Teacher Retention
Research Question: What role does teacher recruitment and retention play in creating student achievement in urban schools?
What keeps teachers in the classroom, while others flee to "greener pastures?" What can we do to increase the holding power of the educational arena?
The answers to these questions are unclear and multi–faceted. Creating a stable teaching force in the American public school systems is urgent and
requires immediate attention. High turnover rates create instability in the American school system. An unstable workforce affects a schools ability to
create coherent and progressive instruction across grade levels and make it difficult for schools to implement new, innovative, and lasting reform
initiatives that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They create the missions, philosophies, and visions that define their institution. It is essential that administrators are involved in the schools operational
format. "Teachers crave effective principals who make a concerted effort to become personally involved in providing support for the teachers," (Mihans,
2008, p. 763). Support is a fundamental issue that can cause a teacher to either run away from a difficult situation or stay and fight. This support is key
for many teachers who work in difficult situations like urban districts. As previously stated many of these teachers are already working in schools with
poor working conditions, but if they have a principal who is supportive and provides them with the backing they need then they are more likely to
remain in their current position. Administrators can help retain teachers by providing them with constructive feedback. Regular feedback about a
teachers' performance and their abilities both in and out of the classroom are crucial. By nature, teachers are learners and thrive in an environment in
which they can learn and grow. One way they can grow is through constant information about their performance. Administrators are the central catalyst
of change. If they are not ingrained into every part of the schools organizational structure then change will not occur. They must create, "school
structures that promote integrated professional cultures with time during

Teacher As A Teacher Essay
Teachers have been in existence for thousands of years, influencing the lives of countless people. A teacher as "a person who teaches" and teaching as
"giving systematic information to a person or about a subject or skill." Yet, these definitions do not sufficiently explain the true role of a teacher.
Clearly, a teacher provides information and imparts knowledge to his or her students. A teacher, however, is more than an instructor; a teacher is a
motivator, a counsellor, and an ally.
Teacher may be the strongest motivating force in a student's life. If a teacher successfully achieves student motivation, then he or she has met an
essential teaching goal. A good teacher is like a good coach–always encouraging and always supportive. Teachers ... Show more content on

Motivation in teaching comes from an innate need to better students' lives; being a teacher means to relentlessly strive to motivate students to succeed.
As a motivator, teachers also have an innate ability to guide students in education and career choices. This is where teachers excel as counsellors. Many
students will question their future; through knowledge and experience, teachers guide students in the best direction to success. Not all students will
figure out what they want to do in life immediately; therefore, teachers must continuously guide students throughout their years of education. A
teacher's ability to direct is a powerful tool.
With strong motivational and counselling skills, teachers become a powerful ally for students experiencing difficulties. School can be a constant battle
for students, many of whom rely on teachers as supporters. Teachers who turns his or her back on a struggling student is a deserter to the student and a
failure to the teaching profession. This does not mean a teacher must become a student's best friend; students often do not want a friend from their
teachers, but, rather, an ally. As an ally, teachers strive to provide a positive and comfortable environment for students. In doing so, students' struggles

Types of Teachers

Abstract This paper explains three different types of teachers and their role and impact over the educational system. By the same token it is
emphasized that the teacher is an important part of the learning process who impacts the shaping of the lives of young children. The relationship
between a student and a teacher is a difficult one in most of cases and it is something that raises problems which need to be resolved. At this point

Many psychological studies, such as Baumrind (1971) which shows the various parenting styles can correlate with various teachers' classroom styles in
the sense that a good model of a parent is an appropriate model for teacher. According to the study, the crucial elements of relationships are the
responsiveness and demandingness. Considering these elements teachers can be classified as authoritative, intimate, and indifferent. Authoritative
teachers will be characterized by a high response, and a high demand, and are considered to be the closest to the ideal picture of a teacher. Most of them
can be described with personality traits such as: curious, creative, attentive, principled, astute, patient, hardworking, gregarious, communicative, and
openhearted and perhaps the most important, proficient. They are eager to know something more about the student apart from their first and last name,
something more about their individuality, more personal. They are more likely to build a good relationship with the students and will allow them
participation in the class, as long as it is something relevant to the topic of the lesson, so the student involvement in the class is at a very high rate.
These ways of participations are "important predictors of social and academic adjustment" (Hughes, 2002). The authoritative classroom might be an
excellent opportunity for developing speaking skills, because an authoritative teacher is open to feedback

The Teachers Of The Teacher
All of the teachers I observed had many different ways to manage their classroom. Many of their ways were similar, but there were some differences
too. I noticed that the female teachers used songs to get the children from one activity to another while the male teacher went right into the next lesson.
All of the teachers welcomed their students as they came into the classroom. Mrs. Pollard sang the hello song to them and Mrs. Kraus did as well. After
they welcomed the children, all of the teachers had their students go directly to their carpet spots. Mr. Leonhardt had three different seating types for
the students, which I thought was different yet effective. There were team spots, dance lines and free seating. When the students were... Show more

Some of the teachers were stricter about handling this than others, but they were all still effective. Both Mrs. Kraus and Mrs. Pollard had songs for a
lot of their transitions and Mrs. Pollard had a "Sparkle Master" to reward good behavior and give the students a chance to stand out in class. It was a
special way to get them involved with singing to their classmates individually.
Mrs. Kraus had a process with the younger kids for continuity. She started with a hello song of some sort and then had them sing their school song and
patriotic songs. Those were the kids' warm ups. After those, she went right into the lessons. She did not always introduce the concept, but she
explained what the kids were going to do that day. Mrs. Pollard was the only one who used the Orff instruments at my observations, so whenever she
had the kids go to the Orff instruments, she called each row to line up at the Orff instruments and told them to be careful and not hit them. The
children already knew how they were supposed to go to the Orff instruments because she had already made rules on how they act around them. When
they left the Orff instruments she called each row to stand up and walk single file out of the rows of instruments.
Mrs. Kraus, Mr. Leonhardt and Mrs. Pollard were all Kodaly oriented in their lessons and whenever they were doing the "practicing" part of the
method, they were walking around to make sure the students were doing the correct thing The

Collaboration Between Teachers And Teachers
Plan for collaboration
Collaboration between teachers is a key component to professional development that will lead to higher student achievement. There is a need for
schools to set up time for teachers to be able to collaborate together. This allows for teachers to help each other, matchup content, teach each other new
and best practices, troubleshoot student issues just to name a few of the areas that collaboration time can help foster within a school. The key is to build
time for teachers to be able to collaborate during the school day or week. This collaboration time needs to be between grade levels, departments, and
cross curricular when needed. For many schools this is an afterthought to the school schedule or a fleeting thought after the master schedule is
completed. A principal needs to keep an open mind to any strategy that will enable the teachers to be able to collaborate for the good of the students
and the school.
Currently at Wahlert, collaboration time has been built into the schedule to two ways, though the amount of time and who is available are not always
the most convenient. The first block of time is built in during our seminar period. Seminar is roughly thirty minutes long and you have two days a
week with students and two days without. Most teachers have roughly one hour a week built in to do PLC and collaborate with others, though the time
is also used to reteach lessons to students, have students retake tests, and meet with clubs or other

A Teacher Interview : Interview As A Teacher
Teacher Interview While attending South Elementary School in Marshall, Illinois, I have learned a lot about the daily life of working within a
school from interviewing two different teachers. I have never realized how much work goes into being a teacher no matter the grade being taught. I
am so glad that I got the opportunity to participate within this program and getting to talk to these teachers. It has made me realize even more that I
have chosen the right career path for myself. While interviewing the teacher I am working with throughout my practicum, Mrs. Reynolds, I have
learned a lot about her teaching background. She went to college at Eastern Illinois University. At first, she thought that she wanted to become a
News Anchor. She loved the idea of speaking to an audience. Within her second year of college at Eastern, she decided that she really did not want
to be a News Anchor anymore due to her struggling through all the advanced math classes that were required for that degree. She had many long talks
with her mom about what career path would be the best choice for her. Her mom, being a teacher herself, convinced her that she should get her
teaching degree. Mrs. Reynolds' mom reminded her of the many benefits of becoming a teacher including having summers off work, and being able to
spend more time with her future children. Although Mrs. Reynolds still wasn't convinced that was what she wanted to do the rest of her life, she went
on to get her teaching degree

