Persuasive Essay On Healthy Food In Schools
A "healthy diet" is what most people claim as effective when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle.
However, they fail to execute that type of eating themselves. School campuses and their cafeteria
lunches are an example of a source that falsely advocates for a better and nutritious lifestyle, while
not actually contributing to helping the well–being of their students. Although they always claim
that they are encouraging healthy eating, the food provided at the schools say otherwise. It should
be important to educate students on making the right choice to eat better so they would be aware of
any health risks they might have. In order to provide students with healthier food options, schools
should enforce fresher lunch alternatives and the decrease in junk foods in the vending machines on
campus. Improving schools nationwide based on how they manage their junk food is significant
since it determines the overall health of the students. Schools should provide a healthier lunch
alternative to aid students to eat a more nutritious and harmless meal. Students should be given the
option to eat a more wholesome meal instead of pizza and burgers, which are essentially junk and
frozen foods. As a result, they will demonstrate positive results in stamina and their academics. These
healthier alternatives will affect students in the long run. For instance, by giving them the option to
choose between unhealthy and healthy foods, will encourage the practice of making good eating
habits later in the future. Although many are aware that junk foods are unhealthy and is lacking
with the proper nutrients, they don't truly know the actual consequences when it's being eaten.
Many diseases such as diabetes are caused by unhealthy eating habits; these diseases can also be at
risk of death. More individuals are at risk due to the junk foods that they are surrounded by. This is
because nowadays, junk food locations or fast food franchises are opening more frequently than
health–based restaurants. Businesses and their customers are the ones that seem to be contributing to
the problem. Since fast food consumers tend to favor fast food places because it is mainly cheaper,
quicker, and filling. The consumers prefer the low maintenance,

Healthy Eating Research Paper
Abstract
Eating healthy is important for many reasons, it will promote intellectual development in children
and adolescents prevent major health problems from developing and ensure a long and healthy life
style. This research paper will introduce the importance of forming a healthy eating habit from a
young age onto the senior years and will also point out some of the negative effects not eating
healthy can cause such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, obesity, iron deficiency
anemia, dental caries, under–nutrition, and eating disorders.
During the past 20 years, there has been a substantial increase in obesity in the United States and
rates remain high. More than one–third of U.S....show more content...
Unlike diets, eating healthy is a not a temporary solution. Eating healthy and choosing a variety of
foods from each food group – grams, proteins, fruits, vegetables and diary combined with routine
physical activity can result in a long and healthy lifestyle. When choosing food for one's family it is
important to look for food low in fat and sugar, relatively low in calories, rich in vitamins, minerals,
and other nutrients important to health.
Some examples of these types of foods are fruits and vegetables, whole grains, fat–free or low–fat
milk, dairy products, lean meat, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, and nuts. There are some foods that are
a little bit higher in calories, fat, and added sugars, which could be consumed on a less frequent
basis. Foods highest in fat, added sugars and calories are often low in nutrients and therefore
should only be eaten once in a while, such as special occasions in small portions. Some examples
of these types of foods are fried vegetables, fruits canned in heavy syrup, doughnuts, sweet rolls,
whole milk, untrimmed beef, cookies, pies, and sodas. Eat only when hungry and do not over eat.
Overeating is one of the main problems people have when trying to maintain a healthy weight. If a
person eats in moderation, he or she can enjoy any type of food, even sweets as long as it is in
portioned size. Eating when hungry and stopping

Benefits Of Eating Healthy Foods Essay
My parents raised their eight children with the belief that eating healthy foods were crucial in
maintaining proper growth and development. An abundance of fresh garden (organic) vegetables
and fruits, dairy foods, and various selected meats was the norm in our household. Special deserts
and treats were frequently provided too. My grandfather, with all good intentions, began purchasing
cow's milk. He cared about his grandchildren very much and believed it to be nutritious. The taste
can never be forgotten. It was painful to drink that glass of milk. A container full of chocolate syrup
couldn't disguise the disgusting taste. Unfortunately, many of the foods we consumed are not
considered to be healthy today.
The recent graduate course, "Creating Health and Balance in Today's Classroom", along with a
personal interest in my health and that of my loved ones, has enabled me to have a better
understanding that specific foods impose a major health risk. Being conscience of what we eat is,
frankly, a matter of life or death.
Statistics list Heart disease as being the number one cause of death in our country. Yet, with a
disciplined attitude, obtaining a healthy diet and lifestyle can prevent and reverse heart disease in
many cases. Sadly, Many Americans, continue to eat unhealthy foods that cause unnecessary, early
death. According to Campbell, T.C., & Campbell, T.M. (2004):
Heart disease will kill one out of every three Americans. According to the American Heart

