Star Trek Science
The 2009 film reproduction of the infamous Star Trek series brings an older storyline to a younger audience. Both newer and older fans alike can
appreciate the stunning effects and cgi painstakingly perfected in the film, but does the science suffer because of it?
The story begins in 2233 on the USS starship kelvin, a federation craft sent out to investigate a "lightning storm" in space. An alien ship piloted by
Romulan emerges from the storm and immediately barrages the starship with attacks. Through the communication device, the Romulan demand that
the captain of kelvin come aboard for inquiry and a possible truce. Although unsure and wary of the situation, the captain agrees and climbs into a
smaller vehicle for transport into the Romulan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The pressure of the overlying rock (each weighing 2 to 3 tons) should collapse any hole created ("The Physics of Star Trek"). Even if you were able to
use a beam to vaporize the matter within the planet's core, if the planet's crust floats on a mantle like the Earth's, you would essentially be drilling
through a fluid. Near the end of the movie, the Romulan ship is seconds away from being destroyed by a black hole. With half of its ship sucked
into the black hole, Nero is given a choice to surrender or suffer a horrible death. Obviously, Nero chooses the latter, but in reality, Nero wouldn't
have any real choice. The closer your distance is to a black hole, the higher the gravitational force. The difference in gravity could be millions of
times that of Earth ("The Physics of Star Trek"). Nero would not have time to make any snarky comeback. He would be too busy being separated into

Star Trek: The Next Generation
Working Title
When I was ten in Korea, my English teacher handed out a VHS tape labeled "Star Trek". The video was meant to give a taste of American television
to my young eyes. After watching two episodes of "Star Trek: The Next Generation", I started a new life that was driven by technology.
Starting by reading old computer programming books even before we had a computer in our house, I was driven to explore a new world of computers
by learning the machines. I used my computer skills to help other people in part to share my enthusiasm on the positive force technology can bring to
our society. Over the years, I helped neighbors clear out spyware, connect the computer to the printer, publish a website, and even delete precious
photos on a memory stick ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Especially with the advent of the Internet, new issues of privacy, commerce, crime, and intellectual property are being developed in relation to our use
of technology.
Since watching my first Star Trek episode, I always believed that technology will be a force of good. However, technology must also be understood
and used correctly in order for the society to get the best use of it. Hosting my own website for over 12 years and helping other people along the way, I
have a unique experience with computer technology that not only can contribute to my law studies but also to the law campus community.
The [Law School's name] offers the atmosphere of a collaborative community that encourages student to work together in their studies as well as
develop healthy cultural activities and programs. My previous contributions to student–run projects have been developing digital products (Websites,
videos, and digital paintings) that enrich the overall project's goals. Using my computer skills, I attempt to enhance our objective by bringing our

My Family At Toys R ' Us For Her Daughter 's 8th Birthday
When I visited my Aunt in Concord not too far outside of the San Francisco, I accompanied her in buying a present at Toys R ' Us for her daughter
's 8th birthday. When entering the store it gave a very exciting and bright atmosphere. The colors were very vibrant with shelves upon shelves of
different types of toys. The colors at the front seemed to have a combination of all the different colors and seemed to keep a neutral environment. The
store had many places for kids to wonder such as a video game section, different toy sections that were separated into types of toys, and the older kid
sections which included bikes, scooters, tri–wheelers, and push carts which were just for the parents to use to push their toddlers around.
The entire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This obviously is to intrigue the boy who shows interest in explosions and people fighting off monsters to save the Earth. For the bigger toys in these
sections, I noticed that the toys meant for boys had many toys that suggested they should pretend to be different super heroes. In this section even
though many heroins had similar colors to the men, there were no girl super heroes in this section despite having many batman and superman toys.
When walking into the girl isles of the toy store, the type of toys completely changed. When walking in the isles I noticed that the colors obviously
changed to pink and purple. The type of toys in these isles completely contrasted the toys meant for the boys. Toys meant for girls usually comprised
of barbie dolls, flowers, and many color books of princesses. Most toys in this section suggested tea parties and playing house. Many of the toys also
promoted little girls to wear aprons and to bake cookies and other meals for fun. One of the interesting things about this isle however were how they
had more "Life size" toys than the boys. The life size toys were usually barbie dolls where they could dress up the toy in the girls actual clothing to
see what the barbie doll would look like. Another thing that I noticed was that most of the toys were very similar to one another because the girl isles
comprised of different types of dolls rather than

Androids and the Mind-Body Problem
The Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "The Measure of a Man" makes a compelling argument on androids and the mind/body problem. The
episode is about Lt. Commander Data who is an android who acts identically to human behavior. Data is put on trial to find out if he should have
human rights or if he is considered property of Starfleet. The episode makes interesting points as to what qualifies a person of having a mind and soul.
William Hasker uses multiple categories to list out the different views on the mind/body problem in his book Metaphysics: Constructing a World
View. Captain Picard, Data's commanding officer and the defending attorney for Data's case, would be classified as a materialist. Picard views Data
as having rights just like the rest of the humans who work for Starfleet. In trial Picard says, "We too are machines, just machines of a different type"
(Scheerer, 1989). This statement from Picard alone shows his materialism thinking. Materialism thinking does not believe in souls thus since Data is
manmade he would not have a soul as well making him an equal to human beings. Picard believes since Data is intelligent, self–aware, and has a
consciousness of his existence and actions then this makes Data a sentient.
Commander Bruce Maddox, who believes Data is property of Starfleet and should not have rights, has emergentism thinking. Maddox refers to Data as
an "it" as Data is no different than a computer making him property of Starfleet. He justifies his point

Star Trek's Influence On American Culture
On September 8, 1966, television audiences went on their first voyage with the Starship Enterprise and its crew. The show lasted three years and
consisted of only 79 original episodes but went on to become one of the most culturally and socially influential shows in history. Earlier science fiction
shows were purely for entertainment but Star Trek changed the way people thought of science fiction and raised the bar for future science fiction shows
with standards of quality and mature themes. The Star Trek franchise has become part of the American culture, spanning five decades and producing
blockbuster motion pictures, countless novels, memorabilia, conventions, museum exhibits, catch phrases, parodies, and college courses. The series

In the episode the crew is held captive by aliens with telekinetic powers and under their control Captain Kirk kisses Lieutenant Uhura. It was
television's first Black interracial kiss. The show's producers were particularly concerned about reaction of viewers in the South but allowed the scene
to air anyway, making television history. Actors Whoopie Goldberg and Astronaut Mae Jemison each credit Nichell Nickols protrayel of Lieutenant
Uhura with inspiring them to believe that a Black woman could hold a position of power and authority. Both Goldberg and Jemison went on to appear
in later versions of Star Trek.
Star Trek did contain racism but it was directed towards the safe target of Mr. Spock the logical, pointy eared Vulcan. During almost every episode
Dr. McCoy or one of the other cast members made comments about his race, green blood or reliance on pure logic to solve problems. The show was
able to allow this form of racism because Leonard Nimoy was white and portrayed an alien from the planet Vulcan. His character provided an outlet for
the racist attitudes so prevalent in the

