Mastering theoretical concepts
Students will learn concepts and principles needed for upper level courses in
Communication and Information Science.
Applying theory to novel technologies and innovations
Students will become skilled in understanding both current and new
technologies in terms of empirically justified theories of human behavior.
Evaluating theories critically –
Students will appreciate how humans adapt to technology and use it for social
purposes
Forming an awareness of research methods—
Students will become familiar with the methods that are used to study social
behavior related to new communication technology

Statement of Inclusivity and Respect
Each student in this course is expected to contribute to an inclusive and
respectful class environment. Students of all backgrounds including gender,
sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, and religion are to be treated fairly and with
honesty, integrity, and respect. Civil discourse, reasoned thought, sustained
discussion, and constructive engagement without degrading, abusing,
harassing, or silencing others is required of all students in this class
16. Course Activities
1. EXAMS = 45% of final grade
• Each exam is worth 15%
• Not cumulative (though familiarity is helpful)
• Final Exam = December 10, 9am. I will not give the exam early for any
reason.
2. Assignments = 45% of final grade
• 6 Written assignments (2 per module); ~500 words each = 40%
• 12 comments (2 per) on written assignments (~3 sentences) = 5%
3. Participation = 10% of final grade