Healthy Eating Essay
How does healthy eating affect your life? Many people really pay attention to the food they put in
their bodies, until we get sick and need medical attention. I know that many of us love to eat fast
food, but it catches up with us in the long run. While eating healthy would stop you from getting
sick, and lower the cost of health care, healthy eating can enrich your body and prevent you from
getting high doctor bills. How can I eat healthier? Healthy eating means picking all natural foods
from the basic food groups; meats, dairy, fruits and vegetables, grains and stop eating too many
sweets and fats. The first step in eating healthy is to know the good fats from the bad fats. Fats are
another vital part to a healthy diet. Good fats...show more content...
Once you know what to eat, now you have to consume too much. One of the biggest problems
with eating healthy knows when you have had enough. Not knowing when to stop can result in
one developing an eating disorder. There are many types of eating disorders. The main two types
of eating disorders people get from excessive eating is obesity and anorexia. Obesity is a disease of
excess fat tissue in the body, or when someone eats too much. Anorexia is when someone who has a
low self–esteem and often a tremendous need to control their surroundings and emotions by
consuming as little food as possible. Someone who is overweight will eat because they are not
happy with the way they look. Someone who suffers from anorexia starves themselves because
they are unhappy with the way they look. People with these certain eating disorders should come
together to help each other get through these hard times. One can get tired thinking about all of the
sicknesses one could get from eating unhealthy. High medical bills can leave one bankrupt. The
problem that comes with unhealthy eating also comes with high medical cost. Doctors who
specialize in illnesses dealing with eating disorders and heart diseases tend to have high premium
cost. You have to put at least six hundred dollars or more just for the visit. Medical illness can be a
financial nightmare leading to bankruptcy. (Jeanie Lerche Davis, Feb. 2, 2005,). The way our

When something is detrimental to our health, we strive to avoid it whenever possible to extend
our lives. We know that exposure to known cancer causing agents such as asbestos and lead paint
is harmful; therefore, we do not expose ourselves to the risk and we certainly do not eat it. This
seems simple; however, what do we do when that harmful vice is food? We cannot stop eating;
instead, we must closely examine what we are putting into our bodies. When faced with the choice
of a burger or grilled vegetables, most would choose the burger. These choices have lead us down a
path littered with food related diseases, illnesses and rising healthcare costs. The state of Americans

The advertisement sounds and looks believable until you read the label on the package. The salad

making it the unhealthy option.
Society must educate itself on what type of food is healthy such as fresh or fresh frozen vegetables,
lean meats, whole grains and fruits. Parents should take the time to explain what these are and why
they are important, educating themselves if necessary. Families can also extend this education to a
hands–on experience but starting a small vegetable garden which produces some of the vegetables
they eat. Author and farmer, Sharon Astyk, and sustainable systems land planner, Aaron Newton,
argue that people need to take back the control of the food selection and prices by growing their
own or purchasing directly from local farmers. In their article, "The Rich Get Richer: the Poor Go
Hungry", Astyk and Newton (2015) write, "When we grow our own food, or buy it directly from
local farmers, we take power away from multinationals" (p.518). I agree that society should become
more involved and self–sustaining pertaining to food to retain independence from companies that
are loyal to shareholders. This education will provide the current and future generations necessary
resources to make improved food choices, thereby reducing the obesity and diabetes epidemics
gripping our nation.

The choices one makes everyday about what food to eat affect not only day to day life but have
serious consequences for one's future. Eating healthy foods, with a diet that is rich in fruits and
vegetables and has a good balance of all essential nutrients can make one feel happier and have
more energy. It can also lead to increased life span and a better life over all. Diets rich in fatty
food, and having a diet that is off balance with carbohydrates and other nutrients can lead to a
decreased living standard. This type of diet can lead to serious health problems in the future and can
cause obesity and heart problems. Also for those who do not eat enough food, or throw up their food

For people who eat excess milk, cheese, and meat, they may be putting themselves at risk, as
these food are linked to saturated fat. Saturated fats can be converted into cholesterol, which in
excess can cause problems such as heart disease. Overeating is also not good, as excess calories
can lead to being overweight and eventually lead to obesity. Obesity is linked with the following
diseases: type 2 diabetes, arthritis, heart disease, strokes, and high blood pressure. These are
obviously detrimental to one's health and affect one's life for years and years to come. Obesity is a

olds, and these kids will grow up unhealthy which will affect them for their whole lives. Eating
unhealthy and making poor food choices will only hurt you, and over the years you will become
more at risk for life threatening diseases. It is also harmful to one's health in the long run to

words they are the energy we need to keep our bodies running and able to function day to day.
Even if someone does not exercise they need over 1000 calories to keep their body running. If
someone regular under eats they will start to lose weight, and some of their body's functions may

People all over the world have less or no access to Healthy Foods, and I feel if a rather large group

Healthy Food is key. Your body requires certain amounts of carbohydrates, protein, fats, vitamins,
and minerals. Without those things your body will not function properly and you will not get to
live your life fully. Want to lose weight? Have you thought about eating healthier? All the
nutrients, proteins, vitamins you consume via healthy foods help that if that's something you
worry about. I think schools need it more than anywhere because you see kids at school eating
this junk that they either took or were given, and they don't function in their classes as well. Ask
any teacher this is proven. Now look at the kids in your class who eat healthy meaning eating a
good breakfast, and a good dinner the previous night. All the vitamins, proteins, etc. can improve
brain activity, eye vision, and all sorts of other key things in a classroom. Now if the parents don't
feed their children very well, then somebody should really step in and convince these parents to
see what they're feeding their children because it's not good for them. However, there's only so

