over a woman named Carlotta, played by Cherie Lunghi. Only Fr. Gabriel's leadership prevents his suicide. Gabriel brings Mendoza to work at his mission with the natives, and Mendoza finds peace and asks to become a priest. The Church, under pressure, gives the land up to the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this movie, that translates into, how the Portuguese only wanted to gain these lands for profit. Since natives lived there the Portuguese wanted to gain the land so they could trade slaves there. This was the whole reason Mendoza disregarded his vows and fought against the Portuguese. The other reason, imperialism, is the policy of extending a nation's authority by territorial acquisition or by the establishment of economic and political domination over other nations. In this case, the Portuguese wanted to acquire the lands belonging to the natives because of economic reasons. The major theme of this movie is represented in a quote. This quote is, "The church is the bride of Christ, she is also the cross on which he is daily crucified." The Bride of Jesus Christ is not a what, it's a who. She is the many membered body of Jesus Christ that is carrying on the Message sent to her from God, she is the Church. "For the marriage of the Lamb is come, And His wife hath made herself ready."–Revelation 19:7, and "And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife."–Revelation 21:9, are two quotes from the Bible including the word "bride", this bride referred to is the Church. When we say "it is the cross on which he is daily crucified," to me seems to be talking about the Eucharist and mass. Everyday the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. How Was Mendoza Able To Transcend His Violent Nature I think that the Jesuits were right in establishing the missions by keeping the real power in their own hands. By keeping the power, they are able to support the right of the Indians for justice with their lives. Was the character Mendoza able to transcend his violent nature? The character Mendoza was able to transcend his violent nature. He was violent at the beginning and killed many people, including his brother. He has avoided violence ever since he climbed the falls. However, he returned to his violent nature when he decides to protect the mission militarily, which goes against Father Gabriel's and God's wishes. Ultimately, he was able to transcend his violent nature because he chose to help the native child rather than initiating the trap on the enemy. Did he character Mendoza adequately atone for killing his brother? Mendoza was ultimately able to atone for killing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... before he came to the priest. As the priest explains, he sees Mendoza as a coward who runs away from the world and his problems. He tried to run away of the jealousy of his wife's affair. To avoid confrontation he had to resort to violence and it resulted in his brothers death. He ran away from this guilt to the church, where he is trying to die from starvation. He first shows determination and willingness to make a change in his life and obtain absolution for his actions when he attempts to climb the fall with a bundle of weapons. He built a friendship with the natives. He no longer believed in violence after his brother's death. As opposed to his character who killed natives in the beginning of the movie, the character he is after his climb could not kill the pig that was in the forest. Although Mendoza continued to kill people after, he did it to defend the natives, which shows he has grown to care for them. Instead of pulling the trigger at the end, he chose to help the native child. He has stronger morals as he learned to value the lives of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Frankenmuth's Role In Ethiopia Frederick Wyneken was a German missionary who was working in Michigan and Ohio who first thought of the idea for Frankenmuth. A place for schools and churches for German immigrants was his idea for this place. However, he and his fellow German Immigrants didn't have enough money to start such an idea. Therefore, in 1840 he wrote a letter to all the Lutherans in Germany for financial assistance and speaking of the hardships that the people where facing. His Letter caught the attention of the Wilhelm Loehe, who is a pastor of several towns in Germany, and because of his strong beliefs and convictions in the church doctrines, "He organized a mission society, still operating today, and began training teachers and pastors for work in the United... Loehe may have been encouraged by the success of the Frankenmuth settlement. His goal wasn't to settle another mission colony. He wanted to have German Lutheran families live close together in Michigan. To keep houses close together, farms were plotted all along one road. This way was more like more like a German "dorf" or village. He developed the settlement of Frankenlust. It was settled in 1848, approximately 22 miles north of Frankenmuth. Just like Frankentrost, this settlement it was built to keep German–Lutheran families close together. The Settlement of Pastors Loehe's fourth colony of Frankenhilf was developed in 1850. Frankenhilf is