Sher Shah Suri (1486-1545), born as Farid Khan, was a ruler of India who founded the Suri Empire in North India. He served in the Mughal army and as governor of Bihar before conquering Bihar and Bengal in the 1530s. Sher Shah defeated the Mughal emperor Humayun at the Battle of Chausa in 1539, forcing him out of India. Sher Shah established an efficient administration that included a postal system, standardized currency, and new Grand Trunk Road. He died in 1545 from injuries sustained in an accidental explosion during a battle.