Teacher As A High School Teacher
I've known for a while that I want to do something that helps better shape the lives of young people. I have had some excellent teachers over the
years, and I want to be able to do what they did for me for other students. My mother and a few of my other relatives and family friends are teachers,
so I've seen and heard about the experience firsthand for most of life. Sometimes my mom comes home and says she had a great day and she loves
her job, but other times she is pretty miserable. Seeing the smile and the struggle that comes with teaching is what really inspired me. A job where
you have a perfect, enjoyable day every day of the year does not exist. Every job comes with a little bit of struggle; without struggle it won't get better.
The first secondary school was originally meant to train and prepare students to enter the clergy. In the 1800s secondary schooling became available
for children from different social standings, and in the early 1900s attending secondary school was made mandatory in the US (Career in Focus
Education, p. 40). The secondary school system has progressed quite a bit over the years for students and teachers alike.
The job of a secondary teacher is composed of several parts, but the most important part is the actual teaching. Not only do high school teachers educate
students on specific subjects, they also inform students about colleges, jobs, and sometimes multiple subjects. High school teachers can teach basic,
core subjects such as math and

Personal Statement On Teacher Teachers
Upon my arrival, the children were engaged in free play activities. However, about five minutes later the teacher called them to the music center. She
informed them that they would do a music and movement activity inside because of the weather (it had been raining earlier that morning). There were
ten children present along with two teachers. The children appeared to be happy and engaged.
Teacher Lesson Plans The teacher did use a lesson plan. She pulled her resources from the Creative Curriculum for all of her subjects. As an
educator, my students will not use the same system. I will implement and use the system that is utilized by the school system. I will also use
technology to get classroom ideas or worksheets. One of the websites I plan on researching is teacher pay teacher website. This website offers free
down loads of materials, handouts and workbooks and the materials were created by teacher (Teacher Pay Teacher). The children are involved in
planning and contributing in the lessons. The teacher asks for the students input. She involves them by asking them questions about things they would
like to know and if they are interested in learning about certain subjects. She then implements their thoughts or questions into her lesson plan pertaining
to the subject.
Lesson Observed One of the lessons I observed was the music and movement activity. Nine of the students were involved in this activity. The other
child was playing with the puzzles. The teacher was engaged

Out with the Old in with the New
Education is the single most important factor in not only an individual's life and their outcome for success, but also the outcome of future success in
America. In order for our country to be successful we must invest in our future generations and the training they will need once they move on to their
future endeavors. Although America spends vast amounts of money each year oneducation, money is not always the answer. We must improve the
performance in our classrooms by making sure we have the strongest faculty possible. Teachers being given the luxury of tenure are hurting student
performance and the performance of America. Tenure is not only allowing teachers to keep their jobs secure based off... Show more content on

The future of education relies on technology and many teachers that hold tenure have not grown up around such technology. This restricts them on
their ability to utilize technology in order to relate to their students. With the high school drop out rate increasing each year, teachers must be well
equipped with skills of not only the Internet, but also power points, online lectures, and also online tutoring that all their students may have access to.
Society has risen the new generation of students to live off technology. Hardly ever do students look something up in a book rather than resorting to
Google to find their answer. In a result, teachers that are younger with less experience in the classroom, tend to have more experience with the
technological tactics of learning that many present day students prefer. Relating to the students learning habits is crucial for their future success in
higher education. Firing a teacher with tenure is a very long and difficult process. It may take up to a year before the courts become involved before a
teacher may lose their tenure. Teacher tenure requires schools to make long–term spending commitments and prevents districts from being fiscally
flexible. Teacher employment contracts generally lack provisions for declining enrollment and economic turmoil. As a high school student, I saw many
first hand accounts on the effects of tenure. Although it does affect teachers the most, the community around the school may be

Teacher Tenure began more than a century ago. Teacher tenure, requires due process be pursued before a teacher protected by tenure are fired. In
order for a teacher to gain tenure, they must have completed a probationary period of 3 years. Once the teacher has acquired tenure, they will then
have the right to due process which gives them a justified reason as to why they are being fired and their dismissal will be decided by an unbiased
party. Tenure, does not stop a teacher from getting fired, but ensures that the employer shows substantial reasons for the teacher's removal through due
process. The protection tenure and due process gives teacher's is still needed. Due process ensures that, teachers cannot be fired for erratic reasons

Merit Pay For Teachers And Teachers
Merit Pay for Teachers President Barack Obama said in a recent speech that "The future belongs to the nation that best educates its citizens ... It is time
to give all Americans a complete and competitive education" (Stout). His first point has become evident over time. The nations that best educate their
children will have power in the future. He also mentions giving Americans a competitive education. This is referring to implementing a form of merit
pay for teachers; paying bonuses to a teachers' salary based on their performance, and that of their students. Some states have already started using merit
pay programs. Merit pay encourages teachers to work harder at assisting their students in learning. Replacing the current public education system with a
merit–based system would rid the education community of bad teachers. It would attract a higher achieving work force to teaching and encourage
overall improvement in schools. This would all lead to better teachers and more student success in schools. Most public education systems currently
use a matrix or grid to decide how much money teachers are paid. Salaries are based almost purely on how many years teachers have taught, and how
much college education they have. This system does not take into account how hard the teachers work, what kind of programs they teach, or how well
they help students succeed. Tom Luna, the Superintendent of Public Instruction in Idaho, said in an interview, "[teachers] are paid based

A Teacher : A Career As A Teacher
Throughout most of my life, I've always thought that being a teacher would be fun, especially teaching middle school students. I would get to
interact with kids while I help them learn. The job title that I would have would be a middle school teacher. My major qualifies me for being a
middle school teacher, but I could also teach other elementary grades ("How to Write a Teacher Job Description." Jobs, ). "Middleschool teachers
educate students typically in sixth through eighth grade" ("Summary"). I chose this career because I think middle school is the most important time in a
child's life. Middle schoolers need guidance, and teachers help them. It is important to understand the education or training requirements, skills or
talents needed, salary or benefits offered, and the duties for a particular career when making the decision. The environment I would be working in
would be boisterous and tumultuous. I would be the only adult in charge of about 20 students every day. The normal work hours would be about 7–8
hours. Teachers can be found all over the world, so the job opportunities are everywhere. I would like to teach in a small rural town because that is
the setting where I learned when I was a student. I would never leave Oklahoma because I couldn't bear leaving my family.

assignments. After they prepare it, they must

Teaching Strategies For Teachers And Teachers
The greatest perception of what strategies work in the classrooms come from teachers because they are daily working in them. The CCSS (Common
Core Standards) was implemented as a guide for teachers what students need to be learning in school. It doesn't show how teachers should teach in the
classroom. The people that decide how to teach in the administration of schools and teachers. They decide what strategies will work best to help the
students to learn better. Professional Development for teachers are very important to discuss and collaborate about teaching strategies and what works
for students. This workshops are imperative for teachers to learn from experts on the educations field. With teacher grade level collaboration can
develop professionally by analyzing common core standards. These can create encouragement proficiency for the standards. The development of an
instruction map can assist with instructional planning. Schools need to prioritize Professional Development in school, it is important learning time for
teachers–. It need to be a priority for administrators because is the key for teachers to grow professionally and school to succeed. This valuable
information can be transmitted to our classrooms for daily practice. The administration and coaches have the obligation to support teachers by giving

For any profession, you need to continuously seek knowledge to see growth and better yourself in order to be great at what you do. This is especially
true for education. Our society and students are forever changing meaning that their way of learning will continue to change as well. Like Pat Riley
said "If you're not getting better you're getting worse"; thus, it is important to be engaged and committed to looking for ways to improve the
classroom, myself as a professional or to learn new strategies. In my placements at the Linn–Mar School District, I was blessed with an opportunity to
work with some great professionals. We assessed each other's teaching all of the time. I got the opportunity to bounce ideas off each other and help
progress our teaching even further. Often times I talked with my CT about my teaching. I would ask them what they thought, if they had any
suggestions, and many other "group think" discussion questions in order to improve my teaching. Every Monday morning, at the high school, we would
meet with our professional learning communities, PLCs, and work on different ways to improve our classes. One conversation I had frequently with
my CT, which then came up in our PLC, was assessing homework versus using a formative check or assessment. In our PLCs, we anticipate struggle
areas for students, discuss the different ways each one of teaches taught those concepts, collaborate on data from assessments. We did a lot of assessing

