SPED 600 Week two (WEB) <br />Please turn in your assignment on Week 2 session of this portal.  This assignment is due: September 12 12:00am<br />Forum # 2: pick a child in your class that you feel does not catch things like the others; the one that seems to be a little lost. Give us a short story regarding this student; do not use his/her name or the class he/she is currently on.  You may baptize this student with a pseudo name, such as Sleepy Joe or Curly Sue. You have to “paint us a picture,” remember that we do not know the child.  <br />Don’t forget to respond to at least three other posting.  Your response may help someone narrow his/her focus or shed light to something they have not seen.<br />What would I learn? In the is session you will learn inclusion considerations for students with disabilities by living a case study where principal Flores, always seems to have new issues to deal with, but one thing always remains the same—or should—and that is providing the best education possible for all students. Only, some of our students are in danger of falling through the cracks. You will learn how to deal with and help your students with special needs. <br />On the second part of the assignment, you will be given the tools necessary to learn how to write IEP goals from the perspective of a teacher.  In your classroom you will be responsible to know and write the goals you want the special students to achieve.  In all schools, there is always a “push” for certain curriculum.  It may be driven by AYP or API (test scores), usually the push is for math, and or English, it will behoove you to choose these areas in your goals. <br />In addition to your assignment you will be working on constructing your final portfolio. <br />I hope you enjoy your week 2 assignment! <br /> <br />Assignment # 2.1:<br />,[object Object]

  • 2. Click tutorial and “navigate an Iris Module.”
  • 3. After completing the 7 minute tutorial, go to the home page and click “resources”
  • 5. Choose: Module: Accessing the General Education Curriculum: Inclusion Considerations for Students with Disabilities.
  • 6. Click on “challenge” and watch the 3 min video.
  • 7. Go to “thoughts” and respond to all question posted on this page under “initial thoughts.”(Using a word document) There should be three questions.
  • 8. When you are done, go “perspective and Resources” here you will find additional information, labeled by question. This page will shed some light to a better understanding of the problem and it may help you answer the next questions.
  • 9. Click on “assessments” and answer all the questions posted (use a word document), total of four questions.

  • 11. Review lesson 5 only (no need to register just click on lesson 5)
  • 12. Write three goals (two core subjects and one behavior); make sure they are measurable, realistic, content base, achievable.
  • 13. Do you know what your district/school is working? In other words, what is the “push” for at your site? (English? Math? Other?). Use this to drive your goals.

One SST form completely fill in with the selected child’s information (you may need to look at the cum for information, confer with other professionals who have dealt with the child, home visit or phone conversation with parent, consult with past teacher and present teacher, if you are neither of them) Note: please use child’s first name only
  • 16. If possible, student will turned in the SST referral and will document its result
  • 17. Typed reflection of the SST process, include the reason why this particular child attracted your attention, any aha moments, disillusions, or comments you may think will give me a clear vision of your endeavor.
