2. BEGINNING
• Southam undertook all the tasks on his videos and he
became a ‘one man band’
• So this was when it came to him using his own camera,
lighting and editing and now uses a Director of Photography.
• He likes the format of music video because he feels that he
‘can try new techniques and have a real artistic freedom’,
meaning he is able to express himself through his music
videos.
• He is less keen on commercials as they allow for ‘much less
freedom’
• He uses Vimeo to showcase his videos, this had now became
a increasingly important platform as it is considered to have a
more higher status than YouTube.
3. BREAKTHROUGH
• His breakthrough came when he made the music video
for the sound Tesselate for Alt J.
• His Budget was £10,000 and he shot it all in one day.
• He used a large cast in order to bring the music video to
life.
• And when it came to editing he used special effects,
such as aftereffects.

4. CHASE AND STATUS
• He also created the music for Chase and Status – Lost
and Found.
• The music videos budget was £50,000 and it was filmed
in lose Angles using a steadicam.
• They filmed it at 36 frames per second then lowed down,
his influence was from Massive Attack’s Unfinished
Sympathy
• They went for an early 1990s VHS video look, and it only
took 3 shoots throughout the whole music video.