Because we are to respect our teachers, when I am taught macroevolution, I take on board what my teacher teaches, when I am given homework on

Ok this is what I am taught by my philosophy teacher– science does not exist only scientists exist, I carried this forward and got a "B" and said
scientists do not exist only men exist and those men are prone to practice science that relates to their worldview.
My science teacher said science works by a process of continually running into brick walls, the brick walls are there to alert them that they are on the
wrong path, my addition to this– some prefer to create ladders to sit on the wall rather than turn back, his response? Yes that's true.
So do be careful in your thinking, I notice that you start from your worldview and make things fit that, I once did that too. So you are right to question

Teacher Shortages
Teacher Shortages – In many areas of Alabama there are subject–specific teacher shortages, especially in the area of secondary mathematics. As I travel
from school to school, I have found that many of the middle and high schools I visit have unfilled mathematics positions. Many of these schools are in
economically disadvantaged areas of the state, but the teacher shortage issue is not isolated to a particular area or demographic. I have found
classrooms staffed by long–term substitutes in wealthy systems, poor systems, systems in North Alabama, systems in South Alabama, and systems of
every racial make–up. Most, if not all, of these long term subs are not qualified to teach mathematics which leaves many of the students an academic
year behind their peers. I have also identified another disturbing teacher trend that is impacting student learning. In the "hard–to–staff", poor, rural areas
of South Alabama, there appears to be a pool of ineffective, poorly trained mathematics teachers who rotate from school to school. Every year these
teachers are released by their systems, move one county, city, or system over and get a new job. The lack of qualified, effective teachers to take their
places ensures that these teachers will continue to teach many of our most vulnerable students. Student Apathy – In many cases, it doesn't matter how
talented the teacher is, it doesn't matter what curriculum a school is using, it doesn't matter how much professional development the staff

Teacher Reflection
This passage from the book exemplifies the importance of a role that a teacher plays in a child's life. Teachers have the ability to improve a child's life
without even realizing it – a refreshing revelation for both new and old teachers who may often wonder if they have ever made a difference. In most
classrooms there will be students who will say they do not wish to be there and do not want to learn. And while the student's unwillingness to learn is
frustrating for teachers at times, the teacher creates the learning environment and can do much to motivate her students to succeed. By implementing
effective teaching strategies, teachers can influence and motivate their students.

A Teacher : A Career As A Teacher
The career I chose that I believe wouldn't suit me was a teacher, one of the reasons being that Teaching just isn't something I would like to do. I
don't believe I could handle being a teacher, grading papers constantly, dealing with the disrespectful kids. When looking at the careers of being a
Social Worker and a Teacher, being a Social Worker is clearly the best option for me because it deals with all kids and gives me the opportunity to help
children have a better life.
Teaching in a high school entails a lot, there is lots of at home work, It's almost a 24/7 job. There's lots of paperwork, papers to grade, test and
quizzes to make, lessons to plan, and you have to make them in a way that will help all the students learn. You have to be able to deal with high
stress situations, stand for long periods of time, be able to grade not only in a work area, but at home as well. All in all I would not be able to be the

I asked Mrs. Barkley if she worked with other teachers to plan and jointly facilitate learning; she told me that she personally does not. She said that she

She has been a huge influence on my life. I can not wait to share the things I have learned from her in this interview. First question was what made

The Philosophy Of A Teacher
Educators have a tremendous responsibility not only to prepare students for their lives ahead but also contribute to the evolution of knowledge for
future generations. Each generation educates the next and as the torch is passed we refine our methods. The philosophy of education seeks to study the
process and discipline of education in order to understand how it works. The philosophy of a teacher is his or her description of their goals and
beliefs and how they will be put into action in a classroom. Teaching is recognized as one of the most challenging and respected career choices one
can make .The teacher's task is sometimes difficult based on the subject and the age of the students to which he or she is trying to teach.
These philosophies or ideas will change based on one 's experience and training. I believe as Erickson who was a philosopher on education, who
believed that" children go through a series of mini crisis as they mature and it is a part of the educator's duties to assist them in making the transition as
they proceed through life. When these crisis present themselves as a behavior problem that prevent me from contributing to the transition and evolution
of that student's knowledge, then the parents must become involved. The first institution of a child where he or she learns is their home and the
environment provided by their parents. The

Arming Teachers
Is arming teachers a productive solution against future school shootings? Teachers carrying guns in school is currently a controversial issue in
America, especially after a mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, which killed seventeen people on February
14th, 2018. Many people firmly encourage the idea that teachers should be allowed to bring guns to school because teachers can protect students if a
shooting happens on–campus. Nevertheless, a lot of people wrestle with the idea of armed educators. Specifically, a strong disagreement from many
teachers is because teachers' duty is to educate students, and teachers are not police officers. Another opposition from students is they believe that

In South Dakota, educators have joined the program named "school sentinels" that allows them to be armed with weapons. In order to qualify this
program, teachers have to not only "be approved by the school board or a law enforcement agency," but also be trained "eighty hours of use of force,
weapons proficiency, legal aspects and first aid classes" (Chavez 2018). After taking an eighty–hour firearm course, teachers can legally carry guns in
classes. I believe that eighty hours of training is a small amount for educators to be able to effectively control gun. Moreover, when joining the gun
control courses, they practice using guns with a comfortable mentality of practicing. Then, how can they accurately shoot the right targets in stressful
situations like firearms on campuses, in that they have to make right decisions in a few minutes? Teachers are not police officers; they are educators.
To become a police officer, he or she is taught on how to confidently deal with guns for more than four years in universities. According to Vox, "police

lazy teachers, the conciseness is that teachers give up because they lose their spark for education. Although this is not the main topic discussed in Linda
Christensen's "Introduction" to Teaching for Joy and Justice, it is necessary to tie lose ends up before continuing into further discussion. Yes, there are
teachers that are lazy and only care about themselves, however, there are also teachers that care more about their students. These are the teachers that
need to be talked about, because without them the whole educational system would be ruined. There will possibly be a time in every... Show more

This would make a world of difference in the educational system. Instead of focusing on the negative teacher that do not do this, focus on all the
teachers that do, do this. Start focusing on the positive and it will grow and spread, so maybe one day all teacher will have this attitude. Looking
further in to the idea of the daily routine, one would see that without all of this work teaching would not be what it is. A teacher has to teach thirty
students five days a week for ten months. That is a lot of lessons and activities that need to be thought out. Students often times see their teacher more
than their parents. This may seem overwhelming for teachers, but a driven person that teachers from the heat can find the motivation necessary to get
though this and make school great for students. It is easy to see how teacher can get into a rut, but getting out is the hard part. Reading Christensen's
piece about Teaching for Joy and Justice she gives many ideas on how a teacher can gain their spark back. One of the most successful ways is getting
students to write. This not only helps the teacher find motivation to do something different, but it also helps students improve their writing. When
teachers are in a rut they forget how amazing students could be. If a teacher gave wiring assignments relating to the students life, maybe they would
find passion. But going back to only talking about positive teachers, they are the ones that