Star Trek: The Enterprise And The Edo Culture
The Enterprise and the Edo Within this episode of Star Trek, the crew of the Enterprise expresses respect for another culture, even when they did not
completely agree with it. To start off, crewmembers of the Enterprise land on a planet that is inhabited by the Edo. The first interaction between these
two groups is rather peaceful, with the crew of the Enterprise showing interest and partaking in some of the traditions of the Edo. The crewmembers
show such a high level of respect that they refuse to abuse the Edo. However, just because the crewmembers of the Enterprise respected some traditions
of the Edo, didn't mean that they agreed with the Edo law. Specifically, no one on the Enterprise agreed with the Edo's universal use of capital
punishment... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When he meets the Edo, captain Jean disagrees with the idea of killing Wesley for his crime. Ultimately, the crew of the Enterprise refuses to
acknowledge the Edo's law, and leave with Wesley. By doing this, the Enterprise's crew confirms that they do not agree with the Edo's punishment
for Wesley. This choice appears to be out of desperation, rather than reasoned debate. I say this because the Edo and Jean are still at an impasse. The
Edo have not budged on the fact that they have to kill Wesley. Captain Jean seems to act in desperation, and I think that he revealed the values of the
Enterprise. Specifically, captain Jean reveals that the Enterprise values life over following their prime directive. Ultimately, I respect that Captain Jean
did not insult the Edo, and that he decided to protect Wesley. Even thought this decision was not favored by the Edo, I believe that Captain Jean
displayed the values of the Enterprise in a humble manner. These two decisions make Captain Jean and the rest of the Enterprise display respect
without being cultural

When Students Should Declare Their Major
When Students Should Declare their Major
The post– millennial generation has a lot more to consider when choosing a future career than the generations before did as well. Students graduating
from high school come from a place with strict rules and an inflexible syllabus. These students are only now given the freedom to think for
themselves and to discover who they are, what their skills are and what they are passionate about. It is more beneficial for students to establish a
foundation in an array of disciplines before declaring a major. A foundation is defined as "the basis or groundwork of anything." (Dictionary.com,
LLC) Since youth (the average 1st/ 2nd–year student is about 18–20 years old) have developing minds that change every day and, therefore, their
interests will change according to who they are at that given time.
The cost of living has become ridiculously expensive and it is causing most people to start or end their lives later. Even if a student graduates from a
high–end university with a big degree it may guarantee absolutely nothing in today 's society. Since the cost of living is so high, it is causing the next
generation after to have no choice but to postpone retirement, therefore, they can keep a roof over their own heads. With later retirement and
overpopulation in the world, the post–millennial generation is not guaranteed a stable job anymore and even if they do have an amazing education,
they still have the risk of becoming homeless. There is so

Gen Y And Baby Boomer Generational And Group Dynamics At...
When looking at what makes a company successful, one main contributor is a solid organizational culture. Organizational culture is impacted by
generational groups that differ in their communication styles, beliefs, and values as well as a preference between working alone or as a member of a
team. This paper will compare and contrast the Gen Y andBaby Boomer generational groups in terms of organizational culture and interpersonal and
group dynamics at Pick 'n Save.
According to Reynolds, Campbell, & Greist (2008) Baby Boomers are considered those that were born between the years of 1946 and 1964. They also
consider Generation Y to be those that were born between the years of 1982 and 2000. Generation Y is the offspring of Baby Boomers. These two
generations are very important to companies since in the next decade, Baby Boomers will be retiring and Generation Yers will be entirely integrated
into the global workplace (Reynolds, Campbell, & Greist 2008).
Nicholson (2008) states that as about 80 million Baby Boomers retire, companies could face a major "brain drain" as so many senior and skilled
workers walk out the door. Companies have to start thinking now about how they intend to fill the gabs left by retiring Baby Boomers. This leaves
companies having to come up with plans on how they want to transition their workforce, not only to replace those that will be retiring, but to also make
sure that their replacements are fully qualified and can take their job over

Aubrey Drake Graham's Houstatlantavegas Quotes
The song I've chosen to write my paper on is called "Houstatlantavegas". Aubrey Drake Graham is a Canadian born singer and songwriter, who
records under his middle name Drake. Born October 24, 1986, met an agent of his father's friend. The agent had helped him pick up a role on a
Canadian television show called "Degrassi", playing the role of Jimmy Brooks. Brooks in the show, is a basketball player who was shot by a classmate
and became disabled. With his mother being sick, he had grown up very poor. His father was a drummer who worked withJerry Lee Lewis. Drake

important, collaborating together with Drake creates big names for artists themselves. Not only has every album progressed for the singer and

Texting And Driving
Texting and Driving has been a problem for many years, and has continuously increased since the creation of social media and other distractions that
our generation is drawn too. On September 1st, 2017 Texting the Driving was made illegal in the State of Texas. This law was created for the safety
of not only the drivers who are participating in this illegal act but the people surrounding them and other drivers. Many things contribute to the act of
texting and driving but the largest contributors are our phones. We; as a generation, have become addicted to these devices which has caused many
injuries and fatalities over the years and continue to do so today. Texting and Driving should be a law inTexas due to the severe consequences of texting
and general communication, social media influences, and multitasking mistakes
The new Texas State Law regarding texting and driving was passed to ensure that civilians on the street are not being distracted and putting not
only themselves at risk of injury but also the people around them. The DMV of Texas states,"At least 9 people are killed every day because of a
distracted driver." (Texting and Driving) According to the Department of Motor Vehicles of Texas, the amount of people killed a day by a distracted
driver is 9. This number is saddening, and the reason that states; like Texas, are making a change, and putting a law to action. 2 years ago, I witnessed

Jean Luc Picard as a Leader Essay
Jean Luc Picard as a Leader If the cause is just and honorable they are prepared to give their lives––Jean Luc Picard The cares for lives, continuation of
other's future, and the hope of a more successful generation are rarely the thoughts of anyone. Most individuals are self–centered, careless of others,
and seek personal benefit. Although these unfortunate qualities make up the majority of the society that we live in, there are few individuals that
make up what we call good leaders. Someone who has a thorough, objective, and complete view of a situation are a good leader. A good leader is also

We elect him to handle many situations and crisis that are affecting or can affect our country. For these situations of crisis, the president's clarity of
thought is always necessary. Clarity of thought is not only needed for himself, but mainly for the well being of all men, women and children of
the US. His concerns are not only for the present situation, but for the future of all the generations to come. So as a leader, the president has much
to consider, for It is upon his shoulders that the well being of millions of lives are at stake. In like manner, Jean Luc Picard is a good leader. From
the very beginning of "The Defector," the episode starts to reveal Picard's attributes as a good leader. The episode begins with a scene taken from
Shakespeare's masterpiece, Henry V. In this scene there are two soldiers who are awaiting the eve of battle when King Henry V(Data)comes
disguised as a commoner to speak to the two soldiers. ("Defector" 1990. episode38) As the scene goes on, we find out that Picard, from a distance,
is overseeing Data play the role. Picard is there to help Data understand the concept of human condition. Picard is the means by which Data can be