Persuasive Speech: Making healthy Nutritional decisions.
Specific Purpose: To persuade my classmates to make healthier nutritional choices.
Thesis Statement: Healthy eating is not something to worry about down the road; we need to act
now, while we are young to develop good habits for the future.
1.Introduction:
a.Attention Getter: I visited Holly Drougas–our very own licensed dietician here at Virginia Western.
I asked her, "What is the first thing that comes to mind when I say the word 'Nutrition'?" She shocked
me by saying, "Confusion". With so much conflicting and confusing information from both the
scientific community and the lay press, many people simply don't know what to eat to be healthy or
to lose weight.
b.Focus on Topic: Healthy eating is not about strict dietary limitations, staying unrealistically thin, or

Relevance: When it comes down to it, I'm not going to shove kale down your throat if you tell me
that you just hate kale, even though it appears to be another one of the big health crazes. I'm just
trying to show you all that eating healthy doesn't have to be a miserable experience, and despite our
limitations as college students, we can overcome the hurdles of Availability, Time, and Money, to
maintain a healthy diet.
e.Preview: So today, we're going to talk about the wonderful world of Nutrition, and I'm going to try
to convince you that carrots and celery aren't just rabbit food, but people food too.
2.Problem Step:
a.Internal Preview: So let's start with some reasons as to why so many people are confused about
what to eat: misinformation and marketing.
b.Since 1992 the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has provided the nutritional food
pyramid, which has been the standard by which many have ascribed as far as recommended food
intake. I'm sure this model looks familiar to most of you.

Americans Should Eat Healthy Foods Essay
Americans Should Eat Healthy Foods The overall health of the nation should concern every
American within the United States. The populous has acquired a bad habit of turning to convenience
foods because of availability, taste and comfort. Thus to re–direct the health of the nation, people
need to stop crippling their health by convenience foods and replace it with healthy, natural choices,
otherwise the health of all will continue to decline. The body responds differently to food types,
either healthy or convenience, and determines the mood and daily productivity of an individual.

On an average, large amount of fast foods consumed on a daily basis, leads to the deterioration of
an individuals' bodily health over time. Consuming more fruits, vegetables and healthy foods, will
increase the life expectancy of most individuals. According to Donald D. Hensrud of the Mayo
Clinic on Healthy Weight, "Eating well– choosing a plant–based diet, which emphasizes vegetables,
fruits and whole grains – also will reduce your risks of some of our nation's biggest killers and
related conditions. Many cancers, heart disease and high blood pressure, among other conditions, are
linked to diet, most notably to diets high in fat and saturated fat. Even without weight loss, adopting
a healthier eating style can be beneficial. (Hensrud 49)" The majority of Americans give the
argument that healthy food takes up too much time. They state that they do not have enough time to
prepare healthy meals with a busy schedule, whereas convenience foods are easily squeezed into a
day. This common misconception often inhibits the populous from exerting any energy toward
trying to accommodate a healthier lifestyle. As Hensrud states, "Cooking healthfully is not difficult
to do, but it may involve rethinking your approach. (Hensrud 49)" Just a little prior preparation cuts
time and effort in a tight schedule and healthy foods generally taste much better than foods from the
local convenience restaurant. When going the healthy route, many choices

Since the 1970's, the food industry has evolved in ways that have made purchasing foods
convenient; but on the other hand, also affect our health. Some people may appeal to the mass
production and convenience of processed and packaged foods while others may believe that healthy
foods like vegetables and fruits are beneficial to their health. While food companies aim to minimize
the time and costs of food production, they feel that it is justifiable to incorporate any harmful
chemical to their foods. These processed foods contain chemicals that lead to health diseases over a
period of time and consumption, and they also include fats, oils, salts and sugars. These few
ingredients are not naturally derived from nature, which reveals how companies emulsify foods into
harmful ingredients to ingest. Although processed and packaged foods are cheap and convenient,
they ultimately are harmful to one's health because they cause health related diseases; therefore, one
should incorporate more healthy food into their diet. One reason that healthy foods should be
subsidized is because school districts need to change the food selection that they put out for students,
because this harms their health. Many students have no choice but to consume the foods that school
districts put out. In Alice Waters and Katrina Heron's essay, No Lunch Left Behind, they reveal that
the National School Lunch Program needs to consider what foods they are giving to the students

Believe?
Dieting, everybody does it nowadays. But is it as good as everyone hopes? Healthful food from the
store often seems more healthy than it actually is. The industry tricks people by advertising false
information. It is important that people really know what they eat, so they can eat as healthy as they
actually want. However, not every piece of healthful food is unhealthy, no one will claim something
like that. But dieting by drinking fruit juices from the store instead of soda and eating fat–free
products from the supermarket will not improve the well–being of people (Gunnars, 2014b). In the
following sections will be explained why those products are not healthy.
Counterargument:
In contrast to what is said in the introduction, not all kinds of healthful food are unhealthy. Trying to
eat good is always better than getting a meal at the MacDonald's. Junk food is high in calories, if
one eats to many of it, it can have dangerous outcomes. A diet that contains many fruits and
vegetables can lower the risk of...show more content...
But as said in the first section, this is not necessary. Healthful food can be healthy if it is made with
the proper products which do not contain unhealthy supplements like extra sugar or artificial food
colours. Low–fat or light products just are tricks that advertisers use to make the products seem
healthy. These products will be eaten in bigger portions and people will eat more often if they eat
low–fat or light products. Eventually this will have the outcome that they will consume the same
amount of calories as when they eat normal products. During a diet, it can happen that not all of the
crucial nutrition values are consumed by the body. This can lead to constipation and other health