Essay Best Teacher, Worst Teacher
Best Teacher, Worst Teacher
Although I have had many different types of teachers, there are two that stick out more than any others. The first was my third and sixth grade teacher.
She was the best teacher I ever had. The second was my seventh grade teacher. She was the worst I think a student could have had. Both, these teachers
had very different teaching styles and very different out looks on teaching. To be an effective teacher the teacher must respect the student and be willing
to go the extra mile to help the students learn all they can. In this paper, I will discuss the effectiveness of these two teachers and how their teaching
styles differed.
First of all, what is a good teacher? According ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I hope that I do not become a teacher like this.
Now that I can see the difference in good and bad teaching I have two teachers in mind that fit each description. The first being my favorite teacher.
She was both my third and sixth grade teacher. She showed me that I could be what ever I wanted to be. She made me feel that even though I was
not the best student in the class I still could be the best if I gave a little more. She motivated me to do all my work and gave me the extra boost I
need to learn. When the students in my class did something right she always praised us. She also played game with us to learn. According to the book
it says. ?If the teacher keeps the students involved they will be more likely to like school and learn in school.?
The second type of teacher is and ineffective teacher. This type of teacher does not motivate or enthuse their students to learn. My seventh grade
teacher was this type of teacher. She was a cake decorating teacher at the vocational center then became a math teacher overnight. At the begging of
class, every day she would stand at the board and say class be quiet class shut up. That's all she would say the whole class and we never got anything
done. Then if she would try to teach she would read out of the book and never give examples. If a student would ask a question she would say you?re
not dumb you know the answer. The teacher always put the students down. According to

According to Global Game Changers all kids dream of becoming superheros with the power to save their cities from seemingly unstoppable forces of
evil. However, they maintain that in today's society one doesn't need to run faster than the speeding bullet, have x–ray vision or possess superhuman
strength to change the world. "You just need compassion." (GlobalGameChangers.com) I couldn't agree more! Any teacher worth his salt understands
that this compassion training must begin in the elementary years. (Ideally kids come to school with this training already already begun by parents;
realistically, it isn't always that way.)Compassion along with a solid foundation of basic academic and life skills is the recipe for personal, community
and global success. Elementary students are tomorrow's doctors, nurses, construction workers and even teachers. Our future generations will depend on
these very students. This paper will explore how a teacher can make and mold a student into responsible, contributing citizen.
Developing a positive relationship with a student first is the key to that student being receptive to anything else a teacher has to offer. The student is
taught by the parents to be respectful to teachers, friends, and others. When the kids start school the teachers teach them how to work well with other
kids in the class. All students are responsible for picking up their trash and putting it in the trash bin. The parents teach their kids that they need to

Minority Teachers
This article whose focus was on minority teacher candidates in teacher education programs presented an argument that schools with increased numbers
of minority teachers will have a richer multicultural knowledge base, stronger roles models, and more shared experiences between students and
teachers, and greater numbers of insider experiences that help build bridges between cultures (Szecsi & Spillman, 2012). The article touched on a few
of the "hindrances", like low pay and standardized test difficulties, but the purpose the article was to help readers gain an understanding of how
minorities in teacher education programs feel about their journey to becoming a teacher. The article showcased a study of three minority students in a

The interaction with students that looked like me and shared experiences like me was one of the most awesome times of my college career. It was also
nice to have professors that looked like me and speaking with them about their personal experiences of things many of us can only read about in
history books. My experience in college is what students need to experience in their schools and in their classrooms. The participants in the study
noted the same feelings as well. There was a connection that they could make with the students and their parents. This by far was the best article that I
read because it was personal and I was able to connect more with what these students felt while going through the program. It made me think of all the
things that I would have to do in order to recruit minority students to my building when I have one. How would I or would I be able to change the
demographics of my building to mirror the demographics of my students? In my opinion the information contained in this article is reliable because it
is authentic information from minority teachers during their time and struggle while learning how to become a teacher. I thought the article remained
objective throughout and the points presented not only need to be heard by school leaders but by non–minority teachers. The goal of this source is to
inform schools, both secondary and post–secondary, how and what should be done to attract and retain minorities to teacher education

The Roles Of Teachers ' Teachers
The roles of teachers
I believe teachers play multiple roles that extend beyond the classroom. They take classes continuously, attend professional development sessions, and
research new approaches to learning on their own time. These are done with the purpose of expanding their knowledge in teaching and to ensure that
the school day runs smoothly for the entire class. For example, Mrs. Shuffield spend her breaks researching videos to enhance her writing and science
lessons. This week, she presented a rap video on photosynthesis to help students memorize facts about it. The children really enjoyed it and I could
hear them singing it as they left the classroom.
Teachers act as role models to their students in hopes of inspiring them to greatness. As a future educator, I may be the only person in my students'
lives who teaches them the importance of hard work and good character. This is why it's essential for me to build a positive rapport with every child.
I want to teach them to be caring and compassionate members of society. By being a moral teacher, I will positively impact the moral development of
my students. My goal is to help each student learn to be a better version of themselves by the time they leave my classroom.
I believe successful teachers develop a strong partnership with students' parents. Having clear communication with parents can play a significant role in
a child's education. It is also the best way to avoid misunderstandings from the beginning of

Teacher Inductions
One third of teachers will leave the field within three years and nearly fifty percent will leave before they reach five years (Sadker 374). This
startlingly high statistic does not need to be set in stone. While there are certainly many reasons why a nascent teacher might choose to leave the
career, many leave for the simple reason that they are insufficiently prepared to meet its demands. This loss of qualified yet under prepared teachers
can be easily curtailed by dedicated programs of professional development and teacher inductions.

children as the teacher identifies patterns of behavior that depart from that of the other students, benefiting the entire class (Katz). This change
necessitates greater knowledge of specific behavioral issues and particular problems, making access to a wide range of resources for the teacher
invaluable. Specialists may provide insight into behavioral challenges and more experienced teaching colleagues provide further insight and build

Primary School Teachers : Primary Teachers
Primary school teachers educate primary school kids by arranging and directing an instruction system to create education and numeracy, and
additionally the physical, enthusiastic, scholarly and social development of their understudies. Some individual prerequisites of primary teachers
include: enjoying working with kids; are innovative and sorted out; are understanding in managing understudies of varying capacities; and have the
capacity to convey basically and unmistakably. From numerous points of view our capacity to convey characterizes us, it is one of the ways we are
judged and measured by others and the methods by which we produce our connections. It is normal that when a kid begins elementary school, they will
have the capacity to see quite a bit of what is said, communicate obviously, share their emotions and make their needs known. This level of capability
in discourse, dialect and correspondence is discriminating to the improvement of a child's subjective, social and passionate prosperity. The parts of
correspondence utilized as a primary teacher incorporate face to face correspondence, interceded correspondence, sexual orientation difference in
correspondence and many more.
Successful dialect aptitudes are fundamental for kids to get access to the educational program. In the classroom, spoken dialect is the essential medium
through which primary school teachers educate and students learn. Dialect advancement is acknowledged as being critical to intellectual

Why Teachers Should Be Paid For Teachers
You know not everyone wants to be a teacher when they grow up. I remember being small when grown–ups asking me what I wanted to be when I
grew up, and I would always say a teacher. What I didn't know was how hard it was being a teacher, all the paperwork, meetings, all their hard
work, and much more. Now, that I have grown and realised that being a teacher is hard work with a lot on your hands I decided it would be best to
become something else... even though there will be other stuff on that road also. An average teacher pay of about $42,000. A elementary teacher gets
paid at about 53,000, middle school slightly more than that, and highschool teacher about 55,000. For some teachers many actually don't have enough
hours of the day to do all of their work from school, teachers go through alot in one day of school yet still their getting paid less than people that aren't
even important, teachers teach the base of our foundations, the children, even though teachers go through a lot some people debate that they don't
deserve getting paid more because they say that paying teachers more will not improve a child's education.

