1. THURSDAY
Analyze Learners
There are 21 students in the class, all of which are either 11th
or 12th
graders. They all come from homes
in the lower or middle classes. Most were born and raised in the Appalachian culture, although I have
one foreign exchange student from Germany. All have had a previous introductory level chemistry
course. Most are hands-on learners, although a few prefer to learn and prove through mathematics as
much as they can. They understand and apply concepts well through student-led practice.
State Objectives
Students will complete a titration lab by following their lab handout, using appropriate lab apparatus,
referring to a poster of titration setup with 95% accuracy by the end of the day. Students will perform,
record, and narrate the reaching of their endpoint of the titration with 100% accuracy by the end of the
day.
Select Methods, Media, and Materials
Students will use a poster to set up their titrations. Students will follow lab instructions with
procedures/safety sections that were written by them as part of their WebQuest. Students will record
their endpoint and narrate what is chemically and/or procedurally happening.
Utilize Media and Materials
Apparatus poster, lab handout, lab equipment, and video camera
Require Learner Participation
Students will do and record their lab. This is the basis of their grade.
Evaluate
Students will be formally assessed from their video; their execution and following of directions as well as
the accuracy of the narration in the video.