There seems to be far too much confusion around what healthy eating really is and how to do it.
Everywhere you look there are food products being portrayed as "nutritious" when clearly they aren't,
we have health organisations in Australia promoting the wrong message and our sports role models
and health experts promoting foods which are still unhealthy – it's any wonder society is sicker than
ever before. Did you know that 60%+ of Australians are overweight or obese and that the main
cause of death is cardiovascular disease? There appears to be a correlation between the increase in
refined, fried and fatty foods and the rise in weight gain. WHAT IS HEALTHY EATING?
Healthy eating is eating foods which infuse the digestive system with nutrients which are used to
rebuild and repair tissue as well as give the body an abundance of energy. For the digestive system to
work at optimal levels it needs to be able to secrete, digest, absorb and defecate regularly. Foods
which are ideal for the digestive system are foods which haven't been tampered with and are still
alive! Our body is alive, therefore we need to eat alive foods such as leafy greens, vegetables and
fruits, as well as nuts, seeds, legumes and whole grains. These foods are cleansing, nutrient–rich and
give us the most energy. WHAT ISN'T HEALTHY EATING? Eating foods which are highly
processed, refined (wheat and sugar), fatty and fried, tampered with etc... are not good for us in
large doses. The body is pretty powerful

Obesity occurs over time when you eat more calories than you use. The balance between your
genetic makeup, overeating, eating high–fat foods, and not being physically active. Being obese
increases your risk of diabetes, heart disease, stroke, arthritis, and some cancers. If you are obese,
losing even 5 to 10 percent of your weight can delay or prevent some of these diseases. For
example, that means losing 10 to 20 pounds if you weigh 200 pounds. All of this can come from
eating unhealthy foods.
Anyone who struggles with food and eating can fall into habits that may lead to what professionals
call disordered eating. Disordered eating can take many forms, ranging from unhealthy eating habits
that keep you from losing weight. "Healthy functioning organs require adequate nutrition, and
healthy hair follicles are no exception. Starvation diets that lead to severe protein–energy
malnutrition can cause brittle hair or worse, hair loss. Studies show diets that are low in protein,
essential fatty acids, and nutrients such as Vitamin C, zinc and iron are associated with hair loss,
thinning, and loss of pigmentation." (Quoted by Kristin Kilpatrick) "Foods that are high in
simple carbohydrates cause blood sugar to spike, which is followed by a blood sugar drop soon
after. Often called a sugar crash, this is the reason a high carbohydrate, sugary breakfast or

Healthy Foods Are Not What They Seem Don't do drugs! We've all heard this popular slogan or
statement used before somewhere in our day to day lives; especially as teenagers going to public
schools. As students, we learn at our schools the dangers of all of the different types drugs and
what they could do to us if we take them and get addicted. However, one issue that we do not talk
about at schools is the dangers of unhealthy foods and the effects that it has on our bodies. In
some cases, this is even a bigger epidemic than the one from drugs and is giving people in many
cases diabetes and death. Children every year are growing up more and more obese with the
numbers increasing only as time goes on and foods get worse. With that being stated, I believe
that these kids should not have to suffer the consequences of eating the bad foods and should get
educated on what is actually good to eat. The school of education needs to take into account these
issues and make it so that students have to take mandatory classes on the food topic and how to
cook better foods. Taking a class on such a thing not only benefits the students and their lives, but
the future of America as well. The worst types of food that a single person could consume are the
fast, processed foods. According to Mark Bittman's article, "Bad Food? Tax It, and Subsidize

completely unfair to make healthy food too expensive for other people to buy, which causes them

of the health problems we have already in the United States. Another reason would be how the
only thing families can afford is cheap fast food, prices needs to be changed for healthy food so
people don't experience health problems from eating too much unhealthy food. These are two
main reasons why this is an issue in our country. If we lower the prices for healthy foods then we

there was never this many cases of obesity, and diabetes because there wasn't that many fast food

