1. Looking back at your preliminary task (the continuity
editing task), what do you feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to full product?
Though this whole project I have learnt so much about all the
different types of camera shots, camera movements, sounds, filming
and editing and I think by doing the preliminary task helped me so
much in the final task of the film opening as it made me more aware
for everything.
The thing it made me most aware about is shot types and how many
different ones there is to use like long/mid/close up shots, as well as
match on action and shot reverse shots. As we used a shot reverse
shot in our preliminary task-
Which we also then used in our final task-
we also used many different angle in our final task than we used in
our preliminary task as we realized it looks much more interesting
from different angels so in our final task we used high angles and low
angles compared to our straight on angle we used though out our
other task. It also made us more aware not to miss out shots and to
take extra shots that you might not even use as on our preliminary
task we missed out one of our main shots and we didn’t have time to
2. go back and re film it so we had to cover it up by cutting from shot to
shot and even though it didn’t look that bad in the end it was still not
how we wanted it to look so in our final task we took each shot at
least twice and took extra one that we ended up using in the end.
Also when we were filming our preliminary task we didn’t have a
tripod so we borrowed one from school yet it was very flimsy and
hard use, so we made sure for our final task we had all the equipment
we needed and got it all ready before hand rather than on the day.
Also in when we were doing our preliminary task we didn’t really
know that much about all the editing as we had never used final cut
before but thought the project we learnt how to use it much more
which meant our final task we edited much better by using different
transition and then in out final task we had to
have text and a title where as we didn’t need
one in our preliminary task. Also with this task
we all sat down together and edited as this
was easier to make decisions and picking clips
where as before we all edited at different
times which made it hard to decide which clips
to use which over all I found took longer.
Also though out the process I have found that it takes a lot of
planning and that you cant just turn up and expect it to happen, I
found this out by doing the preliminary task as we knew what we
wanted to happen but we hadn’t written down all
the shots and who we need for each shot and the
props, so we found that people were just waiting
around and we weren’t all on the same page when
it came to what the shots were going to look like,
where as when we did our final task we wrote
down a schedule so we planned what was going to
happen in each shot, what people were needed,
costumes and props. This meant no one was
waiting around and the whole process was a lot
quicker as we knew what was happening.
So over all I found out there was much more to the project than I
originally though and the biggest thing I found out thought the
process from the preliminary to the final task is that it takes a lot of
planning. Whatever your dong has to be planned before hand
otherwise nothing gets achieved in the end.
