Metaphors Of Ephesians 1
In Ephesians 1 verse 11 it means that if you are a believer, God has assigned you to His chosen life.
That we have been chosen as Gods portion and He has appointed you to Himself. It also means that
God has chosen us as His inheritance. This is one of the many blessings which we have as believers.
God does this according to His purpose and His will. God is never forced by anyone or anything
outside of Him. Everything is under His control and is part of His plan. Every flower and plant –
God controls its birth, it's growth and its death. Laws such as gravity and physics are under His
control. God never makes mistakes! He is in control of all creation and nothing is by chance. There
is nothing outside of His control. When I read this verse, it means to me that I was planned to be on
this Earth, by God. I was thought about even before my mom and dad were born. That God picked
my mom and dad just for me. God has a plan for my life and I should be looking for His will in my
life and to live it. God controls everything that happens to me and will happen to me. God knows
my future and my destiny. Ephesians 1 verse 12 talks about Gods work of the Father. God does
everything for a purpose and to glorify Himself. God does this so that all created beings and events
will bring him glory. God is love, pleasure, will,

Apostle Paul Use Of The Armor Of God
Hermeneutical Application by George Mburu, KE100653
Apostle Paul use of the Armor of God
The author undertakes an application of biblical Hermeneutics in respect to the Apostle Paul's
address of the armor of God to the Ephesian Church. Actually, the author comes alive to the need of
proper Hermeneutic skills for right application of the biblical Corpus. Indeed, the use of necessary
tools has been encouraged for better application of the Scriptures. Towards the end of the essay, the
author makes tentative conclusions.

Greco–Roman, kingdom, struggle, believer, victory
Introduction
The term "Hermeneutics" comes from a Greek word, that means "to interpret" hence it signifies
interpretation of literary text to the fullest measure. In addition, for that practice, sound principles
must be employed in the interpretation of the text. Therefore, one realizes that, when exegesis
concerns itself with the meaning of a text to its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author explains about the warfare and how a soldier was equipped. The enemies are categorized
into four main ones, I) Principalities/authorities II) rulers, III) Powers IV) forces of wickedness in
the heavenly realm. A sage once commented that, "Those who conquer the skies also conquer the
earth". And definitely sure, once believers conquer evil powers, principalities who rule different
spheres of influence, and evil rulers in the dark world, win victory. However, as the Apostle Paul,
Craig and other authors argue, the challenge holds a spiritual warfare (cosmic–the unseen world).
Accordingly, the reader and the interpreter should appreciate that the cosmic is real and troubles
many hence the insistence of the apostle Paul for

Ephesians 6:12 says, "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against
powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Paul emphatically instructs his readers concerning spiritual warfare that Christians are involved in
and his definition, at least to me, is a chilling reminder that we are engaged in a battle.
The Bible contains numerous scriptures and accounts of spiritual warfare, too numerous for us to
deny the fact that it does exist. Now the level of our battles varies from person to person,
nevertheless, a relationship with Jesus signifies we are engaged in a battle with our adversary. There
is a good and an evil, there is a right and a wrong, there is righteousness and unrighteousness, there
is black and white and there is a God and a devil.
I grasp that in this age of enlightenment, spiritual warfare ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

There are times it is necessary for us to assume the defense posture, however, we are also
encouraged to be on the offense.
Ephesians 6:13–18, the famous text on putting on the whole armor of God, teaches us that this
armor isn't just about being ready to be attacked and to survive on defense, but it is about being
prepared to proceed with the attack. In verse 13, the word "withstand" does not denote to "survive"
an attack, it signifies to oppose the enemy. This scripture teaches God's warriors to be on the offense
and then follows with the equipment to accomplish the task.
Warfare possesses a defensive posture, however, warfare also contains an offensive position. As
Christians, we should position ourselves to be ready to defend but it is to our advantage to be on the
offense as the Word of God teaches. We possess the ability to take the fight to the adversary with the
strength and power of the Word of God, with prayer and with the Spirit of

Augustine's Letter To The Ephesians
The journey of Saint Augustine into finding his faith is depicted through his writings in Confessions.
Augustine was born in the year 354 AD in Hippo, a region in North Africa. Today, he is regarded to
be one of the most important influencers of the development of early Christianity. However, he is
not a typical saint; It took him years of philosophizing and experiential learning to be able to accept
and appreciate the Christian faith. Despite pressures from Augustine's religiously devout mother
Monica, who spent her life trying to sway Augustine in the direction of Christianity, Augustine
firmly held the belief that Christianity was far too simple to fulfill his spiritual desires. Augustine
constantly wrestled with an internal struggle of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Paul's letter to the Ephesians is written while he is held in prison. He proposes a guideline based on
the gospel to explain how to live a life filled with God's grace. Paul writes that before the
introduction of Jesus' teachings, people were trapped in a life of sin, hopelessness, and greed. Now,
Jesus has provided a way for people to manifest a new form of humanity. This humanity is meant to
be celebrated through God's grace. Although Paul is in prison, he is still able to look to God to help
him, while appreciating the gift of God's grace. This emphasized how Paul is a model for followers
of Jesus because he looks toward his faith to guide him through a troubled time. Paul sets up a
conclusion to his letter by comparing the principles of an old humanity versus the desired principles
of a new humanity. For example, Paul encourages truth over lies, peace over anger or hatred, and
forgiveness over retribution. In other terms, Paul is discouraging sinful attributes and encouraging
the attributes that will lead to living a faithful life under the word of God. Paul concludes his
message to the Ephesians with a passage that provides a summation of what it takes to live life as a
devout and true follower of Jesus. He writes, "Put on the armor of God so that you may be able to
stand firm against the tactics of

Ephesians Rebellion
Plinking into a small, cold pool from the razor tip of a hanging stalactite, the minuscule droplets
reverberated through the musty cavern. Through the stillness seeped a moan, more likely felt than
heard. Awakening after centuries awaited under cold stone covered in frosty starlight, the great
monster stirred, unfurling with life, raising its hideous, stunted head with a yawning, fanged mouth,
and inducing a rumble to shake the foundations of the earth. Soon the world would know the wrath
and terror of the imprisoned. Human hearts house in them an evil so vile it threatens to upheave the
universe: the absolute rejection of everything right and pure, the wholehearted rebellion against a
kind Creator. Fell in nature, sinful, human hearts breed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whether that sin pertains to a teen or his parents, in which the teen clutches to his true Master in
surrender rather than follow his parents into death, the monster belches forth its refuse upon the
world. Rebellion hurls upon the bearer, regardless of his ultimate innocence, a multitude of earthly
quandaries, effects that spring from the fallen world which Adam hewed. Rending relationships,
piling stress upon the hurting, devastating previous trust, and smiting a blow to the depths of the
soul, sin utterly mocks God's pure perfection. Rebellion taunts the Ruler of the Universe. On this
good earth two consequences ultimately result: maturity found through these hardships or a
hardening of the gaping pit of sin. If the teen humbly endures the marks he will mature towards
wisdom that only God can lend. On the other hand, should the teen delve deeper into the chasm of
sin, holding out bitterly against the consequences, he will pour upon his life such hideous damage
that can only find repair through more pain. For rebellion constitutes sin and sin deserves eternal
damnation in Hell. Two choices: wisdom through pain or unending

Book Of Ephesians Essay
Background: According to some insights I read on the book of Ephesians it explains that in this
book Paul does not attempt to address any Finaone problem but instead takes the protective
measures to prevent any future problems. So by this point in the book of Ephesians he trying to
encourage them to walk in line with God and to do what the lord says does. Now Paul having been
thru a lot for Christ, so he knows what he is talking about. Paul was now a prisoner at Rome; be he
says prisoner of the Lord, or in the Lord. He also says this in Eph. 3:1. to show that he was not
ashamed of his bonds with God , well knowing that he suffered not as a person who did the wrong
things. So in the first two verse that is my focus today we are going to look at how Paul makes his
purpose clear the he expects that this community of faith would walk in accordance with its
heavenly calling. Which brings me to my first point. 1. Living up to you Calling Eph. 4:1 Verse 1 I,
therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were

