2. Presenting my planning
egoldie.blogspot.com
I created my own personal BlogSpot account so I
could upload and present documents with comments
annotating on my work and how this helps me with
my own soap.
I will also comment on my own work and explain why
I have done this in depth.
3. Q1.
In what ways does your media product
use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
4. Planning Q1.
To keep all my planning
in order clearly, I used
blogspot.com and
created my own account,
this enabled me to
present all my planning
and make notes and
deconstruct the specific
planning notes, story
boards, and scripts I had
produced.

6. Soaps, Forms and Conventions Q1.
Before we start to produce our own trailer for a Soap Opera it is important
to understand how the codes and conventions are shown and how they
work.
To understand how these forms and conventions are shown in a soap, we
must deconstruct and evaluate an existing TV Soap Opera. These next few
slides will show how I have taken apart an episode from an existing soap
and use these conventions when producing my own soap opera.
7. Evaluating an existing Soap Opera Q1.
Costumes are quite
cheap and tacky, and
also very dated, this

audience feel that they are

10. Comparison Panning Shot
Natural use of make up, sense of realism.
Big Close Up
Natural light in every shot type, makes
the soap look realistic.
We purposely shot in the day to get a
good tone of natural light, even when
filming inside we got the same
brightness and tone of natural light
Medium Close Up
11. Comparison Q1.
Our set throughout is very neutral looking
which makes the mise en scene stand out
more than it would on a normal soap. You
can see this by the shot below from
Hollyoaks.
We used the same shot type as the
clip on the right. You can see the
difference between my soap and
Hollyoaks. Hill Top Farm is „classier‟
than Hollyoaks from the colours and
clarity of the camera filter.
12. Evaluating an existing Soap Opera Q1.
A common theme in our soap was to create tension by ending dramatic
clips in slow motion, we did this to emphasise what is going on, to make
sure the audience get a better understanding of what is happening.
13. Creating Mise En Scene Q1.
In our trailer for Hill Top Farm we created various themes to match the characters
personality, and their role in the soap. These include the following:-
Important shot- two arrows indicating different Messy lipstick on their faces =
directions, bigger arrow pointing in Bella‟s messy relationship
direction ( she is the biggest part of his
life)where as Sambuca‟s is small.
High angle shot to represent
that Bella is dominant
because she knows their
secret.
Sambuca – Throughout she is wearing dark red, this indicates she is a promiscuous
character. She also makes her self up heavily with bright red lipstick and dark black make
up on her eyes, almost as if she is hiding herself.
14. Creating Mise En Scene Q1.
Holding a folder
Linking arms, not stereotypical containing work,
body contact in a relationship – shows she is doing
parting away well for herself,
Sleeping turned away from contrasting to
each other reflecting their Sambuca
relationship
Bella – In the soap Bella is always wearing neutral coloured clothing, supported by her
natural hair style & make up. This makes the audience know she is the innocent character
in this soap, and Bella‟s appearance completely contrasts to Sambuca‟s cheap
appearance.
Archie – At the start of the trailer Archie is wearing a plain white t-shirt, this shows that he
is playing innocent when he is with Bella. But when the scene changes to Archie and
Sambuca his clothing changes to a vivid orange which means danger is ahead.
15. Creating Mise En Scene Q1.
Set is like a normal everyday
household but when she drops the Set is very rural as if mark is in
bombshell its not like every other hiding.
teenagers house.
Mother – In the short clip that she is in, she is wearing all black, this means she is hiding a
very big secret and is hiding it from people around Hill Top Farm.
Mark – Mark is the local murderer, he also wears black throughout the trailer to indicate
that he is purposely hiding his true identity and the gloves are worn to hide traces of him
when killing his next local of Hill Top, this also shows that he is a wanted man.
16. Creating Mise En Scene Q1.
We then see mark hiding behind
the tree, we know what is going to
happen next and the chorus then
Hand held camera, like Mark is kicks in
spying on her from up close.
Shaken camera to build up tension
Sarah– She is dressed as an every day normal teenager, but placed in a rural setting.
The speech is the main importance to this clip as her friend is checking up on her as she
knows she shouldn‟t be in this forest because that‟s where the local murderer captures
his victims
17. Narratives Q1.
Storyline one:-
Emma - Sarah
Joe - Mark
Storyline two :- Tiff – Sambuca, Max – Archie, Emma G - Bella
Storyline three:-
Emma H - Rachael
Tiff‟s Mum - Mother
18. Music chosen for the trailer Q1.

Set Fire To The Rain lyrics
I let it fall, my heart, Archie has to claim the baby is his
And as it fell you rose to claim it
It was dark and I was over Dark and sad time for Sambuca and
Until you kissed my lips and you saved me Archie
My hands, they're strong
But my knees were far too weak
Bella finding Archie and Sambuca arm
To stand in your arms in arm
Without falling to your feet
The beat of “arms” Bella drops her
But there's a side to you folder to cause a noise.
That I never knew, never knew.
All the things you'd say
They were never true, never true, “But I” when Bella hits

[Chorus:]
But I set fire to the rain,

Watched it pour as I touched your face, matches length of the word “pour”
Well, it burned while I cried
'Cause I heard it screaming out your name, your name!