Speech On Men As Men
And so here we are now, thousands of years later, still being silent. We're still not speaking up and saying the things that we need to say. And I'm not
just talking about from a marital standpoint, either. Specifically, I am talking about how we, as men, in many arenas of life, allow ourselves to
continue to take stuff. Mohammed Ali was probably the greatest fighter who ever strapped on a pair of gloves. But because of his philosophy as a
boxer, he felt that he could just absorb his opponent's punches and not throw any until had worn his opponent down. But look at the punishment that he
had to take along the way. Eventually, he got beat by a guy who should never have stepped in the ring with him.
Are you hearing what I'm saying; how many punches have you taken? And you've chosen not to throw any punches back. That's a choice you've made.
So now the people around you assume that whatever they do to you is all right because of your silence.
I'm going to share a deeper truth: I know that many of us hide from this (facing the truth), because I've done it, too. However, I'm not going to
pretend like I'm the angel of angels or the saint of saints. I've done it, too. I have been to the place where I'm just going to let it go. It'll get better. I'm
just going to pray about it. Let me tell you something, after you finish praying, you better get up and do something about it. You better get up and say
something. You better get up and do something about your situation. Otherwise, your situation and your circumstances will become progressively
worse because you choose not to be the person that you're supposed to be. God made you a leader. You're supposed to be the leader. What will these
young men, this next generation, be about if the men in their lives show them that the correct path is just to be quiet? So then, we're going to perpetuate
this problem, and the next generation is going to struggle like we've struggled. These young men are going to take on the posture of their fathers, take
on the attitude of the men in their lives. In fact, the Bible even says that the iniquity of the fathers shall be visited upon the children and to the
children's children unto the third and the fourth generation. A generation is

Analysis Of Daughters Of The Dust
Introduction to film
Daughters of the Dust (1991), Dir. Julie Dash Scene analysis
Daughters of the dust revolves around an early 20th century African American family from Ibo Landing which is a time not shy of racism and slavery,
especially in middle America. The scene depicted in the movie where a young girl is running through the forest in an all–white dress with a blue ribbon
who seems to be being followed by a man in a hide and seek manor. The young girl disappears and the man stumbles upon a plot of land that is a
graveyard, with headstones made from wooden planks, the man observes his surroundings. Presumably, this girl in white is the young voice
narrating the next scene which pans through steam over to a flash back of the ancestors who were slaves. We look across a field of men and
women who are working over these steaming wells, as well as the people in the background hanging soaked sheets up to dry. We see these people
mixing over a steaming hole in the ground scraping around a grey paste. The workers then begin to pull the paste out of the steaming pits and scrape it
into wooden molds. They appear to be making cement blocks as a young boy watches and older man collect all the wooden brick molds and
systematically knocks the brick from the mold and piles them orderly on both his left as well as his right. While doing so he sings an old hymn, the
boy seems to enjoy watching this process. Throughout the entire scene, there is a narration of a girl which speaks

My first thought after watching the show was, could artificial intelligence really have the same feelings as a human does. Should they have the same
rights, even though man designed them? Picard had some very good points and I could see how the crew became fond of Data.

Gargoyles Essay
9.There are different types of gargoyles! In the second season's story arc (nicknamed by the fans "The Gargoyles World Tour"), main characters travel
around the globe, fighting various dangers while searching for and meeting their cousins. It turns out not only are there many clans of gargoyles, but
they look completely different! For example, there's the Mayan Clan with its distinctly reptilian appearance and feathered wings that may have
inspired the deities of the ancient Mayan. Living in the ruins of an old pyramid deep in the rain forests of Guatemala, Mayan Clan fights to protect the
jungle and several dozen gargoyle eggs hidden in the rookery inside the pyramid. In Europe, there's the London Clan consisting out of gargoyles similar
to traditional heraldic creatures like unicorns, griffins and hippogriffs. On the other side of the world, Ishigura Clan lives in an old Japanese Shinto

Weisman even used to act in the productions of Shakespeare's plays. Therefore, it didn't take him long to start inserting Shakespearean elements into
a cartoon TV show about gargoyles. His most obvious influences were Macbeth and Midsummer's Night Dream. Hence the characters like Macbeth,
Weird Sisters, Oberon, Titania and Puck. Over time, these influences grew more pronounced. A number of quotes from Shakespeare is used in
dialogues on the show. Characters of Coldstone, Coldfire and Coldsteel used to be gargoyles Othello, Desdemona and Iago, whose story of love and
jealousy echoes the one told in the Shakespeare's play Othello. Finally, Weisman had plans to introduce the characters inspired by the monstrous
Caliban and the wise wizard Prospero from Shakespeare's play Tempest. Unfortunately, the show got canceled before these ideas could be used.

Lieutenant Worf's Struggle In Star Trek: The Next Generation
For this paper, I have chosen to analyze a scene from the television series Star Trek: The Next Generation, Season 5, Episode 20: "Cost of Living."
Broadly described, this sub–plot of the episode follows Lieutenant Worf (a Klingon) and his son, Alexander, as they struggle to reconcile Worf's
authoritative, rigid parenting style and Alexander's desire to gain autonomy and cling to his more permissive upbringing with his mother, who died
approximately a year prior to this episode. Alexander's age appears to be approximately four years in this episode, although the timeline is blurry, and
his age is difficult to discern given the facial prosthetics the actor is wearing. In this scene, Worf walks into the living area of their quarters to find

It is a higher sense of values and priorities that allows the ego to reconcile the demands of the id with the standards of society. (Freud Lecture) This is
what may cause Alexander to experience conflict in this scenario. His superego has been influenced by two (or more) conflicting sets of cultural
standards. First, it partially developed under one set of standards (human grandparents, half–human/half–Klingon mother, permissive, progressive,
freedom–loving, and individualistic) before Alexander found himself being raised under another set of standards by his father (fully Klingon,
authoritative, regimented, duty–driven, and behaviorally conservative). There was already some conflict before Alexander encountered Lwaxana Troi,
who then (as an adult authority figure) presented Alexander with a wildly permissive, fun–loving, indulgent, non–regimented source of comfort and
pleasure from a culture he had never encountered before. This likely tipped the superego towards accepting a more permissive, individualistic set of
values, which then gave the ego permission to indulge the id's demand for emotional pleasure, and to do so by manipulating and rejecting Worf's

Culture And Cultural Identity
You are entering the experience of the Villela family of our cultural background. Before doing so, we need to understand what culture means. Culture
has many meanings, culture creates your identity, that creates sense from oneself and shaped through our experiences and social locations. These
experiences can come from our family, beliefs, verbal, and nonverbal communication. Culture is passed on from generation to generation through
symbols, which stand for other things through words, images, or ideas. Culture background is when an individual talk about his or her heritage or
background. These are my personal cultural backgrounds of what molds my cultural identity through of family, beliefs, and social relations with others.
My family comes from a middle–class state, and are humble on what we do and how we do it. We come from a Mexican family of 4 and been living in
Mexico for most of our life's. We have that culture identity that we have to push our family to have a better life for the next generation to come.
Growing up my family was a strong believer on being independent and smart through our life. The way we dress would seem that we don't come
from a middle class setting. Our family traits are to look good and look high class to be respected higher. Our family culture is also to be clean and be
caring of things we receive. I have grown to take care of my belongings and things I earn the best I can. We don't come from a family that takes things