Interpretation
The Relationship Between Man and Wife
As previously noted, the culture Paul was speaking to invoked the patriarchal view of the household
common in Greco–Roman culture. Though modern society no longer reflects these patriarchal
views, they were the "social realities within which believers in Ephesus and elsewhere found
themselves." Rather than overturn these social realities or ignore the standard conventional
household structures, Paul sought to give his audience "guidance about how to best live in those
households as followers of Christ." Therefore, when Paul spoke regarding marital relationships he
did so with the predisposition towards the husband as the ultimate authority in the home.
In this sense, wives were already ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Paul's words about the relationship between husbands and wives serve not only as a guide for
Christian marriages, but also a method of explaining the relationship between Christ and the church.
This section of Ephesians illustrates two important facets of Christianity: the nature of the church's
submission to Christ and the nature of Jesus's love for the church. As noted before, Paul had already
taken time in this letter to assert the headship of Christ in Ephesians 1:22, 4:15, and now in 5:23.
Jesus, as the authority and center of the church, is due reverence and submission from the church.
Throughout Ephesians, Paul calls believers to recognize the "lordship of Christ" and then to act on
that acknowledgement through willing submission. Jesus's love for the church is exemplified in the
laying down of his life for her salvation. Paul recalls the sacrifice of Christ frequently his letter,
beginning in Ephesians 1:7 – "In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our
trespasses, according to the riches of his grace." Here, in Ephesians 5:25, Paul again tells the church
the Christ "gave himself up for her." Christ's love is sacrificial and he is the Savior of the church
(Eph. 5:23). Furthermore, Jesus "nourishes and cherishes" the church, as if it were his own body
(Eph. 5:29), displaying a love that is unforced and freely given. Paul also shows that Christ's love is
purpose–filled. Jesus's death and resurrection serves to sanctify the church so "that she might be
holy" (Eph. 5:26–27). Though believers are still sinful, "the Christ who pledges himself to the
church will establish the church's holiness, recalled yet forgiving her

The Testament Of The Ephesians
Paul, who is the author of Ephesians, is writing to the church in Ephesus and possibly surrounding
Asia minor cities. He wrote the book of Ephesians sometime between AD 60–62 when he was
imprisoned in Rome (3:1, 4:1, 6:20). The letter was taken to Ephesus by Tychicus (vs 6:21–22). Paul
knew that the Christians in Ephesus and the surrounding towns were growing and had heard about
their faith so he addresses the Ephesians as a corporate body (Hultgren, 2015). At the time, Ephesus
was a thriving city and the capitol of the providence of Asia. It was a city that was strategically
located to encourage trade routes that would attract people from all over. Today, Ephesus' ruins are
located in modern day Turkey where people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Context Literary: Most of Paul's letters are written as expositions which are carefully reasoned
explanations of his letter and well thought out words that are crucially placed to build agreement
and action among the people (Hendricks and Hendricks, 2007, p. 224). However, this particular
passage of Ephesians 3: 14–21 is a prayer among his exposition.
Right before this passage, Paul pleads with the Ephesians that the church needs to be made known
of the "authorities in the heavenly places" (Ephesians 3:10) so that they may have confidence in
their faith (vs 12). Paul starts verse 14 with "For this reason" showing his readers that this is why he
is adding a prayer in the middle of his discussion.
Content:
Paul uses this interchange in prayer as a Chiasm which is a list of ideas that are structured to parallel
each other in certain lines such as line A, line B, line C, line B, line A (Duvall and Hays, 2012, p.
100). He starts the prayer out with Praise to the Father with words such as "I bow my knees before
the Father" (vs 14). He then explains God's great power in verses 15 and 16. Finally, he states his
purpose of the prayer in verse 17 with words such as "so that". In verses 17–19 he tells us the
purpose which is three–fold: that Christ may dwell in our hearts, to know the love of Christ, and to
be filled with fullness of God. In verse 20 he goes back to talking about God's great power and in
verse 21 he closes the prayer with more

Christian Vs Ephesians
Christianity is not an ideal, it's a lifestyle choice. You are not born into a religion, you are not a
Christian, Jewish, Buddhist or any specific religion from birth, you are raised as to be that religion.
C.S. Lewis is an example of someone who was brought up in a Protestant household, lost faith
through his teen years and found Christianity in college. We develop our religion throughout our
years, growing more knowledgeable from our experiences and realizing that each of God's teachings
can relate back to us on a day–to–day basis. Each book in the Bible is like stories with a lesson.
Mere Christianity taught similar lessons to those in the Bible, but with a philosophical point of view.
C.S. Lewis could take his experiences and relate them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Nicene Creed, it is said that God is the maker of heaven and earth, and all things visible and
invisible. Lewis talks about a crown, which is a symbol for God and eternity (Lewis 137). Without
God, having created heaven and earth or having the power to create an afterlife, there would be no
basis for people to be decent or live just lives. The Nicene Creed relates to C.S. Lewis' Mere
Christianity because one provides the creation of an afterlife and the other provides imagery of the
divine life to come. In the memory text of Ephesians, it talks about how God gave us Jesus Christ
through his will and then about the crucifixion of Christ and how that lead to forgiveness of our
sins, which was a fulfillment in Christ. The first two sections of the Nicene Creed are about God and
Jesus. The sections talk of God being the Father and Jesus is the only Son of God, then further down
talks about how Jesus was crucified and then rose again. These two sections are relative to each
other because they talk about Jesus being crucified and then rising again for the forgiveness of our
sins, which is the basis of the religion Christians believe

White Christianity In Ephesians
When black slaves were brought from Africa over to the New World, they were ripped away from
their cultures, customs, and religion. Most slaves would later become Christians due to colonialist
ideology, but the problem with this was that christianized slaves posed a threat to slave systems.
Christianity taught blacks to see themselves as equals to their white counterparts in the eyes of God,
therefore in the church, blacks began to question the Christian hierarchy imposed by protestant
preachers which stated that slaves were bound to obey their masters. White Christians justified their
rights to enslave blacks with biblical verses such as those found in Ephesians: Ephesians 6:5–9New

Analysis Of The Book ' Ephesians '
What is the significance of mentioning the coming ages? Where is this being addressed? Was there a
strong understanding of who Satan was? The genre of Ephesians is Epistles. Read the whole epistle
in one sitting to get the big idea of the letter and its main contours. Try to write a big idea/theme of
the book after reading it. Think in terms of the paragraphs being the main units of thought. Beware
of isolating verses from the paragraph. Knowing the structure of epistles helps you know where you
are in the letter. Do some background reading in order to understand better the epistle's main
contours and its historical and cultural setting. Paul wrote the book of Ephesians, while he was
imprisoned. The date that Ephesians was written is best dated between 60–90 AD, but closer to 90
since Ignatius is the earliest known person to quote it. Traditionally it is understood that this letter
was written to believers in Ephesus of Asia Minor. Through this book Paul reveals who we are with
and without Christ. Ephesians discusses the topic of blending the Jewish and non–Jewish Christians
into one community. The reoccurring theme in Ephesians is God's purpose and plan in offering
redemption to His people and the manifestation of that purpose in the life of the believer. Ephesians
seeks to shape believers by reminding them how wonderful God's work in Christ is, how significant
their unity with Christ is, and what living for Christ looks like. Redemption has made it possible for

Critique Of Ephesians 2
In the book of Ephesians 6:13–17 the bible talks about the putting on the full armor of God. In this
verse, the Christians are told to prepare for the spiritual war against the devil and human
weaknesses. Various versions of the bible that talk about the Armor of God. According to the verse,
there is the war against the Christians, and the people are warned against that. We are encouraged to
use the Armor as guidance in the fighting the Satan.
Description of the Armor of God According to St. Paul Ephesians is one of the letters written by St.
Paul while he was in prison. Paul was detained by the Roman army, and during his stay in jail, he
compared the soldier's armor and the spiritual Armor. He tells the Christians about the tactics and
devices that the devil uses against the people of God (2Corinthians 2:11, New International Version)
he talks to the people through this verse about the ways of dealing with the stealthy ways of Satan.
Paul addresses the people on the ways of dealing with this in the book of Ephesians 6:10–20. He
explains to the Ephesians about the wearing the Armor of God. In verse 10 he wrote "Finally, my
brethren, be strong in the Lord and the power of His might" Paul tries to speak to the Christians
about the ways of guarding themselves against the enemy. His message to the people of God
according to the book of Ephesians, he was encouraging the people not to fear the devil and his
plans. He says "Put on the whole Armor of God, which you may be able to