Should we really take eating healthy and exercising seriously? Exercise and eating healthy are two
of the most important things you need to do to take care of your body properly. Both exercise, and
eating healthy, have many advantages and benefits. They help with multiple things needed
throughout your life. These things include growing physically, mentally, and if you are religious,
spiritually as well. All of this adds up to your body functioning in the highest and best way
possible. People that has unhealthy eating habits, is at severe risk for obesity, diabetes and possible
stroke. Unhealthy eating habits have a harmful effect on the body. Today, Americans debate whether
eating healthy or exercising is worth the effort. According to Lisa Sherman, author of The Journal
of Chinese Medicine, "Exercise may make it easier to make healthy food choices by changing parts
of the brain that influence impulsive behavior. A review paper by US and Spanish authors proposes
that physical activity helps to enhance 'top–down' inhibitory control in the brain, making it easier to
resist unhealthy food and instead choose healthy options" (June 2012): p82. Thanks to our most
popular fast food restaurants, such as, McDonalds, Wendy's, Olive Garden etc. How could people
trick their brains into declining fast food and choose a more healthier option. There are a couple of
easy changes you can make that can have a profound effect on satiety – how full you feel. Research
shows that using smaller crockery tends to trick our brains into believing we are eating more, a
psychological phenomenon that can best be illustrated by looking at the Delboeuf optical illusion.
If you put two identical portions of food on a big plate and a small plate, the portion on the bigger
plate will look smaller, and vice versa: our brains can't help but be fooled by this effect, even when
we know they are the same. Consequently, eating unhealthy food choices could increase the risk of
diabetes. Having diabetes is something nobody wants, but could also not always be avoided. A
person could have diabetes and not know about it. According to, NIH.org, some of the symptoms of

