Extra Credit
Students may earn up to 2% extra credit, in one or both of these ways:
Extracurricular Research Participation: These will earn students extra
credit worth up to an additional 2% credit toward their final grades (.5% per
activity). Sign up through SONA.
Submit “2450 in the News” Articles: Social computing technologies and
their effects on individuals and society are frequently featured in the media
and popular press. Students are encouraged to find and read news items
(print, online and radio/TV) relevant to the class. You may submit one of
these for extra credit (one point). To receive credit, you must: 1) write one
page (250 words) describing why the news item is relevant to 2450, citing
specific concepts or theories from class; and 2) submit a copy of the
article, or a link to an online stream/description (for TV/radio).
Expectations
1. Professionalism
• Do the work
• Respect your colleagues
• Come on time
2. Integrity
• Respect academic integrity policies
Attendance
Regular attendance is strongly recommended for this course, as there
will be substantial time devoted to discussion and exercises in class.
Part of your participation grade will consist of attendance, as measured
via periodic in-class exercises.
Repeated failure to attend class without explanation could result in your
course grade being lowered, or your dismissal from the course, at the
instructor's discretion. Make-up exams will be given only in the case of
unforeseen emergency.
If you are experiencing difficulty attending or studying for this course,
please contact the instructor as early as possible. If there a problem I
can help with, I'd like to try.