The Story Of Ephesians
Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of

three month hospital stay on a cold, snowy winter's morning and made him as comfortable as
possible. There was nothing more the doctors could do so we were determined to make his last days
as special as he was! On a Wednesday evening at around 4:30 pm he called me and asked me this
question, "Judy, would you come over and cut my hair?" I said, "Sure dad, I'll be over tomorrow
morning after I get the boys off to school." He went on, "No, I would like you to do it tonight." I
thought why tonight of all nights?? I had to get supper on the table, the boys ready for a Royal
Ranger's Program, get new snow tires on the car and get ready for church. Church started at 7:00

explained all the things I had going on and told him I would be there first thing in the morning."
However, that still wasn't good enough and once again he said, "I need you to cut my hair tonight." I
thought for a moment and then said, "Dad, where in the world are you going that you need your hair
cut tonight? Why can't it wait until morning?" I heard the let down in his voice as he said, "Okay,
we'll see." and we hung up. My dad died during that night. Those were not the words I would have

need to use our words in such a way that people know: We care enough about them to encourage
them onward in their endeavors. We realize the blessings we have in our family, friends,

Ephesians: A Literary Analysis
A literary analysis is the practice of looking closely at small parts to see how they affect the whole.
Literary analysis focuses on how word techniques are used by the author to create meaning. One of
the reasons that Paul penned his letters in Ephesians was to bolster areas that were weak in the
church. In addition to that, Paul wanted to clarify central beliefs that may not have been well–
defined. Probing Paul's letter with such a supposition, reveals several frailties among the Ephesian
that Paul needed to encourage and reinforce. One of these weaknesses are amalgamated with the
word riches, which is present throughout the letter in Ephesians. In this portion of the essay I will
break a portion of the text down into parts, in order to examine the different elements of this piece
of literature, by analyzing a portion of the text.
Paul was disquieted about their lack of expectancy as it pertained to the gospel and the hope that
was. Imaginably they were bemused by the situation that life present. Maybe their toil with hope
was because of their misconception that God was not rich or charitable towards them, they had
trouble believing God to be so rich to them. Because of their vulnerabilities, that really were issues
of faith, they robbed themselves of experiencing the fullness of God's power. The power to: ... Show

Religion In The Book Of Ephesians
Each verse in this passage is in the contexts of what a relationship between a husband and wife
should be. Paul writes as if he is speaking directly to husbands and their wives. "Wives, submit to
your husbands as to the Lord, because the husband is the head of the wife as also Christ is the head
of the church–he himself being the savior of the body." "Husbands, love your wives just as Christ
loved the church and gave himself for her to sanctify her by cleansing her with the washing of the
water by the word, so that he may present the church to himself as glorious–not having a stain or

In the context of the book as a whole, Paul is trying to encourage the believer in Ephesus by
showing how Christ is bringing a people together for himself that is made up of Jews and Gentiles.
This is to show his ultimate glory and triumph. The book of Ephesians itself is broken down into
nine sections. The first section Paul starts off with praising God. "Blessed is the God and Father of
our Lord Jesus Christ." (Eph. 1:3) Paul praises God for two things, spiritual blessings and the
redemption in Christ. (Eph. 1:3–14) Next Paul takes time to give thanks and prays for the Ephesian
believers in his letter. He prays for they that might have wisdom and revelation so that they can be
encouraged about what God is doing. This of course sets the stage for the rest of his letter. In the
third section, Paul talks about reconciliation to God through Jesus. (2:1–10) He mentions that this is

Ephesians Literary Analysis
Literary Context can be difficult to understand in Ephesians. The Literary Context of Ephesians
includes the Genre, context of not only the verse itself but also the section of the Ephesians it is in,
how Ephesians is laid out and where the verse fits into the book as a whole. Once a reader is able to
find and understand the parts of Ephesians the ability to go deeper is reached. Searching for why

Paul is using images of armor which was something that Ephesians knew what it was and were able
to relate to (Philips, 185). Paul uses various parts of armor as symbolism for how to use what God
has given us to be strong. Paul urges the Ephesians to believe that with these different tools that
people can be strong in the Lord and resist what the devil is tempting with. Within each verse Paul is
showing how Christians are able to stand up against Satan with the tools that God has equipped us
with. (Anders, Ephesians 6:10). Paul is demanding that the Ephesians use the full armor of God not
only the parts that they want to use, but the part as an entirety. (Phillips, 192–193) Paul shows the
Ephesians that they have specific uses and applications for each of the pieces of armor that he
describes in verses six through ten (Bruce, 135). He includes the belt, breastplate, shoes, and shield
in his description of the tools that God has prepared us with. Paul is telling the Ephesians that they
are in battle against the enemy but that we should not fear because God was equipped us with
everything that we need. (Wiresbe,

The Biblical Reverse Of Ephesians
The Biblical verse of Ephesians 4:25 states, "Therefore, putting away lying, let each one of you
speak truth with his neighbor for we are members of one another." (Maxwell and Elmore, 2007, p.
1465) 1. What does that mean to you in the context of your organization? Within the context of my
organization, the Biblical verse of Ephesians 4:25 means to me is that there is a big difference
between telling truth and telling lies, especially since I work part–time for my family–based
cleaning business. For the most part, it is easier said than done that family members who are part of
family businesses can separate family from business. Since I have been part of my family–based
cleaning business since I was a child, I learned quite early that separating family from business
maybe difficult, but possible. As a result, I learned at an early age that because I have family
members that are employees as well, does not mean that I can get away with lying and speak
untruthfully to them. If I choose not to lie and speak truthfully to non–family employees at an
organization, why would I choose to lie and speak untruthfully to employees that are my family?
Therefore, regardless if I am working at my family–business or not working with my family–
business, it is overwhelmingly better to not tell lies and speak truthfully with my words. 2. ... Show

The members of the local congregation are "Christ's body" (v. 23) and that Christ is the Head of the
church worldwide (v. 22). Those who are born–again comprise the parts of the local body with each
person having gifts to use in benefit of the collective group and others as well. Involvement is
crucial for any congregation, and small groups are they key to ensure that all are able to be involved
in the life of their church. If small groups operate as they should, the benefit to the corporate body
should be realized in terms of faith, service, prayer and edification. Comiskey, Dempsey, et.al
underscore service to all with the term "body" fleshing away ethnic patrimony against the "unity and
universality of the church, for the church reconciles Jew and Gentile into one body (1 Cor. 12:13;
Eph. 2:16; cf. 4:4)". No distinction is made in Scripture regardless of nationality, and that means
Jew and Gentile as both are expected to work together in accord with the Spirit as he wills. The
ministries of small groups facilitate the idea "on multiple levels by incorporating
missional/intentional principles which are exponents of the transformational when one has become
born–again in Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit."

