Adjusting to Other Communication Styles
Communicating with an Action (A) oriented person:
· Focus on the result first; state the conclusion at the outset.
· State your best recommendation; do not offer many
alternatives.
· Be as brief as possible.
· Emphasize the practicality of your ideas.
· Use visual aids to illustrate your case
Communicating with a Process (PR) oriented person:
· Be precise; state the facts.
12. · Organize your discussion in a logical order:
i)background
ii) present situation
iii) outcome
· Break down your recommendations.
· Include options and alternatives with pros and cons.
· Do not rush a process-oriented person.
· Outline your proposal.
Communicating with a People (PE) oriented person:
· Allow for small talk; do not start the discussion right away.
· Stress the relationship between your proposal and the people
concerned.
· Show how the idea worked well in the past.
· Indicate support from well-respected people.
· Use an informal writing style.
Communicating with an Idea (I) oriented person:
· Allow enough time for discussion.
· Do not get impatient wh
Stress the uniqueness of the idea or topic at hand.
· Emphasize future value or relate the impact of the idea to the
future.
· If writing, try to stress the key concepts that underlie your
recommendation at the outset. Start with an overall statement
and work toward the particulars.
13. How to use this new understanding:
None of us are 100% of only one style, we are a blend of each
of the four styles. Furthermore, in some situations (such as high
pressure at work) we may tend to prefer one style, while in
another situation (like relaxing with friends) we prefer a
different approach.
However, when you consider the person you identified at the
start – the person you have difficulty connecting with – I would
like you to ask yourself if you can answer some simple
questions.
One: Does that person fit reasonably strongly into one of these
four styles? (If you had to pick one of the four, which best
represents that person?)
Two: Is that a different style to your own preferred style?
Three: So why are you surprised that you find it hard to
communicate with them?
If we want to gain that person’s full attention, we need to adapt
the way we are trying to get through to them!
No, we do not need to change our message. We need to change
the way we are expressing it.
Let’s move on to think about some tips on how to do this. As a
little test, check out the suggestions for communicating with
somebody like yourself, with your preferred communication
style – would these seem like good strategies to you?
If so, you can bet the others will work too.

My approved topic is “Nursing, Environment, and Ethics
through Education”. The nursing profession involves taking care
of patient suffering from various diseases. For this reason,
nurse professionals are always prepared to attend to
emergencies within the healthcare system. Owing to the fact
that most of this emergency issues originate from the society,
nursing is now focused on educating people within communities
as a preventive measure. Sensitization education is an integral
part of both professional and social ethics to help communities
understand the cause of some common diseases and how they
can be prevented. The nursing fraternity also has a social
responsibility to protect the environment (Dorigan &
Guirardello, 2017).
I will introduce this topic by giving a story that will help
me catch the attention of the audience. The story that I will use
will be closely related to my topic. For instance in this topic, I
will give a story about how a particular nurse helped to save a
certain village from cholera by educating them on the
importance of using clean water. The story will be brief to
avoid wasting a lot of time on the introduction part. Most
people will feel bored if you spend most time of the
presentation giving stories (Sewasew, Mengestie & Abate,
2015).
The story will also be interesting and narrated in a way that
catches the attention of the audience. The introductory slide of
the PowerPoint should have a provocative statement and a
compelling statistic or fact about the topic. It should also have
an image that catches the eye of the audience and also helps
them guess what the topic is all about (Lingard, & Driessen,
2015). The slide should also provide the agenda or a brief
overview of what will be discussed in the presentation. The
overview should however create suspense and have relevance to
the audience. This prepares the audience for the presentation.

18. Nursing, Environment, and Ethics through Education
Nursing as a profession has the forefront when it comes to
taking care of the diseased in one form or another. In many
ways, this might mean that it is one of the professions that work
in an almost emergency state all the time as they are more of
curative than preventive. However, over the years, there has
been a growing need for recognition of origin to major issue
within the society and by this fact; nursing has taken to
recognize the strengths in preventive measures. With increasing
concern of climate change and call to action over the reduction
of pollution in an effort to reduce ailments due to their effects,
nursing like all other social institutions has taken a stand
through educative measures (Dorigan & Guirardello, 2017).
It is almost mandatory as part of social ethics as well as
professional ethics to have sensitization education for
communities over causes of certain diseases like increase in
asthma, cholera, and CVDs as a result of carbon emissions. It is
a social responsibility for the nursing fraternity to be involved
in the protection of the environment by recognizing the roles of
the population in maintaining a balance in nature. In addition,
there is recognition of the adverse effects that their actions may
contribute to the society and thus it is the ethical duty of the
nurse to provide information for self-sufficiency in self-support
for the community (Kieft, De Brouwer, Francke, & Delnoij,
2014). In recognition of this, there is a specific population that
comes across as the more likely to benefit with this endeavor.
Working with the individual in education institution is one way
in which integration of prevention through protection and
sensitization to environmental awareness is a great way to
tackle the issue (International Conference on Education
Management and Management Science, & In Zheng, 2015).
Many of the increasing issues in the world is central to the
availability and diversity in education. This means that by many
ways the cross-cutting issues in education also affect health,
therefore in working within the education industry, there is a
sense of responsibility that is provided earlier on in life to make
19. environmental health and data correlation to population health
as an integral part in general studies. In this way, we not only
tackle the issue form the roots but it becomes a habit as a social
norm and ethical standard within the society in general rather
than just providing treatment (American Nurses Association,
2007). This is a more realistic way as it does not change already
existing behavior but creates it within a much younger
generation and thus evolution for the next generation.

An ethical issue can be defined as a situation which usually
calls for an individual or an organization to choose between

choose a wrong which can be termed as unethical. A good
example of an ethical issue in a workplace environment is where

My approved topic is “Nursing, Environment, and Ethics
through Education”. The nursing profession involves taking care
of patient suffering from various diseases. For this reason,
nurse professionals are always prepared to attend to
emergencies within the healthcare system. Owing to the fact
that most of this emergency issues originate from the society,
nursing is now focused on educating people within communities
as a preventive measure. Sensitization education is an integral
part of both professional and social ethics to help communities
understand the cause of some common diseases and how they
can be prevented. The nursing fraternity also has a social
responsibility to protect the environment (Dorigan &
Guirardello, 2017).
Additionally, it is the ethical responsibility of nursing
professionals to provide the required information and guidance
for sustainability in the community level due to the presence of
adverse effects that may affect the society. For this reason,
23. some specific population will be in the pole position to benefit
from this effort (Sewasew, Mengestie & Abate, 2015). One
great in way to deal with this issue is to work with people in
education institutions. The increasing environmental issues in
the globe are as a result of diversity in education (Lingard &
Driessen, 2015). For this reason, various education factors
affect health in the society.
