• The purpose of the revised standard is to “Provide organizations with a
framework to protect the environment and respond to changing
environmental conditions in balance with socio-economic needs.”
• The revised standard makes clearer reference to the two-way relationship
between organisations and the environment, e.g. the organisation shall
consider environmental conditions being affected by or capable of
affecting the organisation (ISO 14001:2015 clause 4.1).