LIFE'S THREE GREAT QUESTIONS
There are three questions that every human being, at one time or another, will think about. Some
people will give them nothing more than a passing thought during their lifetime while others will
think on them constantly. I think most people are somewhere in between, usually thinking of them at
around the times of life's major events. The three questions are: 1) Where did I come from? 2) Why
am I here? 3) Where am I going when I die (some people will phrase this question, "Is this all there
is?")?
The Bible does give an answer to all three questions.
WHERE DID I COME FROM?
In general we are all created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26–27, 5:1, 9:6; 1 Corinthians 11:7;
James 3:9) but that does not fully answer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This question can only be answered by you but is answered through Christ. The Bible is specific,
there is an afterlife and heaven and hell are the only two destinations (Luke 16:19–31). If you are
thinking, "I don't believe in hell or any of this stuff" please read on. I am only showing what the
Bible says.
Our sin has separated all of us from God (Psalm 66:18; Isaiah 59:2). Many think there is a line in
the sand; this line may be a certain number of sins or specific sins, like murder or rape, that will
send them to hell but the truth is we are all guilty of something. It might be as small as telling a lie,
or taking a cooking out of the cookie jar when we were nine years old, but the fact remains we are
all guilty, from the murderer to the nine year old cookie thief (Romans 3:10,23).
In society, when someone commits a crime and is found guilty they are issued a fine or jail time.
When the fine is paid or the sentence is served we say the person, "has paid their debt to society."
When it comes to sin the only payment God will accept for sin is sinless blood (Hebrews 9:22).
Since we have all sinned, none of us can pay our debt to God; we need someone to pay it for

What Is The Purpose Of Ephesians
Death in Sin
The title of Ephesians may be a bit misleading because many studies have shown that Ephesians
may have been written to all Christians rather than the Ephesian church exclusively because it is
applicable to the Christian church as a whole. Edgar Goodspeed wrote, "The church in Ephesians is
always the church universal, never the individual local church." Although readers of Ephesians
today should still consider the culture and historical background of Ephesus when reading
Ephesians, it is important to realize that this book may have been directed to the whole church in
general rather than the church in Ephesus specifically. Therefore, all believers today should take this
passage to heart and interpret the pronouns "you", "us" and ... Show more content on

This plan takes people out of death and brings them into a life of reunion with Christ. This can be
hard for anyone to understand because all people are so underserving of salvation, yet Christ freely
offers it. God's plan for believers is modeled off of Christ's death and resurrection. Bruce writes in
his commentary on Ephesians, "not only did God raise Christ from the dead by His mighty power;
He has raised the people of Christ from the dead as well."
Specifically, in Ephesians 2:6, believers are portrayed as already being in the act of sitting with
Jesus Christ. This is not something that will happen or is going to happen, because it already has
happened–Christ has already risen His children up to sit up with Him. It is true, Christians do
currently reside on this physical earth, but God has already chosen, redeemed, and sanctified them
through His amazing grace. In Ephesians 2:4–7, Paul attempts to portray the wonderful qualities of
our saving God. These verses say that God has a "great love" for us, He has "expressed kindness" to
us, He is "rich in mercy", and He showed us His "incomparable grace". These kind qualities of God
point back to His amazing and saving act of grace. Although we are sinners and completely
undeserving–God had a purely selfless and humble motive behind bringing salvation to His people.

Paul's Epistle To The Ephesians
Paul's epistle to the believers in Ephesus and Asia Minor has a richness and depth that stirs one's
soul. Paul's deep affection for the Ephesians is evident as he communicates a profoundly
transcendent yet highly practical view of living. In this letter, Paul teaches unity in Christ (Eph.
1:10, 2:11–18). This unity, for the Christian, begins with each individual believer, who, through
Christ's indwelling, becomes connected to Christ. This connection, or uniting (as a vine and a
branch c.f. John 15:1–17), of Christ and the believer transforms the believer's inner being–one's very
identity changes (Eph. 4:24). This inner renovation would further change one outwardly–one's
behavior would conform to one's identity (Eph. 4:25–6:9). Where does the ... Show more content on

Paul begins by explaining to his readers that they have been chosen by God since before the creation
of the world to be holy and blameless before Him (Eph. 1: 4). Therefore, they have been made alive
in Christ (Eph. 2:4–5) in order to become who God created them to be (Eph. 2:10). Further, he
explains that they, as Gentiles, are now one in the body of Christ, coming together with believing
Jews (Eph. 3:6). Consequently, Paul urges them to live worthy of their calling (Eph. 4:1). This, Paul
clarifies, is possible only by stepping into one's new identity (Eph. 4:24) and "liv[ing] a life of love"
as "dearly loved children" (Eph. 5:2, 1, New International Version). The power to live a holy life, as
detailed in Ephesians chapters four through six, comes from the love of Christ (Eph. 3:14–21). Paul

of Ephesus was said to be the fourth largest city in the world (Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary,

church, it wasn't founded as such. The city of Ephesus was founded by a group of people called the
Leleges and Carians which were later driven out by the Greek. The worship of the goddess of
fertility was the religious practice of the time. Disaster struck the city in 365 B.C. when a fire
destroyed the Artemision Temple. Finally, the city was completely taken over and rebuilt by the

Analysis Of The Book ' Ephesians '
Introductions and greetings are very important tools in communication. How people perceive you
will often determine how they treat you. If you are trying to make friends, find clients, make
contacts, sell them something, or anything else we might to, with one simple process, you can move
one giant step toward your goal.
Paul, in the book of Ephesians, demonstrates this process: Respect.
Ephesians was written by Paul to the church in Ephesus. He wrote,
"Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints who are in Ephesus, and faithful in
Christ Jesus."
Beginning his letter, he reminded them of his service to Jesus as an apostle. He did not assume this
responsibility, but Jesus charged him to this task, a charge that the Father Himself commanded. In
Paul 's estimation, even though it came with great honor, being appointed as an Apostle was
practically a death sentence, one he would willingly and fervently accept. Notice how he
demonstrates the respect he wants from them by addressing himself as he wants them to see him.
Also note how he showed respect to his audience.
He addressed the Christians of Ephesus by calling them saints. These were sacred people, made holy
by the sacrifice of Jesus. They were faithful, another powerful word. These people were children of
the living God, and loyal to Him. He addressed them with two of the highest terms of respect any
Christian could wish to hear.
The blessing of grace and peace he called upon them is exactly what they

Often times, when the term "Head" is used in a marriage, such as, the husband is the head of the
wife, it stimulates the perception of the husbands being the dominate force in the relationship,
having authority, control, and power. However, Apostle Paul's message to the Ephesians was to
institute structure within a close and intimate union, or some form of social institution marking a
commitment between individuals to live as a family, which is recognized as a blueprint of Christ's
love for the church. That being said, there are three forms of social organization: A patriarchy, which
the father is the supreme authority. Matriarchy, is when the mother is the dominant authority. Lastly,
equalitarian family is one with shared control, with neither

Letter To The Ephesians
The book of Ephesians was written by the Apostle Paul, to the saints at Ephesus. It is suggested that
Paul wrote this letter around 60 AD, while imprisoned in Rome. The biblical author of Acts, Luke,
eludes to Paul's imprisonment in Rome in Acts 28. Paul initially identifies himself as the author of
the letter to the Ephesians in his greeting in Ephesians 1:1 and again in 3:1. To further identify
himself Paul often makes particular references to himself in the body of the letter to the Ephesians
(c.f. Ephesians 3:3, 7, 13; 4:1; 6:19). Ephesus was a major city in Asia Minor. It was considered an

There's lots of times in our lives where we feel powerless. Maybe its tax season, the direction of the

power that works within us, 21 to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all
generations forever and ever. Amen" (Ephesians 3:20–21). This phrase: "more abundantly beyond"

Prayers for patience? Prayers for wisdom? We can "think" quite a few things as well: Can God

the background in light of the location, author and people's pasts. In short, it will focus on the
Jewish historical interaction between its neighbors. This section will be small because of the

(This is not to be confused with the redemption portion, found in part three.) Ephesians is laid out
with a Jewish literary technique that is seen constantly throughout the letter. The common technique
compares two unlike qualities. This is done by taking a point of view of the church's history. Paul
starts out first stating the church's current state, (1:3–10) addressing the believers as "adoptioned
sons of God, forgiven from sin, and having obtained inheritance" (v.3–10). Paul continues with his
theology of redemption by writing of the gentiles before their salvation. Starting in chapter two,
Paul contrasts their former spiritually dead lives to what they had become currently (2:1–4). Paul's
famous declaration, "By grace you have been saved through faith," is seen in verse eight. Moving
closer to Ephesians 2:14, verses eleven though twenty–two make a section of thought focusing on
the theme of wholeness among the church. Verse eleven reminds the Gentiles that they lived in the
"flesh as uncircumcised, separated from God, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel." Again
Paul reiterates contrasting ways of life before their salvation. All this leads up to Eph. 14:2. "For he
himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one, and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing
wall of hostility." The first point Paul makes is about peace between Jew and gentile. They may
enter into a peaceful unily by Jesus being the the connection point, who bridges the two forming one
family. Paul writes in last part of this sentence a metaphor that uses imagery of a wall to depict the
great divide between the two people. A wall of anger, distrust and scars caused by years of

