1. In what way does your media
product use, develop or
challenge forms and
conventions of real media
products
2. The demographic of my target audience is 15+ after doing some film
rating research, I decided that my horror movie trailer could include a lot
more tension and horror. My trailer, poster and movie magazine featured
the protagonist who is 19 years old which is a similar age to my target
audience so that the movie seems a lot more relatable and realistic as the
viewers could think that it may happen to them.
The audience for my film would be working-middle class. I wanted to have
a specific focus on a demographic as it enabled me to focus on specific
conventions that would appeal to these specific people.
3. Media Platforms and Genre
Conventions
I presented my media trailer on YouTube however I displayed my ancillary
texts via blogger.
The genre of my media project is horror, I had to stick with many
conventions so that it followed the typical features in a horror film.
I took a lot of inspiration from the film ‘Orphan’ as the film mainly focuses
on the protagonist, which is what I decided to do for my trailer. The
convention of just focusing on the protagonist allowed me to hone in on
her emotion and mental state throughout the trailer.
4. Conforming to conventions
As my film trailer was in the horror genre I tried to conform to as many
conventions as possible as I wanted it to appear as scary as possible.
I used a variety of shots throughout my media products such as close ups
and longshots
I used close up shots of the protagonist looking very scared and afraid
about what is going to happen whereas I made the antagonist have shots
which were mid-long. As I didn’t want the audience to see the antagonists
face and create a mysterious and creep feel towards that character.
5. Have they proven successful?
I think the conventions have been successful as the trailer leaves you
questioning certain parts of the film, so people will be more enthralled to
watch it.