Teacher Essay: My Worst Teacher
During my high school years, there were several teachers that I encountered. However, there was one teacher whom I shall never forget. In fact,
he would be very difficult to forget, even if he were only remembered for his size, for he was an enormous man. His name is Anthony Sweeney of
"Sugar Butty" my third form math teacher. To this point, I never knew the exact reason for such name but all students referred to him in such
manner. He was six feet five inches tall and towered over us like a giant and he weighed over three hundred pounds. I never discovered his exact age,
but, he must have been no more than forty, even though his hair had turned grey relatively early on, and there was a smooth shiny bald patch on the
crown of his head. But, it is not just for his size that I remembered him. In fact, one of the things with I remembered distinctively was his sudden
change in temper. One moment he would be very jovial and pleasant to speak to in class, and the next he would shout violently at some timid student
who was merely looking through the window or he would become very mean and impatient with his students. For these reason, he became my absolute
worst teacher.
Most certainly, a student would be subjected to his ambush of abuse daily. We... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sweeney's bark was far worse than his bite in some instances; as many times, he demonstrated his generosity and kindness when he offered to buy

than he already was. He also treated us as though we were incapable of learning and we were absolutely terrified of him. Hence, the entire year of
math class was a nightmare as it was filled with humiliation and anger. So, I have decided in my profession career as teacher not to become like Mr
Sweeney but rather provide an environment where my students can become the best at whatever their heart

A Good Teacher As A Teacher
A great teacher like Mrs. Lee does not just teach students but has the remarkable ability to change a student's way of learning. School has always
been important to me and I have been lucky enough to have had some very good teachers along the way. The perquisite for me having all those good
teachers is I always knew what I wanted to do with my life. As a student, it was advantageous to have a teacher that can have such an impact on me.
Mrs. Lee was my eight grade English Teacher. She was a powerful influencer for me because her style of teaching turned learning into an
enjoyment. Mrs. Lee made learning very feasible. An example of this is I had often spent hours deliberating over homework and still felt utterly
clueless. She had influenced me to not stop at a barrier but, to overcome it to the best of my ability. Often, I felt as if Mrs. Lee was the little voice in
my head chanting me on to the finish line. She cared about each of her students as individuals. Just like a parent, she would constantly express words
of gratitude. She would come in early or stay after school. I would come in regularly in the morning, to which I remembered the smell of warm coffee
and sweet peppermints. Even the smell of her eloquent perfume was comforting to me. Mrs. Lee wanted all her students to succeed, not to just be
successful in her class but in the future. Mrs. Lee had an uncanny philosophy for teaching. I have always excelled in math and science because those

The Problem Of A Teacher
Teachers are humans like the rest of us, and can be lazy. They can't always be blamed for having an "off day" as we all have them, but sometimes
teachers take advantage of the fact that it's tougher to get fired as a teacher than a lot of other jobs. When a teacher has been there for a long time,
it can be a very difficult task to get them fired if they're taking advantage of their tenure. A new teacher almost always starts out great, happy, and
very excited to teach their class. An issue is, over time teachers can become lazy, as can people with other jobs. The issue with a lazy teacher,
though, is that the student's future is in the hands of the teacher. When teachers are lazy, sometimes they'll give out what is called "busy work," used
to waste time, and give them something to do while the teacher sits and does what they want. There are two ways this is a huge issue: first, this
doesn't help students at all, meaning that the time they spent doing it helps get them nowhere, and is completely pointless. Second, students can
carelessly complete the work, and take advantage of the teacher not caring. After time, a teacher not caring isn't a reason for them being fired, due to
the fact that they're a union, and unless they commit a serious crime as shown on plenty of news stations, then they're free to do as they please as
long as they aren't necessarily breaking the law. Teaching can be one of the toughest jobs out there, and many people take it as a job anyone can do.

The Popularity of Teachers
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE The researcher has found the following studies and literature as relevant to the system being proposed.
FOREIGN LITERATURE Teacher education is a commonly studied predictor of quality in early childhood classrooms and it has been consistently
associated with teacher effectiveness in early childhood classrooms (Bowman et al., 2001; de Kruif et al., 2000; Helburn et al., 1995). Teachers can
be popular just because they are friendly and helpful, but to be truly professional and effective they need other qualities. Students may not be able to
put their finger on just why one teacher is more effective than another but we need to be able to identify the skills and behavior we require in a true
professional. Teachers... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
McBer (2000), from a series of interviews with teachers, identified 16 "professional characteristics", including personality traits and individual
attitudes, which she then classified into five groups: a) Professionalism: commitment, confidence, trustworthiness, respect;. b) Thinking: analytic and
conceptual thinking; c) Expectations: disposal of achievement of high objectives, disposal for permanent comprehension of reality (e.g. the students,
the order), and undertaking of initiatives; d) Leadership: flexibility, accountability, passion for learning; e) Relations with other: fertile interaction

There are many aspects to being a great teacher. Being a great teacher is not only based on academic success of the students, but they make you want
to go to school. Teachers help shape the lives of the upcoming generations. How they affect the students affects the world. They play a big role in a
student's lives. One thing about teacher's everyone should know is that especially on an elementary school level they need to think outside the box. They

In addition to that I could not see how the teachers talked or solved solutions within the class. The second place I observed was at Montebello

time I observed, they moved the furniture many times, accommodating to each subject. It helped separate students for independent study as well
as accommodating to large group activities. In this classroom everything was bright and exciting, the children's work was hung up for the class to

Essay On Teacher Is A Teacher
Back when I was in high school, a student from the lower batch came to me asking what a teacher is. "A teacher is someone who teaches." I
answered. "That's it? That's your definition? Well, never mind." The girl said. And then, I was like, what? Why would she ask me such a
question? It really bothered me the whole day. Then, I thought to myself, "Well, a teacher could be anything or anyone as long as that thing or that
person contributes to our knowledge." That's the time I realized that a teacher is not simply a teacher. There's more to it than a dictionary
meaning. An educator is not merely a person who takes a course reading and reads texts from there to a student. A teacher can be a parent, an
experience or simply a teacher or professor. As a daughter, I can say that parents are great teachers. They are the ones who took good care for us the
longest. They are the teachers that will never ever fail and make us feel like we're stupid. According to Andrea Canter, Ph.D., NCSP, we feel safe and
supported if parents get involve in our education to assure that we are learning to the best of our ability. Parents are the most patient teachers for they
have taught us all throughout our innocent times. Even if we goof and joke around, they will never get tired of all of our crazy antics. They taught us
even when we are in the phase of stubbornness. Although they are great, I for oneself, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Teacher Retention