Ephesians After Jesus came about the rules had changed, what used to be a sin is no longer a sin. In
Ephesians 2:14 Paul talks about Jesus bring down the walls between Jews and Gentiles and when he

some of the rest of the new rules for getting into heaven through Jesus. I believe that all of God's
rules old and new are easy to follow as long as we try to do onto others as we want done onto us. In
Ephesians 1 Paul tells us how wonderful God is to us. God has handpicked Christians to be Jesus's
followers. Then in Ephesians 2 he talks about how the Jews (circumcised) and the Gentiles
(uncircumcised) are now one and are Christians. He says that the Gentiles, even though they are not

"Righteousness" is a common theme between the books, however in Isaiah the people in Israel
turned their back on God and embraced "oppression and revolt" (Beale, 831). The author's pattern is
to focus on sin and the restoration of the followers of Christ within their letter. The goal of his letter
was to encourage the people to be rid of their past sinful behavior and to work on improving
themselves for the sake of God's love. Throughout Ephesians 6:10–17 the author commands that the
people defend the position given to them by God and not succumb to attacks from the devil or any
other spiritual force (Beale, 832). However, when referring to the use of "armor", it is possible that
the author of Ephesians used text from Isaiah to draw inspiration for his letter. This could explain

Pride In Ephesians
Pride
One of the greatest pitfalls among God's prophet is unholy pride. It has leveled not a few of God's
highly anointed servants. God will not share His glory with another. Those who are used by God
must quickly learn that everything that is revealed, prophesied or ministered is from Him and not
from themselves. The prophetic ministry is paralleled to the dead womb of Sarah. There was no
possibility that Sarah could conceive of herself–only a resurrection miracle could produce an Issac.
The prophet does not hold the office because of his looks, intelligence, insight, deep hunger for
God, or consecration. The office is given according to grace, election and divine appointment. These
things have nothing to do with the vessel aside of accepting what God has ordained.
God abhors pride because it has its roots in Lucifer's rebellion. Lucifer grew proud because of His
beauty and wisdom, and then sought to exalt himself above the throne of God through rebellion. The

people and they fall to the ground. At other times, the coat of the prophet thrown at a bystander
could bring them to the ground at the amazement of the audience. What a prophet must guard

We must understand Ephesus if we want to understand the Book of Ephesians. Ephesus was a large

temple dedicated to a goddess named Diana (Artemis). The temple and streets were lined with
immoral goddess prostitutes. It was a very wicked city and immorality flourished and flooded over

Letter To Ephesians Essay
Historical Background In the beginning of the book of Ephesians, Paul specifically states that he is
the author of the letter to Ephesians, though the authenticity of Paul's authorship has been
questioned. Signing the name of an influential person of the period was common practice from "the
third century BC to the first century AD." Though it would not be the first time that Paul's name was
forged, Ephesians is not a controversial letter, so if the author did not want to include his own name,
he could have written the letter anonymously; also, given moral influence of the text, the author
would not have lied for no cause. Ephesians is a bit different from the other letters of Paul in that it
does not follow the normal structure he has previously used: "salutation, thanksgiving, prayer, body,
ethical exhortations, greetings." Paul also makes many personal references throughout the book of
Ephesians including sharing that he is in prison. During the time the letter was written, most believe
that Paul was in a prison in Rome. He wrote three letters at around the same time. One letter was to
the Colossians; one letter was to Philemon, whose slave, Onesimus, had recently run away; the final
letter was to the church that Paul had started in Ephesus. The messenger that carried the letters to the
church of Colossae most likely passed through the sea port and great city at Ephesus. Working in
Ephesus for at least two years, Paul expanded the reach of the Gospel to the entire

Ephesians 3
During the first week the class was divided into eight small groups. Each group was given the task
to collectively agree on a common definition on the gospel founded in the Bible. During that time
students including myself had to compromise and possible argue their point. As I reflect on the
experience of working in a group to provide a working definition for the gospel three things stand
out persuasion, pressure, and practice. Persuasion from outside influences mainly NT Wright's book.
In my group one of the members was quickly persuaded by Wright i.e. "The gospel is news not
advise." As christians I think we aren't to be easily persuaded. Ephesians 4 preaches supports this
point well. "And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds, and teachers, to
equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the
unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the
stature of the fullness of Christ, so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves
and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes."
(Ephesians 4:11–14 ESV)
Although I believe Wright's teachings are sound, I was surprised to find somebody ... Show more

Ultimately I don't know why, but two possibilities include that the gospel is well know and therefore
we should know or to just finish and leave class. This pressure lead me to accept what our group
decide the first time without arguing my point. We collectively combined are definitions for our
answer, however if I were to do it again I'd argue against using NT Wright's words, because we
didn't have enough time to compare Wright's claims to that of the Bible. Accepting someones
teaching blindly is what causes christians today to be tossed to and fro by most

Paul's Message of Unity and Spiritual WarfareIn Ephesians 1-3, Paul emphasizes the unity believers have through their shared identity in Christ. He teaches that through faith in Jesus, both Jews and Gentiles are fellow citizens in God's household. Paul wants the Ephesian church to understand God's plan to bring all things under Christ's lordship. In Ephesians 4-6, Paul exhorts believers to live worthily of their calling. He encourages unity and humility among the members. Paul also warns of spiritual warfare against the evil forces. He instructs Christians to put on the full armor of God to stand against the schemes of the devil. This document analyzes Paul's key