Food Waste
Hunger is one of the key problems in the world today. Not just in small portions of the world, but all over. Americans today rely on our food system
and take the amount of food we have for granted. What Americans aren't realizing, is that every piece of food we throw away, a child is starving
somewhere else. Not only are we wasting the food we buy, but 40 percent is just going to waste. Newsweek, Bonnie Tsui, magazine publisher says,
"Forty percent of all food is never eaten, and this rejection of "ugly food"–the misshapen or imperfect produce that gets thrown out before it ever hits the
supermarket display–is a major contributor to food waste." Americans have too many options when it comes to picking out their produce. If it
doesn't look clean enough, they choose another one. America wastes a ton of food every day, instead of focusing on which produce looks better
to eat, we should be focusing on cutting down the amount of food we waste and saving money. Will our issue with food waste ever change? What
is a solution to changing the amount of food we waste a year? School today are teaching kids that it is okay to dispose any leftover food we don't
finish. Jonathan Bloom an author of American Wasteland and creator of the blog "Food Tank" says, " Every day, we're teaching kids that food is
trash. We ensure that they throw it away by providing support grub in a rushed lunch period at times of the day when they won't be hungry." Kids are

they are not at all. In fact, because most of them are technologically inclined and virtually updated, they are not apathetic, they're just being teenagers
who were raised in a different environment. This is why there is such a thing as generations in this world. If there weren't any changes in the world,
we wouldn't even be able to tell if a new generation has come. Every generation has its benefits for a better and more advanced living.
In your article a parent of a Prospect student said "Compared to when I was growing up, I think that in some ways my daughter's generation is more
unaware of what's going on the world. ... I don't think they're apathetic, though, I think they just have different priorities like their cell phones and
Facebook." I believe the last part of what she said is right. We do have other priorities like the social network sites and our phones, bbm–ing one
another. On the other hand, the fact that we are unaware of what's going on in the world is completely wrong. I think the way parents think about this
generation is very close–minded. They're unaware of the good facilities these technologies provide us to stay in touch with the world. They are still
adhering to past habits and methods that they are unable to let go. It is now possible for us to obtain any information in a span of a few seconds and a

The Principle Of The Principles Of Enterprise Architecture
Principle 1
Primacy of principles
Statement:
These principles of enterprise architecture apply to all business units within the enterprise.
Rationale:
The only way we can provide a consistent and measurable level of quality information to decision–makers is if all business units with Lotterywest abide
by the principles.
Implications:
Without this principle, exclusions, favouritism, and inconsistency would rapidly undermine the management of information.
System related initiatives will not begin until they are examined for compliance with the principles

4.2 Data Principles
Principle 8
Data is an asset
Statement:
Data is an information asset that has value to Lotterywest and will be managed accordingly.
Rationale:
Data is a valuable corporate resource; it has real, measurable value. The purpose of data is to aid evidence–based decision–making. Accurate, timely
data is critical to accurate, timely decisions. Most corporate assets are carefully managed and data is no exception. Data is the foundation of our
decision–making, so we must also carefully manage data to ensure that we know where it is, can rely upon its accuracy, and can obtain it when and
where we need it.
Implications:
This one of three closely–related principles regarding data: data is an asset; data is shared; and data is easily accessible. All Lotterywest decision
makers should understand the relationship between the value of data, sharing of data, and accessibility of data.
Data owners must have the authority and means to manage the data for which they are

Essay on Captain Picard: Is He a Good Leader?
Captain Picard: Is He a Good Leader? In Star Trek the Next Generation : "The Defector," does Captain Picard prove himself to be a good leader? In
trying to answer this question, I thought "Well, what makes a good leader? Who do we (the general public) consider to be good leaders?" The most
obvious choices popped into my head: President of the United States, Congress Representatives, CEO's of large companies. But after considering
these leaders, I did not see how Picard compared to them. After all, he is the Captain of the Enterprise, a military space ship. I guess that makes him
more of a Colin Powell type–a U.S. military officer of the highest ranking. It makes sense that U.S. military officers are considered to be good leaders.
But,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The defector wants the Enterprise to enter the Neutral Zone to keep the Romulans from successfully completing their new space station. For Picard,
the decision whether or not to enter the Neutral Zone is not an easy one to make. He does not know if he should trust the Romulan defector's
information. Picard knows that if he makes a decision in haste and enters the Neutral Zone, the Romulans will have a right to wage war. On the other
hand, if the defector is telling the truth, the safety of the Federation could be in serious jeopardy. To do what is best, Captain Picard relies on his
abilities to think rationally, demonstrate confidence and determination, and to keep the welfare of his crew in mind. So according to the
above–mentioned characteristics one must have in order to be a U.S. military official (also known as a good leader), Captain Picard definitely
proves that he is a good leader. It is often difficult to think rationally during a time of crisis. In fact Data and Geordi have a conversation about
making decisions based on one's "gut feelings." ("The Defector") Geordi is trying to explain to Data how difficult it is for humans to make decisions
based solely on facts. Emotions tend to always get in the way. The crew had a gut feeling about the defector, Admiral Jarroc. They wanted to believe
him (according to their gut feelings), but based on past experiences with the Romulans they must consider the facts of the situation which do not look

Sacramento
Both Ernesto Galarza's "Barrio Boy" and Joan Didion's "Notes From a Native Daughter" write about Sacramento's past. Both authors talk about
Sacramento during two different time periods. Joan Didion talks about the mid–century and Ernesto Galarza talks about the early 20th century.
Although both author's perspective of Sacramento differs from era to era, there are differences in certain characteristics described by both authors.
Galarza's essay focuses on an immigrant point of view arriving into Sacramento versus Didion's experiences as a native decedent of Sacramento. Joan

At the moment of its waking Sacramento lost...its character..." (Didion 173). In other words, Didion is pointing out how Sacramento is becoming more
immoral as urbanization and industrialization occur. However, what is most interesting is how Didion expresses Sacramento's loss of character
through her own experiences. For instance, Didion describes her wonderful memories basking in the Californian sun, rivers, fields and valleys as a
child, showcasing the real natural Sacramento. However, later on as a n adult when she returns to Sacramento, Didion finds that the Sacramento she
has been seeking is no longer there, as a result of industrial development: It is hard to find California now, unsettling to wonder how much of it was
merely imagined or improvised; melancholy to realize how much of anyone's memory no true memory at all...I have an indelibly vivid 'memory', for
example, of how Prohibition affected the hop growers around Sacramento... (Didion 57)
In the excerpt above Didion expresses how she was unable to reconnect with the California she grew up with because of all the changes it has suffered.
She also mentions prohibition, which by definition is a reform movement that outlawed drinking because it's effects on the home, in order to really
capture how increasing industrialization led to the gradual loss of the traditional Californian way of life. She uses prohibition as an example to show
how people's ideas are shifting with the introduction of urbanization;

Should Parents Spend Time For The Right?
In America, college is highly regarded as one of the more important periods in the average person's life. Lot of people find their partners in life,
friends that will stick through their adult life, try new things, and find mentors that can change how they think. According to Van Thompson
attorney and writer for Demand Media, 68.3% of high school graduates enrolled in college in 2011. With this amount of young and impressionable
people enrolling every year, one has to ask. Why do most people feel that they need to go to college? And more importantly, are we enrolling for the
right reasons? It would be fair to assume that one's upbringing plays a major role in deciding on whether or not they should enroll. Parents spend time
teaching their children various things, and being involved in important life decisions. While this can make a difference in one's decision for various
reasons; such as if the prospective student is of color, low–income, or the first of the family to consider the option of a higher education. Data has
indicated that for a majority of students, when it comes time to decide if enrollment is right for the individual, parental influence is not a major
contributor to a decision. In fact, less than half of students ranked their parents wanting them to go to college as an important deciding factor (College
Decisions Survey: Deciding to Go to College). It is worth mentioning that the exception to this could be first generation college students. Even though

What defines acceptable when it comes to technology? How are scientists actually able to give us an "accepted" opinion on things like this, these
subjects are really hard to test and to do scientific studies on because where is the actual baseline for the programs and stuff that they show
children, are those videos and shows themselves causing these issues with kids. There are a lot of factors to these kinds of things and its rather
difficult to just test them out and find where the flaws are because we have no way to really demonstrate a base line unless we show the same
programs to kids and control every aspect of their lifes for a few months or even years especially as the second sections demonstrates in paragraph one.

