6. What is Contemporary Philippine
Music?
It refers to the compositions that
have embraced elements and ideas
from the 20th century in the West
and musical styles in the
entertainment industry.
It is an ambiguous term used to refer
to music that came up after the
1940s.
7. During the Spanish and American
colonization in the Philippines from the
early 1500s to the late 1800s, it was
inevitable to be influenced by Western
music. Yet, the 20th century Filipino
composers still managed to retain
traditional music which became the
strongest foundation of Philippine
music.

harmonies that are dissonant most of

sound. These can be seen a lot in metal, rock,
or electronic music).
9. 3. Contemporary music uses
electronically created or synthetic
sounds.

lip-vibrated instruments and
percussion instruments.