Essay On Healthy Foods

  • 1. Persuasive Essay On Healthy Food In Schools A "healthy diet" is what most people claim as effective when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle. However, they fail to execute that type of eating themselves. School campuses and their cafeteria lunches are an example of a source that falsely advocates for a better and nutritious lifestyle, while not actually contributing to helping the well–being of their students. Although they always claim that they are encouraging healthy eating, the food provided at the schools say otherwise. It should be important to educate students on making the right choice to eat better so they would be aware of any health risks they might have. In order to provide students with healthier food options, schools should enforce fresher lunch alternatives and the decrease in junk foods in the vending machines on campus. Improving schools nationwide based on how they manage their junk food is significant since it determines the overall health of the students. Schools should provide a healthier lunch alternative to aid students to eat a more nutritious and harmless meal. Students should be given the option to eat a more wholesome meal instead of pizza and burgers, which are essentially junk and frozen foods. As a result, they will demonstrate positive results in stamina and their academics. These healthier alternatives will affect students in the long run. For instance, by giving them the option to choose between unhealthy and healthy foods, will encourage the practice of making good eating habits later in the future. Although many are aware that junk foods are unhealthy and is lacking with the proper nutrients, they don't truly know the actual consequences when it's being eaten. Many diseases such as diabetes are caused by unhealthy eating habits; these diseases can also be at risk of death. More individuals are at risk due to the junk foods that they are surrounded by. This is because nowadays, junk food locations or fast food franchises are opening more frequently than health–based restaurants. Businesses and their customers are the ones that seem to be contributing to the problem. Since fast food consumers tend to favor fast food places because it is mainly cheaper, quicker, and filling. The consumers prefer the low maintenance, Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Healthy Eating Research Paper Abstract Eating healthy is important for many reasons, it will promote intellectual development in children and adolescents prevent major health problems from developing and ensure a long and healthy life style. This research paper will introduce the importance of forming a healthy eating habit from a young age onto the senior years and will also point out some of the negative effects not eating healthy can cause such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, obesity, iron deficiency anemia, dental caries, under–nutrition, and eating disorders. During the past 20 years, there has been a substantial increase in obesity in the United States and rates remain high. More than one–third of U.S....show more content... Unlike diets, eating healthy is a not a temporary solution. Eating healthy and choosing a variety of foods from each food group – grams, proteins, fruits, vegetables and diary combined with routine physical activity can result in a long and healthy lifestyle. When choosing food for one's family it is important to look for food low in fat and sugar, relatively low in calories, rich in vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients important to health. Some examples of these types of foods are fruits and vegetables, whole grains, fat–free or low–fat milk, dairy products, lean meat, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, and nuts. There are some foods that are a little bit higher in calories, fat, and added sugars, which could be consumed on a less frequent basis. Foods highest in fat, added sugars and calories are often low in nutrients and therefore should only be eaten once in a while, such as special occasions in small portions. Some examples of these types of foods are fried vegetables, fruits canned in heavy syrup, doughnuts, sweet rolls, whole milk, untrimmed beef, cookies, pies, and sodas. Eat only when hungry and do not over eat. Overeating is one of the main problems people have when trying to maintain a healthy weight. If a person eats in moderation, he or she can enjoy any type of food, even sweets as long as it is in portioned size. Eating when hungry and stopping Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Benefits Of Eating Healthy Foods Essay My parents raised their eight children with the belief that eating healthy foods were crucial in maintaining proper growth and development. An abundance of fresh garden (organic) vegetables and fruits, dairy foods, and various selected meats was the norm in our household. Special deserts and treats were frequently provided too. My grandfather, with all good intentions, began purchasing cow's milk. He cared about his grandchildren very much and believed it to be nutritious. The taste can never be forgotten. It was painful to drink that glass of milk. A container full of chocolate syrup couldn't disguise the disgusting taste. Unfortunately, many of the foods we consumed are not considered to be healthy today. The recent graduate course, "Creating Health and Balance in Today's Classroom", along with a personal interest in my health and that of my loved ones, has enabled me to have a better understanding that specific foods impose a major health risk. Being conscience of what we eat is, frankly, a matter of life or death. Statistics list Heart disease as being the number one cause of death in our country. Yet, with a disciplined attitude, obtaining a healthy diet and lifestyle can prevent and reverse heart disease in many cases. Sadly, Many Americans, continue to eat unhealthy foods that cause unnecessary, early death. According to Campbell, T.C., & Campbell, T.M. (2004): Heart disease will kill one out of every three Americans. According to the American Heart Association, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Healthy Eating Essay How does healthy eating affect your life? Many people really pay attention to the food they put in their bodies, until we get sick and need medical attention. I know that many of us love to eat fast food, but it catches up with us in the long run. While eating healthy would stop you from getting sick, and lower the cost of health care, healthy eating can enrich your body and prevent you from getting high doctor bills. How can I eat healthier? Healthy eating means picking all natural foods from the basic food groups; meats, dairy, fruits and vegetables, grains and stop eating too many sweets and fats. The first step in eating healthy is to know the good fats from the bad fats. Fats are another vital part to a healthy diet. Good fats...show more content... Once you know what to eat, now you have to consume too much. One of the biggest problems with eating healthy knows when you have had enough. Not knowing when to stop can result in one developing an eating disorder. There are many types of eating disorders. The main two types of eating disorders people get from excessive eating is obesity and anorexia. Obesity is a disease of excess fat tissue in the body, or when someone eats too much. Anorexia is when someone who has a low self–esteem and often a tremendous need to control their surroundings and emotions by consuming as little food as possible. Someone who is overweight will eat because they are not happy with the way they look. Someone who suffers from anorexia starves themselves because they are unhappy with the way they look. People with these certain eating disorders should come together to help each other get through these hard times. One can get tired thinking about all of the sicknesses one could get from eating unhealthy. High medical bills can leave one bankrupt. The problem that comes with unhealthy eating also comes with high medical cost. Doctors who specialize in illnesses dealing with eating disorders and heart diseases tend to have high premium cost. You have to put at least six hundred dollars or more just for the visit. Medical illness can be a financial nightmare leading to bankruptcy. (Jeanie Lerche Davis, Feb. 2, 2005,). • 5. Persuasive Essay On Healthy Food When something is detrimental to our health, we strive to avoid it whenever possible to extend our lives. We know that exposure to known cancer