1. HALLOWEEN’ S CURSE
The story began in 1941, when Spain was
going through a dark time. Franco had
decided to join the Nazi´s war and offered
our territory to place executions. Teachers
and other literary figures against the
ruling dictatorships were sent here to
disappear. Motril was a key geographical
point, as the port allowed many prisoners
to come easily every month.
Prisoners were kept in primitive caves up
the hill, communicated through gloomy tunnels that were used by the soldiers to move
around. Massive executions and other horrible tortures took place right where almost four
decades later a high school was built. This new school was inaugurated in 1978 and called
“La Zafra”.
Through the following school generations, a series of episodes of terror and unexplained
circumstances have shaken our existence here.
Everything started the 31st
of October, considered in Spain as the
previous day to All Saints´Day. The whole school suffered the
first tragic episode when the music teacher, Cándido Terrón
Muñoz, was stabbed in strange circumstances.
At 11:33, a scream petrified everybody at the school. The music
teacher was found dead in the music classroom, with a knife in
his chest. Since then, some weird noises are heard at the music
classroom, such as pianos or guitars playing alone.
Another case happened few years later, with the terrifying case of
a Chemistry teacher. He burned the laboratory with some
unfortunate students inside. Nobody heard the screams as the lessons were in the
afternoon. Everybody thought that he had turned himself mad. This tragedy is still
remembered today each October as one of the saddest days of the school.
The last case happened 10 years ago, when the school was preparing a party for the 31st
October. Following the Anglo-Saxon tradition of Halloween, the English Department
prepared a celebration. Everybody wore costumes: clowns, vampires, witches…. Many people
came from the neighbour to enjoy but it ended very soon: some kids and mothers were
attended by the medical services as they were badly hurt at the playground.
Parties since then at Halloween are strictly forbidden.
This year, students of 4th
of ESO and 2nd
of Bachillerato are decided to break the curse.