  • 1. Teacher Retention Research Question: What role does teacher recruitment and retention play in creating student achievement in urban schools? What keeps teachers in the classroom, while others flee to "greener pastures?" What can we do to increase the holding power of the educational arena? The answers to these questions are unclear and multi–faceted. Creating a stable teaching force in the American public school systems is urgent and requires immediate attention. High turnover rates create instability in the American school system. An unstable workforce affects a schools ability to create coherent and progressive instruction across grade levels and make it difficult for schools to implement new, innovative, and lasting reform initiatives that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They create the missions, philosophies, and visions that define their institution. It is essential that administrators are involved in the schools operational format. "Teachers crave effective principals who make a concerted effort to become personally involved in providing support for the teachers," (Mihans, 2008, p. 763). Support is a fundamental issue that can cause a teacher to either run away from a difficult situation or stay and fight. This support is key for many teachers who work in difficult situations like urban districts. As previously stated many of these teachers are already working in schools with poor working conditions, but if they have a principal who is supportive and provides them with the backing they need then they are more likely to remain in their current position. Administrators can help retain teachers by providing them with constructive feedback. Regular feedback about a teachers' performance and their abilities both in and out of the classroom are crucial. By nature, teachers are learners and thrive in an environment in which they can learn and grow. One way they can grow is through constant information about their performance. Administrators are the central catalyst of change. If they are not ingrained into every part of the schools organizational structure then change will not occur. They must create, "school structures that promote integrated professional cultures with time during ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Teacher As A Teacher Essay Teachers have been in existence for thousands of years, influencing the lives of countless people. A teacher as "a person who teaches" and teaching as "giving systematic information to a person or about a subject or skill." Yet, these definitions do not sufficiently explain the true role of a teacher. Clearly, a teacher provides information and imparts knowledge to his or her students. A teacher, however, is more than an instructor; a teacher is a motivator, a counsellor, and an ally. Teacher may be the strongest motivating force in a student's life. If a teacher successfully achieves student motivation, then he or she has met an essential teaching goal. A good teacher is like a good coach–always encouraging and always supportive. Teachers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Motivation in teaching comes from an innate need to better students' lives; being a teacher means to relentlessly strive to motivate students to succeed. As a motivator, teachers also have an innate ability to guide students in education and career choices. This is where teachers excel as counsellors. Many students will question their future; through knowledge and experience, teachers guide students in the best direction to success. Not all students will figure out what they want to do in life immediately; therefore, teachers must continuously guide students throughout their years of education. A teacher's ability to direct is a powerful tool. With strong motivational and counselling skills, teachers become a powerful ally for students experiencing difficulties. School can be a constant battle for students, many of whom rely on teachers as supporters. Teachers who turns his or her back on a struggling student is a deserter to the student and a failure to the teaching profession. This does not mean a teacher must become a student's best friend; students often do not want a friend from their teachers, but, rather, an ally. As an ally, teachers strive to provide a positive and comfortable environment for students. In doing so, students' struggles with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Types of Teachers Types of Teachers Marko Mihajloski South East European University Course Name: Skills V Professor's Name: Estela Eaton Date: 23.12.2012 Abstract This paper explains three different types of teachers and their role and impact over the educational system. By the same token it is emphasized that the teacher is an important part of the learning process who impacts the shaping of the lives of young children. The relationship between a student and a teacher is a difficult one in most of cases and it is something that raises problems which need to be resolved. At this point every teacher has different way of presenting and teaching the given material and the crucial role in establishing a good and fruitful... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many psychological studies, such as Baumrind (1971) which shows the various parenting styles can correlate with various teachers' classroom styles in the sense that a good model of a parent is an appropriate model for teacher. According to the study, the crucial elements of relationships are the responsiveness and demandingness. Considering these elements teachers can be classified as authoritative, intimate, and indifferent. Authoritative teachers will be characterized by a high response, and a high demand, and are considered to be the closest to the ideal picture of a teacher. Most of them can be described with personality traits such as: curious, creative, attentive, principled, astute, patient, hardworking, gregarious, communicative, and openhearted and perhaps the most important, proficient. They are eager to know something more about the student apart from their first and last name, something more about their individuality, more personal. They are more likely to build a good relationship with the students and will allow them participation in the class, as long as it is something relevant to the topic of the lesson, so the student involvement in the class is at a very high rate. These ways of participations are "important predictors of social and academic adjustment" (Hughes, 2002). The authoritative classroom might be an excellent opportunity for developing speaking skills, because an authoritative teacher is open to feedback ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Teachers Of The Teacher All of the teachers I observed had many different ways to manage their classroom. Many of their ways were similar, but there were some differences too. I noticed that the female teachers used songs to get the children from one activity to another while the male teacher went right into the next lesson. All of the teachers welcomed their students as they came into the classroom. Mrs. Pollard sang the hello song to them and Mrs. Kraus did as well. After they welcomed the children, all of the teachers had their students go directly to their carpet spots. Mr. Leonhardt had three different seating types for the students, which I thought was different yet effective. There were team spots, dance lines and free seating. When the students were... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of the teachers were stricter about handling this than others, but they were all still effective. Both Mrs. Kraus and Mrs. Pollard had songs for a lot of their transitions and Mrs. Pollard had a "Sparkle Master" to reward good behavior and give the students a chance to stand out in class. It was a special way to get them involved with singing to their classmates individually. Mrs. Kraus had a process with the younger kids for continuity. She started with a hello song of some sort and then had them sing their school song and patriotic songs. Those were the kids' warm ups. After those, she went right into the lessons. She did not always introduce the concept, but she explained what the kids were going to do that day. Mrs. Pollard was the only one who used the Orff instruments at my observations, so whenever she had the kids go to the Orff instruments, she called each row to line up at the Orff instruments and told them to be careful and not hit them. The children already knew how they were supposed to go to the Orff instruments because she had already made rules on how they act around them. When they left the Orff instruments she called each row to stand up and walk single file out of the rows of instruments. Mrs. Kraus, Mr. Leonhardt and Mrs. Pollard were all Kodaly oriented in their lessons and whenever they were doing the "practicing" part of the method, they were walking around to make sure the students were doing the correct thing The ... • 5. Collaboration Between Teachers And Teachers Plan for collaboration Collaboration between teachers is a key component to professional development that will lead to higher student achievement. There is a need for schools to set up time for teachers to be able to collaborate together. This allows for teachers to help each other, matchup content, teach each other new and best practices, troubleshoot student issues just to name a few of the areas that collaboration time can help foster within a school. The key is to build time for teachers to be able to collaborate during the school day or week. This collaboration time needs to be between grade levels, departments, and cross curricular when needed. For many schools this is an afterthought to the school schedule or a fleeting thought after the master schedule is completed. A principal needs to keep an open mind to any strategy that will enable the teachers to be able to collaborate for the good of the students and the school. Currently at Wahlert, collaboration time has been built into the schedule to two ways, though the amount of time and who is available are not always the most convenient. The first block of time is built in during our seminar period. Seminar is roughly thirty minutes long and you have two days a week with students and two days without. Most teachers have roughly one hour a week built in to do PLC and collaborate with others, though the time is also used to reteach lessons to students, have students retake tests, and meet with clubs or other ... • 6. A Teacher Interview : Interview As A Teacher Teacher Interview While attending South Elementary School in Marshall, Illinois, I have learned a lot about the daily life of working within a school from interviewing two different teachers. I have never realized how much work goes into being a teacher no matter the grade being taught. I am so glad that I got the opportunity to participate within this program and getting to talk to these teachers. It has made me realize even more that I have chosen the right career path for myself. While interviewing the teacher I am working with throughout my practicum, Mrs. Reynolds, I have learned a lot about her teaching background. She went to college at Eastern Illinois University. At first, she thought that she wanted to become a News Anchor. She loved the idea of speaking to an audience. Within her second year of college at Eastern, she decided that she really did not want to be a News Anchor anymore due to her struggling through all the advanced math classes that were required for that degree. She had many long talks with her mom about what career path would be the best choice for her. Her mom, being a teacher herself, convinced her that she should get her teaching degree. Mrs. Reynolds' mom reminded her of the many benefits of becoming a teacher including having summers off work, and being able to spend more time with her future children. Although Mrs. Reynolds still wasn't convinced that was what she wanted to do the rest of her life, she went on to get her teaching degree ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Teacher As A High School Teacher I've known for a while that I want to do something that helps better shape the lives of young people. I have had some excellent teachers over the years, and I want to be able to do what they did for me for other students. My mother and a few of my other relatives and family friends are teachers, so I've seen and heard about the experience firsthand for most of life. Sometimes my mom comes home and says she had a great day and she loves her job, but other times she is pretty miserable. Seeing the smile and the struggle that comes with teaching is what really inspired me. A job