causing agents such as asbestos and lead paint is harmful; therefore, we do not expose ourselves to the risk and we certainly do not eat it. This seems simple; however, what do we do when that harmful vice is food? We cannot stop eating; instead, we must closely examine what we are putting into our bodies. When faced with the choice of a burger or grilled vegetables, most would choose the burger. These choices have lead us down a path littered with food related diseases, illnesses and rising healthcare costs. The state of Americans health is declining due to increasing obesity, diabetes and...show more content... The advertisement sounds and looks believable until you read the label on the package. The salad dressing adds excessive calories and fat that often exceeds the amounts for a small hamburger, making it the unhealthy option. Society must educate itself on what type of food is healthy such as fresh or fresh frozen vegetables, lean meats, whole grains and fruits. Parents should take the time to explain what these are and why they are important, educating themselves if necessary. Families can also extend this education to a hands–on experience but starting a small vegetable garden which produces some of the vegetables they eat. Author and farmer, Sharon Astyk, and sustainable systems land planner, Aaron Newton, argue that people need to take back the control of the food selection and prices by growing their own or purchasing directly from local farmers. In their article, "The Rich Get Richer: the Poor Go Hungry", Astyk and Newton (2015) write, "When we grow our own food, or buy it directly from local farmers, we take power away from multinationals" (p.518). I agree that society should become more involved and self–sustaining pertaining to food to retain independence from companies that are loyal to shareholders. This education will provide the current and future generations necessary resources to make improved food choices, thereby reducing the obesity and diabetes epidemics gripping our nation. • 6. Healthy Food Essay The choices one makes everyday about what food to eat affect not only day to day life but have serious consequences for one's future. Eating healthy foods, with a diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables and has a good balance of all essential nutrients can make one feel happier and have more energy. It can also lead to increased life span and a better life over all. Diets rich in fatty food, and having a diet that is off balance with carbohydrates and other nutrients can lead to a decreased living standard. For people who eat excess milk, cheese, and meat, they may be putting themselves at risk, as these food are linked to saturated fat. Saturated fats can be converted into cholesterol, which in excess can cause problems such as heart disease. Overeating is also not good, as excess calories can lead to being overweight and eventually lead to obesity. Obesity is linked with the following diseases: type 2 diabetes, arthritis, heart disease, strokes, and high blood pressure. These are obviously detrimental to one's health and affect one's life for years and years to come. Obesity is a u=huge problem in the US with around 18% of children 6–11 being effected, and 21% of 12–19 year olds, and these kids will grow up unhealthy which will affect them for their whole lives. Eating unhealthy and making poor food choices will only hurt you, and over the years you will become more at risk for life threatening diseases. It is also harmful to one's health in the long run to undereat and not take in enough calories. Calories are the amount of energy in food, so in other words they are the energy we need to keep our bodies running and able to function day to day. • 7. Persuasive Essay On Healthy Food People all over the world have less or no access to Healthy Foods, and I feel if a rather large group of people could come together, they could supply healthy food to those in need, or at least the resources to make their own healthy food. Having just food in general is one thing, but having Healthy Food is key. Your body requires certain amounts of carbohydrates, protein, fats, vitamins, and minerals. Without those things your body will not function properly and you will not get to live your life fully. Want to lose weight? Have you thought about eating healthier? All the nutrients, proteins, vitamins you consume via healthy foods help that if that's something you worry about. I think schools need it more than anywhere because you see kids at school eating this junk that they either took or were given, and they don't function in their classes as well. Ask any teacher this is proven. Now look at the kids in your class who eat healthy meaning eating a good breakfast, and a good dinner the previous night. All the vitamins, proteins, etc. can improve brain activity, eye vision, and all sorts of other key things in a classroom. Now if the parents don't feed their children very well, then somebody should really step in and convince these parents to see what they're feeding their children because it's not good for them. However, there's only so much someone else can do for someone else's child. It is their kid. If you choose not to eat well, then that is your personal choice, Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Thesis Statement: Healthy eating is not something to worry about down the road; we need to act now, while we are young to develop good habits for the future. 1.Introduction: a.Attention Getter: I visited Holly Drougas–our very own licensed dietician here at Virginia Western. I asked her, "What is the first thing that comes to mind when I say the word 'Nutrition'?" She shocked me by saying, "Confusion". Relevance: When it comes down to it, I'm not going to shove kale down your throat if you tell me that you just hate kale, even though it appears to be another one of the big health crazes. I'm just trying to show you all that eating healthy doesn't have to be a miserable experience, and despite our limitations as college students, we can overcome the hurdles of Availability, Time, and Money, to maintain a healthy diet. e.Preview: So today, we're going to talk about the wonderful world of Nutrition, and I'm going to try to convince you that carrots and celery aren't just rabbit food, but people food too. 2.Problem Step: a.Internal Preview: So let's start with some reasons as to why so many people are confused about what to eat: misinformation and marketing. b.Since 1992 the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has provided the nutritional food pyramid, which has been the standard by which many have ascribed as far as recommended food intake. I'm sure this model looks familiar to most of you. c.Now, the USDA recommends "MyPlate", which was introduced in 2010, as the new guidelines for proper dietary Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The populous has acquired a bad habit of turning to convenience foods because of availability, taste and comfort. Thus to re–direct the health of the nation, people need to stop crippling their health by convenience foods and replace it with healthy, natural choices, otherwise the health of all will continue to decline. On an average, large amount of fast foods consumed on a daily basis, leads to the deterioration of an individuals' bodily health over time. Consuming more fruits, vegetables and healthy foods, will increase the life expectancy of most individuals. According to Donald D. Hensrud of the Mayo Clinic on Healthy Weight, "Eating well– choosing a plant–based diet, which emphasizes vegetables, fruits and whole grains – also will reduce your risks of some of our nation's biggest killers and related conditions. Many cancers, heart disease and high blood pressure, among other conditions, are linked to diet, most notably to diets high in fat and saturated fat. Even without weight loss, adopting a healthier eating style can be beneficial. (Hensrud 49)" The majority of Americans give the argument that healthy food takes up too much time. They state that they do not have enough time to prepare healthy meals with a busy schedule, whereas convenience foods are easily squeezed into a day. This common misconception often inhibits the populous from exerting any energy toward trying to accommodate a healthier lifestyle. As Hensrud states, "Cooking healthfully is not difficult to do, but it may involve rethinking your approach. (Hensrud 49)" Just a little prior preparation cuts time and effort in a tight schedule and healthy foods generally taste much