Does that mean everyone is going to suffer certain issues with technology? No, it does not mean everyone will be obese and have smaller attention

Star Trek Impact On Society
On September the 8th in 1966 Gene Roddenberry brought the iconic science fiction show to television screens for the first time, Star Trek was born.
The show has set a lasting legacy that has spawned over the decades with multiple spinoffs, several movies and even a cartoon show. It's a legacy that
is still around today, despite the original show being cancelled after its third season.
The pilot episode of star trek starring Jeffrey Hunter was actually rejected by NBC because it was seen as to cerebral. Roddenberry then went and
changes several parts of the show and cast William Shatner in the lead role. As said in making a TV Series: The Bellamy Project by Albert Moran
casting is one important element in the visual appearance of the program. This is confirmed as Kirk and his first Officer Spock played by Leonard
Nimoy are icons for the show. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Star Trek was set on the Starship enterprise and Roddenberry wanted to bring diversity to his show witch led him to write the diverse cast of a
Scot, an Asian, an African American woman as well as the half alien human Spock. During the cold war Roddenberry added a Russian crew
member, all under the leadership of James T Kirk. Perhaps one of star treks biggest tropes is the cultural impact it has had on society past and
present. As said in Star Trek by Ina Rae Har, Star Trek's ensemble is renowned for its ground breaking diversity, and such multicultural, multiracial
casting would be a trademark of all the series. The show would push even more cultural boundaries by including the first on screen interracial romance

Dumbest Generation Analysis Essay
AP Language Summer Assignment
Chapter 1:
1.In chapter one of The Dumbest Generation, Mike Bauerlein makes several statements about our generation and comes to a conclusion that helps set
the groundwork for the entire book. His analysis of today's youth states that the current generation is lacking when it comes to intellectual knowledge.
He provides evidence that states that today's under–thirty population in the United States does not have adequate knowledge, and their lack of
knowledge with affect them greatly in their adulthood years.
2. As with most of this book, the main supports that Bauerlein uses for his conclusion come in the form of statistics. As chapter 1 progresses, he cites
more and more surveys, polls, and studies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many of the statistics shocked me and made me wonder about the future for our generation. As I continued reading, I realized how much of the
surveys and statistics that he used were deceptive and manipulated my way of thinking. Bauerlein uses and abuses statistics to sway his readers
thoughts to what he believes is correct. Statistics are not as reliable as they may seem but the author did use valid and trustworthy resources and
organizations such as The National Board of Science. The argument was very convincing and did make me wonder about the future for our generation
and made me even more worried about the next generation after mine. Overall, the argument was strong and well planned.
Chapter 2:
1. In chapter two of The Dumbest Generation, Mark Bauerlein expands upon his stated conclusion from the first chapter. He proclaims that one of the
main reasons for the "knowledge deficits" of the under–thirty generation is a nationwide "bibliophobia", which is a fear of books or rather the lack of
willingness to read.
2. The main evidence that Bauerlein gives us to support his theory is statistics that are found in a survey that show the falling reading rates for people
of all ages in the last 30 years. The most popular survey was held by the National Endowment of the Arts Association entitled Survey of Public
Participation in the Arts.

Essay Star Trek: the Next Generation “the Measure of a Man”
Based on my reading of Hasker (1983), I believe the view of the mind or body problem that was exhibited by Piccard in the synopsis from Star Trek:
The Next Generation was the Dualism view. Picard stated that, "Data has rights among them the right to refuse to undergo an experimental procedure
such as this." Here, Picard ascribes both physical and mental attributes to the robot (Data). This view correlates to Hasker (1983) statement that,
"Dualism begins by taking quite seriously the fact that human beings have both physical properties and mental properties..." (p. 65). Hasker (1983)
further indicates that even though the mind and body are different, they are not detached, but continuously interacting (Dualism Interactionism), which
is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, this answers the Judge's (JAG) question as to whether or not Data had a soul and even if she has a soul. Since, God did not breathe into
the nostrils of robots, they are not living souls, and we are not obligated to treat machines "ethically." On this basis, I do not agree with the Judge's
decision. Likewise, Maddox was justified in his claims that Picard was being "irrational and emotional" as Data had no soul and, therefore, could not
be murdered.
Furthermore, I will not rule out the possibility that artificial intelligence will someday be possible, as we use several technologies today that were once
believed to be impossible. Also, according to the director of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at MIT, Rodney (1990), it is
not a question of if they can, but rather when they will build self–reproducing intelligent robots. However, even if mankind can create artificial
intelligence, the robots will be unable to create their own worldview as humans, as they will be subject to the software developer's programming and
they will have no soul. In conclusion, I would address this area with utmost caution and reverence, for, as Scripture says, mankind was "...fearfully and
wonderfully made" (Psalms 139:14 NIV).

Women's Rights Movements
Introduction A woman is sluggishly walking down the street with a large backpack. In the backpack she carries her children, her husband, her bills,
her student loans, her job, the burdens of the world; she is literally carrying the weight of the world. All of a sudden a man in a business suit comes
up to her and starts to yell at her telling her she is ugly, will never be good enough, she is stupid, she will never get anywhere in her life. Although the
woman hears him she steadily continues walking because she has to be a mother to her children, she has to a be shoulder for her husband to lean on
and cannot stop because she is forced to live up to an image of multi–tasking and not showing signs of giving up. Women have been looked down
upon, stereotyped, and even not treated as equals but they still continue to hold up the world and put on a winning and convincing smile for the
camera. Some women have giving into the oppressions of the world leaving the women that does have hope struggling to carry the world. Women are
continuously dehumanized because they are not treated as equals in the work place, the media, and school however the women's rights movement has
given women the right of freedom of speech and right to vote

Analysis of a Text There will be always a generation gap between a generation and another one. Generation gap is a broad difference in values and
attitudes between one generation and another, especially between children and their Parents. This can be defined as occurring when older and
younger people do not understand each other because of their different experiences, opinions, habits and behavior. Generation gap isn't a new feature
of our era or a new phenomenon but it has been existed ages ago. The idea of generation gap has been discussed many times by many authors. Brenda

world example of the Irish boy. In this article powers used the pronoun "us" when she speaks about her audience and the parents of nowadays
teenagers, baby boomers. She did that to align herself with the audience and get them well involved with the article. Moreover, Powers used an
ideal rhetorical strategy which is the rhetorical questions. This is an effective method of making the audience react with you. During her article she
asks a question and the she gives the audience the opportunity to think about it. She makes them search for an answer for that question and makes
their minds involved in the issue. In most of her article she while she gives us facts that her readers will agree with her. And as a result, her readers will

irresponsible generation of adults. Her argument here seems to be too convincing that when we reach her conclusion we still more convinced about
the first part of her paradox. She didn't support her conclusion well with enough ideas to make you believe what she is arguing for. In the article,

There was the captain, Janeway, Kes and Seven of Nine. This series brought women into leadership roles. The progression of women in Star Trek
has been appropriately timed and has even pushed a little bit past the time. Even though Uhura basically played the role of a secretary her role still
pushed the envelope for the time because of her race. She was a black actress during or right after the civil rights movement. She even thought of
quitting the role because she felt that she wasn't used enough for her role in the series. However, after Martin Luther King, Jr. talked to her and told
her how important it would be for her to stay on the show, she did. Women in Star Trek have progressed from a secretary type, to a doctor and
counselor, to the second in command and eventually the first in command or the captain. Their progress allows them to be more influential.
Let's talk more specifically about the Next Generation series. The Original series showed the four starring male roles to provide everything for the
crew. This is not the case in Next Generation. Next Generation is more like a family with a father, a mother and children. But who were the biggest