known as Richville today. It lies about 9 miles northeast of Frankenmuth. Once the forest was cleared, citizens of Frankenhilf took up farming. Shortly after, he is joined by Rodrigo Mendoza, a nearby prisoner who has been seeking penance. With the intent of converting the natives to Christianity, they were able to generate a bond that forces them to protect each other by whatever means necessary. After a treaty transferred their land from Spain to Portugal, Mendoza and Gabriel become determined to defend the mission, even if they disagreed on the way they would accomplish the complex task. • 11. Mission Trip To Brazil The Word of God contains numerous scriptures pertaining to servitude. The last shall be first, well done my good and faithful servant, and even the purpose of the Lord's Christ, to serve and give his life a ransom for many. At one point in time or another, we have all had the opportunity to minister to those weaker, less fortunate, confused, tired and heavy laden, or just people in our path. From the miniscule of helps to the grandeur of provisions, anything we have done to the least of these, we have done unto our Savior (Matthew 25:40). My pearls of serving others have carried me to the uttermost parts of the world in the form of mission trips with ample opportunity to share the gospel. Our marching orders known as the great commission is laid out in Acts, "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth." • 12. Being the Best Missionary to the Indians A good missionary is one that simply is respected and accepted by the Indians and who has successfully spread the word of God to them. Many qualities however though play into obtaining this presence. A lot of Europeans that came to the new world did not possess these many qualities to understand the Indians. As a Jesuit myself who is a part of the New France mission I do know on a first hand basis what it takes to be a good missionary. As a part of the New France mission I have experienced various encounters with several different Indian nations. I do admit that these native people are very down to earth and connected with each other very well. The purpose of are mission to New France was to spread the word of God and our Catholic faith to the natives and convert them. This process is much easier said than it is to actually be done. For one just think about trying to first communicate with a person who speaks a different language, has no idea who you are, and where you came from. To sum it up basically trying to talk with an alien from another planet in the skies. This leads me to saying that communication and patience are the top two qualities that we missionaries have to have to even start to succeed with our mission. Other Frenchmen that came here to the New World to start a new life do not seem up to par with are communication and patience skills with the natives here. The fact of their skills not up to par with ours is mainly because as a Jesuit we have been trained ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. How Gentrification Is Damaging Neighborhoods Gentrification is damaging neighborhoods because it forcibly displaces the lower income residents on the streets to make room for luxurious more expensive apartments. The term gentrification means to conform to middle–class taste, which is exactly what is happening to places like the Mission District, Placita Olvera Street, East Los Angeles, and many more urban areas. Not only are our neighborhoods being gentrified, but also so is our food. Culture vulture, as defined in Urban Dictionary, means "Someone who steals traits, language and/or fashion from another ethnic or social group in order to create their own identity." In urban and poor neighborhoods you now see newer condos, stores, and restaurants. Great deals of middle to high–income people think that they are helping our hoods, and making them safer. There are few hoods that can be improved, but not with rent increase. The residents who live in these urban hoods already moved there because of cheap rent, so to raise cost on them because hipsters want to steal their culture is wrong. Theses hoods are not being made safer and nicer, they are being white washed. • 14. Christian Mission Book Review Essay Christian Mission Book Review Part two begins with David Livingstone, a Scottish missionary, and a professional doctor. He was very interested in exploration and his main goal was to stop Portuguese and Arab slave trade, he believed in human self–worth. He got his men and his supplies and started his voyage to Africa to map Africa, he was successful at mapping most of Zambezi. Livingstone was accused of not being a "real"missionary and he was too political but he always made sure he was working with God in mind. Livingstone died at the age of 60 in 1873 defending the African's freedom. His people cut out his heart and buried it, the rest of his body was mummified and taken to Westminster Abbey to be buried, as he wished. A statue was built in his honor with the base reading, "Missionary, Explorer, Liberator". Livingstone is one example of how much political and economic power a Christian missionary can have. He also encouraged the work of the Jesuits in China. The