Students will learn about pH, pOH, Ka, Kb, and Kw through a combination of lecture, video, group work, and practice problems. There are 21 students in the class from a variety of backgrounds but most with a previous chemistry course. Objectives are for students to describe pH and pOH, prove relationships among the equilibrium constants, and solve related problems with 80% accuracy. Methods include lecture, discussion, video, individual and group practice problems, and using an online pinboard to find real-world examples of acids and bases. Students will be evaluated based on their practice work and discussion participation.