Star Trek Science

  • 1. Star Trek Science The 2009 film reproduction of the infamous Star Trek series brings an older storyline to a younger audience. Both newer and older fans alike can appreciate the stunning effects and cgi painstakingly perfected in the film, but does the science suffer because of it? The story begins in 2233 on the USS starship kelvin, a federation craft sent out to investigate a "lightning storm" in space. An alien ship piloted by Romulan emerges from the storm and immediately barrages the starship with attacks. Through the communication device, the Romulan demand that the captain of kelvin come aboard for inquiry and a possible truce. Although unsure and wary of the situation, the captain agrees and climbs into a smaller vehicle for transport into the Romulan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The pressure of the overlying rock (each weighing 2 to 3 tons) should collapse any hole created ("The Physics of Star Trek"). Even if you were able to use a beam to vaporize the matter within the planet's core, if the planet's crust floats on a mantle like the Earth's, you would essentially be drilling through a fluid. Near the end of the movie, the Romulan ship is seconds away from being destroyed by a black hole. With half of its ship sucked into the black hole, Nero is given a choice to surrender or suffer a horrible death. Obviously, Nero chooses the latter, but in reality, Nero wouldn't have any real choice. The closer your distance is to a black hole, the higher the gravitational force. The difference in gravity could be millions of times that of Earth ("The Physics of Star Trek"). Nero would not have time to make any snarky comeback. • 2. Star Trek: The Next Generation Working Title When I was ten in Korea, my English teacher handed out a VHS tape labeled "Star Trek". The video was meant to give a taste of American television to my young eyes. After watching two episodes of "Star Trek: The Next Generation", I started a new life that was driven by technology. Starting by reading old computer programming books even before we had a computer in our house, I was driven to explore a new world of computers by learning the machines. I used my computer skills to help other people in part to share my enthusiasm on the positive force technology can bring to our society. Over the years, I helped neighbors clear out spyware, connect the computer to the printer, publish a website, and even delete precious photos on a memory stick ... Especially with the advent of the Internet, new issues of privacy, commerce, crime, and intellectual property are being developed in relation to our use of technology. Since watching my first Star Trek episode, I always believed that technology will be a force of good. However, technology must also be understood and used correctly in order for the society to get the best use of it. Hosting my own website for over 12 years and helping other people along the way, I have a unique experience with computer technology that not only can contribute to my law studies but also to the law campus community. The [Law School's name] offers the atmosphere of a collaborative community that encourages student to work together in their studies as well as develop healthy cultural activities and programs. • 3. My Family At Toys R ' Us For Her Daughter 's 8th Birthday When I visited my Aunt in Concord not too far outside of the San Francisco, I accompanied her in buying a present at Toys R ' Us for her daughter 's 8th birthday. When entering the store it gave a very exciting and bright atmosphere. The colors were very vibrant with shelves upon shelves of different types of toys. The colors at the front seemed to have a combination of all the different colors and seemed to keep a neutral environment. The store had many places for kids to wonder such as a video game section, different toy sections that were separated into types of toys, and the older kid sections which included bikes, scooters, tri–wheelers, and push carts which were just for the parents to use to push their toddlers around. The entire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This obviously is to intrigue the boy who shows interest in explosions and people fighting off monsters to save the Earth. For the bigger toys in these sections, I noticed that the toys meant for boys had many toys that suggested they should pretend to be different super heroes. In this section even though many heroins had similar colors to the men, there were no girl super heroes in this section despite having many batman and superman toys. When walking into the girl isles of the toy store, the type of toys completely changed. When walking in the isles I noticed that the colors obviously changed to pink and purple. The type of toys in these isles completely contrasted the toys meant for the boys. Toys meant for girls usually comprised of barbie dolls, flowers, and many color books of princesses. Most toys in this section suggested tea parties and playing house. Many of the toys also promoted little girls to wear aprons and to bake cookies and other meals for fun. One of the interesting things about this isle however were how they had more "Life size" toys than the boys. The life size toys were usually barbie dolls where they could dress up the toy in the girls actual clothing to see what the barbie doll would look like. Another thing that I noticed was that most of the toys were very similar to one another because the girl isles comprised of different types of dolls rather than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Androids and the Mind-Body Problem The Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "The Measure of a Man" makes a compelling argument on androids and the mind/body problem. The episode is about Lt. Commander Data who is an android who acts identically to human behavior. Data is put on trial to find out if he should have human rights or if he is considered property of Starfleet. The episode makes interesting points as to what qualifies a person of having a mind and soul. William Hasker uses multiple categories to list out the different views on the mind/body problem in his book Metaphysics: Constructing a World View. Captain Picard, Data's commanding officer and the defending attorney for Data's case, would be classified as a materialist. Picard views Data as having rights just like the rest of the humans who work for Starfleet. In trial Picard says, "We too are machines, just machines of a different type" (Scheerer, 1989). This statement from Picard alone shows his materialism thinking. Materialism thinking does not believe in souls thus since Data is manmade he would not have a soul as well making him an equal to human beings. Picard believes since Data is intelligent, self–aware, and has a consciousness of his existence and actions then this makes Data a sentient. Commander Bruce Maddox, who believes Data is property of Starfleet and should not have rights, has emergentism thinking. Maddox refers to Data as an "it" as Data is no different than a computer making him property of Starfleet. He justifies his point ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Star Trek's Influence On American Culture On September 8, 1966, television audiences went on their first voyage with the Starship Enterprise and its crew. The show lasted three years and consisted of only 79 original episodes but went on to become one of the most culturally and socially influential shows in history. Earlier science fiction shows were purely for entertainment but Star Trek changed the way people thought of science fiction and raised the bar for future science fiction shows with standards of quality and mature themes. The Star Trek franchise has become part of the American culture, spanning five decades and producing blockbuster motion pictures, countless novels, memorabilia, conventions, museum exhibits, catch phrases, parodies, and college courses. The series has lasting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the episode the crew is held captive by aliens with telekinetic powers and under their control Captain Kirk kisses Lieutenant Uhura. It was television's first Black interracial kiss. The show's producers were particularly concerned about reaction of viewers in the South but allowed the scene to air anyway, making television history. Actors Whoopie Goldberg and Astronaut Mae Jemison each credit Nichell Nickols protrayel of Lieutenant Uhura with inspiring them to believe that a Black woman could hold a position of power and authority. Both Goldberg and Jemison went on to appear in later versions of Star Trek. Star Trek did contain racism but it was directed towards the safe target of Mr. Spock the logical, pointy eared Vulcan. During almost every episode Dr. McCoy or one of the other cast members made comments about his race, green blood or reliance on pure logic to solve problems. The show was able to allow this form of racism because Leonard Nimoy was white and portrayed an alien from the planet Vulcan. • 6. Star Trek: The Enterprise And The Edo Culture The Enterprise and the Edo Within this episode of Star Trek, the crew of the Enterprise expresses respect for another culture, even when they did not completely agree with it. To start off, crewmembers of the Enterprise land on a planet that is inhabited by the Edo. The first interaction between these two groups is rather peaceful, with the crew of the Enterprise showing interest and partaking in some of the traditions of the Edo. The crewmembers show such a high level of respect that they refuse to abuse the Edo. However, just because the crewmembers of the Enterprise respected some traditions of the Edo, didn't mean that they agreed with the Edo law. Specifically, no one on the Enterprise agreed with the Edo's universal use of capital punishment... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When he meets the Edo, captain Jean disagrees with the idea of killing Wesley for his crime. Ultimately, the crew of the Enterprise refuses to acknowledge the Edo's law, and leave with Wesley. By doing this, the Enterprise's crew confirms that they do not agree with the Edo's punishment for Wesley. This choice appears to be out of desperation, rather than reasoned debate. I say this because the Edo and Jean are still at an impasse. The Edo have not budged on the fact that they have to kill Wesley. Captain Jean seems to act in desperation, and I think that he revealed the values of the Enterprise. Specifically, captain Jean reveals that the Enterprise values life over following their prime directive. Ultimately, I respect that Captain Jean did not insult the Edo, and that he decided to protect Wesley. Even thought this decision was not favored by the Edo, I believe that Captain Jean displayed the values of the Enterprise in a humble manner. These two decisions make Captain Jean and the rest of the Enterprise display respect without being cultural ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. When Students Should Declare Their Major When Students Should Declare their Major The post– millennial generation has a lot more to consider when choosing a future career than the generations before did as well. Students graduating from high school come from a place with strict rules and an inflexible syllabus. These students are only now given the freedom to think for themselves and to discover who they are, what their skills are and what they are passionate about. It is more beneficial for students to establish a foundation in an array of disciplines before declaring a major. A foundation is defined as "the basis or groundwork of anything." (Dictionary.com, LLC) Since youth (the average 1st/ 2nd–year student is about 18–20 years old) have developing minds that change every day and, therefore, their interests will change according to who they are at that given time. The cost of living has become ridiculously expensive and it is causing most people to start or end their lives later. Even if a student graduates from a high–end university with a big degree it may guarantee absolutely nothing in today 's society. Since the cost of living is so high, it is causing the next generation after to have no choice but to postpone retirement, therefore, they can keep a roof over their own heads. With later retirement and overpopulation in the world, the post–millennial generation is not guaranteed a stable job anymore and even if they do have an amazing education, they still have the risk of becoming homeless. • 8. Gen Y And Baby Boomer Generational And Group Dynamics At... When looking at what makes a company successful, one main contributor is a solid organizational culture. Organizational culture is impacted by generational groups that differ in their communication styles, beliefs, and values as well as a preference between working alone or as a member of a team. This paper will compare and contrast the Gen Y andBaby Boomer generational groups in terms of organizational culture and interpersonal and group dynamics at Pick 'n Save. According to Reynolds, Campbell, & Greist (2008) Baby Boomers are considered those that were born between the years of 1946 and 1964. They also consider Generation Y to be those that were born between the years of 1982 and 2000. Generation Y is the offspring of Baby Boomers. These two generations are very important to companies since in the next decade, Baby Boomers will be retiring and Generation Yers will be entirely integrated into the global workplace (Reynolds, Campbell, & Greist 2008). Nicholson (2008) states that as about 80 million Baby Boomers retire, companies could face a major "brain drain" as so many senior and skilled workers walk out the door. Companies have to start thinking now about how they intend to fill the gabs left by retiring Baby Boomers. This leaves companies having to come up with plans on how they want to transition their workforce, not only to replace those that will be retiring, but to also make sure that their replacements are fully qualified and can take their job over ... Aubrey Drake Graham is a Canadian born singer and songwriter, who records under his middle name Drake. Born October 24, 1986, met an agent of his father's friend. The agent had helped him pick up a role on a Canadian television show called "Degrassi", playing the role of Jimmy Brooks. Brooks in the show, is a basketball player who was shot by a classmate and became disabled. With his mother being sick, he had grown up very poor. • 10. Texting And Driving Texting and Driving has been a problem for many years, and has continuously increased since the creation of social media and other distractions that our generation is drawn too. On September 1st, 2017 Texting the Driving was made illegal in the State of Texas. This law was created for the safety of not only the drivers who are participating in this illegal act but the people surrounding them and other drivers. Many things contribute to the act of texting and driving but the largest contributors are our phones. We; as a generation, have become addicted to these devices which has caused many injuries and fatalities over the years and continue to do so today. Texting and Driving should be a law inTexas due to the severe consequences of texting and general communication, social media influences, and multitasking mistakes The new Texas State Law regarding texting and driving was passed to ensure that civilians on the street are not being distracted and putting not only themselves at risk of injury but also the people around them. The DMV of Texas states,"At least 9 people are killed every day because of a distracted driver." (Texting and Driving) According to the Department of Motor Vehicles of Texas, the amount of people killed a day by a distracted driver is 9. This number is saddening, and the reason that states; like Texas, are making a change, and putting a law to action. 2 years ago, I witnessed one of my dear friend endure a life changing event that not only was fatal but ... Most individuals are self–centered, careless of others, and seek personal benefit. Although these unfortunate qualities make up the majority of the society that we live in, there are few individuals that make up what we call good leaders. His concerns are not only for the present situation, but for the future of all the generations to come. So as a leader, the president has much to consider, for It is upon his shoulders that the well being of millions of lives are at stake. In like manner, Jean Luc Picard is a good leader. From the very beginning of "The Defector," the episode starts to reveal Picard's attributes as a good leader. The episode begins with a scene taken from Shakespeare's masterpiece, Henry V. In this scene there are two soldiers who are awaiting the eve of battle when King Henry V(Data)comes disguised as a commoner to speak to the two soldiers. • 12. Speech On Men As Men And so here we are now, thousands of years later, still being silent. We're still not speaking up and saying the things that we need to say. And I'm not just talking about from a marital standpoint, either. Specifically, I am talking about how we, as men, in many arenas of life, allow ourselves to continue to take stuff. Mohammed Ali was probably the greatest fighter who ever strapped on a pair of gloves. But because of his philosophy as a boxer, he felt that he could just absorb his opponent's punches and not throw any until had worn his opponent down. But look at the punishment that he had to take along the way. However, I'm not going to pretend like I'm the angel of angels or the saint of saints. I've done it, too. I have been to the place where I'm just going to let it go. It'll get better. I'm just going to pray about it. Let me tell you something, after you finish praying, you better get up and do something about it. You better get up and say something. You better get up and do something about your situation. Otherwise, your situation and your circumstances will become progressively worse because you choose not to be the person that you're supposed to be. God made you a leader. You're supposed to be the leader. What will these young men, this next generation, be about if the men in their lives show them that the correct path is just to be quiet? So then, we're going to perpetuate this problem, and the next generation is going to struggle like we've struggled. These young men are going to take on the posture of their fathers, take on the attitude of the men in their lives. In fact, the Bible even says that the iniquity of the fathers shall be visited upon the children and to the children's children unto the third and the fourth generation. A generation is ... • 13. Analysis Of Daughters Of The Dust Introduction to film Daughters of the Dust (1991), Dir. Julie Dash Scene analysis Daughters of the dust revolves around an early 20th century African American family from Ibo Landing which is a time not shy of racism and slavery, especially in middle America. The scene depicted in the movie where a young girl is running through the forest in an all–white dress with a blue ribbon who seems to be being followed by a man in a hide and seek manor. The young girl disappears and the man stumbles upon a plot of land that is a graveyard, with headstones made from wooden planks, the man observes his surroundings. Presumably, this