western power and missionaries have created bad names for the social/cultural changes or for being connected with colonialism, imperialism, westernity, and modernity mostly by the missionaries. Some say that Christianity has challenged or strengthened the local power. "Scientific racism" first came up in the 1850s Joseph–Arthur de Gobineu's book called Essi sur l'inegalite des races humanines. • 15. The Cultural And Social Behavior Of A Society The cultural means relating to the ideas, customs, and social behavior of a society. Therefore, when doing world mission we must be able to relate to the culture in which we are ministering to. We are not to forget who we are as far as culturally, but we are to have the knowledge of that particular culture. For example, in Chapter 3 in our textbook, it speaks of Patrick, an English slave who escaped from Ireland and later returned as a missionary. Being that he "understood the people and their language, their issues, and their ways", served as a channel for the people to easily receive from him. Being able to relate to a group of people, having the knowledge of that particular group, and being able to understand the group in which you are ministering to is very essential in doing mission work. You have to be careful how you approach people and when you do be conscious of how you engage unbelievers. In conclusion, cultural simply refers to relations. On the other hand, this particular question is referring to the negative fallouts (listed in the text) as results to decisions missionaries have made overtime. Should those missionaries be representatives of all missionaries? In my opinion, the spread of Christianity, as I refer to as the period of missionary work, has had a major, positive influence on the world in many, many ways. Some missionaries may be looked upon as bringing about negative change and some are looked upon as bringing about positive change. I believe it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The indigenous people of Paraguay and Southern Brazil, the Guarani, faced terrifying encounters with the powerful European colonizers during the period of European colonialism. Many innocent people on both sides of the battle lost their lives. The Jesuits were a Christian missionary group that brought the Good News of Jesus Christ, all the while helping to defend the indigenous people by respecting their culture and human dignity, also referred to as "inculturation". The Jesuit presence paved the way for later ideas such as liberation theology and the post–colonial theory. The Commonweal article, "What We Can and Cannot Fix: Rewatching TheMission prompts viewers to reassess the film and notice other possible issues that were related to the Jesuit's presence. The Jesuits had a huge presence during the brutal attacks that occurred between the European colonists and the Guarani. The Jesuits always sided with the indigenous people and worked to protect their safety and human dignity. However, the main goal of the missionary enterprise as stated by Fr. Gabriel, the leader of the Jesuits, was "to make Christians out of these people." • 24. The Mission Movie Analysis "The Mission" is a film that gives a historically accurate depiction of the events that took place in South America around 1750, displaying the jesuit missions and their attempt at expanding missionary ventures in the area. These missions foresaw the Jesuits going to uncharted areas of the jungle inhabited by the Guarani people, demonstrating the significance assimilating the Guarani people meant to the Jesuits. Additionally, the Guarani people were accurately displayed as a self–sustained society where basic components such as: productivity, protection, justice regulations and a form of a leader was evident in the form of their King. Nonetheless, the Guarani were an isolated group of individuals who were secluded to the outside world; their only contact with outside personnelles were slave traders who would put them into forced slavery for personal benefits. Not to mention the "Treaty of Madrid", which resulted in the social and political disputes between the, Portuguese, Spanish and Catholic community; manifesting in the form of territorial conflicts and misunderstandings amongst the three vigorous societies, where each have a different purpose for the Guarani people. The opening scenes in the movie shows a man tied to a cross who is set to float down the river and eventually falls over the robust waterfall. He was a man sent by the jesuits to assimilate the Guarani people, however his death is unjustified in the movie which leads us to consequently assume that the Guarani people were at fault for his death. Correspondingly, father Gabriel comes to deliver the message of christianity to the Guarani people and establish a mission on their land. Most Jesuit missions served as a form of protection for the Guarani natives from slave traders, owing to the fact that the Jesuit missions had strict regulations about visiting outsiders. By means of enforcement Jesuits only allowed the spanish or Portuguese to spend a maximum of three days in their community. Nonetheless, Jesuit beliefs were conflicted by the actions of the Portuguese and