better than foods from the local convenience restaurant. • 10. Persuasive Essay On Healthy Food Since the 1970's, the food industry has evolved in ways that have made purchasing foods convenient; but on the other hand, also affect our health. Some people may appeal to the mass production and convenience of processed and packaged foods while others may believe that healthy foods like vegetables and fruits are beneficial to their health. While food companies aim to minimize the time and costs of food production, they feel that it is justifiable to incorporate any harmful chemical to their foods. These processed foods contain chemicals that lead to health diseases over a period of time and consumption, and they also include fats, oils, salts and sugars. These few ingredients are not naturally derived from nature, which reveals how companies emulsify foods into harmful ingredients to ingest. Although processed and packaged foods are cheap and convenient, they ultimately are harmful to one's health because they cause health related diseases; therefore, one should incorporate more healthy food into their diet. One reason that healthy foods should be subsidized is because school districts need to change the food selection that they put out for students, because this harms their health. Many students have no choice but to consume the foods that school districts put out. In Alice Waters and Katrina Heron's essay, No Lunch Left Behind, they reveal that the National School Lunch Program needs to consider what foods they are giving to the students through their meals. Maartje Jongerius B1 Brigitte van Pelt Avans University of Applied Sciences Is Healthy Food Really As Healthy As They Want Us to Believe? Dieting, everybody does it nowadays. But is it as good as everyone hopes? Healthful food from the store often seems more healthy than it actually is. The industry tricks people by advertising false information. It is important that people really know what they eat, so they can eat as healthy as they actually want. However, not every piece of healthful food is unhealthy, no one will claim something like that. But dieting by drinking fruit juices from the store instead of soda and eating fat–free products from the supermarket will not improve the well–being of people (Gunnars, 2014b). In the following sections will be explained why those products are not healthy. Counterargument: In contrast to what is said in the introduction, not all kinds of healthful food are unhealthy. Healthful food can be healthy if it is made with the proper products which do not contain unhealthy supplements like extra sugar or artificial food colours. These products will be eaten in bigger portions and people will eat more often if they eat low–fat or light products. Eventually this will have the outcome that they will consume the same amount of calories as when they eat normal products. For the digestive system to work at optimal levels it needs to be able to secrete, digest, absorb and defecate regularly. Foods which are ideal for the digestive system are foods which haven't been tampered with and are still alive! These foods are cleansing, nutrient–rich and give us the most energy. WHAT ISN'T HEALTHY EATING? Obesity occurs over time when you eat more calories than you use. The balance between your genetic makeup, overeating, eating high–fat foods, and not being physically active. Being obese increases your risk of diabetes, heart disease, stroke, arthritis, and some cancers. If you are obese, losing even 5 to 10 percent of your weight can delay or prevent some of these diseases. For example, that means losing 10 to 20 pounds if you weigh 200 pounds. All of this can come from eating unhealthy foods. Anyone who struggles with food and eating can fall into habits that may lead to what professionals call disordered eating. Disordered eating can take many forms, ranging from unhealthy eating habits that keep you from losing weight. • 16. Persuasive Essay On Healthy Food Healthy Foods Are Not What They Seem Don't do drugs! We've all heard this popular slogan or statement used before somewhere in our day to day lives; especially as teenagers going to public schools. As students, we learn at our schools the dangers of all of the different types drugs and what they could do to us if we take them and get addicted. However, one issue that we do not talk about at schools is the dangers of unhealthy foods and the effects that it has on our bodies. In some cases, this is even a bigger epidemic than the one from drugs and is giving people in many cases diabetes and death. Children every year are growing up more and more obese with the numbers increasing only as time goes on and foods get worse. With that being stated, I believe that these kids should not have to suffer the consequences of eating the bad foods and should get educated on what is actually good to eat. The school of education needs to take into account these issues and make it so that students have to take mandatory classes on the food topic and how to cook better foods. Taking a class on such a thing not only benefits the students and their lives, but the future of America as well. The worst types of food that a single person could consume are the fast, processed foods. According to Mark Bittman's article, "Bad Food? Tax It, and Subsidize Vegetables," he claims "the average American consumes 44.7 gallons of soft drinks annually" (75). • 17. Persuasive Essay On Healthy Food Healthy food should be accessible to everyone. If healthy food isn't available for everyone all it's going to do is cause more and more health problems. If we made healthy organic food the same price as cheap unhealthy food there would be a big difference in the health of our country. It's completely unfair to make healthy food too expensive for other people to buy, which causes them to buy cheap unhealthy food, like off a dollar menu at a fast food restaurant. This issue needs to be put to an end. In Robert Kenner's film Food Inc. this topic is addressed. It says in the movie that low income families have no other choice but to buy cheap fast food. These families rarely get the chance to buy good, healthy, organic food because it's too...show more content... That's quite a few problems for one country and that is not even all of them. If this doesn't make you question our eating habits in the U.S. not sure what will because this is obviously a problem that needs to be fixed. Some reasons why healthy food needs to be available to everyone is because of all of the health problems we have already in the United States. Another reason would be how the only thing families can afford is cheap fast food, prices needs to be changed for healthy food so people don't experience health problems from eating too much unhealthy food. These are two main reasons why this is an issue in our country. If we lower the prices for healthy foods then we would see a big change in the health of our country. We already have too many health problems in the United States because of unhealthy, cheap food from fast food restaurants. A long time ago there was never this many cases of obesity, and diabetes because there wasn't that many fast food restaurants and one dollar menus. According to Lisa Sherman, author of The Journal of Chinese Medicine, "Exercise may make it easier to make healthy food choices by changing parts of the brain that influence impulsive behavior. A review paper by US and Spanish authors proposes that physical activity helps to enhance 'top–down' inhibitory control in the brain, making it easier to resist unhealthy food and instead choose healthy options" (June 2012): p82. Thanks to our most popular fast food restaurants, such as, McDonalds, Wendy's, Olive Garden etc. How could people trick their brains into declining fast food and choose a more healthier option. There are a couple of easy changes you can make that can have a profound effect on satiety – how full you feel. Research shows that using smaller crockery tends to trick our brains into believing we are eating more, a psychological phenomenon that can best be illustrated by looking at the Delboeuf optical illusion. If you put two identical portions of food on a big plate and a small plate, the portion on the bigger plate will look smaller, and vice versa: our brains can't help but be fooled by this effect, even when we know they are the same. Consequently, eating unhealthy food choices could increase the risk of diabetes. Having diabetes is something nobody wants, but could also not always be avoided.