girl in white is the young voice narrating the next scene which pans through steam over to a flash back of the ancestors who were slaves. We look across a field of men and women who are working over these steaming wells, as well as the people in the background hanging soaked sheets up to dry. We see these people mixing over a steaming hole in the ground scraping around a grey paste. The workers then begin to pull the paste out of the steaming pits and scrape it into wooden molds. They appear to be making cement blocks as a young boy watches and older man collect all the wooden brick molds and systematically knocks the brick from the mold and piles them orderly on both his left as well as his right. While doing so he sings an old hymn, the boy seems to enjoy watching this process. Throughout the entire scene, there is a narration of a girl which speaks ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the Synopsis Data defines himself as "an automaton made to resemble a human being" (Synopsis). My first thought after watching the show was, could artificial intelligence really have the same feelings as a human does. Should they have the same rights, even though man designed them? In the second season's story arc (nicknamed by the fans "The Gargoyles World Tour"), main characters travel around the globe, fighting various dangers while searching for and meeting their cousins. It turns out not only are there many clans of gargoyles, but they look completely different! For example, there's the Mayan Clan with its distinctly reptilian appearance and feathered wings that may have inspired the deities of the ancient Mayan. Living in the ruins of an old pyramid deep in the rain forests of Guatemala, Mayan Clan fights to protect the jungle and several dozen gargoyle eggs hidden in the rookery inside the pyramid. Lieutenant Worf's Struggle In Star Trek: The Next Generation For this paper, I have chosen to analyze a scene from the television series Star Trek: The Next Generation, Season 5, Episode 20: "Cost of Living." Broadly described, this sub–plot of the episode follows Lieutenant Worf (a Klingon) and his son, Alexander, as they struggle to reconcile Worf's authoritative, rigid parenting style and Alexander's desire to gain autonomy and cling to his more permissive upbringing with his mother, who died approximately a year prior to this episode. Alexander's age appears to be approximately four years in this episode, although the timeline is blurry, and his age is difficult to discern given the facial prosthetics the actor is wearing. It is a higher sense of values and priorities that allows the ego to reconcile the demands of the id with the standards of society. (Freud Lecture) This is what may cause Alexander to experience conflict in this scenario. His superego has been influenced by two (or more) conflicting sets of cultural standards. First, it partially developed under one set of standards (human grandparents, half–human/half–Klingon mother, permissive, progressive, freedom–loving, and individualistic) before Alexander found himself being raised under another set of standards by his father (fully Klingon, authoritative, regimented, duty–driven, and behaviorally conservative). There was already some conflict before Alexander encountered Lwaxana Troi, who then (as an adult authority figure) presented Alexander with a wildly permissive, fun–loving, indulgent, non–regimented source of comfort and pleasure from a culture he had never encountered before. This likely tipped the superego towards accepting a more permissive, individualistic set of values, which then gave the ego permission to indulge the id's demand for emotional pleasure, and to do so by manipulating and rejecting Worf's ... Americans today rely on our food system and take the amount of food we have for granted. What Americans aren't realizing, is that every piece of food we throw away, a child is starving somewhere else. Not only are we wasting the food we buy, but 40 percent is just going to waste. Newsweek, Bonnie Tsui, magazine publisher says, "Forty percent of all food is never eaten, and this rejection of "ugly food"–the misshapen or imperfect produce that gets thrown out before it ever hits the supermarket display–is a major contributor to food waste." Americans have too many options when it comes to picking out their produce. If it doesn't look clean enough, they choose another one. In trying to answer this question, I thought "Well, what makes a good leader? Who do we (the general public) consider to be good leaders?" The most obvious choices popped into my head: President of the United States, Congress Representatives, CEO's of large companies. But after considering these leaders, I did not see how Picard compared to them. After all, he is the Captain of the Enterprise, a military space ship. I guess that makes him more of a Colin Powell type–a U.S. military officer of the highest ranking. It makes sense that U.S. military officers are considered to be good leaders. But,... For Picard, the decision whether or not to enter the Neutral Zone is not an easy one to make. He does not know if he should trust the Romulan defector's information. Picard knows that if he makes a decision in haste and enters the Neutral Zone, the Romulans will have a right to wage war. On the other hand, if the defector is telling the truth, the safety of the Federation could be in serious jeopardy. To do what is best, Captain Picard relies on his abilities to think rationally, demonstrate confidence and determination, and to keep the welfare of his crew in mind. According to Van Thompson attorney and writer for Demand Media, 68.3% of high school graduates enrolled in college in 2011. With this amount of young and impressionable people enrolling every year, one has to ask. Why do most people feel that they need to go to college? Essay Star Trek: the Next Generation “the Measure of a Man” Based on my reading of Hasker (1983), I believe the view of the mind or body problem that was exhibited by Piccard in the synopsis from Star Trek: The Next Generation was the Dualism view. Picard stated that, "Data has rights among them the right to refuse to undergo an experimental procedure such as this." Here, Picard ascribes both physical and mental attributes to the robot (Data). This view correlates to Hasker (1983) statement that, "Dualism begins by taking quite seriously the fact that human beings have both physical properties and mental properties..." (p. 65). Hasker (1983) further indicates that even though the mind and body are different, they are not detached, but continuously interacting (Dualism Interactionism), which is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, this answers the Judge's (JAG) question as to whether or not Data had a soul and even if she has a soul. Since, God did not breathe into the nostrils of robots, they are not living souls, and we are not obligated to treat machines "ethically." On this basis, I do not agree with the Judge's decision. Likewise, Maddox was justified in his claims that Picard was being "irrational and emotional" as Data had no soul and, therefore, could not be murdered. Furthermore, I will not rule out the possibility that artificial intelligence will someday be possible, as we use several technologies today that were once believed to be impossible. Also, according to the director of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at MIT, Rodney (1990), it is not a question of if they can, but rather when they will build self–reproducing intelligent robots. However, even if mankind can create artificial intelligence, the robots will be unable to create their own worldview as humans, as they will be subject to the software developer's programming and they will have no soul. In conclusion, I would address this area with utmost caution and reverence, for, as Scripture says, mankind was "...fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psalms 139:14 NIV). References Hasker, W. (1983). All of a sudden a man in a business suit comes up to her and starts to yell at her telling her she is ugly, will never be good enough, she is stupid, she will never get anywhere in her life. Although the woman hears him she steadily continues walking because she has to be a mother to her children, she has to a be shoulder for her husband to lean on and cannot stop because she is forced to live up to an image of multi–tasking and not showing signs of giving up. Consequently, when she comes to her conclusion they would agree with her as well. This is also the same reason why she used a real world example of the Irish boy. In this article powers used the pronoun "us" when she speaks about her audience and the parents of nowadays teenagers, baby boomers. She makes them search for an answer for that question and makes their minds involved in the issue. In most of her article she while she gives us facts that her readers will agree with her. However, she spends a lot oftime in giving proofs and facts why this is true and why the result would be an irresponsible generation of adults. She was a black actress during or right after the civil rights movement. She even thought of quitting the role because she felt that she wasn't used enough for her role in the series. However, after Martin Luther King, Jr. talked to her and told her how important it would be for her to stay on the show, she did. Women in Star Trek have progressed from a secretary type, to a doctor and counselor, to the second in command and eventually the first in command or the captain. Their progress allows them to be more influential. Let's talk more specifically about the Next Generation series.