where you have a perfect, enjoyable day every day of the year does not exist. Every job comes with a little bit of struggle; without struggle it won't get better. The first secondary school was originally meant to train and prepare students to enter the clergy. In the 1800s secondary schooling became available for children from different social standings, and in the early 1900s attending secondary school was made mandatory in the US (Career in Focus Education, p. 40). The secondary school system has progressed quite a bit over the years for students and teachers alike. The job of a secondary teacher is composed of several parts, but the most important part is the actual teaching. Not only do high school teachers educate students on specific subjects, they also inform students about colleges, jobs, and sometimes multiple subjects. High school teachers can teach basic, core subjects such as math and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Personal Statement On Teacher Teachers Upon my arrival, the children were engaged in free play activities. However, about five minutes later the teacher called them to the music center. She informed them that they would do a music and movement activity inside because of the weather (it had been raining earlier that morning). There were ten children present along with two teachers. The children appeared to be happy and engaged. Teacher Lesson Plans The teacher did use a lesson plan. She pulled her resources from the Creative Curriculum for all of her subjects. As an educator, my students will not use the same system. I will implement and use the system that is utilized by the school system. I will also use technology to get classroom ideas or worksheets. One of the websites I plan on researching is teacher pay teacher website. This website offers free down loads of materials, handouts and workbooks and the materials were created by teacher (Teacher Pay Teacher). The children are involved in planning and contributing in the lessons. The teacher asks for the students input. She involves them by asking them questions about things they would like to know and if they are interested in learning about certain subjects. She then implements their thoughts or questions into her lesson plan pertaining to the subject. Lesson Observed One of the lessons I observed was the music and movement activity. Nine of the students were involved in this activity. The other child was playing with the puzzles. The teacher was engaged ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Teacher Out with the Old in with the New Education is the single most important factor in not only an individual's life and their outcome for success, but also the outcome of future success in America. In order for our country to be successful we must invest in our future generations and the training they will need once they move on to their future endeavors. Although America spends vast amounts of money each year oneducation, money is not always the answer. We must improve the performance in our classrooms by making sure we have the strongest faculty possible. Teachers being given the luxury of tenure are hurting student performance and the performance of America. Tenure is not only allowing teachers to keep their jobs secure based off... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The future of education relies on technology and many teachers that hold tenure have not grown up around such technology. This restricts them on their ability to utilize technology in order to relate to their students. With the high school drop out rate increasing each year, teachers must be well equipped with skills of not only the Internet, but also power points, online lectures, and also online tutoring that all their students may have access to. Society has risen the new generation of students to live off technology. Hardly ever do students look something up in a book rather than resorting to Google to find their answer. In a result, teachers that are younger with less experience in the classroom, tend to have more experience with the technological tactics of learning that many present day students prefer. Relating to the students learning habits is crucial for their future success in higher education. Firing a teacher with tenure is a very long and difficult process. It may take up to a year before the courts become involved before a teacher may lose their tenure. Teacher tenure requires schools to make long–term spending commitments and prevents districts from being fiscally flexible. Teacher employment contracts generally lack provisions for declining enrollment and economic turmoil. As a high school student, I saw many first hand accounts on the effects of tenure. Although it does affect teachers the most, the community around the school may be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Teacher Tenure Teacher Tenure began more than a century ago. Teacher tenure, requires due process be pursued before a teacher protected by tenure are fired. In order for a teacher to gain tenure, they must have completed a probationary period of 3 years. Once the teacher has acquired tenure, they will then have the right to due process which gives them a justified reason as to why they are being fired and their dismissal will be decided by an unbiased party. Tenure, does not stop a teacher from getting fired, but ensures that the employer shows substantial reasons for the teacher's removal through due process. The protection tenure and due process gives teacher's is still needed. Due process ensures that, teachers cannot be fired for erratic reasons ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Merit Pay For Teachers And Teachers Merit Pay for Teachers President Barack Obama said in a recent speech that "The future belongs to the nation that best educates its citizens ... It is time to give all Americans a complete and competitive education" (Stout). His first point has become evident over time. The nations that best educate their children will have power in the future. He also mentions giving Americans a competitive education. This is referring to implementing a form of merit pay for teachers; paying bonuses to a teachers' salary based on their performance, and that of their students. Some states have already started using merit pay programs. Merit pay encourages teachers to work harder at assisting their students in learning. Replacing the current public education system with a merit–based system would rid the education community of bad teachers. It would attract a higher achieving work force to teaching and encourage overall improvement in schools. This would all lead to better teachers and more student success in schools. Most public education systems currently use a matrix or grid to decide how much money teachers are paid. Salaries are based almost purely on how many years teachers have taught, and how much college education they have. This system does not take into account how hard the teachers work, what kind of programs they teach, or how well they help students succeed. Tom Luna, the Superintendent of Public Instruction in Idaho, said in an interview, "[teachers] are paid based ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. A Teacher : A Career As A Teacher Throughout most of my life, I've always thought that being a teacher would be fun, especially teaching middle school students. I would get to interact with kids while I help them learn. The job title that I would have would be a middle school teacher. My major qualifies me for being a middle school teacher, but I could also teach other elementary grades ("How to Write a Teacher Job Description." Jobs, ). "Middleschool teachers educate students typically in sixth through eighth grade" ("Summary"). I chose this career because I think middle school is the most important time in a child's life. Middle schoolers need guidance, and teachers help them. It is important to understand the education or training requirements, skills or talents needed, salary or benefits offered, and the duties for a particular career when making the decision. The environment I would be working in would be boisterous and tumultuous. I would be the only adult in charge of about 20 students every day. The normal work hours would be about 7–8 hours. Teachers can be found all over the world, so the job opportunities are everywhere. I would like to teach in a small rural town because that is the setting where I learned when I was a student. I would never leave Oklahoma because I couldn't bear leaving my family. My daily routine as a teacher will be organized. • 13. Teaching Strategies For Teachers And Teachers The greatest perception of what strategies work in the classrooms come from teachers because they are daily working in them. The CCSS (Common Core Standards) was implemented as a guide for teachers what students need to be learning in school. It doesn't show how teachers should teach in the classroom. The people that decide how to teach in the administration of schools and teachers. They decide what strategies will work best to help the students to learn better. Professional Development for teachers are very important to discuss and collaborate about teaching strategies and what works for students. This workshops are imperative for teachers to learn from experts on the educations field. With teacher grade level collaboration can develop professionally by analyzing common core standards. These can create encouragement proficiency for the standards. The development of an instruction map can assist with instructional planning. Schools need to prioritize Professional Development in school, it is important learning time for teachers–. It need to be a priority for administrators because is the key for teachers to grow professionally and school to succeed. • 14. Teacher Reflection For any profession, you need to continuously seek knowledge to see growth and better yourself in order to be great at what you do. This is especially true for education. Our society and students are forever changing meaning that their way of learning will continue to change as well. Like Pat Riley said "If you're not getting better you're getting worse"; thus, it is important to be engaged and committed to looking for ways to improve the classroom, myself as a professional or to learn new strategies. In my placements at the Linn–Mar School District, I was blessed with an opportunity to work with some great professionals. We assessed each other's teaching all of the time. I got the opportunity to bounce ideas off each other and help progress our teaching even further. Often times I talked with my CT about my teaching. I would ask them what they thought, if they had any suggestions, and many other "group think" discussion questions in order to improve my teaching. Every Monday morning, at the high school, we would meet with our professional learning communities, PLCs, and work on different ways to improve our classes. One conversation I had frequently with my CT, which then came up in our PLC, was assessing homework versus using a formative check or assessment. In our PLCs, we anticipate struggle areas for students, discuss the different ways each one of teaches taught those concepts, collaborate on data from assessments. We did a lot of assessing of each other, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Teacher Shortages Teacher Shortages – In many areas of Alabama there are subject–specific teacher shortages, especially in the area of secondary mathematics. As I travel from school to school, I have found that many of the middle and high schools I visit have unfilled mathematics positions. Many of these schools are in economically disadvantaged areas of the state, but the teacher shortage issue is not isolated to a particular area or demographic. I have found classrooms staffed by long–term substitutes in wealthy systems, poor systems, systems in North Alabama, systems in South Alabama, and systems of every racial make–up. Most, if not all, of these long term subs are not qualified to teach mathematics which leaves many of the students an academic year behind their peers. I have also identified another disturbing teacher trend that is impacting student learning. In the "hard–to–staff", poor, rural areas of South Alabama, there appears to be a pool of ineffective, poorly trained mathematics teachers who rotate from school to school. Every year these teachers are released by their systems, move one county, city, or system over and get a new job. The lack of qualified, effective teachers to take their places ensures that these teachers will continue to teach many of our most vulnerable students. Student Apathy – In many cases, it