  • 1. Metaphors Of Ephesians 1 In Ephesians 1 verse 11 it means that if you are a believer, God has assigned you to His chosen life. That we have been chosen as Gods portion and He has appointed you to Himself. It also means that God has chosen us as His inheritance. This is one of the many blessings which we have as believers. God does this according to His purpose and His will. God is never forced by anyone or anything outside of Him. Everything is under His control and is part of His plan. Every flower and plant – God controls its birth, it's growth and its death. Laws such as gravity and physics are under His control. God never makes mistakes! He is in control of all creation and nothing is by chance. There is nothing outside of His control. When I read this verse, it means to me that I was planned to be on this Earth, by God. I was thought about even before my mom and dad were born. That God picked my mom and dad just for me. God has a plan for my life and I should be looking for His will in my life and to live it. God controls everything that happens to me and will happen to me. God knows my future and my destiny. Ephesians 1 verse 12 talks about Gods work of the Father. God does everything for a purpose and to glorify Himself. God does this so that all created beings and events will bring him glory. God is love, pleasure, will, Dungan 3 grace, wisdom an understanding. His purpose for our life is never wrong. He operates the entire universe to do this. • 2. Apostle Paul Use Of The Armor Of God Hermeneutical Application by George Mburu, KE100653 Apostle Paul use of the Armor of God The author undertakes an application of biblical Hermeneutics in respect to the Apostle Paul's address of the armor of God to the Ephesian Church. Actually, the author comes alive to the need of proper Hermeneutic skills for right application of the biblical Corpus. Indeed, the use of necessary tools has been encouraged for better application of the Scriptures. Towards the end of the essay, the author makes tentative conclusions. KEYWORDS: Bible, God, hermeneutics, exegesis, corpus, text, context, application, hope, warfare, Greco–Roman, kingdom, struggle, believer, victory Introduction The term "Hermeneutics" comes from a Greek word, that means "to interpret" hence it signifies interpretation of literary text to the fullest measure. In addition, for that practice, sound principles must be employed in the interpretation of the text. Therefore, one realizes that, when exegesis concerns itself with the meaning of a text to its ... The enemies are categorized into four main ones, I) Principalities/authorities II) rulers, III) Powers IV) forces of wickedness in the heavenly realm. A sage once commented that, "Those who conquer the skies also conquer the earth". And definitely sure, once believers conquer evil powers, principalities who rule different spheres of influence, and evil rulers in the dark world, win victory. However, as the Apostle Paul, Craig and other authors argue, the challenge holds a spiritual warfare (cosmic–the unseen world). Accordingly, the reader and the interpreter should appreciate that the cosmic is real and troubles many hence the insistence of the apostle Paul for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Ephesians 12 Ephesians 6:12 says, "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Paul emphatically instructs his readers concerning spiritual warfare that Christians are involved in and his definition, at least to me, is a chilling reminder that we are engaged in a battle. The Bible contains numerous scriptures and accounts of spiritual warfare, too numerous for us to deny the fact that it does exist. Now the level of our battles varies from person to person, nevertheless, a relationship with Jesus signifies we are engaged in a battle with our adversary. There is a good and an evil, there is a right and a wrong, there is righteousness and unrighteousness, there is black and white and there is a God and a devil. I grasp that in this age of enlightenment, spiritual warfare ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are times it is necessary for us to assume the defense posture, however, we are also encouraged to be on the offense. Ephesians 6:13–18, the famous text on putting on the whole armor of God, teaches us that this armor isn't just about being ready to be attacked and to survive on defense, but it is about being prepared to proceed with the attack. In verse 13, the word "withstand" does not denote to "survive" an attack, it signifies to oppose the enemy. This scripture teaches God's warriors to be on the offense and then follows with the equipment to accomplish the task. Warfare possesses a defensive posture, however, warfare also contains an offensive position. As Christians, we should position ourselves to be ready to defend but it is to our advantage to be on the offense as the Word of God teaches. We possess the ability to take the fight to the adversary with the strength and power of the Word of God, with prayer and with the Spirit of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Augustine's Letter To The Ephesians The journey of Saint Augustine into finding his faith is depicted through his writings in Confessions. Augustine was born in the year 354 AD in Hippo, a region in North Africa. Today, he is regarded to be one of the most important influencers of the development of early Christianity. However, he is not a typical saint; It took him years of philosophizing and experiential learning to be able to accept and appreciate the Christian faith. Despite pressures from Augustine's religiously devout mother Monica, who spent her life trying to sway Augustine in the direction of Christianity, Augustine firmly held the belief that Christianity was far too simple to fulfill his spiritual desires. Augustine constantly wrestled with an internal struggle of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Paul's letter to the Ephesians is written while he is held in prison. He proposes a guideline based on the gospel to explain how to live a life filled with God's grace. Paul writes that before the introduction of Jesus' teachings, people were trapped in a life of sin, hopelessness, and greed. Now, Jesus has provided a way for people to manifest a new form of humanity. This humanity is meant to be celebrated through God's grace. Although Paul is in prison, he is still able to look to God to help him, while appreciating the gift of God's grace. This emphasized how Paul is a model for followers of Jesus because he looks toward his faith to guide him through a troubled time. Paul sets up a conclusion to his letter by comparing the principles of an old humanity versus the desired principles of a new humanity. For example, Paul encourages truth over lies, peace over anger or hatred, and forgiveness over retribution. In other terms, Paul is discouraging sinful attributes and encouraging the attributes that will lead to living a faithful life under the word of God. Paul concludes his message to the Ephesians with a passage that provides a summation of what it takes to live life as a devout and true follower of Jesus. He writes, "Put on the armor of God so that you may be able to stand firm against the tactics of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Ephesians Rebellion Plinking into a small, cold pool from the razor tip of a hanging stalactite, the minuscule droplets reverberated through the musty cavern. Through the stillness seeped a moan, more likely felt than heard. Awakening after centuries awaited under cold stone covered in frosty starlight, the great monster stirred, unfurling with life, raising its hideous, stunted head with a yawning, fanged mouth, and inducing a rumble to shake the foundations of the earth. Soon the world would know the wrath and terror of the imprisoned. Whether that sin pertains to a teen or his parents, in which the teen clutches to his true Master in surrender rather than follow his parents into death, the monster belches forth its refuse upon the world. Rebellion hurls upon the bearer, regardless of his ultimate innocence, a multitude of earthly quandaries, effects that spring from the fallen world which Adam hewed. Rending relationships, piling stress upon the hurting, devastating previous trust, and smiting a blow to the depths of the soul, sin utterly mocks God's pure perfection. Rebellion taunts the Ruler of the Universe. On this good earth two consequences ultimately result: maturity found through these hardships or a hardening of the gaping pit of sin. If the teen humbly endures the marks he will mature towards wisdom that only God can lend. On the other hand, should the teen delve deeper into the chasm of sin, holding out bitterly against the consequences, he will pour upon his life such hideous damage that can only find repair through more pain. For rebellion constitutes sin and sin deserves eternal damnation in Hell. Two choices: wisdom through pain or unending ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Book Of Ephesians Essay Background: According to some insights I read on the book of Ephesians it explains that in this book Paul does not attempt to address any Finaone problem but instead takes the protective measures to prevent any future problems. So by this point in the book of Ephesians he trying to encourage them to walk in line with God and to do what the lord says does. Now Paul having been thru a lot for Christ, so he knows what he is talking about. Paul was now a prisoner at Rome; be he says prisoner of the Lord, or in the Lord. He also says this in Eph. 3:1. to show that he was not ashamed of his bonds with God , well knowing that he suffered not as a person who did the wrong things. So in the first two verse that is my focus today we are going to look at how Paul makes his purpose clear the he expects that this community of faith would walk in accordance with its heavenly calling. Which brings me to my first point. 