the spanish that conflicted with their impact on societal function, coming into the new world. The Mission District was not always like this. Originally home to the Ohlone, the Spanish colonized and established missionaries in the Mission in 1776, and founded Mission San Francisco de Asis, now known as Mission Dolores ("To Whom Does"). In its earliest days, the Mission District was a mixed neighborhood of Eastern European, Irish, Swedish, and German immigrants. The fuse of the war was ignited by the Treaty of Madrid in 1750, which was signed by the king of Spain and Portugal to completely determine the border between Spain and Portugal in South America by the area around Uruguay river. Around that time, the Jesuit mission stations and the local Indians were growing rapidly both economically and regionally with their outstanding plantations, which was much better than those in Portugal's own territory. As a consequence, the Portuguese wanted to take over control the land and slave the Indians. They forced theCatholic church to dissemble their mission station and did the massacre right after they leaved. The paradigm that director used was carefully selected. The story of the movie was told from a vision of Cardinal Altamirano, who was writing a letter to the pop for explaining what had happened. Within the story, the two main narratives were not on ... • 35. The United Methodist Church The United Methodist Church is growing and it is happening in nontraditional areas. Between 2005 and 2013 outreach ministries connected the UMC with diverse communities and created over 130,000 new disciples in His image. Outreach ministries believe in providing sustenance to who are without basic needs and envision a day without want. On this foundation, missionaries built programs and create an opportunity for growth. Through ministry, the UMC continues to provide support and generosity to those who need help, while transforming missionaries' actions into disciples across the globe. UMC apportionments equip ministries and change the world. The state of giving within The United Methodist Church has increased over the last decade. With the rise in consumer confidence, United Methodist congregations are healthier than almost a decade ago. The recession hurt everyone, but the US is finally seeing a proper economic recovery. Between 2009 and 2014, both new private housing permits issued and total construction spending increased by 81% and 7%, respectively. As unemployment fell to its lowest level since 2008, at 5.5% in June 2015, consumers are currently spending 21% more. • 36. Stereotypes In The Film 'Bran Nue Dae' Bran Nue Dae purposefully represents Catholics in a negative light, using specific film codes to persuade the viewer to see them as the villains of Bran Nue Dae. They are stereotyped as disciplined, committed and vindictive for the duration of the film. When Willie first arrives at school, the camera zooms in while non–diegetic horror music plays and a dark light is cast over the school. Technical codes such as these present the school as menacing and eerie and help the audience to see the school and Catholics as Willie does – a sort of own personal horror movie. Similarly, the audience is also influenced to feel frightened by the Catholic school and Benedictus. To re–emphasise this notion in the viewer, close up shots of a younger students ... • 37. Loss Of Diversity In Film 2.0 "San Francisco is a microcosm for what is happening not only in the US, but all over the world. It is places that increasingly desirable to live in that are becoming gated communities. I'm worried about a city that is becoming uniformly wealthy, out of reach and out of touch."– Robert Reich Robert Reich, a professor of public policy at UC Berkeley and former labor of secretary states it's worries for a city that is slowly changing due to the boom of technology. Reich expresses his thoughts about the change San Francisco is facing in the documentary Version 2.0. In this documentary, directed by Alexandra Pelosi, we see both sides of the coin that San Francisco is facing. One of them being the technology boom, the numerous fancy buildings and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although some might argue that the neighborhoods that are becoming gentrified are safer, there are many other problems. The neighborhoods that are becoming whitewashed have a lot more security but this doesn't include Black or Latino. The SFPD keeps these gentrified neighborhoods clean by criminalizing and removing Black and Latino young men from these upgraded areas. As a result of this many Black and Latino young men suffer from police brutality. A clear case of this is Alex Nieto, his death was due to gentrification. He was 28 years old when he was killed,in the neighbourhood where he had spent his whole life. Like we see he was killed by the SFPD because of two calls they got saying that there was a young Latino, probably a gang member, with his hand resting on a gun. This two calls were from two white men that were walking their dogs, not knowing that Alex was in the neighboorhood he grew up in.After the violent death of Alex the police got acquitted. It's really sad that this is happening and