Awareness raising, including participation of industry representatives in technical fairs
Market assessment and policy analysis for selected/priority sectors
Assessment of companies’ potential for eco-innovation and provision of advisory
services (including training of trainers) for business strategy development

Eco-innovation is one of the key enabling instruments identified by the EU for the transition to a more resource-efficient economy. Eco-innovation can help SMEs in reducing inputs, recovering materials and minimising waste, as well as extending product or service life cycle.

Eco-innovation operates at the level of a company strategy aiming to embed sustainability into the DNA of a company.

Output 2.6 Ecological value-chain and product innovation
Aim: Assist SMEs to evaluate their position in the value chain, by analysing the hotspots that affect their business, and to seek innovative solutions in collaboration with value chain partners to strengthen their market position and competitiveness.
Public institutions, national technical institutions and SMEs are trained on eco-innovation and, where applicable, related business strategies/plans are developed for selected SMEs based on the eco-innovation potential.
Activity 2.6.1: Organize national trainings on sustainable production/eco-innovation approach
Introduce the eco-innovation approach (workshop may be organized back to back with UNIDO’s RECP workshops),
Activity 2.6.4: Awareness raising activity carried out among business sector and government
Develop and distribute information materials for example, video or infographics,
Facilitate the participation of selected industry representatives (business associations) in a technical fair to enhance understanding of the global/regional market opportunities as well latest technological trends.
Activity 2.6.2: Conduct market assessment for the selected sectors and policy analysis to enhance eco-innovation potentials
Conduct a market assessment for selected sectors (building on the RECP assessment and sectoral studies developed by UNIDO).
Analyse eco-innovation policies and policy instruments
Present the analysis for review at an inter-ministerial policy dialogue platform.
Activity 2.6.3: Assess selected companies’ potential for eco-innovation and, if applicable, provide advisory services for business strategies/plan development for eco-innovation
Select national technical institutes (in consultation with the government) and provide training to strengthen its technical capacity to lead eco-innovation work.
Identify companies through a nation-wide call for proposals
International experts and national institutions jointly assess the eco-innovation potential of current production processes of selected companies.
…and assist with developing/re-aligning business strategies for these SMEs on a case-by-case basis.