1. Living up to you Calling Eph. 4:1 Verse 1 I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called The word beseeched means to ask (someone) urgently and fervently to do something; implore; entreat. • 7. Ephesians Interpretation The Relationship Between Man and Wife As previously noted, the culture Paul was speaking to invoked the patriarchal view of the household common in Greco–Roman culture. Though modern society no longer reflects these patriarchal views, they were the "social realities within which believers in Ephesus and elsewhere found themselves." Rather than overturn these social realities or ignore the standard conventional household structures, Paul sought to give his audience "guidance about how to best live in those households as followers of Christ." Therefore, when Paul spoke regarding marital relationships he did so with the predisposition towards the husband as the ultimate authority in the home. In this sense, wives were already ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Paul's words about the relationship between husbands and wives serve not only as a guide for Christian marriages, but also a method of explaining the relationship between Christ and the church. This section of Ephesians illustrates two important facets of Christianity: the nature of the church's submission to Christ and the nature of Jesus's love for the church. As noted before, Paul had already taken time in this letter to assert the headship of Christ in Ephesians 1:22, 4:15, and now in 5:23. Jesus, as the authority and center of the church, is due reverence and submission from the church. Throughout Ephesians, Paul calls believers to recognize the "lordship of Christ" and then to act on that acknowledgement through willing submission. Jesus's love for the church is exemplified in the laying down of his life for her salvation. Paul recalls the sacrifice of Christ frequently his letter, beginning in Ephesians 1:7 – "In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace." Here, in Ephesians 5:25, Paul again tells the church the Christ "gave himself up for her." Christ's love is sacrificial and he is the Savior of the church (Eph. 5:23). Furthermore, Jesus "nourishes and cherishes" the church, as if it were his own body (Eph. 5:29), displaying a love that is unforced and freely given. Paul also shows that Christ's love is purpose–filled. Jesus's death and resurrection serves to sanctify the church so "that she might be holy" (Eph. 5:26–27). Though believers are still sinful, "the Christ who pledges himself to the church will establish the church's holiness, recalled yet forgiving her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Testament Of The Ephesians Paul, who is the author of Ephesians, is writing to the church in Ephesus and possibly surrounding Asia minor cities. He wrote the book of Ephesians sometime between AD 60–62 when he was imprisoned in Rome (3:1, 4:1, 6:20). The letter was taken to Ephesus by Tychicus (vs 6:21–22). Paul knew that the Christians in Ephesus and the surrounding towns were growing and had heard about their faith so he addresses the Ephesians as a corporate body (Hultgren, 2015). At the time, Ephesus was a thriving city and the capitol of the providence of Asia. It was a city that was strategically located to encourage trade routes that would attract people from all over. Context Literary: Most of Paul's letters are written as expositions which are carefully reasoned explanations of his letter and well thought out words that are crucially placed to build agreement and action among the people (Hendricks and Hendricks, 2007, p. 224). However, this particular passage of Ephesians 3: 14–21 is a prayer among his exposition. Right before this passage, Paul pleads with the Ephesians that the church needs to be made known of the "authorities in the heavenly places" (Ephesians 3:10) so that they may have confidence in their faith (vs 12). Paul starts verse 14 with "For this reason" showing his readers that this is why he is adding a prayer in the middle of his discussion. Content: Paul uses this interchange in prayer as a Chiasm which is a list of ideas that are structured to parallel each other in certain lines such as line A, line B, line C, line B, line A (Duvall and Hays, 2012, p. 100). He starts the prayer out with Praise to the Father with words such as "I bow my knees before the Father" (vs 14). He then explains God's great power in verses 15 and 16. Finally, he states his purpose of the prayer in verse 17 with words such as "so that". In verses 17–19 he tells us the purpose which is three–fold: that Christ may dwell in our hearts, to know the love of Christ, and to be filled with fullness of God. Most slaves would later become Christians due to colonialist ideology, but the problem with this was that christianized slaves posed a threat to slave systems. Christianity taught blacks to see themselves as equals to their white counterparts in the eyes of God, therefore in the church, blacks began to question the Christian hierarchy imposed by protestant preachers which stated that slaves were bound to obey their masters. Traditionally it is understood that this letter was written to believers in Ephesus of Asia Minor. Through this book Paul reveals who we are with and without Christ. Ephesians discusses the topic of blending the Jewish and non–Jewish Christians into one community. The reoccurring theme in Ephesians is God's purpose and plan in offering redemption to His people and the manifestation of that purpose in the life of the believer. • 16. Ephesians: A Literary Analysis A literary analysis is the practice of looking closely at small parts to see how they affect the whole. Literary analysis focuses on how word techniques are used by the author to create meaning. One of the reasons that Paul penned his letters in Ephesians was to bolster areas that were weak in the church. In addition to that, Paul wanted to clarify central beliefs that may not have been well– defined. Probing Paul's letter with such a supposition, reveals several frailties among the Ephesian that Paul needed to encourage and reinforce. One of these weaknesses are amalgamated with the word riches, which is present throughout the letter in Ephesians. In this portion of the essay I will break a portion of the text down into parts, in order to examine the different elements of this piece of literature, by analyzing a portion of the text. Paul was disquieted about their lack of expectancy as it pertained to the gospel and the hope that was. Imaginably they were bemused by the situation that life present. Maybe their toil with hope was because of their misconception that God was not rich or charitable towards them, they had trouble believing God to be so rich to them. Because of their vulnerabilities, that really were issues of faith, they robbed themselves of experiencing the fullness of God's power. The power to: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Biblical Reverse Of Ephesians The Biblical verse of Ephesians 4:25 states, "Therefore, putting away lying, let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor for we are members of one another." (Maxwell and Elmore, 2007, p. 1465) 1. What does that mean to you in the context of your organization? Within the context of my organization, the Biblical verse of Ephesians 4:25 means to me is that there is a big difference between telling truth and telling lies, especially since I work part–time for my family–based cleaning business. For the most part, it is easier said than done that family members who are part of family businesses can separate family from business. Since I have been part of my family–based cleaning business since I was a child, I learned quite early that separating family from business maybe difficult, but possible. As a result, I learned at an early age that because I have family members that are employees as well, does not mean that I can get away with lying and speak untruthfully to them. If I choose not to lie and speak truthfully to non–family employees at an organization, why would I choose to lie and speak untruthfully to employees that are my family? Therefore, regardless if I am working at my family–business or not working with my family– business, it is overwhelmingly better to not tell lies and speak truthfully with my words. 2. ... This plan takes people out of death and brings them into a life of reunion with Christ. This can be hard for anyone to understand because all people are so underserving of salvation, yet Christ freely offers it. God's plan for believers is modeled off of Christ's death and resurrection. Bruce writes in his commentary on Ephesians, "not only did God raise Christ from the dead by His mighty power; He has raised the people of Christ from the dead as well." Specifically, in Ephesians 2:6, believers are portrayed as already being in the act of sitting with Jesus Christ. This is not something that will happen or is going to happen, because it already has happened–Christ has already risen His children up to sit up with Him. It is true, Christians do currently reside on this physical earth, but God has already chosen, redeemed, and sanctified them through His amazing grace. • 24. Paul's Epistle To The Ephesians Paul's epistle to the believers in Ephesus and Asia Minor has a richness and depth that stirs one's soul. Paul's deep affection for the Ephesians is evident as he communicates a profoundly transcendent yet highly practical view of living. In this letter, Paul teaches unity in Christ (Eph. 1:10, 2:11–18). This unity, for the Christian, begins with each individual believer, who, through Christ's indwelling, becomes connected to Christ. This connection, or uniting (as a vine and a branch c.f. John 15:1–17), of Christ and the believer transforms the believer's inner being–one's very identity changes (Eph. 4:24). The book of Ephesians was penned by Paul the apostle, while he was imprisoned. This letter was written to the church in Ephesus. Ephesus is located in the western Asia Minor at the mouth of the Caster River, an important Seaport (HCSB, 2010). The message of this letter is so powerful. Paul opens this book by encouraging the audience to give thanks for the amazing work of the cross and all the blessings that entail the work of the cross upon reception of Christ. Paul encourages the unite created by God known as family; solidifying humanity, both Jew and Gentile. Teachings of church maturity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The biblical city of Ephesus, is located as mentioned prior in the western Asia Minor at the mouth of the Cayster River as seen in the map to the left. The great location for the city of Ephesus made it a crucial seaport and a central location for commercial growth. At the time of the Apostle Paul the city of Ephesus was said to be the fourth largest city in the world (Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary, eBook). Although this city represents a great part of the Christian movement and the Ephesians church, it wasn't founded as such. The city of Ephesus was founded by a group of people called the Leleges and Carians which were later driven out by the Greek. The worship of the goddess of fertility was the religious practice of the time. Disaster struck the city in 365 B.C. when a fire destroyed the Artemision Temple. Finally, the city was completely taken over and rebuilt by the Romans, which was the influence that made it the fourth largest city in the world. This great city was associated with the ministries of Paul, Timothy and the Apostle John. These great men played a significant role in spreading early Christianity throughout this city and ... • 26. Analysis Of The Book ' Ephesians ' Introductions and greetings are very important tools in communication. How people perceive you will often determine how they treat you. If you are trying to make friends, find clients, make contacts, sell them something, or anything else we might to, with one simple process, you can move one giant step toward your goal. Paul, in the book of Ephesians, demonstrates this process: Respect. Ephesians was written by Paul to the church in Ephesus. He wrote, "Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints who are in Ephesus, and faithful in Christ Jesus." Beginning his letter, he reminded them of his service to Jesus as an apostle. He did not assume this responsibility, but Jesus charged him to this task, a charge that the Father Himself commanded. In Paul 's estimation, even though it came with great honor, being appointed as an Apostle was practically a death sentence, one he would willingly and fervently accept. Notice how he demonstrates the respect he wants from them by addressing himself as he wants them to see him. Also note how he showed respect to his audience. He addressed the Christians of Ephesus by calling them saints. These were sacred people, made holy by the sacrifice of Jesus. They were faithful, another powerful word. These people were