doesn't matter how talented the teacher is, it doesn't matter what curriculum a school is using, it doesn't matter how much professional development the staff ... • 17. Teacher Reflection This passage from the book exemplifies the importance of a role that a teacher plays in a child's life. Teachers have the ability to improve a child's life without even realizing it – a refreshing revelation for both new and old teachers who may often wonder if they have ever made a difference. In most classrooms there will be students who will say they do not wish to be there and do not want to learn. And while the student's unwillingness to learn is frustrating for teachers at times, the teacher creates the learning environment and can do much to motivate her students to succeed. By implementing effective teaching strategies, teachers can influence and motivate their students. Tracy Kidder wrote Among Schoolchildren after spending nine months in Mrs. Zajac's fifth–grade classroom located in the "Flats" of Massachusetts. This books gives an insight to many in the education field about how economic class, ethnicity, and parental involvement can harm or benefit education. The setting is in a low socio–economic class neighborhood in Holyoke, Massachusetts, a town consisting of a high population of people of Puerto Rican descent. Miss Zajac's class is made up of about twenty students, most of whom are Puerto Rican, low–income students, many of whom have been abused, neglected, or have emotional difficulties. • 18. A Teacher : A Career As A Teacher The career I chose that I believe wouldn't suit me was a teacher, one of the reasons being that Teaching just isn't something I would like to do. I don't believe I could handle being a teacher, grading papers constantly, dealing with the disrespectful kids. When looking at the careers of being a Social Worker and a Teacher, being a Social Worker is clearly the best option for me because it deals with all kids and gives me the opportunity to help children have a better life. Teaching in a high school entails a lot, there is lots of at home work, It's almost a 24/7 job. There's lots of paperwork, papers to grade, test and quizzes to make, lessons to plan, and you have to make them in a way that will help all the students learn. You have to be able to deal with high stress situations, stand for long periods of time, be able to grade not only in a work area, but at home as well. All in all I would not be able to be the kind caring teacher that most schools look for. Becoming a teacher takes hard work and dedication. In order for you to become a teacher,You must have a Masters degree from an accredited college. You must have completed an advanced program in teacher competencies. She said the only thing that the teachers do together is come together in meetings and discuss progress of their classes and test scores. This came as a shock to me, I thought that teachers would be meeting often to combine curriculum in a way that's meaningful. I thought that teachers would want to allow for cross–curricular projects to allow students to make the connections between subjects. First question was what made you a teacher? She started to explain that in Sophomore year of high school she was signed up as a peer helper tutor which means she help special needs children with their homework. According to Mrs. Gilbert that after two days in that environment she knew that was her calling and what she need to do for the rest of her life. Most exciting part of being a teacher was a very impressive answer from Mrs. Gilbert was it is awesome to stand on the field and see my students graduate and achieve great things. She also explained that the best thing about being a teacher was the ah–ha moments because those moments give the teacher a better idea of what the student is learning and achieving. The Philosophy Of A Teacher Educators have a tremendous responsibility not only to prepare students for their lives ahead but also contribute to the evolution of knowledge for future generations. Each generation educates the next and as the torch is passed we refine our methods. The philosophy of education seeks to study the process and discipline of education in order to understand how it works. The philosophy of a teacher is his or her description of their goals and beliefs and how they will be put into action in a classroom. Teaching is recognized as one of the most challenging and respected career choices one can make .The teacher's task is sometimes difficult based on the subject and the age of the students to which he or she is trying to teach. These philosophies or ideas will change based on one 's experience and training. Teachers carrying guns in school is currently a controversial issue in America, especially after a mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, which killed seventeen people on February 14th, 2018. Many people firmly encourage the idea that teachers should be allowed to bring guns to school because teachers can protect students if a shooting happens on–campus. After taking an eighty–hour firearm course, teachers can legally carry guns in classes. I believe that eighty hours of training is a small amount for educators to be able to effectively control gun. • 27. The Roles Of Teachers ' Teachers The roles of teachers I believe teachers play multiple roles that extend beyond the classroom. They take classes continuously, attend professional development sessions, and research new approaches to learning on their own time. These are done with the purpose of expanding their knowledge in teaching and to ensure that the school day runs smoothly for the entire class. For example, Mrs. Shuffield spend her breaks researching videos to enhance her writing and science lessons. This week, she presented a rap video on photosynthesis to help students memorize facts about it. The children really enjoyed it and I could hear them singing it as they left the classroom. Teachers act as role models to their students in hopes of inspiring them to greatness. As a future educator, I may be the only person in my students' lives who teaches them the importance of hard work and good character. This is why it's essential for me to build a positive rapport with every child. I want to teach them to be caring and compassionate members of society. By being a moral teacher, I will positively impact the moral development of my students. My goal is to help each student learn to be a better version of themselves by the time they leave my classroom. I believe successful teachers develop a strong partnership with students' parents. • 34. The Problem Of A Teacher Teachers are humans like the rest of us, and can be lazy. They can't always be blamed for having an "off day" as we all have them, but sometimes teachers take advantage of the fact that it's tougher to get fired as a teacher than a lot of other jobs. When a teacher has been there for a long time, it can be a very difficult task to get them fired if they're taking advantage of their tenure. A new teacher almost always starts out great, happy, and very excited to teach their class. An issue is, over time teachers can become lazy, as can people with other jobs. The issue with a lazy teacher, though, is that the student's future is in the hands of the teacher. When teachers are lazy, sometimes they'll give out what is called "busy work," used to waste time, and give them something to do while the teacher sits and does what they want. There are two ways this is a huge issue: first, this doesn't help students at all, meaning that the time they spent doing it helps get them nowhere, and is completely pointless. Second, students can carelessly complete the work, and take advantage of the teacher not caring. After time, a teacher not caring isn't a reason for them being fired, due to the fact that they're a union, and unless they commit a serious crime as shown on plenty of news stations, then they're free to do as they please as long as they aren't necessarily breaking the law. • 36. Teacher Reflection There are many aspects to being a great teacher. Being a great teacher is not only based on academic success of the students, but they make you want to go to school. Teachers help shape the lives of the upcoming generations. How they affect the students affects the world. They play a big role in a student's lives. One thing about teacher's everyone should know is that especially on an elementary school level they need to think outside the box. They need to connect with their students and engage them in the activity. As astudent, each child is taught by a number of teachers throughout their lives, influencing them in either a positive or negative way. As a class we went to the Fun and Learn Center on the Rockland Community College... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition to that I could not see how the teachers talked or solved solutions within the class. The second place I observed was at Montebello Elementary School located in Suffern, New York. The students were in both fourth and fifth grades, the reason was because it was an inclusion class. When you walk into the classroom is it inviting. They had objects labeled, moveable furniture, and storage for each child. Throughout the time I observed, they moved the furniture many times, accommodating to each subject. It helped separate students for independent study as well as accommodating to large group activities. In this classroom everything was bright and exciting, the children's work was hung up for the class to see. The first thing you saw when you walked into the classroom was the daily schedule. I started to observe Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. There schedule looked like the following. Math From 11:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M, reading from 11:30 A.M. to 12:00 P.M., Recess/Lunch from 12:00 P.M. to 12:55 P.M., Vocabulary from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M., I/E Time from 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M., Relaxation/Free Time from 3:00 P.M. to 3:30 P.M. Since the children in this class have bothlearning disabilities or behavioral issues, many tasks were louder than most classrooms. The three teachers did the best they could to keep the energy of the class positive even when children are screaming and crying. They had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Essay On Teacher Is A Teacher Back when I was in high school, a student from the lower batch came to me asking what a teacher is. "A teacher is someone who teaches." I answered. "That's it? That's your definition? Well, never mind." The girl said. And then, I was like, what? Why would she ask me such a question? It really bothered me the whole day. Then, I thought to myself, "Well, a teacher could be anything or anyone as long as that thing or that person contributes to our knowledge." That's the time I realized that a teacher is not simply a teacher. There's more to it than a dictionary meaning. An educator is not merely a person who takes a course reading and reads texts from there to a student. A teacher can be a parent, an experience or simply a teacher or professor. As a daughter, I can say that parents are great teachers. They are the ones who took good care for us the longest. They are the teachers that will never ever fail and make us feel like we're stupid. According to Andrea Canter, Ph.D., NCSP, we feel safe and supported if parents get involve in our education to assure that we are learning to the best of our ability. Parents are the most patient teachers for they have taught us all throughout our innocent times. Even if we goof and joke around, they will never get tired of all of our crazy antics. They taught us even when we are in the phase of stubbornness. Although they are great, I for oneself, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "I can remember every day after school my sister and I would come home to play school with each other. I can't remember a time in my life where I didn't want to be a teacher; I have also grown up with lots of teachers in my family. Both my aunts on my mom's side of the family are teachers. My aunt Tricia is a professor at Holy Family University. Although my aunt Tricia has six kids at home and loves kids she has always said she enjoys teaching older students rather than younger. That's not the case for my Aunt Julie though. My aunt Julie is a teacher at a preschool. My aunt Julie always has the best stories to tell after she gets... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That's why this quote means so much to me "A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill the love of learning."
