Thessaloniki, Greece's second largest city, was founded in 315 BC and became an important metropolis during the Roman period. It has a rich history, including being liberated from occupation in 1912 and hosting Olympic events in 2004. Due to its diverse history, Thessaloniki has many museums showcasing artifacts from ancient Macedonia and galleries relating to the city's past housed in the White Tower.