that we can no longer feel safe in our own neighborhood. Based on what I experienced, I also feel the different vibe when I hang out with my friends. All of the friends I hang out on the weekends are Latino and they live in the same neighborhood, but when a group of new neighbors pass by they think that we are some sort of gang. I'm just really sad and overwhelmed by all the gentrification ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Personal Narrative: Memorial Baptist Church Church, temple, sanctuary, or the Lords's house, these are just a few names that your average person might call the place you come to worship God, I have always called it home. The Church I have been attending, Memorial Baptist Church, which is also where I attend high school, I have been attending since I was the age of three years old. Moving to the area that my family lives in now, I do not believe is any accident. At the age of two years old, my father was stationed in Tennessee for the military. After passing away from brain cancer, my Mother moved my two older sisters and me to Killeen Texas, to be closer to her family. MemorialBaptist Church was the only church we have ever been members of since moving to Texas, it has always felt like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This night was one of the best nights there ( and not just because I was leading it). This night was the night that people opened up the most, and let there walls down, and let one another see each other's brokenness, that we may be healed by the Lord, keep each accountable, and pray for one another. This was the first time that I knew that I was supposed to go into ministry, although I had thought about it before. Here on thismission trip was also when I knew that I was going to be baptized for the second time. I was baptized once before, I knew that I had realized that I was not completely aware of what I was doing. I told my youth pastor that I wanted to be baptized aging, and he was very happy for me. We got back from our mission trip, and about a month later I was baptized by my youth pastor on July 31, 2016. The only way I could describe how I felt afterward was "complete". It made with special experience even better, that I was able to share it with all of my church family, that has supported my through my walk with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Clinical Observation Of Shawnee Mission School I had my clinical rotations at Westwood View Elementary. The school is under the Shawnee mission School District (SMSD). It is located in the city of Westwood, North East corner of Shawnee mission. The school's population is about 305 children, ages 5– 11 and 12, ranging from kindergarten –sixth graders. The school has only one school nurse. Westwood community is not an economically deprived area, so, the children have enough resources for their education. Some of the kids go through emotional and psychological stress which come from Parents divorce, parents wanting their children to be the best in class, making them go above and beyond their academic limits My main involvement with this agency was teaming up with the school's nurse to provide care for the students. I was able to use the nursing process in providing care to those young students. They would come in with all sorts of complaints, like an abrasion on their skin, or with a sore throat, or some of the students who have ADHD, who usually take their medications at certain times come in ... The aim of this activity is to teach students the importance of handwashing. How the activity works, we come to the class with the glow kit which comprises of a box with an inbuilt mercury light called Glitter Bug Lamp. It also contains the Glitter Bug Potion, which is a UV disclosing lotion. This lotion is the pretend germs which the kids will apply on their hands, it glows when exposed to the glitter bug lamp. Then, they'll be asked to go scrub their hands and wash off the germs with soap and water. • 40. The Goal I Have For The High Schoolers The purpose statement I have chosen reflects the goal I have for the high schoolers in my youth group. It also lets others know why I want to work with youth in a Christian setting and in general. The purpose of Craftsman's Heart is to Teach young people about God, crafting them into disciples equipped with Knowledge of the Gospel, so that they may Reach the lost of the world. Rationale: The Bible is full of stories about people who need saving. Not just people alone, but whole countries and nations. God alone gives us the choice to obey and follow him or to turn away from him. Though he wants us to live for him and give our lives to him. For this reason he sent his son, Jesus, to die on the cross. Because of what he did at calvary we have the opportunity to spend eternity in Heaven with our Saviour. I believe that every single living person should know about this option they have. The people of the world deserve to know about Christ and what he did for them. It should not be a knowledge or religion only allowed to those in first world countries. In Matthew 28:16–20 Jesus tells his disciples of The Great Commission. "16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son ...