children of the living God, and loyal to Him. He addressed them with two of the highest terms of respect any Christian could wish to hear. The blessing of grace and peace he called upon them is exactly what they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. Patriarchy Of Ephesians Often times, when the term "Head" is used in a marriage, such as, the husband is the head of the wife, it stimulates the perception of the husbands being the dominate force in the relationship, having authority, control, and power. However, Apostle Paul's message to the Ephesians was to institute structure within a close and intimate union, or some form of social institution marking a commitment between individuals to live as a family, which is recognized as a blueprint of Christ's love for the church. That being said, there are three forms of social organization: A patriarchy, which the father is the supreme authority. Matriarchy, is when the mother is the dominant authority. • 28. Letter To The Ephesians The book of Ephesians was written by the Apostle Paul, to the saints at Ephesus. It is suggested that Paul wrote this letter around 60 AD, while imprisoned in Rome. The biblical author of Acts, Luke, eludes to Paul's imprisonment in Rome in Acts 28. Paul initially identifies himself as the author of the letter to the Ephesians in his greeting in Ephesians 1:1 and again in 3:1. To further identify himself Paul often makes particular references to himself in the body of the letter to the Ephesians (c.f. Ephesians 3:3, 7, 13; 4:1; 6:19). Ephesus was a major city in Asia Minor. It was considered an affluent seaport. It was a capital in the Roman Province of Asia, what is today western Turkey. • 29. Ephesians There's lots of times in our lives where we feel powerless. Maybe its tax season, the direction of the country, control over our children or even our own lives. Yet God has promised Christians a life that goes far beyond our fears of inadequacy. In Ephesians, Paul wrote to the church at Ephesus: "Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, 21 to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen" (Ephesians 3:20–21). This phrase: "more abundantly beyond" (NASB) is translated various ways. Sometimes its translated as "immeasurably more" (NIV), or "accomplish abundantly far more" (NRSV). Paul's is basically repeating himself here as if saying: "abundantly, abundantly." The motto of the country of Spain is: "Further Beyond." I wonder if they came up with this sailing to the New WOrld. Indeed, we can learn a lot about God's plans fro us in the Bible, but God has so much more in store for us than we can even comprehend or read about. Concerning everything we could "ask" we can ask for quite a bit! We sometimes pray: "Lord, I want a million dollars, and a brand new car." Well, that's not exactly what God is teaching here. How about opportunities to reach the lost? Prayers for patience? Prayers for wisdom? We can "think" quite a few things as well: Can God really help me through this temptation (1 Corinthians 10:13)? Is God going to be there for me through the hard times (Psalm 23)? Will He provided for my needs (Matthew 6:31–33)? Finally, the verse in Ephesians says: "according to the power that works within us." Its kind of scary to think of God working in us. We have a boss in Heaven, and He expects us to work for Him. • 30. Ephesians 2: 14 Understanding the meaning of Ephesians 2:14 will first require an analysis of genre and literary context. This first part will be more heavily weighted on how the literature around and leading up to Ephesians points towards the meaning of v.2:14. Secondly, historical and cultural awareness fills in the background in light of the location, author and people's pasts. In short, it will focus on the Jewish historical interaction between its neighbors. This section will be small because of the historical digressions that are commented throughout the paper. Part three will address the question of Ephesians canonical legitimacy. Under the same part, an analysis of God's redemptive story, for all humankind, will be highlighted in the message of Ephesians. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (This is not to be confused with the redemption portion, found in part three.) Ephesians is laid out with a Jewish literary technique that is seen constantly throughout the letter. The common technique compares two unlike qualities. This is done by taking a point of view of the church's history. Paul starts out first stating the church's current state, (1:3–10) addressing the believers as "adoptioned sons of God, forgiven from sin, and having obtained inheritance" (v.3–10). Paul continues with his theology of redemption by writing of the gentiles before their salvation. Starting in chapter two, Paul contrasts their former spiritually dead lives to what they had become currently (2:1–4). Paul's famous declaration, "By grace you have been saved through faith," is seen in verse eight. Moving closer to Ephesians 2:14, verses eleven though twenty–two make a section of thought focusing on the theme of wholeness among the church. Verse eleven reminds the Gentiles that they lived in the "flesh as uncircumcised, separated from God, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel." Again Paul reiterates contrasting ways of life before their salvation. All this leads up to Eph. 14:2. "For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one, and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility." The first point Paul makes is about peace between Jew and gentile. They may enter into a peaceful unily by Jesus being the the connection point, who bridges the two forming one family. Paul writes in last part of this sentence a metaphor that uses imagery of a wall to depict the great divide between the two people. A wall of anger, distrust and scars caused by years of ... As a result, the faith passed down into their children's generations, continuously reaching today's generation. Then, our society changed from a primitive society to a modern society. With the invention of technology, it creates a new direction towards spreading the Gospel. While our ancestors spoke and wrote Gospel in church, my generation use technology to share the Gospel on social media and Bible apps. In Ephesians 2:14 Paul talks about Jesus bring down the walls between Jews and Gentiles and when he died he set aside the commandments and created new ones. Paul explains in the rest of Ephesians some of the rest of the new rules for getting into heaven through Jesus. I believe that all of God's rules old and new are easy to follow as long as we try to do onto others as we want done onto us. In Ephesians 1 Paul tells us how wonderful God is to us. God has handpicked Christians to be Jesus's followers. Then in Ephesians 2 he talks about how the Jews (circumcised) and the Gentiles (uncircumcised) are now one and are Christians. He says that the Gentiles, even though they are not circumcised, are no longer outcasts to him and are now his children. So one of the new rules is that you do not need to be circumcised to get into heaven anymore. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The book of Ephesians is noticeably different compared to the other Pauline letters. Differences include word use, length of text, and even tone of the author. However, this section of Ephesians focuses on the idea of having righteousness in God through difficult times where one's faith might be tested. "Righteousness" is a common theme between the books, however in Isaiah the people in Israel turned their back on God and embraced "oppression and revolt" (Beale, 831). The author's pattern is to focus on sin and the restoration of the followers of Christ within their letter. The goal of his letter was to encourage the people to be rid of their past sinful behavior and to work on improving themselves for the sake of God's love. Throughout Ephesians 6:10–17 the author commands that the people defend the position given to them by God and not succumb to attacks from the devil or any other spiritual force (Beale, 832). However, when referring to the use of "armor", it is possible that the author of Ephesians used text from Isaiah to draw inspiration for his letter. This could explain why not only are the meaning of each book similar, but the use of certain words are used so make a point of interpreting God's message for the people in Isaiah and Ephesians. • 35. Pride In Ephesians Pride One of the greatest pitfalls among God's prophet is unholy pride. It has leveled not a few of God's highly anointed servants. God will not share His glory with another. Those who are used by God must quickly learn that everything that is revealed, prophesied or ministered is from Him and not from themselves. The prophetic ministry is paralleled to the dead womb of Sarah. There was no possibility that Sarah could conceive of herself–only a resurrection miracle could produce an Issac. The prophet does not hold the office because of his looks, intelligence, insight, deep hunger for God, or consecration. The office is given according to grace, election and divine appointment. These things have nothing to do with the vessel aside of accepting what God has ordained. God abhors pride because it has its roots in Lucifer's rebellion. Lucifer grew proud because of His beauty and wisdom, and then sought to exalt himself above the throne of God through rebellion. • 38. Letter To Ephesians Essay Historical Background In the beginning of the book of Ephesians, Paul specifically states that he is the author of the letter to Ephesians, though the authenticity of Paul's authorship has been questioned. Signing the name of an influential person of the period was common practice from "the third century BC to the first century AD." Though it would not be the first time that Paul's name was forged, Ephesians is not a controversial letter, so if the author did not want to include his own name, he could have written the letter anonymously; also, given moral influence of the text, the author would not have lied for no cause. Ephesians is a bit different from the other letters of Paul in that it does not follow the normal structure he has previously used: "salutation, thanksgiving, prayer, body, ethical exhortations, greetings." Paul also makes many personal references throughout the book of Ephesians including sharing that he is in prison. During the time the letter was written, most believe that Paul was in a prison in Rome. He wrote three letters at around the same time. One letter was to the Colossians; one letter was to Philemon, whose slave, Onesimus, had recently run away; the final letter was to the church that Paul had started in Ephesus. The messenger that carried the letters to the church of Colossae most likely passed through the sea port and great city at Ephesus. During that time students including myself had to compromise and possible argue their point. As I reflect on the experience of working in a group to provide a working definition for the gospel three things stand out persuasion, pressure, and practice. Persuasion from outside influences mainly NT Wright's book. In my group one of the members was quickly persuaded by Wright i.e. "The gospel is news not advise." As christians I think we aren't to be easily persuaded. Ephesians 4 preaches supports this point well. "And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds, and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes."
